To say I enjoyed my experience at Cafe De Vienna in beautiful Fairfax county, would be an understatement. This is such a classic location that prides itself on fresh ingredients, a limited menu, but fantastic quality and mastery of the ingredients the cafe utilizes. It's cute, with a decent amount of seating inside and a small patio (but that is probably harder to snag on a nice day!) It's a little pricey but the avocado toast was bright, flavorful and I really enjoyed the balsamic drizzle - it was a good portion size and just tasted fresh and summery! Thank goodness tomato season is back! I think they might make their English muffins in house and the egg sausage and cheese breakfast sandwich was delicious - again just very fresh (nothing ruins a sandwich like stale bread and this tasted like it was made that morning). My cup of coffee was good - not bitter at all, so just a good drip coffee, but the honey latte that we got was just way too sweet for me and borderline to sweet for my husband, which is saying something. What a sweet spot to grab a sweet treat! This little shop is straight out of a classic coming-of-age movie, complete with the little bicycles parked in the lawn out front. We were having lunch at the Sandwich Shop across the street when we noticed families enjoying ice cream under their bright red patio umbrellas and decided to stop in. The owners are literally the kindest people you could ever meet. They doted on my children, gave them extra big scoops of ice cream and sent us on our merry little way. I loved all the flavors of ice cream they had which ranged from lavender to s'mores, to the more classic strawberry and mint chocolate chip. The ice cream was great, not-too-sweet and the perfect creamy consistency. The ice cream company they source from is local to the DMV and does not have any added preservatives and additives which is important to me. It seems like they are known for their pastries because their case was entirely wiped out by noon. They also have cafe drinks (nespresso). I'd love to see them branch out to local coffee purveyors in the future. read more
