Shrimp tempura
Garland W.

This is a small no frills little diner. I got their chicken and shrimp combo bento and shrimp tempura on the side. Portions were decent. Flavor wise the bento was kind of lacking. I had to add several packs of soy sauce to my rice and chicken to give it just enough saltiness to enjoy. The shrimp tempura was like something you buy from your grocery store freezer and heat up. Overall it's a still a nice pit stop off the highway for lunch when passing through the town of Rolla.

Decided to spoil myself for lunch and try something new. Close to campus, friendly and quick! Food was great! I already want to go back to try more items.

To be honest, I'm not sure how we found this restaurant. I didn't find it on a restaurant list in Rolla, and my friend found it, but I will say that it was exactly what we all wanted. We had four people come to this restaurant for the first time on a weekday afternoon. The restaurant has very little seating, so I would treat it primarily as a take out spot, if possible, though there were a few small tables. The format of the restaurant is quick service, in that you place your order on a kiosk in the restaurant and they fill your order. Even if you eat in the restaurant, the order is delivered in takeout containers in a bag, along with plastic ware and soy sauce and duck sauce packets. The food was impressively tasty and quick. It happened that we ordered four different things, including poke bowl, two bento boxes, one with chicken and one with shrimp. The last person ordered chicken teriyaki with extra tofu. I was impressed that all four dishes could be made in such a short time, because they were all prepared in front of us. In fact, if you have ever gone to a teppenyaki restaurant where the chefs do the performance over the grill, that's kind of what they're doing there, only it's not for show. The food was hot and tasty. I would definitely recommend the extra tofu, which was a nice, tasty, slightly crispy addition. Also, the teriyaki with rice and extra tofu felt like a three or four poun meaning that there was an immense amo food for one person. The bento boxes also appeared attractive and tasty. Of all the dishes, I would probably recommend slightly against the poke bowl if you are accustomed to ordering from poke restaurants, and the reason is that you don't pick out a dozen toppings like you do at those places. There is a pre-set number of about five toppings in the bowl, so you might feel disappointed if you're accustomed to being entitled to more. However, it was quite delicious as well. The restaurant also offers bubble tea and red bean tea for about $5 per glass and you can customize the amount of sugar you want. Next time I totally want to try the sushi burrito, so l plan a trip back already. Definitely try this spot. It's a great addition to Rolla's restaurant landscape.

Billboard above the parking lot. Hiro Bento is fast food.

Summary: Well made Japanese fast food. Despite the Hiro Bento billboard above the parking lot asking if you're tired of fast food, the restaurant pretty much is fast food. There's counter ordering and meal pick-up and quick prepped meals. That's fast food, isn't it? My beef bento box was filling. It included flavorful beef strips atop a bed of rice, two fried spring rolls, three fried dumplings, and a small portion of cucumber salad. All were terrific. Hiro also offers teriyaki dishes, noodle plates, and poke bowls. The small dining room was comfortable. However, judging by the steady stream of walk-in college students, Hiro Bento does a brisk take-out business. One complaint: my request for ice water was rejected with an instruction to buy bottled water (at an inflated price).

Beef bento box, lots of rice underneath, good lunch size

I really wanted to try this place cus it had pretty good reviews and was a new spot. The inside is super cute and clean. There was barely any wait for me when I went around 1pm. I ordered the beef bento box which was good but not amazing, shrimp poke bowl for my friend and she said it was good, and got the sweet and sour chicken kids meal with fried rice. It's honestly a decent amount of food for the price you pay. It would be better if there were more meat. Overall, I had a good experience. Quick, decently priced, and looked clean so made me feel more at ease eating the food! Definitely worth trying.

Poke bowls were pretty good and not terribly expensive. They get a lot of student and take off traffic but wasn't too busy for lunch. There are 2 or 3 tables only so if you plan to dine in I would play it by ear. Drinks are only al la carte..

This was a good experience! They were fast and friendly, and the food was wonderful. The dumplings were my favorite. The only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is because we sat inside and the dining area is very small with only three tables. I highly recommend it for takeout!

The food was amazing, the service was timely and the ambiance was serene. I would definitely recommend this place for its bento boxes alone.

Excellent! I highly recommend Hiro. Poke bowl was perfect in portion. Made fresh and rather quickly.

Greasy food. Soggy salad, spring roll not fried well. Meat over rice , making the rice soggy too. I won't buy it again.
