You can't really go wrong with an Original Yumm Bowl, but for those who want more, there are options to jazz it up. Honestly, I wasn't the biggest fan of Café Yumm the first time I tried it. I thought it was weird, but after the second attempt (much to the urging of my friends who love it) I was hooked. Now it's a must any time I am visiting Oregon. Some of my friends even make me bring them bottles of the Yumm sauce back after visiting. I like the Yumm sauce too, but not enough to purchase it. The ingredients are always fresh and I love that avocado is standard in the Yumm bowls. This is definitely the place for vegans and vegetarians, because there are so many options. read more

I really don't know what rating to give them!! The concept is so cool- I love the healthy options and fresh ingredients! But how hard is it to make a rice bowl?? I ordered a small edamame bowl with half rice and half "yumm sauce" (which is one of the most addicting substances on earth apparently.) I brought it back to my hotel and realized they had left out the salsa and the nori! 2 of the 9 ingredients! seriously? It made me sad because I am dieting and really wanted a wonderful yumm bowl. It still tasted good, but was missing some flavor it should have had. Hopefully next time will go better- I will be back. read more

Cafe Yumm is probably one of the most healthy fast food places you will ever come across. Of course it's in Eugene. Right? It tastes good, it's fast, it won't put on a bunch of pounds, and it's great for on the go quick food. Some things I wish they had: Drive thru. That's about it. If there is a blueprint for a conscious fast food chain, these guys have it. I've had a few things on their menu and favor the Hot and Jazzy. I love that hot salsa and Yumm! Sauce with all those toppings over fragrant rice. The Yumm! menu seems to capture what many people enjoy from simple yet delicious fast food, like sweet and savory flavors, beans and rice, and a good sauce. There is something for everyone here. I've enjoyed the selection of hearty and flavorful soups, and a variety of the bowls (which don't differ greatly). They even have beer and higher quality sodas and organic juices. I would probably give them 5 stars if more of their ingredients were organic, but I understand how it is trying to keep prices at a decent level for the consumer. And for what you get, I think they are very reasonable. The only bad experience I had was the baked tempeh on a stick. The glaze was way too salty, borderline unpalatable. I usually go to the Willamette Yumm location, but I have just recently moved and started going to this location. Different crowd, but that can be expected due to it's proximity to campus. I would like there to be an outdoor seating section though. I usually get a small hot n' jazzy which fills me up. Sometimes I get the salmon burger or garlic veggie burger. Both are good, but not incredible. Though they are good alternatives if I'm not in the mood for a yumm bowl. You can get greens on the side instead of corn chips for the burgers, though for a dollar extra. Get the black sesame dressing. I really like it, even though I'm not really a sesame seed fan. The bowls can easily be made at home, but there are times when it's nice to have someone else cook, serve, and wash your dishes for you. read more

LOVE Cafe Yumm. It's basically a Eugene staple and for good reason. Whether you're in the mood for a bowl, wrap, sandwich or skewers, Cafe Yumm has it all. The ingredients are always fresh, delicious and feel healthy. The pricing is decent and there are so many size options so you really get to decide whether you need a snack or a huge post-workout meal. The Yumm sauce is definitely an acquired taste - I'm sure some people don't like it. But I think it's Yummy. The staff there has always been friendly and takes the time to ask how your day is going and if there's anything else they can get you. I do wish when you place an order that they'd go through ALL the toppings on a bowl so if you don't like one, you know it's there prior to eating it. For example, I just don't like tomatoes. But I'm never sure when there will be tomatoes on something or not (it's a deluxe topping - I think? I don't even know what those are...). I work in the hospital setting as a nurse and have 30 minutes for lunch. Yesterday I called in my order to the inhouse Cafe' Yumm,. they actually answered the phone which is rare these days. I finished my 5 minute charting and went down to pick up my order. There were 10 people standing in line waiting for their food. I paid and went to join them. People were ordering behind me in a steady stream and there were not enough employees to keep up in the rush hour lunch time. Watching the process it was pretty confusing as to what orders came up first and the two poor employees had to look multiple times to determine which items were in the same order, and it seemed there was no clear process for prioritizing orders, after 25 minutes of patiently waiting and seeing now people who were in line after me were getting their orders and leaving. I inquired as to mine? The employee found it on the far right of the pickup line and handed it to me, completely cold and now my lunch time was over. My usual is a medium Hot and Jazzy with cauli rice. Not anything special, and it is now $12.00. For these prices you think the company could afford to hire an extra worker to facilitate the orders coming off the line during the lunch rush. They need more help. Cafe yumm is tasty. We enjoyed our perspective meals today. Both were good. I love that they use local n organic food stuff. I've never been dissatisfied with a meal there. That being said, I don't go out of my way to eat there either. The food, while tasty isn't anything I couldn't make at home. When I go out to eat I like entrees that are interesting and unusual. Their yumm bowls are mostly rice and beans with sauce and a smattering of veggies. All in all it's kinda boring. Why the 4 star review you ask? It's because of their business practices. I am a huge fan of Cafe Yumm. It's exciting that there is a chain, fast-ish, healthy restaurant serving vegetarian options! In Eugene, finding tempeh or tofu is not a difficult task, but I used to frequent the Beaverton Cafe Yumm location because veggie food was hard to find in my home town. Today I had the tempeh bento - my favorite. Huuuge piece of tempeh with to-die-for teriyaki sauce, brown rice, and ginger asian cabbage slaw. Yumm! 4 star review for what it is. NOT "top-quality" food, but tasty, healthy, vegetarian options are why I gave a 4-star review. It's pretty quick, and come on, they have chocolate dipped cookies...I recommend. read more

We had the bento plate with chicken, coleslaw & brown rice. We were given a choice of sauces but didn't use them because the chicken came with a sauce on it. This place was a pleasant surprise. It has a casual feel, similar to Panera, where you serve your own water and bus your table when done. I ordered the Original Yumm bowl, which was very reasonably priced and very tasty! I thought the Yumm sauce was a perfect addition to it; I even thought about buying some in the bottles at the front! My daughters both had a cheese quesadilla (hard to get wrong), and we also ordered one of their chocolate dipped cookies. After eating it, I understand why they keep them refrigerated! The chocolate on the outside melts quickly on your fingers and makes your hands (and face!) messy almost instantly, but that's the only downside. The cookie itself was chewy, delicious, and huge. Loads of friends rave over this place. So I caved and gave it a shot. Now I am a self described food separatist and carnivore. So going in, I had my apprehensions of combining my rice with salsa, cheese, sauce etc etc etc. OMG the list of ingredients was immense! It was edible, but I was really not a fan of the over combining of flavors. I tend to like simple flavors. I really enjoyed the sauce on the rice however. The sauce resembles a liquefied hummus. How I love me some garbanzos! So upon subsequent visits I played with different combinations and found I really only liked the sauce with rice & cheese. I am a huge fan of chicken and rice, so I am really disappointed that they don't have a combo integrating these few ingredients with their delicious Yumm sauce. I attempted to create a rice bowl from their menu by ordering the chicken skewer (which was overly saturated with salty teriyaki sauce) a side of jasmine rice and their signature Yumm sauce on the side. While I got what I wanted, it cost me 9 effin dollars. The price for their chicken is ridiculous and seems purposeful as if they have it on the menu but don't really want you to order it. The staff here seemed very friendly and on learning it was our first time kindly offered free samples to taste. The food wasn't spectacular, but was good and we like their concept. My husband ordered and was satisfied with the Original Yumm bowl with Southwest Chicken. I ordered the Yumm Baby bowl with chicken and without tomatoes as I cannot have beans or nightshades. It looked rather bland, but ended up being very tasty. I'm not a huge fan of the trademark Yumm sauce, but as it was used sparingly in my bowl it added a good amount of flavor and grew on me some. It did seem that they were a bit stingy with the sour cream, there was the teeniest dab of it on our bowls. Being gluten free, I appreciate how Cafe Yumm's menu items are clearly marked and the amount of options they had. However, in a restaurant that obviously is catering to the gluten free community it is disappointing that they have no GF dessert option. The ginger cookies are wheat free, but not GF. With today's ingredient options it would be easy to add a delicious GF cookie to the menu. Knocked off another star in my book. read more

This is a great allergen-friendly restaurant in Eugene, OR with delicious menu options that are vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and even free of nightshades like tomato, chili peppers, bell peppers, or tomatoes- all while being tasty! I went to this certain cafe yumm twice, both times they messed up my order, when I wanted a hot and jazzy they gave me a regular when I ordered with my mom she ordered a hot and jazzy and I ordered a regular and they gave us different sizes then we wanted and switched our orders so I got the hot and jazzy and she got the regular. and messed up my siblings orders as well. To My Annoying Roommate, I'd like to suggest you start eating healthier. I feel like i'm getting fat just by watching you eat all your fast food. My I make a suggestion??? CAFE YUMM....mmmm :) I'd say it's a hit or miss with lots of people, to where you love it and go all the time...or it's something I prefer not to eat again. But I LOVE it! It definitely has it's unique taste and some place i take my homehs that visit me to (especially the ones from Hawaii cause there's no place like that in the 808). The portions are deceiving, because it looks like a little, but guarantee you'll be full...and it's the good kind full, not the lazy "i shouldn't have ate that much" cause it's not greasy. Even if you're not vegetarian and like meat, they have some skewers that are pretty good. My favorite is the edemame! It taste different than the other ones that use the original/house sauce...but it's something that I'd suggest to people who've eaten there before, didn't like it, but your friends are forcing you to go again. The flavors are less strong, but some people may not like soybeans. I really like the Korean nori (seaweed) they top it off with. Went here about two weeks ago and when I went to pay the total was 30 cents higher than what it had been. I think for what you get it wasn't even worth 5.95 for a medium yet alone 6.25, which is the price now. The pricing is ridiculous and I will never be back. I have only been in here a handful of times, but I am in love. I first tried Cafe Yumm when my school's law journal ordered catering (the original Yumm Bowl) for one of our meetings. Just looking at the tray of rice, beans, sauce, and cheese, I had pretty low expectations, but after one bite I was amazed. For something so simple, it was incredibly flavorful! Since trying the catering, I have stopped in to the actual restaurant a few times and tried both the Jazzy and Hot 'n' Jazzy Bowls. The Hot 'n' Jazzy is now my go-to. Has just the right amount of heat! My only complaint is the price is a bit high for the low cost of the main ingredients (i.e. rice and beans). I would nonetheless recommend stopping in to try one of their fabulous Yumm Bowls! read more

I'm not native to Oregon. My roommate, who is, told me that we HAD to go here on our way back to Portland from a hot springs excursion near Eugene. Now, I have been a vegetarian since I was 7, and I'm 24 now. I feel that gives my evaluations of vegetarian food a long average to compete against fairly. I just really wasn't that impressed with Cafe Yumm. The staff was friendly, but the tables were dirty. The music was absolutely abysmal. The temperature was uncomfortably cold inside, in that way that made me recall my childhood- being forced to go to places like McDonalds for classmates' birthday parties, while wearing a dress that let the air from the freezers creep around my legs like a bunch of filthy ghosts. Is that a weird memory? Maybe so. But I bet a few of you out there know what I mean- that thick, stale, and dirty cold air, that feels like you have to scrub whatever came with it through the clogged ventilation system off of your body with steel wool. Ok? Anyway. I ordered a tempeh reuben. Not a feat to prepare a good one of these by any means. It was somehow bland and really scant on...everything...that it claimed to come with. The middle of the tempeh was cooler than the outside. My roommates ordered the so-famous bowls and they were tiny. My roomates were sad and commented that most of the vegetables tasted like they came from a can. I can't say I didn't warn them. As a fat person, I never trust anything that doesn't come with a side dish to pass for a meal and I am always right. These bowls wouldn't garner much applause from me had they been side dishes- they're still pretty small. And expensive. So yeah. If you want to eat unevenly cooked, bland tempeh or 1/7 of an avocado over ten grains of rice, whilst feeling dirty/cold, and listening to the worst forgotten never-hits of the late 90s, drop in to Cafe Yumm, sometime. You'll really thank yourself. To end on a positive note, the Yumm sauce is good, even though I had to ask for it as a side item. On a even more positive note, it's for sale at a ton of co-ops throughout Oregon, so you don't even have to come here to get it. Bonus! read more

It's basically a burrito bowl with a delicious (and appropriately named) Yumm Sauce. There's a wide variety of bowls... I went with the Hot and Jazzy, and it was delicious. An excellent meal for anyone, especially vegetarians. They also have sandwiches and such... Is defiantly a much-welcomed break to the monotony of the massive wave of multinational franchise restaurants consuming the dining landscape of America, although a growing chain in the northwest it is far from a burger or burrito with fries... who wants a burrito with fries anyhow? Café Yumm! Seems to serve up "rice bowls" if you can call it that... that are packed full of flavor with a unique style, and is most defiantly addictive, start with the Yumm Bowl (it's the gateway bowl) and move your way up from there.
