The restaurant is right across Omni hotel. It's a small cute restaurant tucked in with other stores in the block. We had a really helpful waiter who went through all the menus with us and what the difference between each enchiladas were since I wasn't sure which one I wanted to order, and what was popular at the restaurant. We had flautas for appetizers and it was crispy and delicious, it was hot that we knew it came right out of the fryer. The enchiladas were also cheesy and delicious. My friend also enjoyed the steak fajitas as well. I wouldn't say it's the best Mexican restaurant I've had but the flavors were there and would definitely recommend it. read more

Cafe Herrera is another restaurant located next to the Omni, and as I understand it Omni owns this place as well. I appreciate them having a variety of dining options for guests. We stopped in for lunch and ordered the shrimp enchiladas which comes with rice & beans and the chicken tinga nachos. The nachos are huge and more like tostadas, which our server did inform us. The enchiladas were tasty and so were the rice & beans. What I appreciated the most was that the food/plate was piping hot. You know how sometimes you go to a restaurant and the plate is hot but not the food? Yeah yall know what I'm talking about. I don't even know how that happens. Besides the point here though. I was informed that the nachos were just okay, but they cured the hunger. The service was lovely and we received a generous discount for the birthday girls special day. When we got there, there was only one other table occupied, so we thought our service would be good, however we didn't get lucky there. Stoped in here for an early dinner. Hopeful for a great Mexican expeienrce, really enjoyed the openness of this space, surrounded by windows and natural light. We got there and it was basically empty, other than 2 tables. It was clearly slow with waiters waiting around, so I would have expected better service. The waiter never took a drink order, only came to ask what we'd want for food, and never returned to check up on us. In Dallas for a conference at Kay Bailey. There's a parking garage in walking distance, but they are across from the Omni. Service was good. My server was prompt and attentive, even when it was crowded. It's not a big restaurant. I ordered the fajitas and they did not disappoint. The gauc is also very tasty and well seasoned. If you are staying at the Omni or any nearby hotel, I recommend. They open at 11am so if there is a large convention, I suggest getting there right at that time. read more

This texmex place is not bad. I went here on a late night and had some good service. One of the waiters was really weird with us, but other than that good service. The food itself is pretty good. The tacos I think are there best thing. They have a good fried shell, like an authentic taco should be. Enchiladas are kind of small for my liking, but still tasty. Salsa is pretty dang good! Churros are fantastic! Enough to share for sure! Started with dessert because it was so delicious! LOL! They can leave off the red stuff next time; though I don't recall it have any flavor. Quick service, especially at lunch which is important when you're running to get back to a conference. Sitting at the bar helps too, but I came another day with some colleagues and we were seated at a booth and received fast service. The chips & salsa, really the salsa, is amazing! It tastes like they roast the tomatoes or peppers because you get a hint of it with a very balanced salsa. The 1st day I had it , it was mild. The 2nd day it was spicier. Everyone enjoyed the salsa, even the spicier version. They were impressed with their meals also. I don't have pictures but the nachos are different in that there are larger chips with the ingredients on each chip; maybe 6. It's a large portion. Shrimp fajitas were a hit & 2 people ordered the chicken tacos and liked it. Carne asada was good; wasn't expecting the red sauce on top but it didn't take away from it. It's not spicy or anything. The rice & black refried beans were good. The beans had a tad too much salt but pairing it with the rice evened it out. The 2nd visit I had the brisket enchiladas and was disappointed that there was way more cheese covering them than needed; it made it hard to try taste the brisket. They are also small, a little bigger than a taquito; ok maybe 2 fingers width, maybe... Surprisingly good food & quick service near the convention center that's not too heavy on the pockets. A bit of a late photo dump but on National Taco Day I figured I would represent with an update! I enjoyed returning to Café Herrera over the weekend after attending the Fitness Art and Music experience! This was a fitness festival that takes place annually outside on the Pegasus Lawn. This restaurant was one of the wonderful spots where we had a great discount to stop and get some bites during the day. So myself and a friend took a break after a power packed HIIT class to get a frozen drink and queso blanco. Absolutely delicious! The environment was very lively as well and full of patrons. Sit at the bar and strike it up with new peeps or grab a booth in the back. Our server was sweet and kept checking on us as well and refilling our water and etc. I definitely wish I had more time to dine here! I'll be back to check out more on their glorious menu. read more

Our waiter even included some extra chips and salsa with our leftover dinner. When in Texas I always order queso. It was delicious. The salsa was good, too. I had the Carne Asada tacos. They're 3 small street tacos but full of flavor. The tortilla was especially delicious. I asked for the sauce on the side, which I'm glad because it had a unique and somewhat overpowering flavor. I also added some of the queso, which made it perfect. I wish you could mix and match the tacos or get a taco trio of different kinds. Not impressed by the cocktail menu, so asked our waiter if we could order spicy margaritas upon request. Added top shelf Don Julio to those. Waiter was kind about this request. Going forward, this is a definite no for us. Visiting this location was a reminder of why my family and I choose to avoid the downtown Dallas area. Pretty restaurant inside, it's located at the Omni Hotel complex, so that should say something about the area, ambience, and the difficulties in finding accessible parking that doesn't cost as much as one of the plates you get at the restaurant. The food was decent, we had the fajitas with cactus, the combo, which was $21.00 just for that. Cactus was good, chicken was decent. None of the items on the cast iron plate were charred very much at all. It wasn't even sizzling when it came out, and the cast iron plate wasn't really hot at all. The portion size for the cost was extremely small. I've paid less at Compazano's and had a fajita plate twice the size. Tho again, this is a hotel side restaurant so menu it's are limited even tho the prices are not. What was there tasted well. The chips and salsa were ok. The chips are on the thicker side and came out stale. We had a second bowl come out, and it was more of the same stale chips that were room temperature. Not impressed at all, it's a simple thing to warm them up to remove the humidity that they soak up, thus removing some staleness. They warm up the flour tortillas for the fajitas but can't seem to warm up the most common staple at a Tex-Mex location. Now, the cherry on the cake of disappointment, ... The outstandingly horrible service!!! The gentleman that started with us was kind enough but had a rushed and inconvenienced tone about him. Our first time there, it seemed rushed to get us to order. Ordered tea and it was just plopped down, AND had no ice, it was a room temperature like the chips. He hovered, waited, asked, we finely ordered than never saw him again at our table. He did end up at the bar mixing drinks for some patrons which may have been his friends, as he was gladly talking and laughing with them. We need things, had to get up and ask someone else. Had one older gentleman leaning against the kitchen pick up window for the entire time we sat, never said anything, never asked anyone if they needed anything or how things were, I assume he was a manager, he did a fine job holding up the wall he was leaning on. The girl that brought our check, which we hadn't asked for nor were we even done eating the meal, dropped it at the table as she literally sped by, not saying a thing. When we were ready to leave, it was an investigative feat to find anyone that would help run the card to pay of the meal, even that was filled with a rushed rudeness with very little interaction nor any effort to see if we wanted anything else or to even see how our experience was. The experience and food quality was not good. The only redeeming feature of this whole visit was the fajitas were decent and filled our bellies. We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant which is ten steps out Omni hotel's door. This is one of the places where customer service and good food still coexist, something many restaurants lack these days. We were greeted with big smiles, water was brought to us quickly, and our server was delightful. The tables were a tad aged, but the restaurant was clean and decorated nicely. The food was the highlight! The hot sauce wasn't too hot and had an authentic flavor to it. We ordered the queso blanco, which was a hearty serving, rich, and flavorful. We also shared a side of beans and the chicken flautas. Omg! The flautas were cooked to perfection! They had the most flavorful chicken inside which was slightly moist and crispy on the outside. Perfect! The tortilla that wrapped the chicken had a distinct flavor, almost like a homemade tamale. Ridiculously good! My husband had a mojito, which they actually got "right" too. Often bartenders mix them up too sweet and syrupy tasting, but this one had a perfect balance of alcohol and sweetness. Of course the muddled mint leaves in it gave it that freshness. We shared our meal because we saw the Mexican vanilla ice cream that we had to try and we were so glad we did. They served us four scoops of richness! The server asked if we wanted cinnamon on top. We said yes, and had the chocolate syrup on the side. The ice cream was SO good, which topped off the perfect meal and dining experience. We are so glad we found this Dallas gem! read more

Not the best downtown location for Tex-Mex unfortunately. Even the guacamole was disappointing. We had to ask our waiter for their world famous complimentary charro beans. If we were dining at their other locations, throughout Dallas, as soon as seated out comes warm complimentary chips, salsa and beans. Lunch menu Monday-Friday $11-16 and $4 soft drinks and iced tea comes with free refills. Our server was extremely apologetic after we asked for the complimentary beans. He provided menu suggestions and told us that the kitchen was out of the avocado salsa at 11:45am....huh? There were many open tables today. Not a big lunch crowd. Easy in and out service. My stars represent their outstanding tomato salsa, chips, and swift lunch service! Thank you. I will not say I won't return for lunch. This location is within close proximity to my office building. First tried Cafe Herreas absolutely delicious tacos at Tacolandia last year and had to come to the restaurant to try them for myself. The tacos were nothing short of how delicious they were at Tacolandia. So full of flavor, realness, and deliciousness! I ended up parking a little ways away as I did not know you could get your ticket validated by the host. I walked in and was welcomed by the hostess and sat at a table where Christina was my waitress. She was nothing short of amazing as she constantly checked up on me and got me extras for my taco she as lettuce, onions and cilantro. They had their barbacoa tacos on special for $3, so I got a couple of those plus a side of beans. The barbacoa tacos were basic looking, but not basic in flavor. The meat had a hint of salt, sweetness, and made me just want to keep eating more and more. The beans were heavy, flavorful, and so yummy. It was difficult to stand up after eating the beans, a taco, and chips and salsa. The habanero salsa that went with the tacos made everything pop so well and went amazingly well with the house salsa and the chips. I got the chance to speak to one of the managers who was so nice and he told me that their house salsa is made fresh everyday. They have no microwaves in their restaurant--wow!! I kept returning here, during my last stay in Dallas at the Omni, because the food, drinks and service were consistently great. Greg at the bar, is a standout server. He made some wonderful food and beverage suggestions and one of the reasons I kept returning and recommending my coworkers visit here as well. The chimichanga with fajita beef I had, was really good with beef that was tender and seasoned well. The chips and salsa were delicious to snack on with a fresh margarita on the rocks. Truly, anything with beef on the menu here looked good. I also tried the fresh shrimp ceviche and it came with big chunks of avocado and whole shrimps. While I never got to try dessert, I saw several tables with the sopapillas and they looked so yummy, but too filling for just one person. read more

My wife and I attended a business conference hosted at The Omni in downtown Dallas. We were tired from our flight and wanted to grab a bite close by. Cafe Herrera is part of the hotel, just a short 2 minute walk thru the lobby and across the venue and you're there. Super convenient... Upon entering m, we were instantly greeted by an older gentleman with a smile from ear to ear. The cafe looked fresh, open and inviting. This was around 3:30 in the afternoon so with the exception of a few patrons at the bar and a few customers sitting at various tables, it was empty. We were seated within 45 seconds of entering. While we were walking to be seated, a waitress had beaten us to the table with chips and two small bowls of fresh salsa! We were then greeted by the bar tender/ server who quickly got us water and took our orders. My wife and I had the Al pastor tacos - which came with 2 tacos, a house salsa, and a helping of Mexican rice with a pinch of pico de gallo on the top. The Al pastor was flavorful & juicy with small chunks of pineapple coupling every bite. Combined with a squeeze of lemon and the house salsa, these tacos were delicious and just the right amount.
