The amount of food and the size of each individual piece of shu mai was larger than I expected with comparison to Downtown Los Angeles' Chinatown restaurants. The steamed pork bun was comparable in size and flavor, which was very good and perfectly steamed. The service is top notch. I never had to ask for anything I might have needed. All food ordered was brought out individually and in a very timely manner. All condiments such as chili oil and soy sauce were all within reach on the table. I ordered a Pepsi as my beverage and the 12 oz. can and cup of ice was also promptly brought out to me. I was in the town for a wedding. The next day. I was craving dim sum and was checking out Yelp. This place seemed rated pretty high, so I decided to drop by for a bite. I ordered the rice world with shrimp and a bowl of wonton and noodles. The noodles were a bit overcooked but the wonton was fantastic. The rice noodle with shrimp was pretty good too. I appreciated the price. It was comparable to other places. If not better. I do recommend this place and I do plan to come back if I am in town. And the service was nice. My server was very nice and appropriately talkative. She took good care of me. It was decently busy when I arrived. I was grateful of that. I was able to get small booth for me and my baby. Had the porridge ordered and flavor was really bland. Probably due to the lazy way of making it where they mix pure rice porridge with requested contents right after receiving order and never boiled them together meaningfully. Why I'm confident this is the case? Keeping it overnight and heating it the next day brought out the flavor ten fold, actually night and day. All the ingredients were there, just not cooked together. They gave us the menu and a piece of paper to place our order. The restaurant was very clean and it's small. Service was okay. The food came out pretty quickly. I grew up eating dim sum, so I am very picky when eating dim sum. The portion sizes are good and the flavor is there. The food did taste fresh but some items were not up to par. The Siu Mai was not my favorite cause the pork filling was too dense and didn't have any flavor. The Har Gau (shrimp dumpling) had a huge shrimp. I just wished the dough was a better quality. The Shrimp Rice Roll was also not one of my favorites as the rice noodles were too thin. The Sticky Rice was really flavorful and yummy. The Garlic Spare Ribs with Taro was tasty but it usually has black beans in it for more flavor. The BBQ pork bun had great flavor and the dough was perfect. Omg this place is amazing. I came in by myself on a weekday and was seated very fast. My waitress Mckenzie was super sweet and explained how the menu worked and gave me fast service. I appreciated that there were images of all the menu items which made it easier for me to decide what I wanted. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and modern. I also appreciated how spotless the restroom was. I absolutely loved the #1 Crystal Shrimp Dumplings and the #15 Shrimp Rice Rolls. I highly recommended ordering both if you love shrimp. I also ordered the BBQ Pork Buns which were also delicious. One thing that you can really taste here is the freshness and quality of the food. We came on Tuesday afternoon around 3pm. It wasn't busy but we are a party of 6. There was only one waitress. She was sweet. We've had her before but attentiveness was lacking. Love this place, we usually don't have a problem with the wait time to be seated - they're pretty quick at bringing water and checking if we're ready to order. The food is always delicious!! We've gotten the soup dumplings, wonton and spicey udon soup, spicey wontons, shumai, cucumber salad and rice in the past times we've gone and I would say the only thing I wouldn't reorder is the cucumber salad - not my favorite at this location the flavors different. First of all, the service was excellent. The little girl was very sweet and helpful when it came to ordering. I think they make ordering quite easy. I don't understand how some people in the comments are so picky--they inspect the food, the location, the spoon, the chopsticks, and even how long it took their party of 10 to be seated. Come on, guys. It's a small place with tiny booths, not a large restaurant, and they were accommodating a party of 7 .Yet, some still complain about everything. This is honestly one of my favorite dim sum places, and I've been to quite a few! I love that we have this absolute gem in the IE, wow!!!! I don't think there's one item here that I've got and not enjoyed. The main staple items that we normally get at every other dim sum spot came out so tasty. It does feel a little pricier than some of the other places, but I love that the size of the items are actually pretty decent for the price. I got the rice rolls with shrimp, har gau, siu mai, porridge, chili oil wontons (these actually could've been a little more flavorful in terms of sauce, but still pretty good), chicken feet and tea. I love that they actually give you options for the hot tea as well, jasmine, oolong and i forget the last option. I went with the jasmine and honestly its such a great way to compliment the food. I would 100% come back. So gooooooood and one of the few places in the IE that offers dim sum with such a complete selection on the menu. read more

Delicious dim sum can be found here. One of the best tasting that I have ever had at a reasonable price point. I ordered a Pork and Preserved Egg Porridge. What can I say? It is probably the best I have ever tasted from a restaurant. The porridge/congee was the right consistency with plenty of ginger flavored shredded pork and pieces of preserved egg. It was perfect as a filling breakfast to start your day. The portion size is huge so it can be easily shared with another person. I didn't try them this time but next time I will order fried crullers to go with this porridge. The Crystal Shrimp Dumplings and Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai were huge in size compared to other places. The dumplings are easily four to five bites. They come four to an order and fill the bottom of the takeout containers. Both shrimp and pork dumplings have nice savory flavors. Sticky rice dumpling is glutinous rice and a chicken filling steamed in a lotus leaf. These are made as a single serving but can be split for sharing. The filling consists of small chopped pieces of seasoned chicken and vegetables. These sticky rice has a nice, soft, chewy texture which goes well with the chicken filling. I also ordered chicken feet and ginger tripe. The chicken feet were cooked until tender and gelatinous in texture. These had a good flavor. The steamed book tripe was seasoned lightly with ginger and slivers of chile. I ordered a steamed rice roll with cilantro since this is not a usual rice roll flavor. The cilantro was fresh and bright tasting with the steamed rice noodle and soy sauce. It was a good change from those made with meat. For dessert, I chose the egg tart. These were very flaky with a tender crust. The egg custard filling was just right in sweetness. It was a good ending to a great meal. Online ordering makes it easy to pick up when you arrive. The restaurant is just south of the 10 with easy access into the shopping center from all directions. The dining area looked comfortable and airy so I plan on a return trip soon to dine in. read more

It's been a while since I read this review and have been eating at Get Sum pretty regularly since. Originally, the service was provided by a family member, super friendly and helpful, but as their business has solidified, they've hired a few additional staff. Whatever is in the water the family drinks has most certainly been passed on to other staff as everyone is super friendly, efficient and helpful. Also, I've tried a broad range of items since my last review and have yet to eat anything that tastes less than fantastic. Our absolute favorites are the Leek Shrimp Dumplings, Shrimp/Pork Wontons in Chili Oil and Chinese Kale. The Leek Shrimp Dumplings are large and stuffed full of shrimp & leek, with a perfectly steamed and slightly chewy wrapper. They come 3 per order and are just translucent in appearance so you can see the stuffing. We love these dipped in a mix of black vinegar, soy sauce and their exceptional house made chili oil. I've never seen this dish done in such a delicious manner in any other dim sum restaurant and I could eat an entire meal of just this dish. The Shrimp/Pork Wontons in Chili Oil, 8 per order, are packed with filling and their exceptional house wonton wrapper is thin and tender. The chili oil is medium spicy, but the hint of numbing Sichuan pepper, cilantro and other aromatics make this dish a flavor bomb that is SO craveable. These are, hands down, the best wontons in chili oil my family and I have ever had and we've collectively eaten at may of the best & famous dim sum restaurants in the San Gabriel valley and inland empire. Finally, they serve two Chinese vegetables that are boiled then topped with hot oil and flavored soy sauce. We're partial the Chinese Kale, or gai lan if buying at an Asian market. The greens are cooked to be soft but still with good crunch. They are then topped with a very hot oil and super flavorful soy sauce. The vegetables are a fantastic accompaniment to the rich dumplings and round out our meal nicely. Other menu items we've eaten and worth of mentioning are the Vegetable Pot stickers which are packed with filling and pan fried to perfection. The baked egg tarts are just sweet enough with a flaky crust and the perfect texture. The special beef noodle soup has a super rich broth with those quintessentially thin noodles, is packed with very tender beef and accompanied by some Chinese Kale. The veggie egg rolls are very flavorful, packed with filling and exceptionally crispy. All of these and more are so worth trying out here. This morning we had the pleasure of chatting with one of the chef/owners who was also very friendly and happy to talk with us about why they've decided to maintain their commitment to hand making their dumplings rather than the time saving, machine made product. She said that while it takes much longer to make their food by hand, they want tie customers to have the best dining experience they can provide and that hand mixing their dough and hand wrapping each dumpling is the only way to ensure their desired outcome. Came in on a Monday afternoon. At first glance, the restaraunt looks completely unassuming, with random stitch, animal, and mario kart wall art. The chinese words "起士林" in the logo literally means "cheese forest"! I was worried it would be another one of those hipster, overpriced but mid restaraunts. It proved me wrong. My recommended dishes with expected flavor profile based on all the other dim sum I've eaten in my life: 2. Siu Mai w Pork w/ Shrimp: Huge size and good flavor, though a little different from usual Siu Mai which comes with roe on top. 6. Chicken Feet: Soft and chewy. Expect bones of course. 20. Ham Sui Gok: For those who havent tried this before, imagine a fried mochi ball with dumpling filling inside. This one was surprisingly less fried than other places, so it was nice not feeling as greasy. 29. Yu Choy Sum: Perfectly blanched. Amazing in texture, though it could have used some more oyster sauce on the side. 27. *Baked BBQ Pork Bun*: Star of the show. I'm used to having ones that just use honey glaze on sweet bread. But this one is similar to pan dulce with a crispy sweet top. Inside is chinese bbq pork, which is sweet. Dishes that could have been better: 32. Special Beef Noodle Soup: The meat was incredibly tender and flavor. The broth is similar to tonkotsu, rich and creamy. However, the soup wasnt spicy at all, maybe to play it safe for new customers. It didnt really stand out to me. It felt like it was missing something, maybe more salt or chili oil? 38. Pork Wonton in Chili Oil: The wontons are quite small, though are flavorful. But the chili oil needs more heat. I think if they were slightly larger and had more spices (such as more cilantro, scallions, garlic), it would make the dish stand out more. Other things about the restaraunt: We waited about 10-15 minutes for the first dish, but the others came pretty quickly after.
