They have the right equipment, use it perfectly, and the dolsot bibimbap had the most incredible rice crust I've ever tasted. 4 stars for the cucumber/radish banchan and the rest of the bibimbap ingredients. These two banchan were nice and crunchy, and all the vegetables and beef in the bibimbap were nice and fresh, if not super special. 3 stars for the remaining banchan. The cabbage was too soggy for my taste, the pancake slices were lukewarm and squishy, and the other ones were nondescript. Came in here for dinner with some friends and had a great dinner with amazing service. We ordered some appetizers. The steamed Mandu dumplings and the Kimbop. Both were very tasty. For the entrees, we ordered the Bibimbap on the hot sizzling stone bowl. The ingredients taste great and they give you a squeeze bottle for the hot sauce. Our meal also came with a ton of mini sides. Um can I just have a constant flow of this to my mouth, please?! It was amazing! Very sweet but then again, why are you ordering sweet tea if you don't like it sweet?! Very yum. We tried the steamed mandu, which was very good, but not out of this world. You enjoy gyoza? Then you'll like this. The sauce that it comes with is definitely good. The crab Rangoon?! Delicious! Get it. It's so yum! They bring out complimentary kimchi and other pickled veg too! The scallion pancake was delicious as well. You really can't go wrong here. Everyone ordered different types of bulgogi, (chicken, beef, pork), and each variation was superb. We also had the fried rice, which was standard. It cost $100 to feed 7 people. So it averages about $15 per person, which is awesome for the amount of food. And really, probably less because we just wanted to try everything!! The service was spectacular!! When walking in it seems rather small, but don't let this place fool you. They can accommodate big parties!! Definitely a must try! The restaurant is clean and there is lots of seating even when the parking lot looks crazy full. Try the pork bulgogi. It has a great taste and the pieces are small and easy to eat. I'll start by saying that the decor, is the only part of our visit, that deserves 5 stars. It is quite adorable. We had a party of 6, and we called ahead to make sure they could accommodate. Apparently, even though we were told, "yes", the answer should've been a resounding, "NO!" All of the orders were simple, and nothing needed to be altered from what the menu stated. The failures started with drinks. The older gentleman who was waiting on us, was annoyed from the start. He gave us the "hurry up hands" while we told him our drinks. No one was indecisive or slow, he was just in a hurry. When the food arrived, the broccoli was stone cold, the rice was crunchy, and my husband, who had ordered their chicken teriyaki, was given beef bulgolgi. The gentleman, not knowing my husband is Korean, told him it was the same thing. Laughable. We also ordered an extra order of crab rangoons for one of the kids. Three times. It didn't make it to the table until the place was shutting down. The older gentleman brought it to us in a "to go" bag. Then, he began clearing the table and sighing, all while we were still eating, because of their slow and incompetent service! Absolutely avoid this place. Great experience for dinner! I live in Austin and found myself in town for work... not too many options when you have a dairy and beef allergy. Asian of some sort is usually the route to take! So, found myself at Cafe Korea and have quite a nice experience. I took off one star because the sauce on my chicken, shrimp and broccoli did not taste homemade and was not the consistency I would like. Seemed like a gel. Stopped at Café Korea for an early dinner on a Friday while in St. Robert, MO. How shocked was I to see a Korean restaurant in the middle of nowhere? They have a few tables outfitted with grills for do it yourself KBBQ but I opted for a regular table. This was a good choice because most of the KBBQ tables were still dirty from lunch. I will say the waitress started cleaning them as I sat down. I asked what was in the Kimbap before I ordered it and ordered an order of Kimbap and a Dolsot Bibimbap. When my waitress described the Kimbap I never heard crab stick but when it came there was a big crab stick down the middle of it. I ate 2 pieces and was over it since I just don't like fake crab under any circumstances. It was put together correctly though. They set down 7 plates of Banchan along with the Kimbap. The best ones were the fish cakes (my favorite), the 2 bites of jeon, the 2 tiny pieces of kimchi, and the kimchi cucumbers. I didn't ask for seconds but the kimchi portion was extremely small. I'm sure they have a lot of waste though. When my Dolsot Bibimbap came out I was pleasantly surprised! The dolsot bowl was scalding hot and the rice was crisping up and there was bulgogi, runny egg, greens etc. I let it sit for a few minutes before I mixed so the rice could crisp up some more and the whole thing could cool off and I could finish some of the banchan. Oh, also they brought a little cup of egg drop soup with the meal. It was OK. It matched a few of the Americanized Chinese dishes on the menu. I was surprised to see it since everything else was really pretty authentic. Typically you'd be served a red broth (kimchi) Korean soup or a Doenjang bean soup with a meal. I ate every bite of the bibimbap and loved it! This was by no means the best Korean food I've ever had (having been to Seoul 2 times) but probably better than half of the Korean meals available in St. Louis. Way to go! Cafe Korea, a fitting name for a restaurant that represents legitimate, traditional Korean food and offers anything from bulgogi, galbi, and soon dubu for people who know what's REAL food to sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken for those who would rather stick to Americanized comfort food. The service is second to none and the prices of the generously portioned dishes are definitely worth the $8-9 you pay! They also have the lunch special which is only about $8, which gives you a bento box, but I would honestly just recommend the galbi (although a little pricier, being around $15 or so). You will not regret it! The chap chae (a fairly large Korean noodle dish) was great, and the yaki mandu (similar to dumplings) were also very complimentary to the galbi we ordered, leaving us very much satisfied and our stomach's in bliss. For under $10, you can get a Chicken, Pork or Beef Bulgogi, or a great Bento style combo box. I opted for the pork, while my coworkers went with the beef. All the meals are served with sides of Kimchi and other Korean goodies in little bowls. The food came out pretty quickly for a lunch crowd. This last time I went we literally stood at the door for at least 5 min with each waitress looking at us but without any acknowledgement. My husbands meal was missing an egg roll and neither of our boxes had dressing (also included). The food was not horrible but, first of all, it's a big no-no to put a metal spoon in boiling hot soup when you serve. Well, not just because the spoon will burn your mouth(duh), but also it's very disrespectful to Koreans because you only do that when you prepared food for ancestors who passed away. We ordered jeon, kimchi soup, and spicy soft tofu soup. Jeon was very bland and tasteless. Kimchi soup was quite alright but it wasn't great. Spicy soft tofu soup was also just okay. It was supposed to be seafood soft tofu soup, but I could hardly find any seafood. Some shrimp and sad clam meat was everything. And most of all poor service. The server didn't bring out banchan when the main entree was served. I had to ask her if they are going to bring them out. She never refilled our water nor our banchan. Also, she didn't mention that we have to bring our check to the cashier. I was born and raised in Korea, and I know that's how it is in Korea.
