We are new to Collierville and wanted to try a local restaurant for our anniversary weekend and heard about Cafe Piazza. I would love to be giving a review on the food, but we didn't make it that far. I called as soon as they opened to make a reservation for that night and was told they do not take reservations on the weekend, which I totally understand. We decided to try anyway knowing there would be a wait which was fine. We arrived and were told by one of the staff that the wait would be about 20-25 minutes, which was great! We said we would take first available. About 30 minutes later, another couple came in and spoke to a different staff member and asked what the wait was and they were told an hour. They then asked about seating on the patio and they were seated immediately outside. By then, a 3rd staff member was at the desk and I asked if the patio was open seating - she said no, unless you had a reservation then it would be about an hour wait. I told her that I called that morning and was told they do not take reservations on weekends. She then told me that yeah, we get that a lot, but we do take reservations and apologized for the confusion. We continued to wait until another couple came in, spoke to the same staff member that seated the couple outside and asked about the wait, then asked about sitting outside and the server seated that couple immediately. At this point, we had been waiting almost an hour. We decided the confusion was not worth it so we left. I understand if they were short handed and we do not mind waiting at all. But there does not seem to be any system or communication between the staff regarding seating. It all depended on who happened to be manning the hostess station when guests came in. One star is for the location and ambience, we went there today first time. Don't think there was any chef, everything was from frozen food, server didn't had any clue about food. The place is too small for a lot of people. The service was awesome, and they do refills on drinks. The meat ravioli was good with that marinara sauce. Even the pizza was great, and I ate the mushroom first. The mushroom type is Portabella. The lobster bake is the special, and with those breadsticks you could dip them in it. We shared a salad and the Smoked Chicken with Ravioli; it was very good. During the meal, we added the Bread Sticks filled with cheese accompanied with sauce. The Bread was good, but actually the bread that came with the meal, seemed to have better flavor. The sauce with the bread was extremely hot, burn the mouth type temperatures, had hoped they would regulate that better. Completed the meal with a Berry Cobbler, it was very good, would do it again. On our next visit, we will probably go down the Pizza route, with the Salad once more. read more

So, we came here on a very strong recommendation from some fellow foodies and honestly I challenge their recommendation. 1. Service - 5 * all the way. From walking in the door to walking out, phenomenal customer service! 2. Atmosphere - also 5* quality - in a quaint old house with old wood floors and enclosed deck seating as well. Romantic and fun! 3. Menu - I'd give a strong 4 *. It was a front / back menu, so there were options. 4. Quality of food - This is where I feel like they fell flat. As all of my other reviews have stated, I am a bit snobby when it comes to Italian food but I'll give any place a try. My husband's "Make your own" pizza was great!!! Bravo! Now this is where we go down hill. I ordered the Caprese salad for an appetizer. Although tasty, very disappointing. It was halved grape/cherry tomatoes with what seemed to be 1 slice of mozeralla cut into 1/4 inch cubes, with large fresh basil, balsamic and pesto. Like I said, tasty but disappointing. Next, my main course. I ordered the Maryland blue crab ravioli. Sounds delicious, right?? Very wrong! First, it comes out with a light brush of sauce on it. (It comes with alfredo but I substituted with what I thought was a pesto sauce). Still, it looks delicious. First bite, ravioli is al dente but the story goes on. Second bite, there's a slight chill, "Was this supposed to be a cold dish?" Because the 3rd bite was the breaker! Not luke warm cool but refrigerator cold. Hum, Nope! Now like I said, the service was phenomenal!! The waitress was very apologetic, took the dish back and had a NEW entree done for me. This one was very toasty warm!! Still the dish just lacked for me. Lacked in sauce for sure, taste - a bit bland, and just overall - blah! Now the question is, would I go back again? Good question. Possibly for the pizza but probably not likely. My old man loves this place for some reason; I've tried it a few times and was never impressed with anything beyond their desserts. We went tonight after the Xmas tree lighting on the square because everywhere else was on a wait. Our server, Jennifer, was attentive and did a good job. My old man had a pizza, wife had the crawfish pasta, and kiddo had the fried ravioli. I opted for the special, a penne lobster pasta (similar to lobster Mac & Cheese) for $18. When the food was delivered mine was piping hot out of the oven, covered with a healthy portion of mozzarella cheese. It was too hot to eat, so I dug the top layer of cheese off to reveal the pasta and lobster portions- this is where the disappointment set in... the lobster portion was non-existent. So much so that I made a point (since it was still too hot to eat) to pick out the lobster pieces and pile them on one side of the dish. It took 5 minutes or so, but when I finished there was almost a spoon full of tiny pieces, slivers really, of lobster. When she came back by I asked Jennifer if this was normal, she advised me she would inquire with the kitchen. Upon her return she informed me that the "Chef" advised her that the majority of lobster meat in this particular dish was puréed into the sauce of the pasta. WTF?!? I've had a few lobster pasta dishes in my travels, and normally with an $18 dish you can at least find 1 or 2 decent chunks of meat, but this dish literally had a spoon full of tiny slivers of lobster meat (and a small piece of shell, which was larger than any pieces of meat). I finished the dish, with the exception of the original roof of mozzarella that hid the disappointment. There was no follow up or recourse. I suppose it's par for a Collierville restaurant. On the bright side I can now brag to my friends that I roll enough bank to pay $18 for Mac & Cheese.... One final irk- they don't offer a side salad. My wife and I ended up splitting a $9 Caesar. Dressing tasted like it came out of a jar, lettuce was warm, and it was terrible underwhelming. The final cost of dinner (with no alcohol) was $82. Definitely overpriced for 3 adults and a child. Hopefully they close and someone who has a talent for food can open a decent restaurant. If you're in the area and hungry, try the Pharm2fork. Or go to this place if you're craving dessert. read more

Their breadsticks are so good. If you like Olive Garden breadsticks, these are 1,000 times better. I had the toasted ravioli as an appetizer, and they were the best I've had. For my entree, I had crab ravioli. The stuffing was good, but it tasted more crab cakey than I expected. The alfredo sauce was creamy and delicious without being too heavy. I got a cannoli to share. Whenever I'm traveling, I check for good local pizza places, and I really enjoyed Cafe Piazza. They have a great menu, and it's upscale without being uncomfortable. The service was average, and it did seem like the food took a little longer to get to the table than at a chain restaurant. But it's not a chain, and the food was definitely a reminder of that. The pizza is a thin crust but well done, and the different cheeses available made them stand out. Wish I had room for dessert, but maybe next time. read more

Quaint little cafe in a charming location on the Collierville square. The food is always amazing and a wonderful choice for locals or visitors. You can tell the owner is from a real Italian family because the ingredients and seasonings all taste super fresh as if they just purchased them that very day. Listen. I know authentic! The meat sauce takes me back to my grandfathers kitchen in the north east. His father came over from "the boot" if you know what I'm saying. Their meat sauce here is legit. It's the closest I have ever had down here. And the cannoli, "Fuhghettaboutit". So friggin good. We got our meal carry out and could not have been more pleased. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Collierville, however I can no longer support a business whose owner has no sense of customer service and who drives his patrons away. I'm getting married, and we are having a very small ceremony. Because this restaurant holds special value to my fiancé and me, we wanted to have a group of 10 here for dinner after the ceremony. The owner declined our request for a reservation even after explaining how we chose this place specially. He said we would sit too long. Let's not forget that we would be spending tons of money on food and alcohol and would be spreading the word, but no. This was our first visit to Cafe Piazza after many great reviews from family and friends. We arrived right before the dinner rush and were seated immediately. The hostess was very friendly to us; however, there was a younger gentleman who arrived first in his party and was rudely told that not only would they not seat him until everyone arrived, but that all their larger tables were taken and it would be almost 2 hours before he could be seated. I get it- it's dinner rush on a Friday night- but there is no need to be rude, especially in front of other customers. Our waitress was friendly, although a little more preoccupied with a table of people she knew. This particular table had a little girl and she kept hugging her and playing with her hair, then would go to the kitchen and bring out food. I feel certain there was not any handwashing going on in between the trips and seeing as how it was my food she was delivering, that would have been appreciated. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and my husband had the crawfish pasta. We also split an order of garlic breadsticks. Seriously- do not miss out on them. They were amazing! My husband really enjoyed the crawfish pasta and said it was very fresh and flavorful. The spaghetti and meatballs were also very good, but my portion was much smaller than my husband's and there was too much sauce in comparison to the pasta. Good thing the sauce was really good! Our waitress asked about whether we wanted dessert and boxes for our food before we were done eating. When we declined both, she brought the check, leaving us feeling rushed and that it was more important to turn the table over to the next customers. Hubs and I came here for lunch for the first time recently. We were seated in a back corner instead of the open area at the entrance, which would have been much nicer! The Hewlett & Dunn pizza was good, but very very greasy! The plastered walls of the back room were rather distracting, but not as much as the ravioli we were so excited to try. Blue crab ravioli left much to be desired, especially for the price! If not for the name of the dish, I would not have known it was even crab. We recently moved to Collierville from the Chicago area and have been looking for a good Italian restaurant. Sadly, this place is not it. I ordered a simple dish of spaghetti and marinara sauce.
