DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT! I ordered delivery from here and when the delivery driver came to drop off the order, it was the wrong order. No problem, I understand mistakes happen. So I reached out to deliveroo to request a refund and dispute this but unfortunately they couldn't give us a refund due to us not having proof of the wrong delivery order. I didn't want to keep the wrong order because I didn't want that food and it would just go to waste. So i reached out to this restaurant in an attempt to solve this problem and I received the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my entire life. I was very calm and respectful and explained the whole situation as best as I could and asked the woman on the phone if she was able to assist me in providing proof. The woman I talked to on the phone was very rude and nasty. She told me that she could not help me because they were "too busy" and then proceeded to put me on hold and eventually hang up on me. Their customer service is disgusting and I've never experienced worse customer service than this. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves taking money from struggling college students. P.S. It's a nice enough cafe for sure. Nothing extraordinary, though I have to say I liked that they heated up the croissant I ordered and served it with butter and jam. I wasn't too excited about their cappuccino. The staff was friendly and definitely knew their regulars. I'd be back when I'm again in there area, especially to try their lunch. read more

Café Java, the coffee shop that only seems to be in the more well heeled area's, takes pride of place here in Sandymount village. Yes there is browns across Sandymount green, for the more well heeled among you. €10 for a pannani and any coffee, is that suppose to be an incentive? Although this Café Java doesn't have the same buzz at their Blackrock branch, which always seems to be busy and lively, its a nice little coffee shop all the same, they do pretty much the usual café fare as well as a busy brunch trade on a Sunday, although I can't stuff the stuff they do a very nice Eggs benny (benedict) so I'm reliably informed. read more

Call me jaded, but I was never impressed with Cafe Java's "too cool for school" perspective, even if it is in Sandymount village. Yes, they have a sweet spot on the main street and enjoy a reliable and heavy-pocketed lunch crowd during the week... but that's no reason to cop an attitude. On my last visit (guaranteed to be my last) my lunch time decompression was shared with a horde of D4 preteens swinging their Ugg-booted feet and ordering round after round of hot chocolates from harried staff, no doubt practising for their eventual move to the bar at Ron Blacks. By the time the order made it to the girls' table, Java's less than perky staff had clearly made their politeness quota for the day. After waiting twenty minutes for my spicy chicken wrap, then getting it practically tossed across the table to me, my mind was made up. I don't need you, Cafe Java! I don't need your cramped dining area, your weak coffee I've mistaken as tea or your crushed Pringles which pass as a side with lunchtime sandwiches. And sorry, if you insist on brazenly charging me almost €2 for a bottle of Diet Coke when I can buy the same thing at the Tesco across the street... we might just have words. read more

As I used to live in the area the Java was my regular to grab my morning coffee or during afternoon to enjoy the Sandymount Green. The staff was always really friendly and patient on the days I was with my babysitter child who request lots of marshmallow but only the pink ones with her babycino ;) These days I get back for my mocha with the yummy chocolate sprinkles and stroll along the Sandymount strand to enjoy the rare sunny summer days. read more

I walked around Sandymount strand with my in-laws and got hungry so we were looking for a place in the area. This coffee shop is fairly small, practical and has a few chairs and tables outside, so a great spot for a sunny day. As it was a bit windy, we went inside. The space is small but not cramped at all and it is indeed a bit noisy with no music in the background. I really liked the menu as it's quite extensive and cheap - even more if you consider not only Dublin prices but D4 prices. The service was quick and friendly enough, and I noticed that most of the employees are foreign students. For the price I wasn't expecting very big portions. I saw a few cakes that looked delish on the counter but I was craving pancakes and was delighted to find this option available in their menu. You can get yourself several options ranging from fruits, scones, toasts, omelettes, porridge, muffins, full Irish and even a Mexican breakfast in a tortilla (again, great variety for a small cafe AND this breakfast is served ALL day). I was only a bit disappointed when I realized that they should've been more honest in the description of what was served, as they don't have real pancakes but thin crepe layers. The fruit salad was beautiful but they only have Greek yogurt, which is too acidic for my taste. The croissant looked a bit burned and was clearly reheated many times, so not fresh and the regular cups of americano were small and everyone asked to have a bit more added to their mugs. Overall the place has potential and the prices are very competitive (each plate goes from 4 to 7€). I would go back to try their waffles, but they could use a boost in the points mentioned. read more

Cafe Java in Sandymount has been around a long, time and it is still one of my favourite spots, for quick bite to eat, or a long catch up with friends, recently went here few weeks ago, and there menu has been revamped, I decided to try something new, I got the bacon and avocado which was on the menu but I decided to to go for the spicy chicken mix Instead of bacon, it was lovely, was such a big fan of it! The staff in Sandymount are always so nice and always make sure, everything is ok! Would really recommend cafe Java for something nice and easy read more

Food is ok, nothing amazing. I usually go for the club sandwich on brown bread. Coffee and cakes are generally good. Although staff are pleasant, service can be slow enough. Its also quite expensive and the toilets have often been unclean in my experience. read more

Spongebob is alive and well ( well actually a little dehydrated and sunburnt) in Sandymount. Cryptic? This is all going to sound exaggerated. I only kick myself that I didn't take photos! 3 staff on the floor, 4 customers ( inculding ourselves), We waited 15 min to have an order taken. "Food" arrived another 15 minutes later, at which point we still hadn't received coffees. The "omelette" was a rectangular affair and suspiciously resembling our good friend Spongebob. Dry spongy vileness. The "first dayer" waitress clearly hadn't had as much as 5 minutes of training. Not her fault. The coffee eventually arrived(35 min after arriving) , which had no creme, was bitter watery offensive. I sent my food back and said not to bother bringing anything else. Also a word of warning, the little wall that seperates the cafe from the kitchen is not soundproof and the "chefs" reaction was heard all over the restaurant. The staff were rude and unfacilitating. The manager worse. Food horrific. Floor was filthy, table was dirty, cutlery was dirty. Dreadful Dreadful Dreadful. If there were minus stars i would award them. I get saddened that in this age of economic difficulty places like this survive simply because they have relevant footfall , when others who care about food , service and have integrity in what they do are struggling. read more

Cafe Java is always busy, though I have yet to fathom why. The coffee is weak and overpriced, and the food is just as plain. Dare I say it, but the filled rolls from the deli in Spar next door pack more flavour, and for less than half the price. I have tried to enjoy lunch here on several occasions and been disappointed again and again. Perhaps that's what the place trades on - repeat customers trying desperately to find a redeeming feature because of the lack of a decent cafe in the area. On the plus side, it is conveniently located in the centre of the village, and is more spacious (and slightly cheaper) than Brownes on the Green. read more
