    Black Pepper Beef Combination plate
    Eduardo L.

Stopped by around 3:30 PM on a Monday, so it was pretty quiet. There was one female server handling the entire floor and I was the only person at the bar/counter, with just a couple other tables seated. Despite that, service was attentive and friendly. Ordered the Black Pepper Beef combination with fried rice (+$2.50). The combo comes with egg drop soup, one egg roll, one gyoza, and a small salad, which is a solid amount of food for the price. Food breakdown: *Black pepper beef: Good flavor but a bit on the salty side for my taste. 4/5 *Fried rice: Slightly bland, could use more seasoning. 3/5 *Egg roll: Definitely tastes prepackaged, but still crispy and surprisingly enjoyable. 4/5 *Egg drop soup: A little underwhelming, feels like it's missing something, though I'm no expert on how it should taste. 3/5 *Gyoza: Decent, nothing special. 3/5 *Salad: Very meh -- spring mix with what tastes like cheap ranch. 2/5 I also ordered a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned, which was actually a highlight. The bartender explained they normally use a house-made brown syrup, Angostura bitters, Peychaud's bitters, and an orange peel. I asked them to hold the Peychaud's, and the drink came out great. Nice big cube, well-balanced, and smooth. 5/5 A couple downsides: There were quite a few fruit flies behind the counter, which was noticeable and took away from the experience a bit. On the plus side, they've got a cool AMI jukebox, which adds to the vibe. Overall, solid spot for a casual meal and a well-made cocktail. Food is hit-or-miss, but service and drinks definitely help bring the experience up.

Hubby and I tried Cafe Wang for the first time tonight after local groups recommendations. They had an AYCE deal going on for $23.99 with unlimited rounds of five options at a time per table. It was a nice way to try a variety of their menu options especially since they served half orders for the AYCE. Half portions were perfect for us because we wanted to try a little of everything. Their orange chicken was good as was their sweet and sour pork. Hubby really liked their honey walnut shrimp. The bbq porch bun was pretty good and we loved their mixed veggies side, cucumber salad side, veggie springs rolls and the star of the show was their kung pao tofu. Room for improvement: menu cleanliness. They were very sticky. Also our table had some rice crumbs from prior guests.

Nestled at the corner of 3rd Street and D Street in charming Old Town La Verne, Cafe Wang is a standout destination for Chinese fusion cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warm hospitality. The atmosphere is inviting, blending modern touches with a cozy vibe perfect for casual dining or a special night out. What truly sets Cafe Wang apart is the freshness and flavor of its dishes. Every plate feels thoughtfully prepared, with vibrant ingredients and bold, balanced flavors that showcase the best of traditional Chinese recipes fused with creative twists. Whether you're indulging in their signature entrees or sampling appetizers, the quality is consistently impressive. Service is attentive and friendly, adding to the overall experience. It's clear that the owners takes pride in making guests feel welcomed and satisfied. Combine that with reasonable prices and generous portions, and you've got a spot that's hard to beat.

Loved the overall environment and ambiance that Cafe Wang presents. Furthermore, their staff were excellent at all levels from ownership all the way to their servers. More so, their food was delicious , my favorite dish being the orange chicken. Finally , big shoutout to the owner Fang for displaying high levels of hospitality and kindness to us. Would highly recommend!

Tried the Orange Chicken, Black Pepper Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Chow Mein, and crystal shrimp dumplings. My favorites were the Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Chow Mein. Everything was pretty good, and the portions were decent. We ordered family-style and everyone left full.

I think Fusion means - can't quite get it right...Looks like dishes Ive eaten over the years but it's not the same flavor! Sorry but disappointed - I was hoping for some good Cantonese Chinese food in La Verne. (like Upper House in Claremont but has closed). The only dish that was spot on here was the Shui-Mai. I will continue my search but not in La Verne.

First time eating here after COVID and the menu changed a lot. I feel lots of items got taken off. The service is good and also seems to have plenty of seats. The food is authentic, but some items on the small portion side. I really love their Stir Fried Chicken w.Hot Pepper, it's one of my favorite dish.

I came here with my mom after an appointment and saw that they had xiao long bao on their menu. We got xiao long bao ($13), chicken chow mein ($16), popcorn chicken ($9), Mongolian beef ($23), hot and sour soup ($6 for a small), and sauteed green bean ($18). The xiao long bao had a thin wrapper but it was a bit dry. It was seasoned nicely and it came with a small dish of black vinegar to dip into. The chow mein was ok, it had a good amount of chicken and it was light on the seasoning. I did like the popcorn chicken which was crispy and had a good portion size, it did remind me of Taiwanese style popcorn chicken at boba drink places. It came with a side of sweet chili sauce. The sauteed green beans were cooked enough and not too salty. The small size of hot and sour soup was good for two people, broth was nicely seasoned. The Mongolian beef ($23) was tender with chunks of jalapenos, bell peppers, and sliced onions. Lots of bits of dried chili in it, the spice level was not hot. The staff was nice, we went there an hour before closing and everything came quickly. They do have a bar and the lighting is dim inside.

Cafe Wang is and Chinese Fusion and Bar restaurant. It's located in Old Town La Verne on D Street, a block from the University. I have been here a handful of times, and every time I go, it is a quick and delightful experience. They open at 11:30 during the week, just in time to take a work lunch! They have a pretty solid and standard Chinese food menu. They do have lunch specials, but if you are coming with friends or family, their regular plates are family style, so you do get A LOT of food to share. The service is quick, and always checking on you. My top 3 mains I usually get are: -Shrimp Fried Rice -Broccoli Beef -Orange Chicken (Can never go wrong with Orange Chicky, lol) But whatever you decide to get from Cafe Wang, you won't be disappointed. Spicy, Sweet, Savory, they have it all! The food is always fresh, consistent and on point! The price range is between $10 - $25, depending on what you're ordering. If your ever in Old Town La Verne, Cafe Wang is a place to try for sure.

First time here during wine walk day and nothing skipped a beat. The food was absolutely fresh delicious we ordered a beef and broccoli pork fried rice and cashew chicken. Had a beer. Enjoyed a delicious lemon drop martini the staff was on top of everything even while, they were catering to the wine walk out front and the food was just nothing but spectacular delicious fresh I wouldn't have expected anything less and I will be back 1 million times more.

Ambiance- Casual setting. Want to have great food while watching a game? This is the spot. TV's surround the eating area. Great for socializing for a pleasant casual evening with friends. Service - service was excellent. Again casual friendly and timely. Food arrives at a reasonable time and servers are there when you need them but not obtrusive. Food- for being a casual unassuming ambiance, you are pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. Every dish was packed with flavor, not greasy, and looking forward to coming back for more. I highly recommend Cafe Wang as a place to frequent.

Love this gem for Chinese food in La Verne! The ambiance is on point & they have a nice bar. My servers were super nice and attentive, going the extra mile to make me a maitai for practice. I tried so many items on the menu here & for a spot that has sooo many diverse options, everything is really solid! Highly recommend the beef buns, red bean buns, XLB, the specialty crispy noodles, and the Kung pao chicken here.

    My hubby enjoying his meal!

Food was amazing and good portions with the combination plates! Atmosphere is modern with bar on the back and simple tables. We came in a Friday night and there was a singer playing the guitar and he was quite good! All in all we had a great time!

I grew up eating Hong Kong style dim sum so I am very picky with my dim sum. We were greeted by a very friendly lady who sat us at a table. There are about 10 tables inside to sit and eat there. We got the usual items like shumai (pork dumplings), har gar (shrimp dumplings), pork spareribs, chicken sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves, bbq pork buns, egg tarts, and I had to try the beef stew rice noodle soup. The server was very attentive to us while she took care of 4 other tables on her own. You do have to pay at store and not on the app when you're ready to checkout. The food came out fast and it tasted fresh. Portion size of the items are great. The bbq pork bun dough was a bit mushy to me. I like when the bun is fluffy and soft. The egg tart was perfect and not overcooked. The shumai and har gar was delicious and huge. The chicken sticky rice was very yummy . The spareribs were a bit fatty but had great flavor. The beef stew rice noodle soup was not my favorite. The beef stew was tender but it lacked flavor and the soup needed more flavor. Overall, we are happy we found a dim sum place that isn't too far from home and we don't have to drive down to OC or LA to eat. We will definitely come back if we have cravings for dim sum.

Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try

Beef potstickers: Appealing looking but awkward to eat and seemed prepared from frozen. The meat was a little roll floating in the middle of the thick wonton wrapper. Pan fried on one side, a bit rubbery. Shredded Cucumber salad with garlic flavor was good with decent fresh cucumber. Scallion pancakes. Greasy. Unable to detect any scallion or onion flavor so I opened it. Tiny specs of what had to be those dried chives or green onion flakes. Scant amount. This is a simple, cheap fix for a usually delightful side order: Just chop up some fresh green onions and throw them in there. Easier on the oil & these would've been pretty good. Wouldn't order this unless they revamp this simple app. Distracting banging around of pots and pants in background. I guess it was pot washing time. Several customers ordered the dim sum and maybe that's the way to go. It's a no go for me.

Stopped by today (Sunday, 02/15/26 with my parents to celebrate Chinese/Lunar New Year). This was…read moreour first time here and upon arrival, there were a bunch of customers inside waiting to be seated, waiting for their to-go order, waiting in line to pay the bill, etc. I waited in line and then asked for a table of 3, and they directed me to sign in on the paper list, which I did. I wish there was a better way of seeing that list because I really had no clue and waited in line for nothing. The wait time honestly needs better attention. We probably waited around 20-25 minutes. It was very busy that day, and I'm not sure if it's because it's the weekend and/or due to Chinese New Year. Staff members are shuffling back and forth and are quite rude to be honest. I get that they are stressed running around, but still.... Anyways, we ordered the following via online (scan the QR Code on the table, that is probably better since they are too busy to take your order): - 1 shrimp siu mai (4 pieces) = $5.99 - 1 shrimp dumplings (we got 4 pieces instead of 3 per menu): $5.99 - 1 steamed BBQ pork buns (3 pieces) = $5.99 - 2 sticky rice wrapped with lotus leaf (4 total) = $13.98 - 1 yang chow fried rice = $15.99 - 1 seafood with pan fried crispy noodle = $17.99 SUBTOTAL = $65.93 TAX = $5.11 TOTAL = $71.04 ** Place $10 tip via cash ** We received our yang chow fried rice and crispy noodle timely, however it took a REALLY LONG TIME for us to receive the rest of the orders (the dim sum aka yum cha order); I had to ask the front how long the wait will be, otherwise we will cancel - the lady ended up checking and we got some of our orders. If I didn't ask, the wait time would be wayyyyy longer. Overall, we all enjoyed the food. Very authentic (Hong Kong Style). Management needs to improve and the wait time. Very small inside, this place needs to expand. There is another location in El Monte.

Was it worth it? Yes! Have not been to Lunasia before (shock), but have been brought the takeout before so great to finally experience it. The interior was beautiful, and loved the orchids at the table. The food was delicious - I loved everything my mom ordered, EXCEPT the taro cake with beef, but taro is not my thing. Mom was happy with her "5 Star" dim sum experience, so that's what I am rating it!

We made a reservation but the staff didn't seem to know what was going on (nor care) since they also have a self sign in waitlist service. That's whatever, annoying but tolerable. However, the food-- yikes. We ordered two shrimp hargows for the table and one of them came with undercooked shrimp. The long noodles with beef was not good. The meat was hard and tasted old. The ribs were good and tasted as expected. The porridge was also fine. We didn't complain about the shrimp so that's on us but really there wouldn't have been anyone to flag down. They pretty much only run food to you, there's no actual service. It's like fast food dimsum but with sit down prices. Something went wrong in the past few years and I will not return.
