Cafe Zupas in Layton on Antelope Drive is..... TRULY AWFUL! The fact that I actually "Yelp'd" this restaurant prior to trying...well it's not like I wasn't warned but some of those photos (that were taken by others and NOT the restaurant), looked absolutely delicious. Sadly, my meal was anything but. Ordered the "Try 2 Combo" with the California Cobb Salad and the Turkey Avacodo Club on Ciabatta bread. Online ordering said I could request up to four complimentary sides (butter, chocolate dipped strawberry, French Baguette roll, and a Cheesy Dipper Breadstick). I went with all of them but they conveniently left off the French Baguette roll and the napkins and utensils. First thing I noticed was the order was ready for pickup within 10 minutes. I thought "damn, that was quick! Hope they got it right". Ha! The California Cobb Salad was to have baby butter lettuce and I received (what I could tell), was their house "chopped" mixed greens (TBH, the mix definitely WASN'T chopped!), which had an abundance of red leaf lettuce that was very warm, wilting, and inedible. I honestly had to toss the WHOLE half salad that it was. As for the toppings of a boiled egg (you receive half of one), chicken was a handful of tiny pieces along with the bacon bits (ends basically), olives, grape tomatoes (TWO..lol), three sliced avacodos, and the goat cheese was maybe four tiny chunks. Only thing DECENT was the Chipotle Ranch dressing but even that couldn't salvage the rotten salad. How in the world could a store manager or a franchise even send out wilting WARM lettuce when they have a good third of their menu devoted to salads??? It is beyond me but I highly recommend MOD PIZZA for FRESH LETTUCE each and every time!! And they let you make your own salad combinations there and NEVER skimp on the toppings/protein/etc. Only reason why I even went here was someone else wanted a sandwich... so here's that... TBH, I've had better prepackaged sandwiches at the local gas station. I am NOT kidding you! Here (Cafe Zupas), on the Turkey Avacodo Club, some slices of prepackaged turkey, one half of the sandwich got all the bacon, avacodos were smeared... taste was okay but the Ciabatta bread was rather hard... hence why my partner had me try it. Speaking of HARD, the chocolate dipped strawberry was frozen and about broke off my two front teeth taking a bite. I realize strawberries aren't in season, but how long have they been stored in the industrial freezer? It was partially green, tasted unripe, and you could tell by it's leaves that it was WAY past it's prime. The Cheesy Dipper Breadstick was also a bit hard. Not too big in size. Not the worst part of the meal though. I shudder to think what the soups are like at this location given my first time experience. It really seems by the reviews and what I experienced that this location needs a major management overhaul and new employees. QUALITY should always matter! Upon our arrival there were at least twenty people in line but we didn't have to wait more than ten minutes. I'm impressed with the speed of everyone behind that counter. Good job!! Today I tried a new bowl, the Golden Curry protein bowl. It's half salad and half wild rice and their curry soup over the rice. Even though there wasn't any dressing I didn't miss it. The soup side was good enough and the liquid from the soup (thick too) was great as it leaked into the salad. It's a different experience but let me tell you how good it is!! The curry flavor was nice, not too spicy at all. I'd definitely get this again. My hubby knowing I love summer desserts chose to get us both the Strawberries and cream cup. The cream is slightly sweetened and went well with the nicely ripe berries (which made it taste all the better). I'd get this again too. Worst establishment I've ever been to . Good lord these kids need to all be fired and management needs to come in and relearn and reattach how to run an organization. Especially one that needs to be fast with customer service . This place left me repulsed with how incompetent the workers are at trying to get things done . Over 9 people touched my food . In order to finally get it down to me and at the end the gentlemen is yelling down at the person at the front of the line it's just embarrassing felt like I was at a social hangout ... behind the counter is so bad. Im enjoying the protein bowl options at Zupas. Especially since they advertise just how much protein you're getting in each bowl. The ingredients are all very fresh tasting. They didn't ask what I wanted as my base this time around so I didn't get exactly what I want. The line is a little slow but not terrible. Decent lunch option. read more

Service I approached the counter. The young man asked me "what can I get for you?" I responded. "I need two large soups to take to my Wife in the hospital". They said you'll need to move down by the soups, which I do. They kept making salads and sandwiches for everyone who came after me and the line was moving behind me. Finally, a young man says "which of these sandwiches is yours?" I say "I ordered two soups", he replies, "oh geez I'm so sorry we don't have someone doing soups" and it literally took me about an hour from the time I got in the building to getting out of the building and the line wasn't that long. It's just... they were helping everyone except me! Literally have to tell them what's in the protein bowls. Twice I have ordered the power protein bowl and don't even get half the protein!! EVERYTIME they forget the egg. My wife went to the Zupas in Layton for carry out. I wanted the Southwest Avocado bowl. She ordered her Strawberry Harvest Salad. When she got home, I grabbed my order and there was no Avocado. Very disorganized. Placed an online order that was supposed to be ready by 7:16pm. It wasn't. The guy working the online orders said they were behind. I didn't mind that, I understood that but you have another person that's supposed to be helping out all over the place. Working on online orders and store customer orders at the same time without finishing the online order first. He proceeds to go to the back and then walks back and doesn't finish the order. I got a text saying my order was ready at 7:23 but it wasn't. I had to go ask the cashier to check on my order and when she checked it wasn't ready. She told the guy that was supposed to be working on it to finish it so he looks at the bag puts the food inside and said it was ready. Something told me to double check it and one item was missing so I went back to the cashier to tell her my item was missing and she found my item on the counter right next to the where my bag was. The person that said it was ready and put all the items inside didn't double check to make sure all items were inside. It would have been faster if I would have placed my order inside the store. All of the employees wear plastic gloves since they are handling food but they keep touching their hats with their gloves on and don't bother to change them. One of the girls working there fixed her glasses, touched touched her forehead like she was removing sweat from it then proceeded to touch the rest of her face. My fiancé had never tried Zupas. I wasn't going to let him go any longer without trying their magnificent food. We placed an online order and it was ready to be picked up within 15 minutes. Picking up our food was easy. We just walked passed the line and found our bag of food on the shelf. We were in and out in less than a minute. The food was absolutely delicious! He and I both got the same thing, the Turkey bacon avocado (tba) and the enchilada chili soup. I had forgotten that each meal comes with a chocolate covered strawberry, so that was a nice surprise! I came in to get dinner for my son and his family after spending several days moving them into their new home. So everyone was exhausted and hungry. Employees weren't very helpful. I was disappointed in the kids' drink selection. They only have white milk or sodas. No chocolate milk or juices like most places offer. Employees wouldn't give me two sauces for chicken strips--just one that my grandsons fought over. Ridiculous. Their macaroni and cheese had egg noodles instead of elbow macaroni but was still yummy. Same with their chicken strips. Soups, salads, and sandwiches were good. Chocolate strawberries are always a hit. Too bad they don't have drive-thru or a bigger parking lot. We came here last week and it's been maybe about 2 years since I've been back - plus COVID. It's still nice inside - I got the same order I normally get (large lobster bisque w/ a crab avocado sandwich) & tbh, the lobster bisque was a bit watery and my brother also said their clam chowder was runny too. The desserts, however, were amazing. We had the chocolate cake & it was delicious as were the complimentary chocolate dipped strawberries. We had salads and loved them! Ashley at the register was sweet and efficient. The reason 4 stars and not 5 is because they gave very small portions and limited the number of ingredients. Ill just give an overview of the flavors and delivery experience. Was a Saturday night and interested in not cooking. Wanted something different. My wife loves Cafe Zupas for lunch, so we decided to go that route for dinner. We chose to DoorDash it. After some lengthy wait time and some communication with our dasher, there was some confusion at the restaurant as to where our order was. Apparently it was ready, but they couldn't find it. Sounds like they found it but never put our name on the order. After about another 30 minutes it was finally delivered. We're only ~7 miles away. I ordered half chicken noodle soup and half turkey-bacon-avocado sandwich on ciabatta. Oldest son ordered just chicken noodle soup. Youngest son ordered Mac and cheese soup. Wife ordered turkey bacon avocado sandwich and half Mac and cheese soup. My sandwich was decent. Honey mustard was good, but seemed to only make it to one of the halves of my sandwich. The chicken noodle was good at first, but man, it was beyond salty. I couldn't finish it. Wayyyy too much salt. I don't know if this is typical or we just got it on an off day. My oldest son loves chicken noodle soup but also couldn't finish his as it was way too salty. I tasted the mac and cheese soup and that was pretty good. Wish I got that instead. I think just my half soup and sandwich was about ~$13.00. For what I received, I don't think it was a good value. $60 total for 2 soups and 2 half soup/half sandwiches. Sandwich was OK but not for the double-digit price range. It was nice to change things up a bit for delivery, but Im not sure we'll be ordering from Zupa's again anytime soon. Not sure what the issue was about our missing order that required our DoorDasher to have to wait around. ***An update is that I realize that the pricing is DoorDash prices, not in-store price which would be a bit less. read more

I wish they would decide where the curbside pick up is going to be. The sign last time was tossed in a bush, this time customers eating inside, parked in the pick up spaces, because no curbside sign was visible. The Soups are delicious as the salad Pretty much everything is great. My only suggestion would be on the sandwich option to customize.. I don't want bread at all- have a lettuce wrap option( I don't want carbs) but there isn't a special instructions are either. And what happened to the million dollar cookie? Friend & I stopped in around 4p on a Friday for a light early dinner. There were only 2 couples ahead of us, but it seemed to take a very long time to become "our turn." I don't know if they weren't deciding quickly or if it was the preparer. I'm going to go with the former, because the preparers were very nice & made a concerted effort to please. I was offered samples of the soups since I couldn't make up my mind. Tried the Wisconsin Cauliflower but opted for the Lobster Bisque, which was very good. Was just going to get soup, but the Asian Citrus Chicken Salad looked too good to pass. I would have enjoyed a little more dressing and a little less lettuce, but I'd definitely order it again. We went with the "Try Two" combo for $9.99, which came with the above, plus a cookie, a roll and a chocolate covered strawberry - very nice touches. Was disappointed I couldn't do 2 soups, because there others I wanted to try, but was told that wasn't the deal. Underwhelmed. I ordered my turkey bacon avocado sandwich, and was asked if I wanted white or wheat. I asked for white, and the reply was, "ummm, we're out of white." THEN WHY DID YOU ASK ME? My wife got the Wisconsin cauliflower and hers was piping hot. At checkout, we noticed that we didn't have those tasty baguette rolls on our tray. We asked about it, and the reply was, "oh, we're out of those." How do you run out of white bread and rolls on a Saturday at a soup and sandwich joint? My problem is not with the workers as they were very friendly and helpful, but I am disappointed in their lack of options for vegan meals. I ordered a chickpea veggie soup which the workers said was vegan, and the flavor was great but I didn't get any chickpeas. I tried to order their vegetarian sandwich with modifications but was told all their bread had milk. I then decided on a mango salad without the yoghurt dressing which tasted pretty good. I came in hungry and unfortunately didn't really feel satisfied after this meal. Please consider some more vegetarian options that can be modified to vegan and a vegan bread option. read more

I have a love hate relationship with Cafe Zupas. Does the food taste like a little old Italian lady is making my food (I don't even know if Zupas is considered Italian, but I am just going to run with it)? Yes. Is the service good? Yes. Am I happy while eating it? Yes. Are the chocolate strawberries good? Yes, sometimes. The only problem is I am never full when I leave. I get the sandwich and half soup, and ALWAYS leave hungry. For the amount I pay, I expect to be full when I leave. The turkey bacon avocado panini and the tomato basil soup is dank. I mixed the green chili and Wisconsin Cauliflower and it was hero I wasn't looking for. Food is good, but serving size is small and over priced. read more
