I came here for brunch and the food was delicious. I ordered the tostada and shared a chia pudding and turmeric latte with my friend. The turmeric latte was incredible. I have never tasted a drink like that. It was almost like curry but in a creamy latte. If you don't like curry, you may not like this. The chia pudding was also very good. It had fresh fruit on top that was fresh. To our happy surprise one of the fruits was persimmon. The chia pudding part was nice and thick with a creamy flavor to it. It was very light to eat. The tostada had so much lettuce on top I thought it was supposed to be a salad. The lettuce had cilantro, thinly sliced carrots, and avocado on top of it. The crunchy tortilla was under there though. The meat was seasoned so well and had great flavor. The sauce on top was amazing and went well with the meat and tostada feel. I added some hot sauce on top for a little kick. They make delicious food! I work in the neighborhood and this is my absolute favorite lunch spot. They are famous locally for their vegan offerings and cater to a wide range of dietary needs like gluten free etc. None of that applies to me, I just love the fact their food always tastes incredibly good! And I like the idea they buy from local farmers. My go to is Phoenix Breakfast Potatoes with Andouille sausage. The title breakfast potatoes doesn't do them justice. They are magic. Besides magic there are mushrooms and onions and some yummy cheese in there. I mentioned sausage, also topped with two yummy eggs. Best breakfast potatoes I have ever had. Seasoned just right, not greasy. Too much to eat at once. Besides the breakfast potatoes I have had several other menu items and never found one I did not like. Really great crew out front. Loved this little cafe and it's delightful menu of healthy and tasty food. The service was quick and easy, order at the counter upon entering and they bring you your food pretty quickly. I ordered the corn fritter/zucchini special with a side salad which was really good, not dry as some fritters tend to be and the green sauce on top (cilantro crema perhaps ?) was super good. The salad was a fresh addition. My sister ordered the special fig, roasted beet salad with feta and a really great balsamic dressing. I'm glad we got the large salad as a small simply wouldn't have sufficed. My other sister ordered the special veggie omelette with potatoes. It was very flavorful and cooked well. The potatoes weren't your usual country style cut but were instead cut thin and flat. I liked that. We finished off with the chia seed pudding, something I recently discovered and love, so was so happy they had it on the menu. It was topped with berries and chopped nuts which really gave it a wonderful texture. We sat in their lovely outdoor garden where furry friends are welcome. Last night we went to Cafe Phoenix for the first time. We left the restaurant choice up to new friends we were meeting that have a mostly plant based diet preference. Somehow I thought this place was strictly vegetarian/vegan but was happy to learn they also have some meat options for us opportunivores (people like us that will eat anything). This is a cozy little place where you order your food at the counter then have a seat and they bring it to you. You get your own utensils and water and it's self bussing. Pictured you'll see all four of our meals. I had the salmon, my husband had fish tacos our dining partners had the "Asian Inspired" salad with tofu and a polenta dish. I loved the colorful presentation of the food on the plates (well, they were bowls). I am a visual-first eater and this made my eyes happy. The husband enjoyed his fish tacos and choose salad as his side. There were other options but this was the smartest (we might both be getting big bellies these days). I noticed the hot sauce on the counter behind us after I cleared our dishes and he might have like having that on there as well. That's what you get for being a first timer, I guess. My salmon was pretty good. We all agreed it was slightly overcooked but you know, I order fish all the time everywhere and that seems to be typical. I also had to salt the dish twice to bump up flavors but I'd rather do that then get a plate of over salted food. I also felt like my food could have been hotter. I always give bonus points when my plate arrives still steaming. Regardless, I still enjoyed my food and especially the company. Since I walk all around town (Arcata) these days I really need to stop in and get a salad to go or dine in and check out some other dishes. The French toast was burnt so bad the bread was solid black, it was completely inedible. It was covered with fruit and a yogurt blend to disguise the burnt bread. You have to pay for your food when you order so you're screwed when the food is bad. Very basic and low quality. read more

My favorite meal during this entire trip. We order a stir fry from their special menu as well as a hash from their favorites. Both was so delicious and healthy especially after a good hike. Make sure you order a smoothie or drink too. If I could I would love to go down the list. First of all, I did spend some time reading the reviews from people that allegedly visited this restaurant. It always amazes me that some people go out of their way to conjure up some stupid tale of a bad experience, when no reasonable person would write something so lame. Those types of reviews are usually accompanied by poor grammar and irrational responses. So, now for my review of Cafe Phoenix... Oh my God! This place is the bomb! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very clean, floor to ceiling. The food was delicious! Great portions and flavor. As for the people who claimed they thought the food was bland, that is because it is obviously fresh food with real spices. What they are evidently accustomed to is likely laden with salt, sugar, fat, and MSG. Everything we had was off of the vegan menu, and tasted out of this world. I simply wish this restaurant was located where we live. The prices were quite reasonable in my opinion--despite claims of being overpriced. After all, eating fast food will cost you $10-$15 per person, so, I was more than happy to pay a little extra for quality and great taste; not to mention more health-conscious alternatives. My point is, this place is awesome! To those that work at Cafe Phoenix, thank you again. To the owners, please consider opening a second location in Stanislaus County. read more
