My friends and I went there because we heard they have good food. We wanted to go to somewhere other than Zippy's that's open later than 10:00. The oxtail soup was Fabulous! Tasty and the oxtail was meaty and tender, mustard cabbage , shiitake mushrooms , peanuts and Chinese 5 spice . Most of the ordered the beef stew. They were all raving how onolicious it was. Another friend had the chicken strips and fries. The chef Justin came out to meet us I'm not sure if a bunch of seniors frequent their establishment often He was very friendly and personable! I'm there for pool, but I recently been ordering food bc usually bar food is... meh. HOWEVER, I ordered the hamburger steak with mushrooms, onions and gravy... it's so tasty!!! I love the charred edges of the meat, yet it is tender. I thought nothing could be comparable to Victoria Inn's hamburger steak. First off, huge CON: Parking! Tiny lot and maybe about 8 stalls for such a popular place of it's size... Other than that, nice chill spot with good grinds and of course, DRANKZ! They have pool tables, darts and big TV screens. Pool and darts weren't being played though, probably covid restrictions. I just wanted a place to chill and drink nearby, this spot serves it's purpose well. They have daily specials. On the day of our visit I was looking forward to saimin, but they ran out. So, go early I guess. The drinking cut off time was 10pm BOO. All cups needed to be taken away around 9:58pm. I was not happy about that, but if you can tank it, go for it! We ordered steak, seared ahi and fries. All were really good and with our drinks, the tab was reasonable. We were able to get to-go boxes for our unfinished food, too bad no to-go cups lol. Went to this bar for the superbowl and it was fun! Definitely a dive bar for the locals but surprisingly had DELICIOUS food! The kimchi fried rice was outstanding with lots of flavor. The tater tot nachos were super cheesy and delicious. The bbq pizza had too much bbq sauce (too overwhelming) but still good. Honestly, some of the best bar food I've had. Right next to Toma's karaoke, don't miss the entrance to the parking lot right by the dumpsters or you will have to go around the block since it's a one way street! Or you can always find street parking nearby since the parking lot is a bit cramped. Don't be misled by the menu that says 5-10pm, they serve food til 11pm! I was very impressed with the taste, price, and can't wait to go back to try more things! There is also a specials menu on the wall and from that we tried the kimchi fried rice (it was ok, not amazing) and the margherita pizza (pretty good, pesto sauce base, I think it's the same as the pesto pizza on the menu). The main big hitters were the loaded tots (very good portion for the price, lots of toppings and made fresh to order) and the garlic mushroom pizza (yum, lots of mushroom flavor). We also go the the garlic fried chicken which was more salty than we were hoping for, but the texture was fantastic, mochiko-like and the portion size was incredible! I came here to take my friend to dinner since it was nearby. We came around on a Thursday at 6:00-6:30PM. They are located off of South Beretania, a little after the intersection once you pass Teddy's Bigger Burger (which is on the right side of the street), on the left side. The driveway is small so its easy to miss - drive slow! It wasn't very busy at the time we came, so we were seated very quickly. All of the workers were very nice and welcoming. We ordered the Loaded Nachos (since it was the special for Thursday) and the special Crispy Pork plate. We got the Crispy Pork first. It was their take on a crispy pork plate with a lechon-kawali kind of twist. It was served with rice, mac salad, and a topping of tomatoes and onions. While I appreciated the unique crispy, deep fried take on the pork, the pieces they used were a hit or miss - fat or no fat, basically. It was also just a tad bit too salty for me. My friend's first comment was that it was too salty for her. The sauce they used was very vingeary. Like the salt, it was a little bit too much vinegar to the point of masking all other flavors the pork had left to offer. The mac salad had a lot of mayonnaise, which isn't a bad thing but I prefer a lighter salad. The Loaded Nachos was on special for $5 that day. It had a good formula going - chips stacked with cheese, sour cream, ground beef, sour cream, olives, jalapeños, and a salsa fresca (tomatoes, onions, cilantro mix). It was okay. I would have loved to eaten more kitchen-made elements of this dish rather than canned, store bought ingredients, such as the chips, jalapeños, cheese. Prices are good. Its reasonable for a sports bar. But not sure if the quality justified the prices. Also, not sure if the Loaded Nachos are always that size or maybe because it was the special that day but it was pretty small, fitting on a standard circular styrofoam plate, only worth $5, and I wouldn't pay more. The Crispy Pork Plate was $10 and based off of quantity, it is justified but taste wise, (both hands in air shrugging emoji). Hopeful that we just ordered the wrong items and that there are other menu items they specialize in. I read a lot of good reviews so I do believe they have better things to offer. Just a little disappointed in our experience because this was the first dinner I took my friend from the mainland to and she did not like it. I've come here a couple times with friends. It's chill. They have 22 tv screens, dart boards and pool tables. The bartenders are nice. There's really nothing to complain about. This is not a fancy place. Don't expect modern and hip ambiance or decor. It's very casual. People come here to eat and drink and talk loudly and watch sports or play darts. The parking lot isn't very large and can fill up rather quick, but I've usually been able to find street parking easily. The drinks are good and cheap and the bartender we had was really nice and friendly, without being fake or pretentious. It was nice. They have delicious looking food. They also have a specials board, so check that out if you're here for food. Was in the mood for pool and darts, but it was Monday and Hawaiian Brian's was closed. Thank goodness for Cafe Anasia! They have several dart boards and two pool tables. Lots of tv screens to watch any sports games you may want to see. All the bartenders and waitresses here are super friendly and get your drinks out to you fast! They have a full kitchen here, but honestly I'm pretty basic with bar food and always go for French fries. We got some kind of garlicky bacon fries and they were DELICIOUS. Cafe Anasia seems to always be busy. It's funny since it's located in the middle of nowhere..well, not exactly nowhere but it's not located right next to other bars like in Chinatown/Downtown or Waikiki. When my friend first told me about it in the beginning of the summer, I was so confused. The sign doesn't even advertise that it's a bar, yet everyone seems to know about it. There are daily drink specials and a pool table in the back. There's also a basketball machine and several dart board machines also. Darts are very popular at Anasia and you need to get there early...or very late if you want to play. The servers and bartenders are all very nice and the place seems to always be filled with regulars. As for food, the food used to be pretty good until a few weeks ago when they changed the kitchen staff. But they seem to be slowly improving still. We went last week and our fries in our cheesy garlic fries were drenched in oil and soggy. When we went in this past Friday, it was a lot better. Not the best but definitely a great improvement from the previous fries. Not all the food needs improvement though. They are also serving malasada burgers which are delicious but pricey..especially for the size. Parking is tight at Ala Moana and they have just short of half a million stalls. Must be, right? The good news, you can usually find parking in the lot on the side of the building next door, or along Beretania, or even Young st. The best thing about it? I live right down the street. My favorite neighborhood watering hole. I mean sports bar. Yeah. This is a magical place full of dirty walls and cheap drinks. Loud noises from music and people will surround you. Cheap dart games will be going on, pool players will be shooting their balls, and those who are thirsty will be sitting around tables on comfortable couches getting drunk with some good bar food. Why do I like Anasias? Because the workers are friendly, they have awesome specials everyday of the week, and lots of darts! There isn't just one board hiding in the corner, but a room with a few and some right as you walk in. It's also a pretty spacious place, but does get packed. Parking: there's parking in the front of the place, but you're able to park in the lot next to it too. Or find street parking. Food: I love their food offerings. They're listed as Vietnamese because they offer Vietnamese selections to eat while you're there. But if you just want good ole nachos and fries they have those too. The fatty in me enjoys that they are generous with their toppings. For examples, if you order the Kahlua pork nachos, you will get Kahlua pork nachos. Not just "chips with a pinch of cheese and pork" sprinkled on top. Mmmmmmmmmm Gotta love that gooey fake cheese they use. Oh and service is great here. They check up on you enough to feel remembered, let you stay literally till they close without being too mean and kicking you out, and bring you loads of their complimentary bar snacks if you wish (Doritos, popcorn, peanuts, etc). Started the night around 9. They have limited parking but luckily we got the last stall in their lot. My friend parked it so that we could get out easily, which didn't work since another car parked in front blocking her way out. There were a decent amount of parties already seated inside. The UH football was playing (their last game), and of course there would be fans cheering. It got quieter after the game ended. We ordered chicken wings: a bit dry. I got to try some of their pho. It was okay. Apparently that's what happens the first time you try it and after you'll learn to love it. Uh, that, I don't know. Had some drinks, Redd and Chamboard 7. Not a beer drinker but I could drink Redds, and the Chamboard was sweet. A small place with booths that can fill up a lot of people and games to play. Anasias is great to go to if you're looking for a dive bar, especially if you want that dive bar to have darts! There are 5 dart boards, 2 pool tables, and 1 basketball arcade game. You're set-up to have fun here. The waitresses and bartenders are all friendly and offer quick service. I have been here many times and even on nights where it's packed, we always had cold drinks. I have only gotten the standard bar foods here, including cheesy fries, garlic fries, nachos, and corn dogs. They were all okay. Nothing out of the ordinary, but that's not a bad thing. Parking for Anasia's can be horrible. If there is no parking in front, DO NOT try to keep driving to the back of the bar to park. It looks like it is parking for an apartment complex and I learned this the hard way. BUT the driveway right before Anasia is the parking lot to a brown government building, which you are allowed to park in. Still my favorite bar and possibly THE best place ever! I'm writing this update because recently I have been going more often and actually have been trying some of their other dishes. (Previously I had mentioned that the food was good, but not as good since they changed chefs a few times - I was SO wrong!). The Agedashi Tofu, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, and Salt & Pepper Pork Chops are super tasty! Wow! Talk about great bar food. Totally unexpected, exploding flavors. I love Anasia. We used to go to Surrender but now that they have closed me and my friends are free agents! Haha! We are still in the market for calling a place home but so far Anasia is coming up big for us. Parking use to be an issue but seems like they are doing better with that and now have a parking solution for $5 close by. The food is great and beer specials are awesome too! They have 6 dart boards and two pool tables and karaoke. Plus the girls that work there are very friendly and pretty on it when it comes to service. I see the same faces for a long time too so to me that's a good sign that the management keeps them happy and they like where they work. Always a plus to me. Plus Phil the master chef is truly amazing... he made us this tomato clam pasta and it is the best I ever had in any category you could put it in. me and my 4 friends came in last night around 1:15am for one drink to end our night. when the server came over she checked our IDs and then after our order asked for a card but I was the only one that ordered she mentioned there was a $15 minimum so all my friends ended up getting some so we'd hit the minimum which was fine but kind of annoying. Then when we wanted to pay out it took 30mins to get my card back and it was already too late to order another drink sonce they did last call. So all my friends and I sat there with empty drinks waiting for my card for 30 MINUTESSSSSS. Always great food and service. Jess is great waitress, very friendly and attentive. It's nice because she remembers us (yeah we go their often). My fiends and I order the same food all the time. We order, kimchee fried rice (over easy egg), edamame, pork chops and my favorite cheesy fries. Haha, yes cheesy fries with cheese on the side (keeps the fries from getting soggy). On a recent run from work in Kalihi to home in Kaimuki, I noticed this place on S. Beretania Street and decided to check things out. Initially noticing that it had Vietnamese on their signage, I was interested to see if this place was cool. I prolly should have read the yelp reviews on this place first before committing, since it was not what I had expected at all. Needless to say, it was an interesting, but an overall enjoyable experience. Yes folks. This place is a sports bar. I thought it was a Vietnamese restaurant. My bad. Well, I didn't mind either way, since I needed some form of alcohol that night after a bout of craziness at work. The ambiance was an interesting mix of people and loud music. The staple here is bar food and a good mix of clientele who are here for a nice evening and a great time out with friends. It's nice to chill out here with a bottle or two and just to forget your problems for a couple of hours. Maybe more. The prices are good here and the food is consistent wherever you do find alcohol anywhere. Comfort food at it's peak and Hawaii soul food, to be sure. The service is good and fast, but come down early or late night for good seats in the house. There is a small private lot fronting Cafe Anasia but if it is full, you can find parking in the nearby residential areas - on the street. This place is a hidden gem for those who want to try out new watering holes and to scout out new places to hang out in, but for me, I kind of wanted Pho that night. No biggie. $5 pitchers of Rolling Rock and $5 steak special on Wednesday and a few games of pool is what we happened upon. Lucked out with a parking spot but seems like the lot can be hard to park in if busier. Staff was friendly and service was prompt. The $5 steak was tasty but small (5-6 oz, about 6-7 slices). Pitcher was one of the smaller sized ones but for $5, it was awesome. COLD beer = crowd seemed friendly. The menu has some good options but we didn't get to try anything beyond the steak. Pool is $1/ game and there's 2 tables. Overall a sweet spot. UPDATE: The owners really care about their customers, because if someone says anything slightly negative on Yelp, or even to a server, they will do their best to address the issue, fix the problem, and make things right. It's nice to know that there are business owners who understand what great customer service is. I will definitely be frequenting this place more often. Good drinks, great food, darts, a basketball game and a cool jukebox that you can use your smartphone to add songs too! The servers are really friendly, and extremely efficient. They are a little too efficient, which is why I took off one star. I had a vodka cocktail, and when I got close to the bottom it looked like melted ice I guess and the waitress took it away without asking if I was done. I was told later by my boyfriend who used to be a regular that I should put a napkin on it if I'm not done because that always happens. So I guess you have to always hold your drink or put a napkin on it or it will be taken away. I discovered that the touchtunes jukebox could be controlled with your smartphone, and immediately downloaded the app, put some money in my account and started adding songs to the jukebox right from my seat! I thought that thing was so cool, I used all the money ($5 bought me 8 songs). You can even create a playlist before you get there, and push it through once you're there. (Okay, maybe this portion is a review of the app itself, but how cool is it that you are kind of like a DJ from your seat?) The only bad thing about the music is that the house music is extremely louder than the jukebox music. We had to ask to turn up the jukebox music because we could barely hear it, and when there were no more jukebox songs, the house music blasted everyone. Finally checked out this place and I'm glad I did. Nice local kine crowd, good age range from young to older folks, and not overly loud or rowdy, even with the UFC fights going on. Food was your typical bar food, but good. Ribeye steak was on point! The service however was what made my visit really memorable. I love the bar ambiance. I love darts so it's cool they have so many dart boards and even a private area for darts. There's pool tables too, and a bathroom and lots of open seating for large groups in booth. Must say... I was not a fan of the food. Got the gyoza, beef salad, pork pad thai. Eh. I think I need to stay with the basics you can't mess up like fries and the wings, I think I'd try those next time, so that's why it's a 4 star. But I'd come here for drinks, and fun ambiance.
