This spot is an absolute lifesaver if you have jury duty at the Hall of Justice next door. I ended up coming here a few times for coffee and snack -- and the pastries were fantastic. I had the spinach feta pastry for breakfast and the guava and cheese as afternoon snack. Both were incredibly flaky and delicious. It turns out they bake everything on-site. The nice lady working there even mentioned they make their own bread for the sandwiches. Highly recommend this as a go-to cafe if you're in the area or have jury duty! Order your pastries, sandwiches and coffee and GTFO. They do have some seating right outside. I ordered their guava rolls, a chicken pastelitos and their ham croquettes. All were reasonably priced. I had the ham croquette first because it was hot and ready. You get 2 of them and damn...those croquettes are hellaella good. It's soft and crispy, a little salty but yum, I would definitely get that again. The balance out the savory I had their guava roll. The pastry was soft and flakey with good guava to cheese ratio. The guava wasn't too sweet but it made me crave savory again so I had the chicken pastry to finish off my brekkie. It was flakey and had a decent amount of chciek inside. It was good but a bit dry. The guava rolls and the croquette is where it's at! I was fully after finishing everything and saved the last guava roll for later. My office was gifted a box of their goodies that had an assortment of sweet and savory pastries, and I gleefully took the chicken one and the guava roll. She recommended the croquette which will have to try next time Cubano sandwich - 11/10 for Bay Area. 9/10 compared to Miami (way better than Versailles, but not quite Sanguich). What is there around the Hall of Justice besides the vending machine to get excited about? I happened to be in this area, so I went here on a Tuesday around 11:30am for lunch and there was no wait. I've actually been looking for a good sandwich shop, so I decided to try this place! It's a small shop with 2 small tables in front of the store, but no seating inside. Anyways, I ordered the Miami Sandwich which is like a basic turkey sandwich. When I tried it, I was a bit disappointed by how dry it is! This sandwich had mayonnaise, but I felt like it needed a lot more so I ended up adding a bunch of mayonnaise to it later. The sandwich tasted good, but the only problem was how dry it is. I'd recommend this place if you're in the area, but you shouldn't have high expectations for a good sandwich here. If you are headed to jury duty, there is NOTHING around there. Even the McDonalds is gone these days. There used to be a Subway but it is now The Social Cafe. The judge even acknowledged the Hall of Justice is a hard place to get to and there is nothing around there. I walked in to the Cafe just to look. My case was interesting but I didn't want something heavy that would put me to sleep. They have pressed sandwiches and smaller items as well. I really enjoyed my ham and cheese and maybe next time I will have the Cubano. That said, if you want something smaller I highly recommend the meat pastries! The family/owners and staff who work there are always so friendly and are able to offer suggestions if you get overwhelmed by all the yummy items they offer. And everything is so affordable, so I often find myself buying extra things to bring home to share, or just doing the Bake At Home option. If you have a busy day, they have online ordering for easy pickup and they even do delivery. My go-to items are the guava pastry and the cubano, though other items have never disappointed. In addition to Cuban sandwiches, they also serve Cuban coffee, Cuban pastries, and weekly specials. While I don't always get pastries (they are phenomenal though) I always get a sandwich. Ham and House roasted pork is densely packed in on authentic Cuban bread with pickles that perfectly add acidity. They were fresh from the oven, still warm even with the long walk back to my office. The guava jam is fresh and not overly sweet. It went well with the richness of the cream cheese. And the pastry itself was light, flaky, and airy. It's kinda refreshing - many bakeries offer a rich, buttery pastry, which is fine. But to have something light yet satisfying is nice. The bakery is small with just two tables outside. You can order online on Toasttab or DoorDash. This is a family-owned bakery, and the only Cuban bakery in the Bay. Found this place on Yelp when looking for a good Cuban coffee in the area and so happy we did, we've pretty much been going back every weekend since. The cortadito is absolutely delicious and the perfect pick me up in the morning. We had to also try their pastellitos once we saw all the delicious options from their display case. We've tried the OG and the beef pika so far and we're hooked. I'm from LA so the obvious Cuban bakery we have down there is Porto's and these are way better than any potato ball you could get. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting SF who needs a quick small bite that packs a punch. A bit of home in SF! YES to their cubanos and more because I felt like I was back in South FL when I had a bite of their food. We had them cater a work event at our office in SF and they really wowed all of us. We had a cafecito break in the middle of one of our conference days and the coffee + pastelitos really brought us all back to life! Had the opportunity to enjoy some of their mango and cheese pastelitos and they had some of the flakiest crusts one would expect in this Cuban treat. I learned she grew up in the neighborhood near where I did in Miami and I instantly knew this was going to be the real deal. Alabaooooo (that means a sense of wonder and awe) - these treats were delicious! We tried the mango and queso pastelito, cuban sandwiches, chicken pika and the spinach and cheese. What separates an ok pastelito from a great one - is the flakiness of the dough. These were *chef's kiss* delicioso. I won't lie, It's hard to find good Cuban food outside of home, and Social Cafe has this Miami girl's seal of approval. I read on their website that the owners couldn't find the perfect pastelito on the West coast, so they made their own. Social Cafe SF is, by far, the best Cuban sandwich and pastries in my living memory. Upon inspecting their menu, which is a catalog of Cuban comfort foods, I asked them where they source their bread. "We make our own bread here", responded the owner, looking me right in the eye, knowing why I asked her. In the Bay Area, every place that claims to have a Cuban sandwich fails because of the bread.
