I just had the weirdest experience with the owner of this place. We just moved to the area and I'd heard good things about it so my wife and I went for a much anticipated breakfast. I walked in wearing a mask (which I'm accustomed to doing, even if it's not required anymore, just out of respect). As I was reading the menu board I noticed the owner (I assume he was the owner, might have been an employee... spoke with a Slavic accent) staring at my sweatshirt. I thought maybe there was something on my shirt that was somehow repulsive, forgetting that I'd absent-mindedly thrown on a Bernie Sanders sweatshirt my wife got me last year. (I didn't even vote for Bernie but that's beside the point). I asked if something was wrong, he sort of said no... I asked if my sweatshirt annoyed him, he shrugged and said "I just thought all that was over". I asked if he was referring to politics or to my mask... I tried to joke about making everyone feel welcome. He didn't really answer and proceeded to explain what was on the menu in a very curt way. I couldn't even hear him because I was so dismayed by his comment. I said, "I just have to ask what you mean by you thought all that was over with...". He said "Let's talk about it later. What do you want to order?" By now other employees and patrons were starting to look at me... it was all becoming a bit of a spectacle. So I left. Hey, I don't blame anyone for having political or social points of view, but the owner or employee of a business in any community should never, ever alienate a new customer for an inferred political or social affiliation or practice. I don't know what's up with this guy, but I hope he explains himself. Maybe it was a language barrier or something? At any rate, my wife and I won't return any time soon. Great pastries, food , but the guy at the counter/ register (there are two, ive noticed, one is pretty friendly with good customer service, but that other one should not be dealing with the public. I understand they are Hungarian, and this kind of service was the norm during communism, but those days are gone. Either change your behavior, attitude or stay in the back and don't have contact with customers. A lot of people are turned off by him and refuse to go there. read more

This is a little piece of Europe right here in Norwalk. Nothing fancy, just good food, well prepared and served. A great place to have lunch or coffee, you will be pleasantly surprised by the quiet elegance of the staff, and the care with which they take with the smallest details. My only advice is to order something you can savor instead of coming here with hunger to kill. This is a place to stop and enjoy. You will be satisfied, not stuffed. If you want greasy home fries and overcooked eggs, go to a diner. A Dolce experience is for the person who enjoys quality food and service over a fast dash and gobble. read more

I don't like leaving negative reviews but I really dislike when Yelpers lead me astray, which they did here, so I feel I must set the record straight. The two stars are for the decent latte and the clean, pleasing interior. While I appreciate the cleanliness, an employee mopping the floor with obnoxious smelling bleach while we were trying to enjoy our pastries was extremely off-putting. I may have been able to overlook this if the food had been worth it but, sadly, it was not. My group ordered an array of pastries, cookies, croissants and a crepe. None of it was good. They all tasted and smelled like cheap bakery goods from the supermarket. I don't have a clue how this place is rated so highly. Clearly, none of these people have ever had quality baking. I have been going this place for over a year. Eveything about this place is great. Drink, food, staff and even their customers are great. The only down side is It's a small cafe, so it is harder to get seat if a group of moms have their kids with them. It happens kind often. read more

I'm a few months overdue for this review, but I definitely didn't forget this place. My friends and I stopped here on our way back to the Greater Hartford area to grab a quick bite and some coffee to go, and figured, since it was on the way and we weren't ordering much, it wouldn't take long. We were clearly very wrong about that. First, the customer service is atrocious. It was pretty clear that the folks working there didn't want our business, but, we needed caffeine and were desperate. My friend placed her order for avocado toast and a coffee before me, and I placed an order for the same. Another friend ordered after me, requesting another item (which I can't remember, but know it was more involved than avocado toast). Two of us sat down at the bar table inside to wait, while the first friend went outside to walk her dog. 15 minute go by, then 20, then 30, then 40, and no orders. Mind you, it was moderately busy, but not crazy to the point where we should have been waiting 40 minutes for simple orders. Finally, someone brings over my friend's food (the one that didn't order the avocado toast). I ask him very politely where my order was. He says oh, and five minutes later, brings mine out. I asked him where the first friend's order was, and he proceeds to tell me that it was ready 20 minutes ago, but he didn't see her inside the cafe, so he threw it away. Um, what? I've never heard of a restaurant doing that without attempting to find the customer. So he didn't call out the order, but clearly has impeccable memory and knows exactly what every single person has ordered. Although I know that's quite possible, I found it very hard to believe. At that moment, my friend comes back inside and is like, what's taking so long? I tell her what happened, and she is understandably peeved. We wait another ten minutes, and she FINALLY gets her order. It's literally a slice of avocado toast with a partially cooked runny egg, no seasoning, and some greenery on top. Barely palatable. We left feeling disappointed and hungry. I would never recommend this place. read more

Love the people that work/own this place. The food is great. My latte is excellent every time. The barista listens to me and make my drink hot, I can't drink anything less than 170 degrees and he gets it there without the I can't and he does this without the foam, I don't pay for foam kudos to people who like to drink foam, I'm not sure what one get out of foam. Wonderful service and great coffee. I was in town for the week and desperate to find a place with milk alternatives and a healthy breakfast. I was able to walk from Hotel Zero Degrees each day. I had a wonderful quad shot almond milk latte with hazelnut syrup and a crepe that they were able to customize for me without cheese and were nice about it! Came on Saturday morning. Parking right in front. Small cafe but room to eat in. They had a big variety of crossiants. I got the vanilla pastry cream filled one. It was good. But the crossiant isn't as flaky as a bakery in florida. Decent to come back to try more. They have lots of coffee options and I ordered a matcha latte and he asked if I wanted almond or milk. I LOVE this place! The sandwiches, salads, crepes, pastries, cookies, coffee are all brilliant! Everything is so fresh and delightful. They have a very nice selection of sweets and pastries and it makes you feel like you're in a cafe in Europe. It's a cozy, comfortable spot, not very big but I haven't had a problem with seating yet. The same gentleman is always at the register when I go in, he's sweet. Everything here is amazing. It's such a great spot to pop into regularly and try everything. I enjoy meeting up with friends here because we can take our time and just enjoy the atmosphere and delicious food/drinks. This is one of my new favorite places. read more

I really tried to avoid this 3 star rating but visits two days in a row solidified this rating. Day 1 started with a very rude greeting by the (German) guy at the counter. I asked what the pasta of the day was and he seemed extremely irritated that I was bothering him. I ordered an apple strudel and a panini. I then proceeded to ask what some of the other desserts were (wanting to take some treats to go) and again got snapped at so that ended that discussion. The strudel was fine but not good enough to order again. The panini was hard to finish - I ended up taking the meat out because it just didn't taste good at all. The next morning I decided to give them another try because some of the reviews about this place were so good! I walked in and there was a different guy at the counter. I ordered a cinnamon roll to go, he asked if I wanted anything to drink, I responded no, handed him my card, he inserted it in the machine and walked away from me without word. No thank you. Just walked away. The lady bagging my cinnamon roll finished the transaction. Again, no sense of customer service. I'm amazed people go back. The cinnamon roll was better than the strudel and panini but I did not and will not ever visit this establishment again. I am not sure how long they will stay in business with this level of service. read more

This place is cute and the coffee is pretty good but the owner needs an attitude adjustment. I've been here numerous time with and w/out my significant other and each time I am met with an attitude and ugly facial expressions (and I do mean ugly; balding, blue eyed german?) In any case, I could not keep mum after my last encounter... asking questions here seems forbidden!! Your customers are what keep you going and that includes all customers, whether they contain more melanin than you or not. The food is good. No food, however, is ever good enough to put up with the rude attitudes, condescension and gruffness at this place. They act like they are doing you a favor when you get to the counter and try to place an order. Heaven help you if you don't know what the UNPOSTED/UNLABELED therefore mysterious daily specials/rotating baked goods are because if you dare to make simple inquiry (we're not talking anything remotely close to dithering around undecidedly), they will scowl and literally reprimand you to hurry up. Are we supposed to be psychic? It's unreal. Sometimes when they are slow, the owner/head guy will actually take a moment to interact with you but it's only to see if he can upsell or push more stuff on to your order. It's such a shame because again, the food is good. Nevertheless, real life transactions like this should never consist of bullying your customers and them paying you their hard earned dollars to star for a brief moment in "Soup Nazi - The Bakery Cafe Episode." There are far nicer places to get your tasty calories and after encountering this same nonsense at Cafe Dolce several times, we're tired of this skit and moving on. read more

This was our 1st time. My fiancée and I met with friends and purchased a coffee, chocolate croissant, and a water. Unfortunately for me, I didn't feel like eating a pastry or purchasing an omelette, so I found a leftover banana in my backpack and started to eat it. At that point the OWNER walked up to us and said "Excuse me but you purchase at the counter up there!" It was the most awkward and rudest experience we ever had. Customers around us looked at this interaction in disbelief. First, we already had purchased and paid for our cost per head. already and secondly, how we would have made our own cappuccino and serve it to ourselves in the exact same cup and saucers? Additionally, if they had fruit as an option, I'd have gladly paid the establishment a fee for that. We will absolutely never return here for the way they made us feel. read more

Stopped here for coffee on a road trip. Really awesome coffee shop that has a chill hipster feel. Coffee was really good and they had some awesome pastry items. Wish we could've tried them all but we only had the cookies. The spot itself looks like a good place to work or study. The staff were chill and nice. Seemed like they had a lot of employees there though for a Sunday afternoon. If I'm near the area again, I'll definitely stop in again to try their food and to relax. read more

This independent coffee shop on Main Avenue is a welcome addition to the Silvermine area of Norwalk/Wilton. The coffee is delicious and all the baked goods are made on location without preservatives or chemicals. Try the Boston Creme croissant - you won't regret it! (Well your thighs might) Mom Rating: It can get quite crowded in the mornings so fitting a stroller in can be challenging, but the staff is super friendly and they will help accommodate. No booster seats or high chairs that I saw (management should think about getting some). The noise level is not too bad for sleeping babes. read more
