My friend and I are big soup fans so we decided to try the clam chowder and chicken noodle soups and were given a choice of crackers, bread, or cheddar bacon biscuit. Um, duh...the biscuit please! Clam chowder was divine: not too salty as is often the case, creamy and perfect with huge chunks of clams. The chicken noodle was more like a homemade chicken dumpling soup with square flour noodles and a delicious thick broth. Then there were those biscuits. I could eat like 12 of these!! (Not really)They were huge, scone-like and cakey, smoky and savory. So good. The owner/manager/cashier was really friendly and funny. Ordered take out breakfast. I had biscuits and gravy, sausage patties and bacon. The bacon was perfect and exactly crispy enough but not too much. The biscuits and gravy are among the best I have ever consumed. The biscuits were cooked perfectly and had just a hint of sweetness. The gravy was white gravy "Okie style." Cooked perfectly! We also ordered oatmeal which had the ideal texture and flavor. Best oatmeal we've ever enjoyed! Everything was perfectly packed for carry out and was still hot when we got it to the house! Came for lunch and got the chicken pot pie. Where I come from, the dough is placed into the metal form and then wrapped over, or a flap placed over the top. Here, a piece of dough simply rested atop the contents. The sidewalls, nothing. The bottom, nothing. The stew inside was great, though. A nice amalgamation of chicken and veggies. They have a special of the week that will be described on the display case so be sure to look for it. Definitely go for the bag lunch special which includes a full-sized sandwich, drink, side, and a COOKIE for $10.95! The Southwest Chicken salad is delicious, the chipotle dressing is spicy, giving this salad an edge over your typical boring salad. The Gobble Gobble is a turkey sandwich served on a pretzel bun with a cream cheese and cranberry spread. It was good, but could have been better. It needed a little more spice, and probably would have tasted much better if It were served warm instead of cold. The BLT is not your grandmother's sandwich! It is served on marble rye, and it is highly recommended that you have it served with peanut butter which give it a smooth, rich flavor and texture that you don't get with your average BLT. Expected better from reviews. They were out of 3 of the first 5 things we ordered (mac and cheese, white bread, and fruit cup). My Bruschetta Chicken sandwich was small for the $9 price, but the bread and mozzarella was yummy. My teens liked their shrimp wrap, pot pie, and Gobble-Gobble sandwich. Cafe Moxo was crowded this Saturday at lunchtime. The space is bright and well-restored, the menu is large and offers a little something for everyone. The employees I encountered were friendly and informative, offering recommendations when I asked for them and helping me find utensils when they spotted me wandering around aimlessly. I ordered a half wrap and soup combo and selected The Hummus Among Us and chicken noodle soup. The wrap had a good flavor, though I couldn't taste much hummus. The soup was REALLY good, with huge homemade noodles and a delicious broth. I also got a chocolate chip cookie that was perfect in every conceivable way. Big and soft, with huge chunks of chocolate. Yum. I wish Cafe Moxo was in MY town, because I still want to try their grilled cheese, mac & cheese, and chicken pot pie, and get my hands on some more of those cookies! I purchased two salads from Café Moxo both salads were wrong. Two of the dressings where bad and smelt fowl. The other two were not the right kind. The lettuce along with some of the apples were brown . This is not the first time they have messed up my order, but I thought I'd give them another try. So if you don't mind spending money on a salad that you have to eat without dressing and have to pick the bad parts out of it I highly recommend trying this place! I used to really enjoy eating breakfast here but they changed the breakfast menu so it's less vegetarian friendly. The build your own breakfast sandwich with an option of mushrooms is gone. If you get the eggs with mushroom, it comes with a bacon biscuit as a side. There should be a vegetarian substitute and an option to substitute the meat on the new sandwiches. read more

Even though our trip to Springfield was only for a day, it took just one bite of the pot pie to know I had to come back to Cafe Moxo a second time before leaving. The menu is simple but out of this world. Hearty food that somehow doesn't leave you feeling heavy and regretful as you walk around town. Their breakfast burrito is masterfully constructed with everything you could possibly want cooked to perfection. And if that weren't enough, the cookies may be the best in town--like what you would expect if this were just a bakery that specializes in cookies. But no, Cafe Moxo doesn't cut corners with any part of their menu. And the people there were as friendly as could be. Midwestern kindness is a bit of a stereotype, but I couldn't help but think of it when talking to the people who work there. It may be natural charm, it may be just years of experience dealing with tourists, but everyone knows how to make you feel welcome. I was looking for a (non-chain) lunch place to grab some soup and a sandwich before heading out of town. After a quick Yelp search, I decided on Cafe Moxo. I ordered the tomato basil soup, the "Bella" grilled cheese (because I love mushrooms), and an espresso drink. It was pretty okay, but nothing to write home about - the tomato soup didn't have a whole lot of basil flavor, the texture of the hummus wasn't great with the cheese, and there were onions on the sandwich which weren't advertised on the menu. I also don't think I would have been filled up if I had just gotten the half-sandwich/soup combo, which is a shame; for this type of meal, I would rather pay $15 or less per person, but a full sandwich + soup + drink put me over that amount. That said, maybe I didn't order their best combination of soup + sandwich. Maybe I should've tried one of the soup + salad combos instead, I don't know. For those who live/work in downtown Springfield, I can see how Cafe Moxo would be a convenient little place, especially since you can order online and pick it up without too much of a fuss. If I'm passing through Springfield again, I might stop by again if I'm in the downtown area. For now, my experience was serviceable but unremarkable. read more

If I lived here in Springfield I'd probably rave about Cafe Moxo, like the locals do. But, I'm not from here, and I'm spoiled and know better. So, I have to say, it's AVERAGE. Tasty sandwich, but AVERAGE PORTION. Cutesy "Lunch bag special" or something like that which included the AVERAGE portion sandwich, AVERAGE tasting SLAW, an AVERAGE sized cookie, and a drink. $8.50 = eh,.. an AVERAGE deal. Ugh why am I so obsessed with this place! Amazing food and amazing service. You must try the pot pie, bag lunch, or my favorite the Shakespeare salad. The cookies are to die for ... Seriously! I prefer the gluten free cookie but don't pass up that chocolate chip goodness. The parking is pretty easy to find and I can usually find a seat no matter what time I go. I prefer to sit outside and enjoy their food and free wifi. If they ever make your order wrong which they have only done once to me.... They will fix it immediately and usually apologize with a free cookie! I wish they stayed open later so I could hang out on my laptop and enjoy their food longer but downtown Springfield can be pretty dead after 5pm so I understand. The only thing going for this spot is the location. I met a girlfriend here for lunch (her suggestion) so out of politeness, I kept my opinions to myself but the salad I ordered at this spot was inedible. I ordered the asian chicken salad. Everything was wrong with it. The grilled chicken was tasteless, they piled on too many raw red onions (and I am a red onion fan), the dressing was too salty, and the mandarin oranges (which along with the dressing, was I guess what made the salad "asian" ) were straight from the can and just piled on top of a bed of terrible tasting lettuce. How you get bad tasting lettuce is beyond me. I ordered a root beer. They just hand you a can, no cup of ice. It is cafeteria style (order your food, get food at cash register) so no comments on service. It is a decent looking place--modern, clean, which makes its poor menu (at least what I tried) kind of surprising. read more

When it came to planning our lobby day trip to Springfield this year and what we should serve our 170 participants for lunch, Café Moxo's boxed lunches were the overwhelming favorite choice! From our staff and others who frequented Springfield, Café Moxo was known to be a sure bet for delivering on taste, value, and excellent customer service! While there were many details, stresses, and challenges that came with planning for our event, it was a relief to know that Manager Mike Zengilani was there from the beginning to ensure that our lunch would be a success. He took the time to answer all my questions, explain the menu options and the delivery location, and forgive my last minute order changes. He really made a custom order for us that was personalized to fit our needs and our budget. We were so impressed that Mike and his staff were on time with our delivery, incredibly friendly, and helpful in explaining to our group what each of the box lunches contained. With their help, we were able to serve everyone quickly so that they could board the buses and hit the road back to Chicago on schedule. Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians were satisfied with the array of sandwiches that they were offered, including the Knick Knack (ham, turkey, bacon), the Hummus Among Us (chicken breast, roasted red pepper hummus, tomato chunks), the Gusto (fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil pesto and drizzled balsamic glaze on Focaccia). The sandwich names were catchy and super flavorful and tasty! In addition to a sandwich, there were also chips, a pasta salad and a cookie included in the box lunch. Moxie puts the Spring in Springfield. After a busy morning meeting nearby, I hosted some clients to lunch, as long as they picked the place. Cafe Moxo was the locale for some to-go love, and boy did it deliver (even though we carried out). A combo lunch includes a few tasty extra morsels, such as a cookie. Since Moxo is also a fabulous bakery, the extra calories are worth it. I went for the "Hummus Among Us" sandwich, which was tasty and shook the blues of the airport food I was forced to ingest over the past few days. I finished my bag of chips before I got my sandwich. When the grilled cheese did arrive it was a bit burnt. I believe a sandwich called grilled cheese should have lots of cheese. This cheese was meager. The cookie was pretty good. Place seems fairly clean and popular. Originally I ratex at three however I went back up to get a cookie and was asked how my lunch was. This is an awesome place that fills a dire void for attractive and inventive lunch places in Springfield. The people who work there are incredibly wonderful. We showed up 10 minutes before closing time, and they let us stay over an hour past their closing time and continued to fill our coffee (and they even made more for us!!!). I come to Cafe Moxo often as I work downtown and it's incredibly convenient. It is also incredibly delicious!!!! I love the Medley and frequently choose the Half Bag Lunch and ask them to put it on croissant for me (which they do bc they are so nice!!!). It never disappoints! Any of their soups are delicious, their cookies are to die for, the breakfast is super yummy - literally a great place with great people working there. I deduct a star for 1 reason: the $5 delivery fee. not a fan of that, especially with a $10 min. But it never stops me from visiting! :) read more
