This is the BESTplace to eat real Mexican food in Frederick. The food is just fantastic and everything is homemade. I really enjoy chatting with the owner. The service is superb and the place is low key. That's the key point... awesome food in a low key and friendly environment. I tried the chorizo sopes today! Wow... just fantastic! You will not be dissapointed. Highly recommended. read more

The best Mexican in Frederick. Don't be fooled by the look or location. These folks know how to do it. Everything is fresh. No canned sauces or mystery meat. Totally authentic. read more

My husband and I are hardly ever able to plan a breakfast date, but when we do, we choose Café Bueno. Their spicy sauce is amazingly spicy and their tacos and burritos are just as wonderful. The owner is very nice and enjoys conversing with us. After our first time there, he remembered us and what we liked. He even remembered to give us the spicy hot sauce that most customers do not ask for. We're so glad this place opened. Unfortunately I don't think they're open for dinner. Otherwise, we'd be here more often. read more

Best Authentic Mexican food in Frederick! Moved to the area over a year ago and couldn't find good Mexican food, until I found this place. However, the place is really to small to eat in, so would order take out next time. Also the rice and beans were a little plain (nobody finished their serving). Main entrees were amazing. Tip: they serve typical corn tortillas, so need to request flour tortillas, which is more American style. read more

The best in Frederick. We eat lunch at least twice a week here and have never been disappointed! Spicy pork burrito, chicken tacos, tortas. True Mexican food with great service. This is not your complimentary chips and salsa American spin on Mexican. Must try to appreciate! read more

Great great GREAT spot! All the food we got was tasty, fresh, and authentic. The burrito was big, smothered with a delicious rioja sauce, and the fajitas we packed with flavorful and tender steak. If you like spicy food, DEFINITELY try the habanero sauce! Perfect heat and taste. Also, the chips were fresh, warm, crispy, and not greasy. read more

LOVED IT!!!!! Came back from a six mile hike to the Catoctin Mountain Park and were looking for some cheap eats. Since downtown is 10 minutes away from our apt. thought we'd give this a try and SO glad we did. We got there after 4 and were given a smallish basket of chips and roasted tomato salsa but I can't complain, since the BF and I are both line cooks at restaurants we know you're not trying to give away profits. Anyway the salsa was nice but since as my BF puts it "You like LAVA" I was looking forward to getting a side of habanero salsa, damn the cost. Lo and behold once we had ordered (a chicken burrito for the BF and a Torta Cubana for me) our lovely server brought three salsas, described as hot, medium and mild. All were made fresh in house and all three were pretty darn good! The burrito and Torta arrived in short order, and were absolutely delicious! The burrito had well marinated and grilled chicken but my torta, oh MY. Stuffed with absolutely everything good, I had to slow myself down from eating it too fast and in the end I couldn't even finish it. Rice and beans OTS were no big deal but then again I wouldn't expect them to be. Lunch for 2 was $20 and well worth it. We will DEFINITELY be back! read more

Cafe Bueno in Frederick is indeed a hidden treasure, small, hole-in-the-wall with very few tables in a strip mall on East St. but it serves the best Tex/Mex in Frederick IMHO. Not that is a high bar, but the food here is *way* over that bar. The owner seems to be always present and she ensures that everything is done right and the service is just right The guacamole is excellent as has been noted before, even tho the current high prices of avocados means it is "thinned" a bit with other ingredients, and the chips that accompanied it are fried and warm, not out of the bag like some other Mexican eateries. I am dying to try their breakfasts! I could go on..... read more

The food is good. The location is off putting as well as the cafe itself. I walked in and was taken aback. The layout is like a sub shop and you can choose to sit and eat there. I thought we were getting Mexican food due to the flags outside advertising it but the menu had subs, burgers etc. I got the fish tacos. They were ok. The cabbage and radish on top was awful. It would be much better if it was some type of slaw, not just raw radish and cabbage. I also don't like when places nickel and dime you. Chips and salsa aren't free unless you are there during the hours of 4-7 Monday through Friday. We were asked if we wanted rice and beans on the side, but we're not informed that there was an up charge to it. I don't expect to get things for free but would like to know how much the additional food is especially since it wasn't listed on the menu. read more

Just ate lunch here it's one of the many good Mexican places here in Frederick but it stands out with its very social atmosphere and good food the owner is walking around helping tables and cooking food the service is quick and the menu Is diverse if you want quick good Mexican this is a good choice read more

The bomb!! Seriously, if you know authentic Mexican then you won't be disappointed here. If Chipolte is your idea of Mexican then don't bother. Place is BYOB with a liquor store 2 or 3 doors down. Trust me, just go there and order some tacos "Mexican Style". read more

Had lunch there today. I have been waiting for Frederick to get a place like this. We had the nachos, mexican tacos, and a bean burrito. All were fresh and had great flavor. Awesome! Can't wait to go back. read more

Excellent I mean absolutely excellent mexican food for a very reasonable price. Their tacos, quesadillas, grillers everything on the menu is amazing. We go there couple times a month, I love this place. read more

The chips are the best that I've ever had and I will say that this is probably the best Mexican food that I've ever had as well. I got the chicken tacos and my boyfriend got a burrito. The rice and beans are very moist too. However, the space was small and the workers looked a little miserable in the back. read more

I`ve been here twice. My most recent experience was unpleasant. The waitress was crotchety and rude. There were 6 in our party. She only brought 1 puny basket of chips & when we asked for more, she announced, with a big heap of attitude, that there would be an additional charge. That is irritatingly cheap on the part of this establishment. On the first visit, though, the waitress was pleasant & gave our party of 2 as many chips as we wanted & didn`t charge extra, so the practices here are inconsistent to say the least. Mexican food options in Frederick are rather sad & the taste of the food here is generally good if, & only if, compared to the competition. The meat in the tacos here is well-seasoned. The homemade salsas & hot sauces are also tasty. However, the tortillas used for the tacos are not particularly authentic. Mexican joints usually give fresher tortillas that come doubled up. This is not the case here. Also, the beans and rice are bland. Don`t bother paying extra to get them on your taco plate. The interior is not well kept & is downright dirty, which is not particularly appetizing. The floors were black with dirt & scuff marks & looked like they hadn`t been mopped for weeks. The bathrooms were similarly dirty & the trash cans were overflowing & littering the floors. I will not return here. read more

After being continuously disappointed with bland Mexican food we went here for lunch one day. The food was all very flavorful, and the service was good. It may not look like much, but if you want Mexican in Frederick this is the place to go. read more

Best Mexican food in Frederick, MD! I'm from SoCal and this place had some specific food I loved! Their servers are so sweet! I love the enchiladas with eggs along w green sauce! The chips and salsa are good too! read more

This place was crowded during lunch but it's because the food is fresh. I had the steak torta and it was made with fresh home made ingredients. I also tried the guacamole and chips, which were both made fresh. Although the guacamole was a little spicy since it had chunks of jalapeño in it. I would come here again and try something else off the menu. read more

Really great tacos! Loved it for my first trip to this hidden gem. Will try other dishes next time.

Just tried the shrimp tostada special for the 1st time & they were OUT OF THIS WORLD! There was so much going on in that dish & it all worked together fabulously: crunchy, creamy, fresh, succulent, spicy, beautiful...I loved it all! Def my new CB favorite! Hope this special doesn't disappear too soon b/c I am going back for more this weekend! read more

best Mexican food in town steak tacos are to for for I come hear all the time and am never disappointed

I love this place. Always good and fresh food. You can spend the same amount and sit in a bigger, fancier place or you can eat here with the food tasting so much better. Better quality meat and the service!!! The same faces who are always trying to please you. Good helping size too. I always have enough for a doggie bag. read more

Affordable and delicious food. Love the huevos rancheros. Perhaps not the most authentic but definitely a great lunch spot!

I'm a native Southern Californian living in Frederick for last 10 years and I can honestly say this is the best Mexican food I've had in this area since leaving the Golden State. read more

We decided to try Cafe Bueno based on the reviews. Upon arriving, we were told that breakfast ends at 11:00, so we had about 20 minutes - but I thought that was odd way to greet customers. We had an omelet (which was just okay) and a breakfast burrito (which was good). All in all it was an good experience, just kind of a different feel. read more

Good, inexpensive Mexican-American comfort food in a casual cafe setting. In addition to typical Mexican fare (tacos, burritos, quesadillas), they have daily specials--often Mexican dishes that are less familiar to American palates--and they offer a good diner-style breakfast menu (eggs, potatoes, French toast, etc.). Portions are generous, and the staff is friendly. It's not fine dining, nor the most "authentic" Mexican you'll ever taste--but it's good food, and it's a refreshing change from the usual combo-platter-#4-and-fried-ice-cream-for-dessert model that unfortunately dominates so many Mexican eateries in the Mideast. It's a small place, though--so you might have to wait for a seat if it's busy. read more

Fresh fried chips and bangin fajitas. Definitely worth a visit. Dont let the location fool you, the food is delicious.

I just relocated back to Frederick from Texas with my husband who is from Texan I the one thing we knew we'd miss was Mexican / Tex-Mex food. I've taken my husband just about everywhere in Frederick and Cafe Bueno BY FAR outweighs them all! Delicious. Authentic. Homestyle cooking. We've been several times and will continue to make this our place of choice for Mexican food. read more

After hearing time and again how good this place is I decided to try for myself. Happy to find ample parking right outside . Let me say all that I keep hearing is correct. This is the best Mexican food I have ever eaten! Been back to both dine in and take out many times since and everything I have gotten was fresh and delicious read more

Best Mexican I have had since moving away from California. Simple and while not really authentic, it was delicious. I had a pork burrito which was served wet with a verde sauce, rice and beans on the side. They brought three choices of hot sauce to the table with the meal. Service was very polite and timely. Overall a great experience. read more

Amazing! I stopped in and had the chicken tacos... They were without a doubt the best tacos I've had in a long time. Real. Authentic. Mexican food!! This place won't disappoint! read more

Loved this place!!! We went to there because I love authentic mexican food. First, the steak nachos were amazing. The chips were handmade and it was simply delicious. We each got different tacos and traded. Loved them all!!! The staff were friendly and courteous and accommodating to special requests. We will definately be going again. I highly recommend this place!!! read more

OMG- always in search of good mexican or tex-mex and after trying numerous places in the area, this is the ONE. Coming from Texas, we are picky and know authentic and this place has it. Ambience not great, but fabulous, attentive service and great tasting food make it worth it. read more

Outstanding! Excellent breakfasts; my favorite is eggs with chorizo, beans & rice, with an occasional side of scrapple (one of the few places that prepares scrapple correctly!). Great coffee as well! Bravo! read more

Their breakfast is very good. Love the mom and pop feel of this establishment. Reasonably priced.

Been here twice for breakfast - great food and service! Had a spinach and mushroom omelet - was awesome! Service is great!

I have eaten here a few times and I am never disappointed. The line can get too long around typical busy times. The staff is friendly and efficient. The prices are decent. It is much better than a lot of the other similar restaurants around here. The salsa is different, I've never had any like it, but it is good. But if you're expecting the typical tomato salsa you're in for a surprise. Definitely give it a shot though! read more

Love this place. Highly recommend the tacos mexican style al pastor. Sweet and savory. They are always busy and always do a great job!

The food is fresh and the sauces are great and you can't beat the crispy ground beef tacos! The service is consistently good, as well. A great neighborhood gem! I gave it 4 stars because the atmosphere is just average. A great place to go for lunch or an early dinner! read more

I come here often because it is close to my work place. I love the food. My only complaint is you have to say you want the lunch special, otherwise they will charge you regular price for the same portion of food. My co-worker and I ordered the same meal. She was charged regular price, I was charged the lunch special and even got a drink with mine. When we got back to the office and compared it was the sane exact thing. Don't let them fool you. read more
