Couldn't have planned a more perfect day to spend outdoors on Mother's Day with the family, and LaScala's Birra made it even better. We were seated next to the window with great views of the lake and cute baby geese wandering around outside. Michelle was our waitress, but collectively the whole staff was fantastic, helping clear the table and refilling our cups without us having to ask. The buffalo chicken pizza had crispy edges, and the celery gave it a satisfying crunch with every bite. The shredded chicken on top was spread thick and evenly across the pie with a nice heat kick to it that didn't overwhelm the other flavors. The zucchini fries came with a delicious dipping sauce, and the fries themselves were very delicate and perfectly cooked. The lobster ravioli with rich vodka sauce ended up being a great dip for the crispy crust from the pizza, though I do wish there were more ravioli pieces in the dish or that it was plated a bit more generously. The eggplant bake was also really good with a great tasting sauce all throughout the dish. It had lots of layers and was definitely a big, hearty portion. Stopped in for a bite with my son after he was done with a practice row on the river prior to the Knecht Cup regatta. Very glad we did! Made a rez for 7:30 and were seated immediately. This place is very clean and well-kept. Server Natalie was right on the ball! Our orders of chicken lasagna and brussel sprouts for him, the LaScalla salad and zucchini for me were all great! Terrific food, hot and fresh! Desserts of the brownie and ice cream for him, and the tiramisu for me were good...and the tiramisu was huge! A nice stop, good food, decently priced and I even got a 10% military discount. Great spot! read more

First time visiting here! Very nice welcoming inside. They have large outside patios for the nicer weather. Right on the water, so great views. Good selection of beers and cocktails. Menu has everything from appetizers, soups, salads, pizza, and dinners. The calamari was very good. The chopped salad was delicious. All of the pasta meals, and lasagna were very tasty. I was invited to join family for lunch on a lovely Sunday afternoon. When we arrived, there was also a very large private party in progress, so it was even noisier than normal. Very pretty inside, bright and sunny. I still don't get why in the world they have giant TV screens with sports playing on the screens. Kinda clashed with the vibe, but maybe that's just me. Service was OK. I remember last time we were here, we were handed a bowl of complimentary of delicious rolls - not this time. Sad face. I had the clam chowder as a starter. It was quite nice and yes, it did come with that amazing roll. My main was the rigatoni Bolognese. A tad salty, but a generous serving and brought home leftovers. read more

Lovely place, we requested to be sat outdoors, patio nicely shaded with trees and umbrellas, very comfortable. Beautiful view of the Cooper River. Service was great, very attentive and fulfilled all requests promptly (cup for can of beer, black pepper at table). We ordered zucchini strips which were tasty, they were accompanied by a spicy dipping sauce. Both of us had the Mediterranean Salad which was delicious. They were much smaller than salads we are used to at other La Scala restaurants. Frankly, for $18.00 we would have expected more generous portions of both shrimp and crabmeat, which weren't add ons but part of the dish. Each salad had but 4 shrimp and a scant 2 tablespoons of crabmeat. Hence the 4 star rating. We ordered a Bosc pear pizza to go, (for our dinner) and it smells delicious! We were in Philly for the weekend, and ended up across the border in New Jersey hoping to find some Italian food, and this is definitely the spot to go to. We ordered the meatballs, arancini, eggplant Parmesan, and the veal Parmesan. The portions were huge, but also the food comes out as it is ready, not all at once. I really liked this concept as we got the food at its freshest. The restaurant has a nice view of the water, and creates a nice casual atmosphere while enjoying your meal. Recently visited the location at Rowan and loved the burrata board appetizer. We ordered that again and it was again, a great appetizer to share. The menu is different at this location. No meatball panini so the margarita pizza was ordered. Was a little put off by the giant tomato wedges adorning the pizza but otherwise decent for a simple meal. The white clam chowder got raves. My seafood in vodka sauce was the bomb, especially because I was able to choose the type of pasta served with it. The pepperoni pizza was passable due to the dough not being crisp enough to support the toppings. The lasagna was also good once you scraped the excess sauce it swam in. And the rigatoni bolognese got a thumbs up. Very pretty location but can get very loud. It's a popular spot for parties so I am not sure why there are TVs showing sports and news at the otherwise pretty dining area. Make sure you make reservations for dinner and weekends. read more

If I could rate least than 1 star I would. Last nights dinner was less than good it was actually terrible. This location needs help. Salmon had a terrible aftertaste and smelled fishy. Not just one piece but 2. The switch to chicken was not the best either it came out cut up with breading falling off and very dry and had no flavor. This was the added protein to my beet salad that was smaller than any side as I have had anywhere and had mostly spinach not spring mix. Definitely wasn't the servers problem. I've been to other LaScala's locations with no issues. Do yourself a favor and don't go here. Truly a waste of money and time. My dining partners dinner was also not the greatest. They're both white pizzas and they tasted fine. we asked for a side of mariana sauce to dip in and it was good. It was a nice place to sit next to after a walk at copper park. I went here few months ago and have waited to post my review because I wanted to see how I felt about it after the moment. On all I won't return. A lot of things went wrong with the visit when we sat down, there were a ton of ants (about 100) on the window ledge by us. The table next to us saw them at the same time and pointed it out to the staff. I really feel like they should've relocated everyone but instead someone came over in an already tight space (in our personal space) and sprayed Windex on them and scoop them up. This was a bit tacky and lacked social norms/social skills. The yuck factor was a bit unsettling, especially because it was still early in the day and whoever was setting up, was either oblivious or likely saw them and didn't do anything about it. Service was really rough. He was slow to come by, gave us 2/6 incorrect orders, and didn't know the menu when we inquired about certain items. We didn't have a prompt check back after food was delivered and we didn't have the time to wait for them to correct the issue, especially since everything had already taken so long. Cute and clean restaurant right on the river! Have a pretty good happy hour which is what we came in for. I had the Birra Margarita and I believe it was blood orange - so delicious!! My coworker and I got the caprese and cheese pizza off of the happy hour menu. Pizza was just ok, but loved the pesto and balsamic glaze combo on the caprese! The pizza had about 6 pieces and the caprese had 4 portions which was plenty for two. My two favorite items were the Cheesesteak Eggrolls (came with 4) and the Brussel Sprouts. Both had great flavors and were filling. I loved the cheese sauce with the eggrolls - not gritty and stayed melted. Lastly we rounded it out with dessert which I wasn't impressed with. My coworker got the tiramisu and loved it. I got the Banana Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding and it just felt like I was eating a hunk of bread with no flavor. Couldn't taste the banana and the chocolate chips were not noticeable. I was bummed because it sounded so good. Service was a bit slow but he was friendly and provided recommendations. Always have had a good meal here but the service we had tonight was by far the worst service we may have ever had in any restaurant. Our waitress took our order and asked if we wanted everything all at once. We told her to put the apps in first but then also gave her our dinner order so she could put it in after apps came. Well, dinner came out first and then apps started coming. She never once came to check on us so we just ate as things came. Tables around us all had different waitresses that checked on them multiple times. We had our entire meal not once being asked if anything was okay or having our drinks refilled. Between finishing our meal and our waitress coming was a half hour. Asked for boxes at that time and waited another ten minutes. Waitress asked if we wanted dessert, she gave us the menu for dessert and again never came back for another ten minutes. Multiple tables came and went around us. I've had some bad service places but this took the cake. It's a shame because again, everyone around us had great service. Honestly we could have left ten times over without paying and she would have never noticed. We will have to to the other locations. read more

It is extremely rare that I give a rating like this. We ordered 3 pizzas and 2 desserts. I was very surprised that the margarita was extremely bland. I don't think I've ever wanted to add salt to a pizza, but I did in this case, plus the mozzarella did not taste fresh. The Buffalo Chicken and Pear and Gruyere pizzas were fairly good. My husband got the tiramisu and said it was good and a very large portion. My kids and I split the Zeppoli and these were, to use a very strong word, awful. Three of us tried it, and all came to the same conclusion. The dough was undercooked and heavy, the filling was kind of confusing to us. It definitely tasted a bit like cannoli but somehow had almost no taste, and the sauce that it came with was sour and unpleasant. It was just a really poor showing for $70 worth of food. read more

I patronized LaScala's Birra a few weeks ago and had a wonderful dining experience! I would recommend friends, family, and strangers to enjoy a meal here (but don't all sit together). The atmosphere, when I dined, was quiet and relaxing. Check online for specials and happy hour - when I went, there were some patrons sitting at the bar and some seated at the non-bar dining area. No matter where you sit, you can enjoy a nice view of the river. My server (sorry, the name escapes me) was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. He took the time to explain to me how the kitchen operates. Happiness is all about managing expectations! My appetizer was arancini. Wow, it was so creamy and delicious! My mouth is watering, even now, thinking about how tasty it was. The arancini was plated beautifully. My entree was chicken francaise over linguini. Honestly, I have had better chicken francaise... I feel it was a tad undercooked and needed more fresh lemon in the sauce. Please understand this was not a deal-breaker for me: I will visit the restaurant again as this was my first time there. The menu has so much variety I am looking forward to trying something else. There are many pizza, seafood, and salad options. Of note: I ordered a to-go eggplant parmigiano for a friend - she was very pleased with this meal. The portion was ample and she said it was delicious. Great manager and accommodating staff! Every time we come to the restaurant everyone is accommodating and kind.

Great service, lovely atmosphere and generally good food. We prefer the other lascala locations, specifically the FIRE locations- for some reason the food is just a few notches better. The acoustics in this location are a bit tough if they have a large party- they use the entire length of the side for a party so maybe it just disperses sound in an odd way. We've tried nearly every type of food on the menu. This weekend we had the soup of the day- really good spicy sausage with vegetable. Heavy on the sausage, would have been nice to have a bean or pasta to offset. Arancini was great- not sure why the peas are on the side, but hey creative freedom :) The wing sauce is one of our favorite concoctions and pizza has improved from the initial kick-off a few years ago. The salads just never impress us- especially for the price point. Fire locations have them beat by a mile for the same exact salad. I got the chopped salad and it just tasted old and spoiled- I realized it really always is the case and I need to stop getting one at this location. All and all- except for the salad we were happy, but we try make the extra journey to fire if we can. read more

Ambiance: this is a very nice spot with great decor. It doesn't have that sad vibe, but more of an upbeat type vibe. it bright, and the furniture it up to date. It is also kid friendly, so you can get a high chair for your little one. Food: anything that you choose on the menu is good. This is one of those places where you can get everything on the menu and be happy. I am a fan of a good meatball, and they had an appetizer that was amazing. There cheesesteak egg rolls were also good. So you will not be disappointed on the food. We arrived at our reservation time of 7:30 pm on a Friday. The restaurant being busy was very noisy. Many people were seated outside since it was such a beautiful evening in April. The restaurant is is located with a park and along side a river. The ambiance was nice with low and high marble tables. It took a good while for our server to acknowledge us and bring glasses for the chilled water and offer drinks. I chose to have a cosmopolitan,. When it arrived I sipped and then realized their was a tiny bug in it. No problem it was replaced after a short wait. Came to realize our server was also bartending, which could explain the delays. We ordered two appys, the Salumi and cheese board and the ricotta boards. The Salumi board offered up four meats including, salami, prosciutto, speck and Sopressata(?) . The cheese were fresh mozzarella, sharp provolone, fontina and Parmesan. These were accompanied by Kalamata olives, roasted red peppers and a smear of fig preserves. Delish! This was soon joined by the ricotta board with their 48 fermented dough bread. This drizzled and mixed with clover honey. Again delish and that bread was outstanding. For an entree I had the Prosciutto pizza with arugula and shaved Parmesan cheese. There was not very much flavor to this pie. Was disappointed. As were dining guests with a tasteless margarita pie and the four cheese pie. There was an ok on the short rib ravioli and I personally tasted the gravy on that and it was really yummy, portion could have had a couple more on the plate. For dessert we tried the banana bread pudding with caramel sauce and ice cream. Again this should have been so much better! It was dry and not flavorful at all. The service unfortunately was not to par, we could understand when they were busy but when it died down there was no excuse. If you want good appys and drinks then try it. If looking for dinner go elsewhere. read more

I really dislike writing poor reviews, but the experience that my friend and I had last night was meh at best. We came for a drink and a bite before walking the beautiful park path. We both ordered premium wines ($13 glasses, not the happy hour wines) and the glasses served were dirty and smudged with fingerprints. The wine itself tasted spoiled but the bartender never once checked on us to see how things were, so we couldn't rectify it. There were also a handful of flies that camped out right at the bar, and we constantly had to swat at them. Worse, the fried zucchini that we ordered came with bits of calamari rings, remnants of another order. Luckily neither of us had seafood allergies, but this is a huge red flag. The zucchini itself was greasy and limp. We still tipped 20%, but over $40 for a glass of wine each and a shared app that was an unpleasant experience leaves me reluctant to ever return. read more

I booked a reservation here for this past week via OpenTable, but we were only one of four tables throughout our visit. All were properly spaced out. I moved away from the area before this LaScala's opened a few years ago, so I was excited to see that they had expanded their footprint into New Jersey. When I lived in Philly, I liked ordering delivery from LaScala's Pronto. I also recall a great flight at Birra in 2015 during beer week. They're presently only offering electronic menus due to Covid, which is nice. We were seated right away and our friendly server was extremely patient while my mom tried to decide on a drink to order. I eventually asked if they could make her a French 75 off the menu, and the bartender agreed. For my drink, I ordered the Blue Point Toasted Lager, which was only okay. For a restaurant with the word beer in it, I expected a better list. They should consider fluffing out the local selection, adding styles like sours, and perhaps even adding an Italian beer beyond peroni. I felt like their website was a little misleading on what to expect drink-wise. But my critique ends there. The food more than made up for the lacking beer list. Oh my goodness! My mom ordered the arancini app and I selected the ricotta board. I was torn between that and the fontina, but our server said the ricotta is their most popular app. I tried a bite of my mom's rice ball and it was great. But the ricotta with perfectly prepared bread?? Heaven. Pure bliss. I ate so much of it that I had to box up most of my pizza! For my meal, I chose the alla carbonara pizza. Since I was super torn and wanted everything, I also ordered a four cheese pizza to go. My mom had the truffle pizza. Verdict? All delicious but the four cheese stole the show. My mom even liked it better than her pizza, and she's the person who has always claimed to "not like cheese." I also didn't want to pass up trying their dessert, so I ordered a slice of limoncello cake to go. Ate it later on and it too was delectable. I was really excited to try LaScala after hearing about them and seeing all the amazing pictures on Instagram! The inside is absolutely gorgeous with light colors and black and white vintage photographs. The dining room overlooks the water and there is a nice outdoor space. The menu is not huge which is nice. They have a great selection of different pizzas, appetizers, and pasta dishes. The ricotta appetizer with honey was interesting and tasty! Extra bread was definitely needed for the portion size. The muscles were very delicious and served with herbed bread. The mac & cheese pizza was a little bit dry and under seasoned. I asked for salt and pepper but would've loved pepper flakes or even some old Bay. The burrata pizza was great! The beer garden area was really cute with the lights and it's nice having view of the water. It didn't feel like Pennsauken? Party of four last night for dinner, appetizers, a couple of beers our check was $200. and not worth it at all! Server was so-so. We had a women buster for table constantly stopped at table and asked to take away plates while we were still eating. Our plates weren't even empty and two minutes later was back. It was annoying to say the least. All of our food was cold and tasteless. It seems they forget to add any seasonings to our dishes. I has Veal Francaise which was cold , I couldn't cut it with my knife, it was hard and chewy tasted like it was microwaved. I could even eat my meal.At our table we also had clams and spaghetti, cold and no seasonings, Chicken in vodka sauce with chicken, shrimp, cold and no taste to it. No one finished their dinners, and we didn't take left overs. Server never asked how was dinner. I will never go back. I should of asked for a refund! no manager at location. read more

Oh how great is LaScala's Birra! Gorgeous, clean riverfront dining! That's something you can't even get in Philly! If delicious Italian food with a view isn't intriguing enough, they also are on delivery apps so you don't even need to leave your house. I'm pro-LaScala so having a scenic one that delivers floats my boat. Note, there is no on-boat dining, but you may see a small boat. I hope to spend many outdoor, scenic meals at LaScala's Birra next spring and onwards. read more
