Stopped here for breakfast as it was recommended by the Airbnb owner. It was about 10an when we got there and seemed kind of crowded . I wanted outdoor seating so she I put my name in the waiting list. I asked if the 3 tables outside were it. She said yes and said 20 mins and handed me the electronic device to alert us. We sat and waited outside while seeing if any of the tables were freed up. Fifteen mins Later one was available so we sat. When a waitress came by she asked if we were on the wait list, I said yes and showed her the electronic device, it had not alerted us. No one who came before us was waiting for the outside tables. She came back and said ok but we needed to place the order inside. That part was not clearly displayed, I later saw it on a chalk board . I placed my order and waited. It didn't take very long, they brought our coffee first . Cups were nice and large and coffee was good .they didn't ask what type of creamer so I guess they didn't have non dairy but it's ok. Food came and we had the banana bread French toast and the Mio eggs . Both were delicious and we did get refills on our coffee. Outstanding locally grown burgers and the service is excellent.

One of my good friends recommended this place for us to go to. He was definitely right, this place is good. It's kind of in the middle of no where but definitely worth the effort to get there. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. They were really good and the ingredients were fresh. It's probably because they get their ingredients from local farms around the area. I thought that was pretty cool. My friends ordered the Apple French Toast, and the others got burgers. The atmosphere was great and the service was on point too. Awfully sweet "lavender london fog" and "chai" latte. The lavender fog taste nothing of lavender or black tea but of a very mild typical chai tea flavor and a pound of sweetener. The Chai latte taste nothing like a good spiced authentic chai but was slightly stronger in flavor than the fog latte. The almond croissant was also another heart attack of sweetness so we opted out of ordering any further for fear of getting a cavity from the next item we would have ordered. Great atmosphere and good music. It is a cozy place. I got the French toast and my husband got the eggs and cheese with toast. I am not a big egg eater but normally love French toast . Their French toast was way to "eggy" to me. I could not even get through a quarter of it. If you like eggs though you would like it. The syrup and all the whip cream on top helped it but it was still disappointing y husband liked his eggs. I also got a vanilla chai tea latte which was good. The waitress knew I did not like my meal at all but didn't really seem to care. You can also order lunch anytime which I did not know. I wish I was told that because I would have picked a lunch item. They also have a specials menu on the wall which I also didn't see until heard someone talking about it. This is a solid little cafe. A lot of local items and soups. I did not use it for a while because they had weird vaccine info on a black board and some waiters were die hard maskers... that being said the ambiance is always nice and there are a lot of locals that eat there . It is really one of the only games in Gardiner. No wifi and all of Gardiner is pretty much a black out zone so just chill with the vibe. Nice thin cut fries, and I really enjoy their teas and soups. Although it is cramped and you feel a bit rushed, the ambience is cool, the service is excellent, and the food is outstanding. I don't typically post reviews, but felt I need to get the word out. Today was a particularly busy day and our wait was about 45 min (though we were told less). Finally we were offered seating at the bar because the hostess said the wait for a table could be longer. The very next couple was given our table . Sitting at the bar did prove enlightening though. I ordered the special coffee drink, a Hazelnut Latte, extra hot. It arrived neither hot nor hazelnut. We watched, stunned, as the cooks touched every omelette, fried egg, French fry and the like with their bare hands....completely unnecessarily (ever heard of tongs or a spatula????). The only cook with a glove on was scooping salad. After waiting over an hr to eat, we were ready to take our chances....BIG mistake! My husband's ham & cheese omelette came burned....the cook must've thought himself clever as he flipped the burned side to the inside of the omelette, however the first bite revealed everything....not at all worth the $17+ price tag. My dish, The Mio Breakfast, arrived looking presentable, but was missing dressing for the greens. The only bright spot in our experience was the cheerful server. This place is hopping for breakfast on the weekends! Reservations are recommended, especially if you are coming with a big crowd. That said, if you get there for opening, you should be okay. There is counter space to sit at and we had no problem getting a table for 2 right at 9am. By 10am - there was a wait. My friends and I used to drive out to New Paltz for a good bite to eat so I am happy to report that is not needed with the arrival of Cafe Mio to the area! Cafe Mio are serving up all of your breakfast staples - egg dishes with toast and assorted meats (sausage, bacon) and nice thick slices of artisanal bread with butter to accompany. I also love that they have a lightly dresses salad to balance out the fried potatoes :) The sweeter breakfast fare like apple french toast and pancakes are also of plentiful proportion. What can I say? Deelish! Everything, start to finish was just great. The mini-mall style storefront restaurant is very cute. About 12 tables. Nice selection of micro brews in bottles. The breakfast items looked super, we chose from the lunch menu; sausage and peppers, soups, falafel, etc all nicely prepared. What can I say about Cafe Mio, I wanted to like it but came away feeling it lacked balance . It is a trendy small restaurant with a lot of eclectic flair with casual seating for lunch. The waitress we had was pleasant, greeted us with a smile and let us choose the spot to sit. Looking around at my fellow diners their food looked good and the portions looked generous. The waitress gave us a chilled bottle of water from the tap for the table. They have an unsweetened Iced tea of the day on the menu and today was Lavender flavored. On the chalkboard they list a wide variety of off the menu options including the soup of the day. Today it was curry parsnip soup with toast. It had just a hint of curry flavor which I think could have been brought up a lot more . My lunch companion ordered the Pear, Brie, and Balsamic Panini which came with a lightly dressed oil and vinegar mixed greens on the side. The Brie overpowered any other flavor in the sandwich. I had the seared Ahi tuna wrap, avocado and cucumber with a Wasabi cream dressing that could have been stronger in flavor and the dressing a bit thicker because all of it pooled at the ends when eating it. Additionally the Ahi was centered in the wrap so by the time you get more than half way through each wrap you are left with just the greens and dressing. The casual atmosphere can be a bit too casual, at least with our waitress who delivered our food but failed to ask how things are and if we wanted anything else including a refill of our drinks. The deserts are written on another chalkboard and hold about half a dozen cakes. They sounded good and we were ready to order one, when our waitress showed up with the check and said I'll leave this here for you and walked away. I wanted to like this cafe but found it lacked balance. It all looked appealing to the eyes but as for taste some of it had been overpowering, others deficient in flavor and others not evenly distributed . We stopped by for a bite between pork butt buying at Adams and wine tasting at Whitecliff. One word, Exquisite. The soup. Roasted butternut squash with apples. ($3) for a cup comes with two slices of hand cut soft white bread toast. It was hedonistic vegan. Meatloaf Sando ($11). Perfect 1.5 inch slab of caramelized beef, flecks of carrot and onion, topped with astringent pickled red onion and creamy horseradish. Showered by a mountain of hand cut slim NOT shoestring fries. Goat cheese and oven dried tomato olive panini. Panini was a touch dry on the outside, could have used some lubrication like mayo, but was otherwise incredible. Six layer chocolate cake. This cake was epic. It was like the cake that Pollyanna gets at the fair except that it was chocolate. The most delicious homey tasting perfect chocolate cake ever. I don't even love cake and devoured half of it in bed, right before I fell asleep because I couldn't leave it over night for the ghosts. ($6). Seriously - GO!!! Located near Mohonk preserve and nestled in the cute little town of Gardiner, Cafe Mio served up a tasty lunch. This place is obviously a local favorite as it was filled when we arrived. You can grab a table or seat at the counter. The menu was full of specials ranging from sandwiches, soups, burgers, and even drinks. My friend had the house made ceab cakes on a brioche bun and I had the local beef burger with truffle fries. Everything was delicious and the servings were mighty big for the price. Really wanted to love this place, especially after seeing all the fab menu options and other reviews here and because of it's claims of local. It's a cute place with a great menu, and an even better list of blackboard specials. It was a nasty, rainy afternoon, so we started off with a cup of soup each - potato artichoke and lobster bisque. Both were fresh and tasty, but fell a bit short on the seasoning. I was toying between a local grass fed burger and the steak frites. The waitress steared me toward the steak, as she said it was fanastic, so I was sold. I subsitituted parmesan truffle fries for the regular frites and my husband had an ahi tuna wrap. Both were plated well and looked very tasty. His tuna was done perfectly rare as he requested, but again he felt it lacked seasoning. My steak was overcooked (I ordered rare, it came medium) and though it was tasty, seasoned well and had a nice char, it was an awful piece of meat. Chewy, tough, and full of grissle. I could eat about half of it after I cut away the rubbery parts. My fries were good, not great. I typically love asparagus, but what was served alongside was cooked on the grill and while tasty, they were large and thick. I could only eat about the top half of each one - the bottoms of the stalks were too fibrous. We each had a glass of wine which were reasonably priced and generous pours. We skipped dessert. The service was very good and when I gave my feedback on the steak, she comped our drinks with her apologies, which was really nice, especially since I didn't complain or ask for anything to be done. They do use lots of local farm fresh ingredients, and even list the local farms and suppliers they use, which is a bonus for me. I'll go back and give them another try - perhaps for breakfast and keep my fingers crosseed. read more

I went cafe mio for Saturday late lunch around 2pm. Casual atmosphere, has wide open kitchen. Nice paintings on the wall seems for sale. Generally very laid back and comfortable setting. Some tables were not clean so we had to look for clean table. It wasn't busy, there were one more table was occupied. They displayed daily special on blackboard, it was great selection of menu. I ordered rack of lamb with local vegetable, cream of mushroom soup and my husband ordered BBQ burger with blue fries. Cream of mushroom soup was huge portion but I'm afraid to say it wasn't my style. It wasn't creamy enough for my taste. But still it was decent. My rack of lamb was also huge potion. I knew I won't be able to finish even half. Lamb was good but somewhat very gummy for me. Sautéed vegetable made good balance with lamb. It was okay. BBQ burger was huge portion as well. My husband finished it all. It came with blue fries, it was average. I really wanted to love this place but didn't work for me. Liked their menu selections and concept of using local products. This place was packed on a Saturday afternoon. Someone greeted my wife and I and told us there was a wait for a table, so we just hung around awkwardly in the front area which wasn't really designed to be a waiting area. Some tables started to free up, so I assumed we were going to be seated soon. Someone else came up to us and said they were going to seat us at the window table. The table was occupied, so I thought that was kind of strange. Another couple came in behind us and grabbed an empty table on their own, so I decided to grab another free table to avoid having to wait further. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was a bit on the bland side. The fries were hot and salty, and the best thing on the plate. My wife seemed to think her crab cake sandwich was decent. Everything that I've had here- both for dine-in and takeout- has been amazing! This is probably my favorite local place to eat brunch and catch up with family and friends. Both their lattes and regular coffee are super comforting and not bitter at all. I love that they have a nice selection of vegetarian options, too. I arrived about 1PM on a Saturday with my wife and we brought our dog because we noticed outdoor seating as we have driven by in the past. We noticed the outside seating area was not set up. So we asked and were told there was a bee problem. The sun was out and there was not good shade so the dog had to be left in a car that was too warm which made us have to rush though our meal. After we ordered and our food was served they started serving outside for customers with dogs. We were not asked it we wanted to move. We did not ask to move because we just wanted to hurry up and get out of this place. We both had the spinach, mushroom, and goat cheese omelets and found them tasty but flat and dense...tough... nothing special. My toast was not served until my meal was half finished. I was not offered a refill on my ice tea and again I did not ask because I just wanted to go. My wife's latte was not well prepared. There were flies inside landing on us and trying to land on our food so we were constantly having to wave our hands to protect our food. It was loud. The service was poor. Perhaps this was just a bad day for this place because I see that in general there are good reviews.There are a lot of other places to try in the area so I would hesitate before taking a chance on wasting my time and money for this sort of experience again with this place. I love cute little Hudson Valley restaurants. Situated right in the center of town, this place definitely doesn't scream "rustic" from the outside, but when you walk in it's completely homey. We sat at the bar where all the action in the open kitchen is. The ingredients are fresh and local, and the food came out quickly. Simple, homemade fare- I got the spinach mushroom goat cheese omelet and was satisfied with the amount of cheese my omelet had. The portions are huge! Waitresses are great too.
