This is the building or place that looks so plain from the outside and then BAM - you walk in and have this mesmerizing hour of Wows and OMG!! Met a pal for dinner on Tuesday April 7th. The first thing that struck me was the absolutely lovely inside. Warm and friendly greeter/hostess who walked me to the bar as I was 10 minutes early. Amazing bartender( I am so sorry I forgot her name)- spunky, so energetic and contagious. This is a huge restaurant with dining rooms for miles( seemed like it). We had a very sharp and fun waiter Eric who took great care of us. We ordered the steamed veggie dumplings - tasty and fresh; Kon Pao Shrimp ( regular portion $25 which was enough vs the Family size $43) - best dish of the evening plus the bok choi mushrooms which was ok. Our diet sodas were refilled constantly and we sat in a back dining area that was pretty busy with bigger parties ( next to us were families of 6 and 10 celebrating birthdays). The food overall was awesome. The service was spot on. The interior and the vibe were warm and inviting. Loved that the bar area had ample seating and loads of TV's with lots of hockey and baseball on. Panda Inn does catering and is open daily from 11 to 9:30. Loved that they had regulars and fans coming in at 7:15 pm on a Tuesday. There is a private parking lot plus free street parking in front of the restaurant. This was a fun evening. I am a huge Panda Inn fan and anytime there is a reason to celebrate, we always find our way back here. We got a reservation this last Saturday for 6:30 and were seated really quickly. The room we were sat in was sooo packed full and it was way louder than normal. I actually left the restaurant feeling slightly hoarse from having to talk so loudly to my friends (only a party of 3, so a very small table) We ordered drinks and ordered food really quickly after sitting down (we had already discussed the menu on the ride over lol), but this is where it went all kinds of wrong. Our server disappeared. No drinks refilled. No one asked if we wanted another cocktail. Our food didn't arrive for almost an hour after ordering. I understand stuff happens, but it took me asking if everything was okay for the server to acknowledge it had been that long. We only ordered 4 small plates and they arrived at different times, so we ended up eating our food one at a time. A simple "I'm so sorry" or "here are some wontons on the house" could have gone a long way here. For the price and the state of the economy, service really matters right now. Luckily for them, the food was still delicious, so of course we will be back. Unfortunately, this visit left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths (not literally!) and I hope they can take this as some constructive feedback. read more

I was here a few days ago for my cousin's birthday dinner. There were a lot of us, so we reserved the back room. Although there were a lot of us, we still received exceptional service. The food is always good. One thing I wanna note is the flavor/ seasoning seems to be the same for most of their dishes. And very saucy too (which can make crunchy food get soggy easily IMO). Crab Wonton: My first time trying the crab wontons here and I was not impressed. Although very tasty and filling, the filling was all cream cheese. I did not get any taste of crab. Chow Fun: Very saucy. If you look at my picture, you can see all the sauce that drained to the bottom. Fish in Black Bean Sauce: This one didn't have enough sauce. See picture. The sauce was just distributed in the middle. Although very flavorful and the batter and fish is seasoned well, I just so happen to get the pieces of fish with no sauce. Been here many times with the family and relatives. I thought I did a review of this restaurant before, guess I did not, so here we go. This is the same company as Panda Express, but way better with more selections, more upscale, and they have alcohol and wait staffs. This is a hidden gem. I believe they have only two locations, this one and the one in Pasadena. Been to both locations. Both locations are very nice, but this one in Ontario is better, I think. Plus, this is closer to me than the one in Pasadena. As I mentioned earlier, this restaurant is very nice. Very beautiful decors. Be warned, this place is popular and can be crowded especially during the holidays. Highly suggest you make a reservation if you come here with a large group. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. I had a decent experience coming here today for lunch. We came at an off time (3PM) and were able to get sat immediately. I liked the layout, many dining areas, the bar etc. It is an expansive space. Service started out average. I was debating getting the milk tea & the server was so nice to get me a sample of it! We placed the order for sodas and appetizers. We ordered a collection of entrees including kung pao shrimp, cashew chicken, Mongolian beef, broccoli beef, ma po tofu, fried rice and lo mein. I liked the fried potstickers. I didn't prefer the taste of the pork dumplings. The ma po tofu came as expected with a strong peppercorn taste. I liked the presentation of it. The fried rice was standard. The lo mein noodles were thicker than expected. My family did not like the Mongolian beef as it had a horrid smell. Our server was nice to take it off the bill. The service was average- my family struggled to get appropriate refills on soda. The server was also going to pour water into the Coke glass but we stopped her. The portions are great for family style. There are two dish sizes to choose from. The regular would be great to share with 2-3 people. We ended the meal with chocolate lava cake which I personally found bitter. I think this place is so much better than PF changs. I'd come again to try the walnut shrimp. read more

Wanting to change up the holiday food scene a bit, I opted to go here with Diane for fine Chinese food on Christmas Eve. (After all, it can get monotonous even to eat steak and lobster every night!) We deliberately ordered less food than usual in anticipation of feasting on Christmas Day. We began with tender Vegetable Egg Rolls and Pan Fried Pork Pot Stickers with Potsticker Sauce, Hoisin Sauce, Sweet & Sour Sauce, and Hot Chili Oil. Requested Ginger was unavailable this night. The Pot Stickers were golden, delicious, and quickly dispatched. Two of four Egg Rolls were taken home for lunch the next day. Next up was Three Flavor Sizzling Rice Soup with shrimp, bite-size scallops, and white meat chicken. The soup was hot, enhanced by mushrooms, snow peas and other vegetables, and the broth was very tasty. Then I diverged from Diane's sweet Honey Walnut Shrimp with Honey Sauce and Steamed White Rice, which she very much liked, to order Shrimp & Garlic Sauce with Panda Rice. The garlic-tinged shrimps were nicely mixed with assorted vegetables, and added some needed spice to the meal. The Panda Rice was good, too, but not at all what I expected. It contained very large shrimp and scrambled eggs, and was really a substantial entree rather than a side. Most of it was taken home. Concerning service, we experienced some difficulties. I had to ask for water to be delivered to our table three times; hot Jasmine Tea three times; and knives four times before we finally had everything we needed for a complete and manageable meal. The flavor is extraordinary and I highly recommend you try it for yourself! The ambiance is very inviting and the interior is gorgeous. Of course, the decor is upcale and the menu prices are higher -- there are some similar items to the Express chain, but unique ones as well. I'm not sure I could tell the difference between Panda Inn orange chicken versus the usual fare from Panda Express. Flavors seemed Americanized and it's easier to find better in Northern California. I was genuinely excited to visit Panda Inn because of its connection to Panda Express. This is the restaurant that started it all, the classy older sibling of the fast-food favorite. My best friend is a total Panda Express fanatic, so taking him here for his birthday felt like the perfect idea. The hype was real. The parking lot was surprisingly full, but we scored front-row parking which felt like a good start. We walked through the big fancy double doors expecting to be greeted right away, but instead we stood there awkwardly for three full minutes while staff members walked by and looked at us without saying a word. It was giving "Are we ghosts?" energy. Finally, a hostess appeared and seated us, and I tried to shake off that weird first impression. We got seated at a small booth for two that looked fine at first glance but quickly became a problem. Once you start ordering food, it feels like a game of balancing plates on a Jenga tower. There was no space for utensils, napkins, or drinks, and it became painfully obvious that the setup wasn't designed for anyone who actually plans to eat. That's when I noticed the tablecloth had a stain, then another, and then...dirty plates left over. That was the moment I knew this lunch was going to be interesting. Enter Jack, our server, who completely saved the day. He noticed right away, apologized sincerely, and moved us to another table. Unfortunately, the new table also had dirty plates, which at that point was just comically bad luck. We laughed it off and decided to order anyway. We got the fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, spicy trio, and a noodle dish that looked great online but was honestly a major flop in real life. The dumplings were decent but had too much outer wrapper, not enough filling, and the spicy edamame was absolutely delicious. If there's one thing I'd order again, it's the edamame. Now the drinks were a whole other saga. Jack hyped up the specialty drinks like raspberry lemonade, milk boba tea, and a house-made ginger ale. I was excited to try them all, but then he came back and said the ginger ale was out. No big deal, he brought two lemonades instead and even comped one for the inconvenience, which was really kind of him. Then the boba tea never arrived either. At that point, we just switched to water and laughed about it. Jack handled everything with such grace that we couldn't even be mad. He was easily the highlight of the entire experience. The food was hot and fresh, which was nice compared to Panda Express where it sometimes sits under the heat lamps. But the prices were shocking. For two people, with a couple of appetizers and entrees, the total was around a hundred dollars. That included a twenty dollar tip because Jack truly went above and beyond, but still...it's a lot for Chinese food, even the "fancy" kind. We did take leftovers home, but when I reheated them later, they didn't hit the same way at all. That's when I realized this experience was a solid three out of five. The ambience feels upscale, but the service gaps and pricing make it hard to justify a return visit. As for the restrooms, they were mildly dirty with overflowing trash and no paper towels, which was disappointing considering it was only one in the afternoon. You'd think things would be spotless that early in the day. The whole place has this interesting contrast...it's trying to be fine dining, but parts of it still feel like a regular Panda Express that got dressed up for prom. All in all, I loved the nostalgia and the story behind Panda Inn, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. It's one of those "glad I tried it once" places. The food was fine, the service from Jack was outstanding, but the overall experience didn't quite match the hype. If I ever do return, it'll be for Jack's incredible hospitality, not the noodles. read more

First time being at panda inn after many years of driving passed it. Panda inn is serving up Chinese food similar to Panda Express but in a more gourmet way. The restaurant is much bigger than expected and makes me feel like I'm in a movie with the classic round tables and traditional decor. I especially love the panda stain glass windows. We tried several food items with the orange chicken and chow mein being some of the stand outs. I do recommend coming in a large group as plates come in big portions. My only complaint is that it is very busy and service is a little slow. It was hard to get a hold of a waiter and they often forgot to bring what we asked for. We waited a long time to pay until we finally got a hold of someone passing by. However if you really enjoy Chinese food i do suggest giving it a try as long as you're patient. read more

I told you we would be back to try a new Panda Inn. After our last visit to a Panda Inn (see review) we jumped at our first chance to visit another location. Place is beautiful and I love how they used clear rubix cubes as lighting fixtures. We were greeted by a very nice server who was great but forgot about us as our dinner ended. We decided since there was no visible sushi bar or our favorite sushi chef David (again, see other review) to skip sushi and went right into ordering. We ordered way too much and loved it all. Try the garlic edamame, mmmmm. Place was great until we needed the check. We will definitely try another location as we're addicted and always on the lookout. read more

I've been to Panda Inn before but it had been quite some time. Since I was visiting family in SoCal this was one of the stops we had on our list to go to. Our whole family went for dinner, a party of 7 and they were able to seat us right away. I will say that the ambiance of the restaurant is very upscale. I love the interior decor! They do offer private rooms, I'm not if theres an extra cost associated with being sat there but it's a nice option to have if you want a more private, intimate gathering because the regular dining room is very loud. It's a little hard to have a conversation with your party with how the room echoes so keep that in mind if you plan to dine here. Service was pretty good. We had 2 waiters apparently but really only one of them came around to get our orders or check in with us. The dishes are served family style so everyone can share. We ordered regular size for all of our choices and it was more than enough for our party of 7 people. I can't remember all of the items we ordered but I know that their Phoenix chicken, Panda beef and fried rice were my top favorites from what we did get. The crab rangoon unfortunately was a bit too crabby for my liking, if you like seafood then definitely go for it. But me personally I tend to like more cream cheese than crab. My dad really liked their upside down noodles and my sister loves the panda beef. Overall Panda Inn is a really nice upscale Chinese restaurant, it definitely comes with the upscale prices though. For our dinner the total bill was around $260. We did order quite a bit though but their dishes are expensive. I think my favorite part is the chocolate covered fortune cookies they give you at the end. It's partially coated in white chocolate and sooo delicious. Perfect way to end the pricey meal! read more

We have always been big fans of Panda Inn, so I was excited that we were near Ontario so we could try a different location. We were seated for lunch immediately. Booths are very comfortable and our drink orders were taken right away. When our soft drinks came, the server even took away the paper covering from the straws. Such a nice touch! This may have been the best service I've ever had in any restaurant...wow!! Our server was very friendly and attentive. He made up our mush pork and our crispy noodles, and his assistant expertly bagged our leftovers (which was a lot on account of their generous portions). We were offered drink refills on numerous occasions. Needless to say, the food is outstanding, as it always is.
