Although they have their hours posted as open until 8:00pm on Saturdays, when we got there at 7:20pm we were told the grill was closed (which eliminated half of what we were going to get). And then, after deciding on a different order, we were told that we had to take it to go because they were closing in 10 minutes. I would have been okay with this if they had apologized and given some sort of explanation, but instead we were treated like it was our fault and we were putting them out. It also seems like portions are smaller than the early days of Yumm in Bend - I remember being full after a bowl back then; now a large bowl doesn't come close to filling me up... Ok, I live in Bend but had never been in before so I wanted to give it a try. Sorry I did. I ordered an asian salad that seemed to me as though the ingredients were all placed on the plate from pre made packages. You know, how the chicken is chopped into nice little exact fast food type squares rather than pulled from the bird? The dressing was terrible so I didn't eat any of my meal, but my wife ate the salad she ordered. She did say it was probably her first and last visit too. The empty tables were pretty dirty and the staff seemed either bored or tired (although we did go there following the lunch rush so I guess the mess was somewhat understandable). I would say that if you like food courts in malls this may work for you, but honestly with such great places to eat in Bend only minutes away from here I will probably never go back. read more

I would describe her demeanor as a cross between irritated and bored as we asked questions. Ok, she's having a bad day. It happens. Then cam the FOOD. I'll be happy if I don't get food poisoning. Food was lukewarm, chicken looked microwaved, tofu was old. About four bites in, I found HAIR in my bowl. That was enough for us. Great vegan food! I've had the Original bowl in a previous trip, and tried the Chilean Zucchini this time. Both were unbelievably tasty. Very nice beverage choices, including beer and wine. The food is always very good and healthy. But what makes this place different is the delightful location. A stones throw from the river in a fairly slow-paced area. While I do like the fast prep of my order, I took away a star for lack of cleanliness. The tables need more busing than they do and must be wiped between customers. I've been here half a dozen times and this is a fail. The bathroom needs some upkeep at times. I do question the tip jar on the counter when you are expected to bus your own dishes. But I tip regardless. Sometimes it's a hit or miss on the friendliness of the staff but I love the food. And today, the girl who helped me, was kind. I really like Cafe Yumm. I have been to a few other locations around Oregon, and they are franchised I believe. I went to the one in Beaverton quite frequently, and their prices are much less expensive than the one in Bend. I was able to get a tofu skewer in Beaverton for $3.00 - in Bend it's $4.50! I was disappointed in the higher prices; however, food is great! I'll be back, just with a little more cash next time. read more

I'm on the fence about Cafe Yumm in general. The food and experience can vary widely depending on the location. Don't get me wrong, it's still a go-to for my family for a simple, quick, and generally healthy meal. But in this genre of healthy bowl type of restaurant, Laughing Planet has them beat (and it PAINS me to write that.) A few things are: - Prices are getting steep for a bowl of rice and beans and basic toppings ($9+). And if you want a bottle of Yumm sauce to go? $18. Yes $18. For a bottle of condiment sauce that mostly tastes like lemony hummus. - Kids menu? Nope. One menu. Don't ask. - Limited options for toppings. I'd love it if they tried to offer more options even just seasonal options. - Limited menu in general. I get it. Keep it simple. But it's not interesting enough to keep most people coming back. - Cashier system is a big mystery to employees. Prices for substitutions, add-ons, etc. are rung up differently at each franchise and really add up fast. And you don't ever see an itemized receipt so who knows how you were charged for what you ordered. Just pay and sit down. Don't even get me started on trying to order a simple side of rice and beans. Super confusing to any cashier. I just want one side: rice and beans together in one side dish, you know, for my kids because you don't have a kids menu. But what gets put into the cashier system is any number of combinations of: rice with beans sprinkled on top, or beans with rice sprinkled on top, or two separate side dishes one for rice and one for beans (at $3.75 each). One cashier even rang up a full price bowl but then just entered a note to remove all toppings. LOL ok that's one way to do it. It's comical to watch me stand there and need to explain in detail how I want ONE side dish with 50% rice and 50% beans, like the way people eat rice and beans everywhere in the world. How is that so hard to understand for a rice and beans kind of place? Anyway, I used to be a huge fan and I still enjoy it when I want just a basic predictable meal without thinking too much about it. But I sort of expected them to evolve more since they've been in business for a while now. read more

Food was just OK, nothing special and overpriced for what you get - brown rice, Tillamook cheese, beans, and some other toppings. However they have some options that will satisfy a picky eater who wouldn't normally go to this type of restaurant. Its located in the Old Mill Shops and there is limited parking nearby, especially if you have a large vehicle. We had at least three visits where our takeout orders were incorrect. Then we started checking things before leaving. I got tired of correcting the mistakes so we stopped frequenting. There are so many tasty vegetarian and vegan options here. It's casual, healthy and delicious. Favorites are the bento tofu meal with Asian slaw and rice, the soups, the original bowl. My family enjoys eating here regularly and loves the location near the river and at the old mill. I appreciate that their tofu is organic and hey also label what's vegetarian and vegan. I've passed this place for quite awhile before stopping in one afternoon. I decided to give it a try not knowing much about it. I have to say it brought delight to my taste buds! I've never been one to try a new place. So when I went there I was expecting some "new age" stuff I wouldn't know what to do with. I ordered a Yumm bowl and was hooked! I now make this my "go-to" lunch spot. The staff was friendly, helpful and while they were busy and I had to wait a bit for my food, it was worth it. As a vegan for many years, Cafe Yumm has been the go-to place for my wife and I when we're in Bend and in need of some nourishing food. There are lots of options for vegans, but also options if you're not. The yumm bowls are unparalleled for value, and the food is always fresh as possible. Considering they're from Eugene, you're also sorta supporting a local business, or at least somewhat close. You also won't find a better tasting sauce out there than their yumm sauce. For the big bottle, it's about 15 bucks, but it'll last you for quite a while. I promise I don't work for them either. read more

Let me start off by saying that yum bowls are my single favorite meal... I even buy the larger bottles of yum sauce and make yum bowls at home once or twice a week! I'm sitting here in the cafe yum restaurant in bend Oregon right now, with my large original yum bowl in front of me (I just received it) and I'm so upset at my experience here that I'm writing this review before I finish my bowl. It took 45 minutes to receive our order of three large original yum bowls for dine-in. There is also is a very large group of people waiting for their food and looking similarly confused and perturbed, but the restaurant itself is not busy. I have worked in restaurants in the past and I realize that it is not the workers fault if they are understaffed (which, I'm hoping, is the primary issue). The workers were pleasant enough, but did not apologize for the extreme wait -for food that only needs to be assembled. It wasn't even a lunch or dinner rush!!!Did the kitchen under estimate the amount of food to prepare? I'm not sure, but this is hands down the slowest cafe yum restaurant that I have ever visited - and I go to cafe yum quite regularly. Also, I ordered extra sauce for each bowl (and paid a dollar extra per bowl - to be expected, if I received said product)... The yum bowls were pretty dry. No extra sauce, even though I confirmed this once when I paid the cashier and again when we received our long awaited food. I'd say the amount of sauce was on the low side of average. I'm very disappointed, as up until now I have had nothing but good experiences at cafe yum. This was our first time at this Bend location near the Mill District. Never again! read more
