Located inside the UCSF Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision, this cafe serves coffee, pastries, sandwiches, etc. Food is surprisingly good given it looks like a well designed corporate cafeteria (building is LEED gold certified). I usually don't have very high expectations for cafe food, but I have been here a few times accompanying a loved one for check ups and follow up care, and food was rather good, so this was a good place to wait, and some seats by the wall have outlets you can use to charge phones. Wow! We ordered lunch for pick-up before heading into UCSF at Mission Bay. Our food was ready timely and packaged nicely. The staff was a little disorganized but super friendly. The food was simply outstanding. The sandwiches were made using the finest of ingredients (chicken pesto was OUTSTANDING) and are generously portioned. The accompanying mixed green salad in vinaigrette was refreshing. I will definitely come again - great food. read more

I'm so happy I discovered a new place for breakfast and lunch right across the street from work. Tired of cafeteria food and over priced cafe pastries ! This clean upscale cafe has breakfast sandwiches, chia pudding jars, fruit and amazing lunch salads and sandwiches! Friendly quick, clean and attention to food details make this place a gem ! So far I have tried their cream cheese chocolate cupcakes which brings back old memories of when my mom worked at a restaurant and I would eat these every time I visited ! I had the Romana salad with tasty chicken, lettuce, Parmesan and croutons ! So much flavor packed into a salad ! I love visiting the one in Burlingame. Food and service are always great, so decided to stop by the downtown location. Just a short message to managers: make sure your stuff doesn't eat at the same time as prepare food for customers. I observed employee bringing my food while chewing, then making smoothie for another customer and eating fruits while making it, later on picking in her teeth while making a coffee. Gloves were never changed. Customers: avoid this place if you have any allergy. read more

This is one of my go to spots in the area! There are plenty of tables for working, and some outlets against the wall. It gets busy at lunch time but is otherwise pretty quiet to get work done. The food is also pretty yummy but sometimes takes awhile to arrive when they're busy. The drinks are also decent! Highly recommend if you need a reliable place to work! read more

Stopped by this morning for something to get me through the morning. The inside of the cafe is very minimalist and was very clean. I settled on the açaí smoothie which came out to $11.41. The smoothie was good in flavor. However, it felt more like a juice than a smoothie. There wasn't much ice in it and it had a juice-like consistency. The price felt a bit extreme for a smoothie, but it was pretty good! I would like to come back and try some of the other items, especially the food which looked very good. read more

This little spot is inside of the UCSF Valley Center for Vision. I don't know that people that aren't coming into the building would know about it otherwise? I'd recommend it though. Nice tall windows with lots of sunlight and spaces to work from (I didn't take notice of how many outlets there were though). The quiche Lorraine was a little burnt on top, but did not disappoint with lots of savory bits of bacon. I also got the Apple strudel because, Friday and #treatyoself. It was delish and the server was thoughtful enough to stand it up a separate little bag so the salad wouldn't get warm. :) read more

Caffe Central is a quick sandwich/salad/soup joint for nearby workers or UCSF students to pop in for a quick lunch and while the sandwiches were decent, I can't say I was wowed by the food. The menu had a decent amount of options, and is overall affordable, but I found most of them to be unremarkable. The ambiance of the place was nice, with plenty of seating available and a decent amount of natural light, but ambiance and convenience is really all it has going for it. Overall, I'd say Caffe Central is a decent spot for a quick sandwich or salad, but there's nothing that sets it apart. If you're in the area, in a rush and need a bite to eat, it's not a bad option, but if you're looking for something truly exceptional, you want to keep looking. read more

Extremely rude employees. Waited for over 20 minutes for someone to help me with my pick up order then got yelled by an employee for asking to reheat my food when I was ignored by them for over 20 minutes If I was late it would be understandable to not want to reheat food but the food was sitting on the counter while I waited to be helped. I understand they were busy but there was no need to respond in a rude manner and have the kitchen staff make faces. When I saw the kitchen staff make faces multiple times I had to ask for a refund and when I asked for a refund I got yelled by the all 3 employees for not asking for my food on time when I waited at the pick up area for over 20 minutes. The aggression and yelling was not necessary. If a customer is not satisfied with a service they should be able to ask for a refund without being attacked by the employees. Also they proceeded to talk amongst themselves about me right in front of me and loud other customers can hear as well. Very unprofessional behavior I worked in food service I understand the stress behind having multiple orders at once but I would never treat a customer bad especially if they waited a long time to be helped. Staff needs to be retrained specially if they work right across a hospital where people can be in pain or have a family member in the hospital in critical conditions. read more

I am regular costumer. I like this place a lot. It is a hidden gem. They have good very good food and coffee. My favorites are Cuban latte and from the big variety of food is hard to pick one. I also want to say that the costumer service is outstanding. I usually go on weekdays after I get off of my work and the lady who works that shift is always very nice and friendly. This place has 5 star food and presentation. I have been ranting and raving about this place to all my co-workers. I spend about $25-35 every time I eat here. In the last month (October) I would say with online orders and in person orders I have spent over $500 eating here. I don't mind because it is that good but what I do mind is poor customer service. I had an experience that I must share. In the past, I went in with my husband a few times & he complained about the customer service. I ignored it because the quality of food. But this week I went in and my order was $38.99. This is only for one person. Paying this amount I expect quality customer service. But everyone I have encountered here needs a lesson on how to respond appropriately when a paying customer asks a question about a change in the food they receive. Upon entering they have a sign that displays: please let me know if you're picking up an online order" or something similar. I see at least 3 orders waiting to be taken to a table for eat-in and a woman walks up who I think may be the manager (tiny woman in her 40's) she ignores me waiting there & starts taking all the orders to their tables. Why would you choose to do that instead of taking less than 30 seconds to hand me my bag. Bad judgement in prioritizing time. After waiting about 5 minutes the barista asks me what I'm waiting for & I tell him the bag there may be mine, he looks and it is. He then gives it to me. I say thank you. I then look inside and notice right away that the "fruit bowl" presentation appears smaller than I usually get. I also notice that my croissant is not warmed up and I literally wrote to warm it up in the notes online but possibly it didn't save or something so I approach the cashier and I ask her if she can warm it up for me. Her response is: "Did you ask for it warmed up?" (I'm thinking she packed it up) 1) Why does that matter? 2) I'm asking now After she warms it up she feels it is necessary to prove to me that I'm wrong and she pulls up my order online on a tablet and proceeds to show it to me and say that I didn't put it in the notes. Again why does she feel the need to do this? No one said she did anything wrong but right away she had a defensive attitude which is unprofessional behavior, classless and poor customer service. Just do your job. Sheesh! Then after that I saw that lady who may be the manager and I ask her " may I ask you a question, I usually order this fruit and it's usually in a bigger container and she answered me in a defensive manner saying : NO we always put it in that size and as she is telling me this the barista feels the needs to approach and tell me the same saying NO we always use the 16oz and they both are extremely defensive and want to argue with me. I feel ganged up on. I did not want to argue. I also do not like being lied to and I am not a liar nor am i delusional. I know what I've been getting. Like I said before, I was attracted to this place for the presentation and 1 of my strengths is paying attention to detail so the dishonesty was really disheartening. At this point the cashier walks up and I have 3 people basically standing there ganging up on me. What is the purpose of their behavior? I wasn't yelling. I wasn't rude. I was very respectful and polite looking for a solution to my problem. If I was the manager, I would have said: I'm sorry if you have noticed a bigger size but this is the size that should be used. That would have solved everything in a classy professional way. I will never spend my hard earned money in this establishment just to avoid their attitudes. I also will be sharing my story with my co-workers. The manager should be ashamed of herself allowing this behavior and also setting the standards this low leading by example. read more

Came for breakfast on a weekday morning around 9 am and was pleasantly surprised with this location. It was extremely clean, had tons of seating, and the ambience was very calm. Lots of people working too, and it looked like a great environment to get some work done. I got the avocado toast with egg, and it was perfectly seasoned. Found this place while at an eye appointment. Expecting an "Ok, because I'm trapped with no other choices for food" meal, I was shocked when I got my food. I ordered the Golden Gate sandwich that comes with a salad. The sandwich was toasted, warm and yummy. Salad was super flavorful. Also, got a latte and they did the fancy design in my foam. Great food, AMAZING coffee and a great location in SF. Right next to the Warriors new stadium. They have beer and wine as well.

If I could rate them a zero star I would. workers are rude and I have went there 2x and both times workers had an attitude. The 2nd time I came 30 minutes before they closed, when I walked in they yelled they are closed. With the sign outside saying open and and the door wide open.
