We recently celebrated a colleague's retirement at Cafe Amore, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the experience! From the very beginning, Michael was an absolute pleasure to work with. I shared my vision for the event, and he made it happen seamlessly. Every detail was handled perfectly, allowing us to simply enjoy the celebration. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the staff was attentive and friendly, and the food was outstanding. Everything tasted incredibly fresh...from the salads and appetizers to the delicious pizzas. Every dish was prepared to perfection and enjoyed by all of our guests. The BYOB option was a bonus and made the event even more enjoyable and affordable for our group. Another review described Cafe L'Amore as a hidden gem, and it really is. The location is nondescript, but the food is anything but. We had soup (chicken barley, Stracciatella), fresh bread right out of the oven, the stuffed artichoke appetizer (not to be missed!), lamb shank risotto (which I had on pappardelle instead, and would highly recommend), short rib ragu, and tiramisu were all homemade, and so fresh and flavorful. This was my first visit. I live 40 mins away and will now make the trip regularly, I'm sure. :-) read more

OMG What excellent food at this cozy restaurant. You can tell when someone takes pride in the taste, preparation and presentation of a dish! The short ribs and risotto are excellent. My partner and I came to Cafe L'Amore for our anniversary this week. We had been here a few years ago with his parents and remembered how great the food was. Well, the restaurant has stayed consistent because we had a fantastic dinner. Everything we ordered was from the specials menu. We started with a shrimp appetizer. It was deliciously spiced with the perfect amount of heat that didn't overwhelm the flavor. He had a lamb osso buco tossed with pappardelle; I ordered veal scaloppini with asparagus. The chef and/or owner was very hospitable and genuinely friendly, which made us feel at home. Incredible food with really friendly staff. What more could anyone want? read more

I am not a local, but I am in the area regularly and always order from Cafe L'Amore. My daughter can't get enough of the Chicken Parmesan, and this is what she wants for her birthday dinner. As a salad person the fresh homemade Caesars salad is wonderful! So when I was planning a surprise party there was only one place to go. They helped me choose a balanced menu with something for everyone. The guest of honor loves the veal saltimbocca and now so does everyone else who attended. But it is not just the food and delicious bread it is the people and the owner. He is always busy but never to busy to say "hi". Thanks for making us feel like family! read more

We pulled up for a 7:30 reservation, and a nice young man was there to valet our car. We were warmly greeted. This is a BYB, so we had Compari spritzs, the waiter supplied seltzer and lemons. Appetizers consisted of stuffed hot peppers. They were fantastic if you like a little heat. The house salds were perfectly dressed and very tasty! ( they are huge get one for two people) we ordered Papardelle with Bolognese sauce and Tagliatelle & White clam sauce . Both were extremely flavorful and excellent. The pasta were perfectly cooked al dente. The White Clams sauce pasta was one of the best I've ever had. Fresh small clams! Garlic and white wine! Everything went excellent with a bottle of Tuscan whine brought back from San Germiano. No desert this time, we wrre stuffed! Although it looked great! The owner was super friendly and gracious. Cafe La More is one of those spots that makes you want to come back after the first visit. It has a cozy, romantic vibe without feeling too formal, the kind of place that works just as well for a date night as it does for catching up with friends. The food is the real star. Their pasta tastes fresh and homemade, and the sauces actually have depth (not the bland, watered-down kind you get at a lot of places). I tried the penne vodka, and it was creamy, rich, and perfectly seasoned. The pizza is another must thin, crispy crust with just the right chew, and toppings that feel thoughtfully put together rather than piled on. This is the REAL DEAL! Some of the best homemade Italian dishes (and American dishes as well) that I have ever experienced on the east coast. I am an Italo-phile and have traveled to Italy extensively. That is (just one of) the reason(s) why I know REAL Italian cuisine (not a hodgepodge that attempts to pass as such). Food is heavenly, staff & service are impeccable, prices are very reasonable, and parking is easy. You really can't beat this place! Please believe me that I have actually considered relocating to New Jersey just so that I can frequent this cafe-restaurant on a daily basis. Co-owner Marco greats the many repeat customers like old friends, and the other customers like new friends. We've come here twice, once during off time when we were the only table. And another time on valentines day when it was packed. On the latter occasion it took a little while to get seated, as they did what they could to seat everyone in a somewhat timely manner without rushing the other customers. Excellent pizza (nice light puffy margherita style crust, their margherita pizza is excellent, the Alla Puttanesca was also outstanding) and appetizers. I want to preface that I've ordered from here before with no issue but Sunday ( Valentine's Day) I ordered take out through Grubhub and noted that my dish needed to be gluten free. I even asked the man at the counter if they saw my note and the dish was made gluten free including the side pasta. He got snippy with me and said I would know the difference between the pastas. Well I got home started to eat my chicken dish and pasta and about 1/4 way through I found regular spaghetti noodles in my gf penne pasta. I immediately stopped eating as it was clear they reused the same pasta water they cooked their regular pasta in. It is now Thursday and I am still feeling the after effects of being glutened - I got pretty sick not long after and Monday was in so much pain and sick it was awful. I hate to write reviews like this but if I can help another GF person avoid this I feel I need to share this feedback so hopefully someone sees it and management and the chefs can fix this for the future. read more

I ate here for the first time earlier in the week. Had the pizza. Perfectly cooked, thin and full of flavor. I wanted to try something else so I went back a couple of days later and had the Penne with Vodka sauce, chicken parm and the homemade bread...AMAZING!!! Cafe L'Amore is a gem!! We walked in for lunch and were so warmly greeted by the owner Mark. We had just come from hiking in Ramapo State Park which is only 1.5 miles away and although we were dressed in hiking clothes, he welcomed us right into the dining room. The food was outstanding as was the service. We had wood-fired pizza and clams in white wine sauce. They were both outstanding. The bread is warm and delicious. Although we do not live close by, we will be back next time we are hiking or driving by on 287. read more

I am not a local, but I work in Oakland a few times a month. Cafe L'Amore is always worth stopping by. They treat you like family. They are so warm and friendly. You are always greeted with a smile. The food is always fresh, delicious and quality. I love the Chicken Piccata but their pizza is also amazing. I find myself stopping in for just the fresh baked bread to bring home as well.
