In these days of uncharted territory, we decided to celebrate with a social distanced version of Mother's Day. I ordered from Aldo's because I've never had a bad meal there and thought it would be easy. I was thinking it wasn't going to be as good as the excellent dine in experience but was willing to give it a try. The pick up line was super long because obviously a lot of people love the place too. We waited an extra 20 minutes to get our food. While the food was good, it wasn't good enough for us to come back. Our server Ryan was down right rude, and ruined our experience for our anniversary dinner. That was enough for us to know that we won't ever return. The waitstaff is of high quality which matches the high prices. The wines are served at the incorrect temperatures which ruins them. The fish is definitely not fresh. They are only interested in "turning over the tables" and will even ask you to take your dessert to go so they can seat more guests. Just go to Steak 38, or take ride to Philly. We came here for a quick lunch on a Saturday afternoon via Open Table. I never know what to expect when going to a restaurant in suburbia, but Caffe Aldo Lamberti was impressive. Be prepared to pay for valet, as they do not allow you to park your own car. Given this was on a Saturday afternoon with 2 confirmations in the restaurant, but it still threw us off a bit - so make sure to have smaller bills for tipping! We were sat in the bar area as the two confirmations mentioned above were taking over both dining rooms, but it was still very nice. They had a fantastic drink selection, my favorite was the Limencello Martini, which was just sweet enough. For our apps we had the bean and veggie soup (I forget the exact name) but it was incredible. I also had the eggplant without cheese for our vegan option. The shrimps that came out for my boyfriend and company were HUGE. The Lobster tails and mussels were also delicious and I do not think anyone left a drop! Our meal did take a little longer than usual (I personally did not notice) but the waiter brought out prosciutto on the house, which was an extremely nice gesture. While it would have been nice to have a heads up that our table would be at the bar, but it wasn't make or break for me. If you do care about appearances or cannot sit at a high-top table, make sure to ask when asking your reservations :) read more

This was... wow. Maybe I've been spoiled by the good Italian restaurants of Boston, Providence, and Italy, but this place....! So for starters, everyone should be warned that they require a credit card to make a reservation, and charge $25 per person for a missed or changed reservation. Our first sign at the restaurant should have been the olive oil. They've paid to have their own private label bottle, but the oil was foul, so metallic I wouldn't use it for cooking, let alone to serve with bread. (We also had to ask the server twice to please bring some, since all the other tables had bottles and we were wondering what we were expected to make of the slices of plain, grocery-store bread.) We ordered the bolognese and the scallops with shrimp raviolone. This is the first time in my life, in all the hundreds of restaurants I've been to, that I have ever sent a meal back. The first scallop I bit into was bad. Off. Spoiled. I tried a second, to be sure, and while not actually rancid, it certainly hadn't been near the ocean in MONTHS, as evidenced by it being so rubbery I needed a knife to cut it. So much for fresh seafood. I've had better from fried-seafood stands at fairs. I shudder to think how old their "catch of the day" likely was. I replaced it with the "house-made" gnocchi, hoping desperately to stay away from their seafood. I only believe it was house-made because they don't bother to roll or drop their gnocchi - they're just cut from flat dough. It was plain to see (and taste), because some were so undercooked that they had sharp corners, while others were overcooked to mush. How they managed to do both in one plate of pasta I do not know. I've also had better sauce that came from a jar. My partner's bolognese was so salty as to be almost inedible, and again the pasta was extremely underdone, almost hard. We skipped dessert. I overheard the server saying the cheesecake was house-made too - we passed. Additionally, when the check came (after we had to request it twice), there was absolutely nothing removed from the bill for the spoiled scallops. I'm not saying I expected dinner comped, but a token would have been nice. Or even a look-in from the manager or owner. I just left this place and would not recommend to anybody unless you want bar food/drinks. It took a very long time for our apps to come out and then eventually for our food to come out. Like 1hr and 30 min before we got out food and it was cold so we had to complain and then they sent us the same exact plates reheated???. My fish was cut just like I had sent it so unsure how it was reheated?? The food is very good and service commendable. Prices are New York level but the quality justifies them, We ordered a $135 dish that was supposed to include lobster. When we noticed that the lobster was missing, we asked why it was not there. The waiter was apologetic and brought the lobster separately after we complained . He also brought in the manager who was defensive rather apologetic and made it as it was our problem. He said , you have the lobster so what is the problem? I was surprised by the rather rude reaction of the manager. read more

For the entrée I selected salmon stuffed with crab meat which sounded delicious. Unfortunately the quality and presentation was much like you would expect at a bar mitzvah or wedding, overcooked, soggy oil saturated potatoes and limp vegetables which is explainable, because on the night I visited 1/2 the restaurant was closed for a private party. WAITED 3 HOURS IN TAKEOUT LINE- didn't get food until 940 at night on Mother's Day. My mother didn't even get to eat dinner on Mother's Day. Had a pick up time for 715, left a little early to be there on time just Incase. Ended up waiting in a line that didn't move for 3 hours. Called the restaurant numerous times per their instructions when pick up time was ready and NO ONE answered, not ONCE. Was left not knowing if my food was ready, where I was in line, how long the delay was. They should atleast had the decency to call the people with orders and told them they were running late and if they wanted to reschedule they could but no they couldn't even answer the phone. Not only did I wait three hours in line on Mother's Day but my parents didn't get food being I didn't get to the front of the line until 940PM!!! Quarantine has been going on for well over a month, you can't tell me they didn't know how to plan and if they couldn't handle all those orders they should have had a cut off. Who wants a day old lobster dinner when you pay 70 dollars for it fresh to have that night. Had I known I wasn't getting my food until 940 at night and would have to sit in my car for three hours in line I would have never done it. Also would have left the line but being they didn't answer I didn't know how much longer it would be and by that time was stuck on a one way road I couldn't get out regardless even if I wanted to. I realize we are in unprecedented times with our social distancing and lockdown procedures and also realize that everyone is doing their best to accommodate and are working their hardest. I truly do and am grateful for it. With that in mind I will never order food from Caffe Aldo Lamberti for pick up on a holiday EVER again. We placed our Mothers Day order to drop off at my in-laws the previous Tuesday before Mother's Day on the coming Sunday. It was an order only for two as unfortunately we could not eat with them due to social distancing and our adherence to keep them healthy. Pick up was to be at 4:45pm. On the day of we received a call at 3:50pm that they were running about an hour behind and could we come at 5:45 instead. While this is not ideal as the meal is intended for older people we understood and said we could. Upon arrival at 5:30 there were roughly 100 cars in line for pick up stretching behind the building onto Haddonfield Road and into Route 70. There we sat. We couldn't get people to answer the phone and no one was coming all the way out there to address the masses of irate customers stuck on the highway. As the food was previously paid for, which also was not inexpensive, we were stuck waiting. And waiting we did. By the time we picked up our food it was around 6:50. Well over an hour in line and over all well past two hours past what time we ordered it to be ready. Clearly they took too many reservations for anything they were possibly able to handle. Anyone with any experience in the restaurant industry, in which they have a plethora, would know it was an impossibility to come close to handle that amount of orders. When we got the food the staff was very apologetic and naturally we couldn't take it out on them as it of course wasn't their fault. My in-laws were very gracious, as always, and appreciative of the food which they said was great. My experience was by far less pleasant and with all the choices in Cherry Hill all my future business will be spread elsewhere. read more

My friends and I ended up here by a twist of fate. It was a Friday night and every restaurant in the area had at least a 2 hour wait, except for this one. Thanks to yelp, we called and luckily they were able to fit a party of ten. This made me anxious at first. Why would a big restaurant like this not be busy on a Friday night? I was wary of a flaw that made the restaurant unpopular, but no such flaw was found. Caffe Aldo Lamberti has a beautiful facade, and an equally elegant interior. Water features and blue marble details enhance the seafood theme and create a cohesive design. The staff was prompt and friendly, and the dining room was spacious and well lit. While the ambience was lovely, it was nothing compared to the food. Our waiter was generous with bread before our meal, serving us warm pizza-esque bread in addition to herbed bread with olives and olive oil. The yellowfin tuna and crab carpaccio was DELICIOUS. The coolness of the avocado and cucumber balanced the salty tuna, the plate had good presentation, and it was just the right portion for a reasonable price. I also appreciated the emphasis on freshness. I got the impression that the menu was always changing, with several daily items like catch of the day, soup of the day, and risotto of the day. The salads were a little lackluster and the restaurant does not do separate checks, but other than that the experience was perfect. read more

FOOD POISONING!!! We hosted our friend's 30th birthday here a few weeks ago. Dinner was fine, service was okay- However, and it's a BIG HOWEVER: 4 people from our party became violently ill following our dinner. The common thread? We all had the same entree. There were 4 of us who ordered the steak and crab at the table. And less than 36 hours later, all 4 of us were in the ugly throws of food poisoning. Once we connected the dots, I called the restaurant to inform them. I spoke with George, the GM, who responded to the claim with protest, then said he'd speak to the chef and call me back - which he did not. Two days later, Anna Marie called me back to apologize. I only asked that the restaurant cover the 4 dishes that caused us to be ill (not to mention miss two days of work with our heads in the toilet). She agreed, only to delay sending the gift cards until I inquired about them, and once we received, each was for $25, and not the full price of the $42 entrees. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement - this was handled incorrectly top to bottom. Key takeaways: be wary of the cleanliness of this kitchen and the character of the management. Also to be noted: there are much better places to eat in the area, so if you're in to eating good food and not becoming violently ill and having to guess which end of you will be in the toilet, better pass on this place. Beautiful place inside and out. seated us in the bar section which was fine but near where the waiters placed the orders for the kitchen even though there were other tables available. I am thinking a lot of regulars eat in this area and staff saves tables for them ( I get that). Mostly all or all male waiter that I notice with what looked like regulars sitting at the bar for drinks and dinner. That OK but it seemed my wife was being stared at. Waiter explained the nightly specials perfectly to us and we ordered an appetizer, salad and dinner. Still being check out by the guys seated at the bar. Food was OK nothing special and service was also OK. All in all we thought a little over priced for just OK food at what seemed to be a pretty high end restaurant but if you don't mind paying to much for just Ok food all is good. Lots of drink choices and what seemed to be a good wine selection. No pics this time really did not seem to matter 3 stars. We had a party of 5 for my birthday at the end of February. The seating in the front was nice. The food was horrible. The beet salad had salt on the arugula. The grilled octopus was tough. It went back. The crab cakes were full of red peppers and no other taste. The scallops were good (3) but the sauce which was supposed to be a light cream sauce looked like turkey gravy. Took my mother for her 70th birthday today. Amazing all around. Beautiful, clean and spacious establishment with impressive elegance and beauty. I couldn't have gotten a more gentleman waiter than Mitchell. He was a class act and made our dining experience special. Wine was amazing, my grilled octopus (which is my favorite plate in the world) was beautiful and tasty. My scallops over a wonderful shrimp ravioli was to die for. The service was amazing! Even the gentlemen clearing our plates were so courteous and never made us feel rushed. Dessert was a sparkling plate with crème brûlée and stenciled happy Birthday to my Mom. Jan. 05, 2019 - 6pm reservation - *Overall, I enjoyed my dinner and experience and the price was okay if it was a perfect night, wished the rest of my party had the same consistent level of food and service. It was a very mixed first time impression... Short Version There are 5 in our party of 11, who were not happy with the experience due to a combination of Service, Order Accuracy, and Taste. Long Version Water refills was always topped off but sodas refills had a long rough start. My sister's starter initially was missing TWO shrimps but was billed for EIGHT. It took about 1.5 hour to get majority of our main courses. The fact that my wife and I had to leave early, we only had 15-20 mins to enjoy our entrée (this was avoidable). Four of our party never got their soups. My sister in-law never got her entrée and all she had was a salad. One of the party member found a green plastic object in his steak, they took the dish back and never brought it back out. Another couple in our party, had order rare Filet but ended up being served well done. They took it back and said they'll bring out a new one in 20 mins and it never arrived. His wife's chicken dish had an odd taste she didn't enjoy and it was something the server had recommended upon requesting recommendations. I don't know if the server drop the ball or if it was the kitchen... In the end the server was very apologetic and served complimentary desserts, but no one could really enjoy it as they were looking over the "corrections" made on the check. Soups and three entrée were discounted (since it never came out or wasn't corrected), all sodas were discounted from the tab. Two shrimps was still being billed as Eight. Due to the fact that they were discounting items off the existing bill and not writing up a brand new one, we were paying taxes on food items we never got and tipping more than what was deserved. read more

Caffe Aldo has been around for years...and years...and has always been one of the "better" places for awesome Italian (and Northern Italian) food. The decor and ambiance is a definite 5-star and the service is always top-notch. This is a place that you can actually get "dressed up" if you want and you don't stand out (unlike many other restaurants these days). They have a great little bar area that is set apart from the dining area so you feel like you're in a little lounge of your own. They also have banquet rooms for weddings, functions, events, etc. I actually had my wedding reception here years and years ago.....and a baby shower was given to me at this same place. I still have the baby but not the husband. One out of two isn't bad....so it wasn't totally bad luck! read more

Have always loved the food and atmosphere as regulars but tonight may have been our last visit. We had hoped to use an Amex gift card we received to offset cost of dinner but got into a disagreement with the manager that the gift card was declined. When we questioned him about it he expressed he would only get $80 for the $100 gift card so it wouldn't process. Clearly was not in his best interest to honor the gift card from an established financial institution so we likely won't be back. Shame. My family hosted an event here over the weekend in the private wine cellar downstairs. I'll preface this review by saying that not everyone (my parents, who were paying the check) was happy with how things went. My parents felt that our service was too slow and they were annoyed that there was only one server working our entire party of twenty-something people. We did have a table full of kids with us so I can see how they might have had a different perspective. But from my table with my brother, sister and our significant others, things were great. We don't all get together as often as we'd like so there's always a lot to talk about and time flies. Which is probably why we never noticed or were bothered by the length of time our dinner took (more than three hours). I felt that drinks were refreshed in a timely manner and our server never seemed to forget anything. There was a little bit of a wait between salad and the main course, and the time it took to cut and serve the cake at the end of the meal was definitely way too long. That said, the drinks were solid. Nice wine pours and a great selection of beers. When we sat down, trays of Italian meats and cheeses were available for snacking. The bread course, with awesome tomato bread, made everyone happy. Salads were a little salty, but main courses were really great. I had chicken parmesan but my boyfriend's red snapper was awesome. Aside from the cake we brought, we were also served trays of miniature desserts, which were better than expected. I'm surprised I never had dinner at Lamberti when I still lived in Jersey. The place is huge and was totally packed. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again with friends, but I'd definitely make a reservation pretty far in advance. read more

A disappointing follow up despite the countless yearnings to sip and dine with fellow 'elitists'. For those not in the know, the restaurant enjoys showcasing jaguars, corvettes and lamborghini in the front to display their likings of high society tangibles.. then again, perhaps the owners of the vehicles don't want their cars parked next to grundgy , pollen covered tanks on wheels.. aka my car. (Scroll to bottom for conclusion as middle is mostly rant) Nonetheless, we arrived around 5pm (note that happy hour begins at 4pm and runs until 7pm.) Few people occupied the bar seating area with the exception of a gaggle of grey haired business people sipping on cocktails and an older woman who had clearly been slinging back martinis like it was the end of the world. The Mrs. and I sat down and calmly waited for a server...after about 10 min, I took matters into my own hand and strolled up to the bar and got a few drinks myself. Shortly after returning, a slightly confused server hesistantly approached and offered us a menu and wanted to see if we needed a drink (mind you besides the ten people at the bar, there were roughly six other people in the bar area). We received our drink and proceeded to order food. A bit confused with the happy hour selections (more to come) we picked a few items covered under the happy hour (HH from here on) selections and a few not. A busser/food runner brought a small basket of delicious tomato bread and some lightly brined, surprisingly sweet olives. Our first items, tomato bruschetta and a mixed charcuterie plate arrived, both garnished with chunks of parmesan cheese and the same olives brought with the tomato bread... interesting.. but whatever. We reread the cocktail menu and ordered a vodka drink and a gin drink. Both were unfortunately not to our likings.. I think I compared one to a summer room air freshener and the other to a bathroom sanitizer, purely in flavor btw... Around 630, the hostess informed us that our table had been reserved for 730 and I said not a problem as we were only waiting on some more items. About 45..yes..FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER, (715) our sausage and white bean bruschetta and short rib arrived (these items had been ordered the same time as the first back around 545. Our bewildered and somewhat slow waiter doddled around the room and finally made it to our table to see if we needed a drink... it was past 7pm and thus my cherry mood, and buzz had long gone. I'm sure he is a nice person out of work, but I've seen sundials move faster than this guy, especially when liquor sales are the bread and butter AND a good portion of your tips... just saying.. Food: tomato bruschetta-disappointing hors d'oeuvre sized portions on dry bread Charcuterie-somewhat acceptable, but needed something pickle related to cut through the saltiness of everything else... I mean.. garnishing with parm and olives is a bit of a salt overload Sausage bruschetta- not bad although I doubt it needed over and hour to prepare Short ribs - average and forgettable, needed a bit more sauce to make it pop Our check finally arrived via carrier pigeon and I noticed that none of the drinks had been discounted. On the bottom of the drink menu was clearly written,join us for happy hour, while on the food menu listed at the top said vodka cocktails, gin cocktails and certain wines would be half off. Well, silly plebians that we were, when we ordered a gin COCKTAIL, off of the COCKTAIL menu, we thought it would have been included. NOPE.. the HH promo only pertains to items such as a vodka martini, gin and tonic, etc..I know.. ridiculous and terribly unclear. The first trip for dinner was exceptional and I'll always remember the calamari and rock shrimp salad, but happy hour was a bust. When you go, make sure you ask for exact items covered under HH prices and sit at the bar as it seems the bartenders had their s**t together and would probably pay more attention than the average server... read more

OK, I've read a few of the reviews for Aldo and I have to defend a few negative points made by others. First of all, if YOU'RE LATE, don't blame the restaurant for making you wait for your table! The number of "empty tables" in a restaurant has nothing to do with being able to seat you, it's having staff to man those tables. What good would it do to seat you in a section that appears to be open if the restaurant doesn't have the adequate staff to wait on you? That would simply add to your frustration of "having to wait" for your service. "Calling ahead" to tell a restaurant that you're going to be late doesn't stop the momentum of every other reservation after you from showing up on time. You've selected a slot of time; keep up with your end of the bargain but don't expect everyone else to then say, "Oh, it's okay, we'll work around YOUR schedule!" Here's a clue; if you make a reservation (or any appointment for that matter) don't be late! Next, "SAUCE FOR YOUR ZUCCHINI STICKS???" Are you serious? This isn't Burger King where you get some dip for your onion rings, sweetie! I went to A.L. for my first time last night after passing by many times for the past year that I've lived in the area. To celebrate the first anniversary of being in our new home, my partner and I chose A. L. as the place to enjoy a great meal and a lovely atmosphere. We were not disappointed! Our server was very good. I kept telling my partner that I knew him but could not place why or how I knew him. We went through a list of celebrities that he resembled but still, nothing. Finally, it went off like a light bulb! He looked exactly like one of our Wii characters! So, we named him Lou Wii G! Lou Wii G continually checked on us but not in an over powering way. He explained the specials to us clearly and offered a wine selection for our meal. We opted for the vintage 2010 Diet Coke. For starters, we ordered the antipasti and shrimp cocktail. The antipasti was incredible with servings of meats, cheeses, roasted red peppers, olives and toast points/bruschetta. The cocktail was four jumbo shrimp. Not an appetizer that I normally prefer but it had been years since I've ordered it in a restaurant and I have no regrets that I did, it was wonderfully fresh! We moved on to the mushroom bisque and both enjoyed the velvety smooth consistency and flavor with a hint of fresh basil. For dinner, I had veal Marsala and John had the veal parm. Both were incredible! My Marsala melted in my mouth like butter and the Marsala sauce (not for dipping zucchini) was remarkable! John's parm was HUGE and tasty, fitting for the price. The bill totaled only $80.25. I fully expected it to be much higher ($150 or more) so with that in my favor, I have to say that I'm even a little bit more impressed! The manager came past our table twice throughout the meal to check on us, which I really enjoyed. The support staff was also on top of their game. And, a bonus that's hard to find in many restaurants, it was impeccably CLEAN! I'm a sucker for any food establishment that has clean carpet! If I was just writing this review based on service alone it would be a 5 star review. Then add the food onto the experience and it is a 5+ star review. I was in town for the weekend to visit my Uncle and he had made reservations at Caffe Aldo Lamberti. I don't normally eat Italian food out very often. I feel that it is a cuisine that I can execute well enough that I don't need to go out for it. I can tell you with all certainty that I could not execute the deliciousness of my meal. I started out with the East Coast oysters and they were delicious! The oysters were large, fresh, perfectly tasting of the sea. They had been shucked to perfection without a hint of grit. This is a true skill in shucking. My main was one of the specials of the night. It was Florida grouper with muscles and clams in a tomato broth over pasta and it was nothing short of magical. Being a Florida girl, I love grouper and this was a perfect taste of home with a New Jersey twist. For dessert I had the crème brulee and it was perfectly prepared. The sugar was golden with the right amount of crack when the spoon met the surface. The custard was a smooth vanilla dream. The service at Caffe Aldo Lamberti is truly one of its best features. I was so very impressed with everyone we came in contact with. From the hostess stand to the wait staff to the bussers. Based purely on reputation, I penciled in the Caffe to be my go-to place in NJ. Lamberti's has an extensive wine list, an impressive decor, a decent menu, and it is a short drive from my house. That's quite a few items checked off from my "Help Me Cope with Moving Out of the City" list. In my sole trip here, I that the restaurant could not live up to its potential. We enjoyed our entrees but the appetizers were mediocre -- this is more of a 3.5 star rating, to be honest -- and found the service to be subpar for an establishment of this ilk. Our waiter couldn't pronounce many of the items on the menu, confessing that he wasn't Italian. We asked him for recommendations from the wine list but it did not appear that he knew much about the wines. When we ordered the cheese plate, he dropped it off without explaining what we had received. When he asked him about the cheeses, he admitted that he had no idea what he served to us. To top it all off, at the end of the night, he delivered off the wrong check. Honestly, he wasn't a terrible server. He was quite amicable and polite, and he took the initiative to correct the mistake with the check. I'd like to believe he was simply new to his position. At some point soon, we will have to go back for another meal to prove this was just a fluke. read more
