I get very annoyed when people pick these Italian restaurants and don't know what good Italian food is. I am 100% Italian and I am used to my grandmother's traditional dishes. Caffe Italia represents traditional Italian meals. They are all about quality not quantity. We probably go to the restaurant about once a week and it is always consistent. The service is great, the food is fantabulous, and the drinks are perfect. I'd recommend making a reservation if you are going on a Saturday night. Our favorite dishes include: pear and gorgonzola salad, eggplant donna, chicken fussili and rabbi, and braised short ribs. Honestly, we have never had a bad meal in there. They usually have some delicious and creative specials. Overall, we love Caffe Italian and you should try it. read more

Great Italian food with decent prices; but be sure to call ahead for reservations if you expect to be seated. It's a smaller sized restaurant but limited street parking. We arrived around 6:15 on a Thursday night and all the open tables already reserved so we had to wait ~20 mins. Just had dinner here for the first time. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and definitely feels a bit more upscale. The restaurant was fairly empty with only two other tables filled, but we expected as much given the snow storm outside. So our service was never a problem...our waitress was readily available throughout the evening. The food was very good and we had a difficult time choosing what to order from the menu. I ended up getting the Chicken Saltambocca, which is probably not my favorite dish in the world, but very tasty nonetheless. I would have liked a little more prosciutto but I had no complaints. My ma ordered the vegetable & rice soup, which was good (could have used some more broth) and the lamp chop appetizer, which was actually very tender and quite delicious. I loved it here and will definitely come back! I came here with my office for a Christmas party. The service was wonderful. The food was perfect! Everybody was very happy with their food. I, of course, had the pan seared salmon with risotto. Anytime I see pan seared, that's for me! It was perfectly seared to give it that crunch that I love without too much of it. After reading the two prior reviews, one good, one bad, we decided to try out Cafe Italia in Wakefield this weekend. We were seated promptly and the server was over before we had our coats off. The service was rushed, we didn't even have time to read the whole menu before the server was requesting our order. We had to ask for more time, and when she came back (1-2 minutes later) we were told the entire order had to be placed at once, not appetizers first. So we quickly chose our main course and placed the entire order. We asked for more bread twice, since the first basket had some undercooked rolls, but it was never brought to us. The meals were very good, red sauce was tasty, pasta al dente and the appetizer salad plentiful and inventive(one salad easily serves two people). The server recommended one of the pasta specials, which was also very good. She informed us that all bread, pasta and deserts were homemade at the restaurant. Deserts, which were rushed upon us, were average. Overall, we found the food very good, but the service so-so. Hopefully as Cafe Italia matures, they will move to more of a dining experience vs. pushing people through dinner to turn over tables quickly. Our whole meal was completed within an hour, which is a little fast for our taste. We will try Cafe Italia again, it has great potential for a more relaxing experience. read more

Went there for the second time tonight and it was great. Last time there was about 6 of us so we got a bunch of apps and shared..the Eggplant Donna was delish. There was a scallop one that was yummy as well. The rolls are always warm and fresh (I have been known to judge a restaurant on their rolls!) and I loved these ones. For my meal tonight I had the chicken marsala which was really good. Big portions so plenty of leftovers. Our waiter was very sweet. Nice ambience. read more

This place has good food, but the menu is lacking. The salads are overpriced, and a lot of things are overpriced on the menu. I went there last week and it was not very good. I ordered off of the 3 course menu and got the chicken parm. It was bone dry and overcooked and for one of the specials is was not very special. The size was also pretty small. My friend got the fish which was described as flavorless with a soggy coating. The waitress abandoned us several times. When we told her the fish was bad, she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. The Brocolini with garlic and white beans appetizer was good but everything else from the service to the food was just a bad experience. read more

The previous reviewer , tina b, is correct about the host/waiter guy. and he's still there. we haven't been to c. italia in a while but after seeing a review on tv diner we decided to return. while we already liked the food, it certainly has improved. all our meals and drinks were fine, and the dessert we all shared was yummy. You can tell they put effort into using the freshest ingredients. But, it seems like the owner hasn't dealt with his cranky, abrupt, and overly aggressive waiter. He's the same one we had last year and made a very good food experience less so because of his attitude. Someone mentioned that he's a family member so I guess he's there to stay. Too bad. Overall we had a fine experience. Next time we'll be sure to ask for a different waiter. The bus service needs some refinement. It's slow and a bit unattentive. Of course we love the ambiance there. All I have to say is WOW. From the food, to the owner and staff. Vinny was our first waiter, he made us feel right at home and recommended his favorites on the menu ( have now tried many meals, all being delicious!!). We were fortunate enough to meet our bartender, and fabulous chef! Vinny also showed us there newly renovated room upstairs, it was BEAUTIFUL! I am still looking for a function to host up there. Ive been here a few times and the food and staff are amazing! My go to dish are the short ribs, the best ive ever had anywhere, so tender over risotto. The parpadelle pasta is also amazing. Would have been 5 stars, but the host was insanely rude and the bartender was slow, scatter-brained, inattentive, and annoyingly chatty. Fortunately, the bartender was visiting from their other restaurant so it may be possible to avoid her. The host looked put out with us for walking in without a reservation. Is it really a reservation only type of place? NO! That was the down points but it is still 4 stars because the food was amazing and the value even better! The bleu cheese salad was extraordinary as was the wedding soup. Best shrimp scampi I ever ate - not too greasy or garlicky but full of flavor with huge shrimp. At $18, it was a total steal. My mother got a steak with huge potato wedges and a delicious sauce. Steak was perfectly cooked and so tender! Again, a huge portion. Finished off with a chocolatey dessert that was rich and perfect to share. Three couses plus a martini, a beer, and coffees was $85 (without tip) and we had a huge amount of food to take home. The best Halibut ever. I ordered the pan seared Halibut special tonight and it was out standing. The lemon sauce was perfect with the fish and vegetable combination. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Went to dinner tonight to celebrate a graduation and had a 6:30 reservation. The waitress came over and introduced herself and took our drink orders and brought us bread within the first 15 minutes after that she was nowhere to be found. 30 minutes later she came back over and we settled on some appetizers to hold us over. Once the appetizers came out we were completely forgotten about it took an hour and a half after we finished our appetizers for her to take our food order and then an additional hour for the food to come out. The ENTIRE time we waited for our food no one came to refill our waters or drinks or ask us how we were doing. The table next to us had been acknowledged 3 times in this time span and we were ignored. When the issue was brought to our waitresses attention she became extremely defensive and told us that she had been checking in on us the entire time. When I lifted my empty water glass and told her it has been empty for over an hour she simply said "oh ok I'll get you more" with NO apology. This place is an embarrassment and I will never recommend it to anyone. read more

To give credit, their red sauce is delicious, but I agree with the other reviews in that they overcook their food. I love this place! I am here 3-4 times a month. There is no turnover in staff which speaks volumes about management. Everyone that works here knows the clientele and is very attentive. We love coming to this local restaurant. We enjoy sitting at the bar. Drinks are generous. Vinny (who is part owner/ bartender) is always on top of everything. Great bartender! Wow pretty sure it was gonna be the Italia I remembered from Maverick Square! Probably would have been but our waiter was inattentive and got our dishes wrong. Chicken fussil and broccoli rabe , dish showed up with no fusilli and canelilini beans, Now don't get me wrong I like that with the pasta, brought the dish back with no sauce and lingering beans, which tells me they picked the chicken and rabe out and forgot the sauce . When I call the waiter over he says yah I know no sauce, seriously. Terrible waiter served my dish knowing I wouldn't like it! Shame on you. Then went to get it remade and came over and said do you want dessert!!!! yah maybe after I get my meal. Get a clue waiter don't disgrace me and cafe Italia like that!! Thumbs down for our waiter! I cannot believe these reviews, I am personally shocked! My husband and I have been living in Wakefield for a few years now and were a little bit skeptical of another italian restaurant in the area. We tried Caffe Italia anyway. We were more than pleased with our meals everything from the fresh bread (which is amazing) to the salads (esp. pear, walnut, gorgonzola salad) to the main dishes are fabulous. I ordered the chicken parm the first time, something I always get and it was more than perfect. My husband got an outstanding dish with homemade tortellini in a cream sauce with chicken and peas , etc. We enjoyed tasting each others dishes and still had plenty to bring home. Not only have we gone back we have eaten their at least 6 more times in the past few months AND called in for take out. Never not once have we been disappointed with anything that we order, in fact the last time we finished we couldn't believe the consistency in the quality. I do have to admit though that the waitresses are not the most friendly of servers, but they are on top of it as far as waiting on you, so what can you do? For those who may have any doubts I recommend definately to give it a try, maybe they had a rocky beginning but I promise you wont be let down!!! My husband and I stumbled onto this place on a Saturday evening. We were searching for a restaurant and managed to get a table here after a 20 minute wait. Our food was delicious - try the calamari appetizer, it's the best I've had. The main courses were good too, especially the seafood risotto. Everything was fresh and well seasoned, except the toasted roals they brought with the salad. Overall, though, it was a great meal. Delicious! My husband and I have been in to dine several times with great service. We mostly do takeout now as we have two littles ones that aren't the best restaurant guests =) Our orders are always correct and the staff is always so accommodating when asked if we can substitute certain items. Just recently ordered the fusilli with chicken and broccoli rabe this weekend and asked to remove the broccoli rabe (too bitter for me) and substitute it for artichoke hearts - it was amazing! Disorganized, rude, unnattentive staff. First, our meal took over 1.5 hours (from the time we ordered until it arrived at our table). Second, our drinks/waters were not refilled when needed. Finally, our waitress did not attend to our table to check in on us throughout our visit, and was pracially MIA for a good portion of the evening. As a result of our dissatisfaction, we did receive a discount to our bill. However, I must say the food was not that great and definitely not worth wait/aggrevation.
