So decided to try this place after I noticed that they had Pistachio cake which is a favorite of mine. So lets start with the good. 4 Stars for the cake it was pretty decent, not bad. The cake was moist and you could taste the pistachio flavor which you can't always taste in Pistachio cake. However, the experience of going to buy the cake was 1 star. The presentation of the cakes in the display case was not appealing at all. The display case was sparsely filled and they had what looked like half eaten cakes in the display case. The other thing was the smell. It smelled so bad that I was so turned off from the cake. If I hadn't traveled to buy the cake I wouldn't have bought it. I had to wait a few hours after buying the cake to forget about the smell before trying it because it was so bad. So overall 3 stars! read more

Totally unique - this is some crazy awesome cake. Moist and tender with a slight spring. The flavors aren't exactly standard, nor are they the result of intentional obfuscation, rather, the flavors are familiar but they punch above their weight class. The pistachio is better than you've had, the chocolate too, and I've never had a banana pudding cake. The owners are so incredibly friendly too. The ordering may be a bit of an adventure, but you can honestly get whatever they have available - it is guaranteed to be good, and it will, in all likelihood, be truly great. read more

Recently I had the urge for some sweets. So I checked on yelp (my go to place) and saw so many great reviews on this bakery. I couldn't wait to buy some cake. So I drove to the location and found a parking spot fairly easily since it was late at night. I walked in and saw a man behind the counter and said "hi how are you?"...... No response :( so I repeated myself maybe he didn't hear me. Yet again no response :( I was a bit disappointed. Then I just decided to look for myself and pick something since the man behind the counter wasn't going to help me at all. As I look I heard LOUD voices in the back room YELLING in a language I never heard before. I wanted to get out quickly! So I choose red velvet and RAN out. I couldn't eat it in the car like the greedy girl I am bc I wasn't given any utensils. I tried the cake when I got home it was okay. Red velvet, Just Ok.. don't recall if I ever had the chocolate but what keeps me from giving this place 5 stars is the horrendous smell of funky body odor that engulfes you upon walking in! They need to keep Their hygiene up to par so that it doesnt permeate the business, I was grossly turned off by such a strong foul smell in that kind of setting but drove so far to get there, I wanted what I came for. Like other reviewers have said, don't get scared by the way it looks. The owners are spending more money on the product than the decor. These are the best baked goods I've tried in a while, and I usually shop in Manhattan. It's true, the cakes and other stuff aren't cheap, but they're pretty large slices and they are scary delicious. They've got something for everyone - if you have an untamed sweet tooth, you have to try a new cake they have (not advertised on the website) called something like "Butter delicious" - it's like crack for sugar fiends. Super sweet, however, so a little goes a long way. If you prefer less sugary overpowering desserts, they've also got lighter stuff like the pistachio cake (rich cake, but lighter on the sugar and frosting/filling). Those are the two best I've tried, and I haven't even begun yet! Next up is the banana pudding cake. Definitely support this business. It was love at first bite. I have never indulged in a slice of cake that parallels the sweet treats baked right here in Brooklyn. I tried chocolate, red velvet, and pistachio, the latter of which really blew me away. Every spoonful is so moist, rich in flavor, and just full of love. I don't understand how it's possible to deliver on a cake that is equal parts light, moist and fluffy, but also has such a satisfying heft. The cake and the frosting are perfection. It kinda fell sliding around in transport (sticking to the box) and when it was done my sister and I literally went back and CLEANED the cardboard bc none of it could go to waste. I had their pistachio cake from a friend's bday celebration. It changed my entire life. It haunts me now, since I'm staying away from sugar, but when my birthday rolls around, I want to indulge in this pillowy, flavorful piece of heaven. Some cake is just cake. This is heaven. I encountered this new cake/cupcake shop while showing a friend around who was visiting from Brazil. I'm a sucker for sweets so we stopped in and met the owner, Jude. What we had: Banana pudding with 'nilla wafers - $4 tasted very fresh with natural ingredients, not like the artificial taste you get from some bakeries. White Chocolate brownie with fruit - $5 Never heard of a white chocolate brownie but it was really good. I think there were raspberries in them. Gooey Bar - $5 This was another unique concoction containing white chocolate, vanilla and cheese?... It was gooey and yummy. The one cupcake (large decorated cupcakes are $5) we had was a green tea flavored cake with a blood orange flavored frosting. I was curious, what can I say. The cake and frosting by themselves were interesting but the combination really worked. As far as I can tell, this guy is making lots of amazing butter creams and cakes using totally natural ingredients. Gotta love cane sugar, vanilla, and real fruit! I hope he can keep it up when winter comes. This isn't the best place to come and sit being that the tables are small and there aren't many beverage choices. I suggest getting your goodies as carry-out and enjoying them in the park or at home. While I was there a lot of people seemed to be picking up special order cakes but I don't know those details. As you all know well, I have a major sweet tooth, more like a sweet bridge. I was in Brooklyn and while walking down Flatbush and discovered Cake Ambiance. Boy do I wish I could have A) read the reviews on Yelp and B) have that time back. As soon as I hit dean street, Lola, the fat girl inside of me saw a window case full go goodies, so I dashed over. But like the old saying, "all that glitters isn't gold". The place is small, there is no "ambiance" and two card tables isn't what I would describe as a "seating" area. I and another patron walk into Cake Ambiance and are warmly greeted. We're offered a bar, it was delicious, although, I'm not a bar guy. Since the bar was great, I think the cupcakes will be just as good. Boy was I WRONG. I picked a cupcake and took it to go, I figure I would snarff it down on the walk to the bridge. I run into a friend so I put it away as we walk and talk. We part at Atlantic Avenue and I open the container and take one bit and realize, it's uneatable. The frosting tasted like, what I imagine, Home Depot joint compound would taste like and the cake like Lowe's dry potting soil. This "cupcake" was undeniably the worst cupcake I've EVER had. I love sweet's and it really hurt to throw that $2.50 cupcake away. If I could give this place no stars I could. Plain and simple, avoid this place. read more

My wife called to inquire some Halloween cupcakes for a children's party. A woman who answered the phone that they would not decorate with Halloween themes.. My wife figured it might because of the size of the cupcakes but when she asked about a cake, the owner repeated, " we do not write these kinds of messages..." I spoke with a friend who had a similar experience at the shop. I will not comment on the quality of their cakes, but what I can tell you is do not ask them to write anything that may offend their religious beliefs. If you walk in here expect to taste quite a few things. It's understandable that they want to show off your products when they're that good, as a beautiful cake in a window can only do so much to attract people inside. I got a tip that their cakes and puddings were on another level so I stopped in when I was walking by one day, and I'm really happy that I did, though my cholesterol isn't.. I've been here several times (a great stop after my fav sushi spot, Taro), and always get the red velvet. This time I tried chocolate and vanilla. It was fresh and delicious. I like this place. I stopped in yesterday, looking for cupcakes to be the dessert for my NYE potluck. Prior to stopping in, I'd stopped into a shop that wanted to charge nearly $3 for unnecessarily small cupcakes. Absolutely not. Let me give you some background. I've been eating cupcakes for a long time. And while this new breed of cupcakes is larger than those of yesteryear, regular (as opposed to mini) cupcakes have never been that small! Just had to get that out there. Ok, now back to the review. I stopped in, looking for the perfect dessert, and I was warmly greeted by the owner, who offered me and another patron samples of just about everything! From the Butter Delicious, to the sweet potato cake, to the banana pudding - everything was delicious! In fact, that Butter Delicious tasted downright homemade! This place also has the tiny cupcakes, but they also have normal (well for today's standards) cupcakes as well, which are reasonably priced. My guests and roomie loved the cupcakes, and so did I! The chocolate cake and red velvet were so moist and rich! I typically like my cupcakes cold, but we'd left them out on the table for a while, and they were still delicious! I was stoked to find this bakery that a friend recommended to me. The owner was super-friendly, and gave us lots of tasty samples (such as the gooey bar). We figured a cupcake would be a safe choice. This is literally a hole in the wall. But the cupcakes are excellent. I had the fudge brownie cake crumble(not sure what they called it), it was very good. It was sweet , creamy and crunchy at the same time. I also had the vanilla with chocolate icing cupcakes. The icing was thick but not too sweet( a good thing). The vanilla cake was moist and light. Their cake designs look nice and they do custom cakes. It's similar to the idea of bagel shop, but..... take out cupcakes or cake crumble. How great is that??? read more

A friend ordered a cake for my baby shower and while everyone enjoyed the cake, my experience dealing with the staff was so horrible I would never purchase anything from this establishment. This is how the story goes: My father goes to pick up the cake to bring it to the shower and calls me to tell me they won't release the cake. Luckily I was with my friend who PRE-PAID for the cake so I put her on the phone which didn't seem to help at all. My baby shower was set to start and I wasn't going to let my dad leave without the cake so I ended up having to tell them how this made no sense and refuse to let my father leave without the cake. The worst part about this is that I was 8 months pregnant and I was made to feel like I was being done a favor. I didn't even pay for this cake, but I had to step in and deal with someone telling me I had an attitude and laughing at me through the phone. The sad thing is that this could have been such a good opportunity for the business because like I said, everyone enjoyed the cake (even me and I'm not a cake person).
