No Bueno!! Terrible! I don't understand the reviews. My first visit was mehhh. However, based off the reviews I gave it a second go. Food was even worse! My stomach has been upset since. The steak was burnt and tasted like it was cooked twice. Taco Bell does jt better than this place. Service was meh first visit but second it was remarkably better. I suppose the service hides what the kitchen lacks. Oh and chips and salsa are $6. Bizarre. Whatever tho. I will never go back. read more

First off, I have never paid for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant ... I mean really? They charge for chips and salsa and if you ask for extra chips they charge. The place it cute, servers are kind... but food portions are expensive and smaller. The food is good, but We most likely will not eat here again. read more

Pretty decent Mexican food. I took off a star because they charge for chips & salsa. As a Texan, I hate when Mexican places don't give complimentary chips & salsa. The horchata was good, the chicken burrito was solid. My husband got the chicken tacos, Mexican style, and those were flavorful. My in-laws got the chicken quesadilla and steak quesadilla, and they enjoyed both. The service was excellent and food came out very quickly. read more

So, I came for the lunch special 3 tacos rice/beans and a drink. I was already thinking of what I was going to order. Chorizo or maybe carnitas or maybe al pastor. Well, turns out you can only get Veggie, steak or chicken for the special which sort of annoyed me. I got steak, I almost never get steak at taco places because they usually don't impress me with the quantity or quality. This is the first place I was impressed. I was raised on this food, and I can say it is authentic, and the steak was seasoned well, and quantity was good. The flavors where all there, the salsa was tasty too. The server was nice as can be, came back the follow week for dinner to try the al pastor, and they were good too. I will be coming back whenever I crave authentic Mexican food. read more

Was looking for some breakfast/lunch options for a saturday that wasn't your typical and i remembered all about the new location of Cafe Bueno. The inside was beautifully designed with your bright colored chairs and decorations. The service was fast and very thorough in explaining. I wanted breakfast so i ordered the huevos a la mexicana. Hit all the right spots. WOW! The salsas as well, you can tell those are homemade and filled with just the right amount of spice. My boyfriend ordered the torta and i had to steal half of it, the smell of the sandwich just took me over. Needless to say i'm going to become a regular just for this and the price! read more

I really don't want to give them two stars since they are so highly reviewed, but the morning after eating here, I ended up vomiting and with diarrhea, so while I'm hesitant to blame the establishment, I don't have much else to go on. I recall having a couple of tacos, mind you it was about 8 months ago, and I don't recall anything over the top flavor wise, that would support the 5 star ratings they have from some Yelpers. I do however, recall them having a friendly cashier and my food was prepared quickly although there were several people in front of me. I'd be hesitant to try them again if I was in the area, but will give them extra credit for being a BYOB establishment and being 3 businesses down from a liquor store and practically next door to a laundromat. Needed a place to meet someone, have a very quick nip and a nibble then go on about our day. I chose to get guacamole and chips for us to share. My friend had a beer and I had a sangria. I have had better chips, guacamole, and sangria. The sangria was watery and translucent. Sangria should not be see-through. It would help if it were clouded with a little OJ--the chips were thick and very hard, and the guacamole had green peppers in it. Surprised and disappointed was me. read more

Randomly found this place while I was getting work done on my car. It happened to be across the street from the auto shop. I said to myself, "Hey, why not?." It's has a super cozy atmosphere. The service was excellent. I ordered the Fish Taco lunch special. I got the fried version. Talk about flavor! I wanted to order another plate. The rice and beans that came with the meal were just ok. It didn't knock my socks off like those fish tacos did. Overall great experience for my 1st time here. Can't wait to try their other options! read more

The food was great. Large portions for a great price. Service was courteous, though a bit slow at times. Note that there is limited seating and this really is a family restaurant. Lots of families and children when I visited. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa that came with the chips, but there are three other variations in squirt bottles on the table, all different in flavor and spiciness, so you can experiment as you like. The chips aren't limitless; you'll have to pay for refills. Also the guacamole was overpriced for a very small bowl. Not worth ordering that. I'd eat here again. read more

Stunned by how overrated this place is. Food was decent but packed flavor.. We ordered fajitas, tacos..I mean basic stuff. Also they charged us for every little thing, extra chips, .75 for sour cream? Finally was looking fwd to churros with chocolate for dessert. It was bland and unimaginative. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken quesadilla so a one star is sufficient enough for that since it doesn't take much to make a quesadilla. My shrimp taco salad came out very shortly after I ordered which left me confused. The salad contained slimy raw shrimp. I had to try another shrimp to believe it . Yes it was raw. I then tried a veggie burrito because I'm already here hey why not. My veg burrito was no better and soupy might I add. Service was poor. The woman who rung me up didn't even bother to apologize or discount the meal when I mentioned the raw shrimp. Very disappointing for it to be the 3rd top rated restaurant in the area. Chicken Chorizo Quesadilla was great! Reasonable prices, pleasant dining room and even the restroom was awesome!

We have been going to Cafe Bueno mostly for takeout since they moved to the bigger space. Not sure what the status is on salsas but the food in general is still great and consistent. Place seems VERY BUSY now, which is great. If they could turn the lights down 30% inside it would be more comfortable. #toobright See update below) I can see why this cute little place is riding at 4-1/2 stars. We discovered it 6 months ago on Yelp and have been here 1/2 dozen times since. We love it. They do a lot of carry out but have about 10 tables inside and very friendly service (Victoria is especially sweet). Wait! NOT ONLY THE BEST SALSA EVER, BUT ALSO SEVERAL VARIETIES TO CHOOSE FROM. They bring three to each table. Come for the salsa alone. Everything is good, but I never had a Mexican sandwich before (torta) and it was to die for. Very soft bread makes it special. I got the spicy pork one. Go for it! No frills here. And no beer. BYOB is allowed. My food is almost here, so I gotta go. Try it. You'll be back. Good prices too. UPDATE: Flabbergasted by the INSANE decision to "change" the recipe for their roasted pepper salsa. It was their best and now it is GONE. Also, the two other salsas I tasted yesterday were AWFUL. Won't go back. Only went here once, tonight. My g/f said her fajita salad was ok but the chicken and steak in my fajita were both just gross. Small stringy pieces of meat. Nothing I would ever want to pay for if I knew that's what I was getting. McDonalds has bigger pieces of chicken... Bottom of the barrel meat, literally. The meat also had no flavor and I had to ask for salt and lime to add just so it wasn't so bland. I'm so disappointed because I read some good reviews of this place although I had never been here. My girlfriend and I were put in a small corner table and once we got our food the server never came back. I had to get up to ask for a damn soda refill and I honestly wasn't sure if this was full service or not because we were ignored. I'm not sure how it's reviews are as high as they are. But when this place comes up as the highest rated "mexican" style restaurant in Frederick, that's concerning. I was not impressed with our food. All the staff were very friendly and kind, but I came for food. And I'm not sure I will give this place a second chance. The quesadilla was super greasy, much more than I've ever seen. Our steak nachos were average and my torta was ok but nothing to write home to momma about. Maybe it was timing, just a bad day or I have higher expectations for the food when it's rated so high. But if I go back it will be for the service not necessarily the food. read more

Not impressed with the food at all. I ordered cheese fries as an appetizer and they brought out what look like something I could make it home see pictures. For the meal I ordered a chicken quesadilla. The chicken did not look like chicken. I'm used to eating chicken quesadillas that are made with white meat. When this first came out I thought they brought me a steak quesadilla. I guess they used thigh meat or dark meat to make it. For dessert I ordered the Fried ice cream. It wasn't bad although I have had fried ice cream in the past and the Outside should be warm while the inside is cold and this was all cold. The waiter was super nice and I can't complain about the service at all. The place was also very pretty decorated very well and very authentic Mexican. It sucks the food was not that great. I didn't finish it and did not take it with me. They do have nice outdoor seating and it was a beautiful day outside although I sat inside. Would really love to give this place five stars because of the service and the people but the food was definitely not five stars. read more

I went in a few years ago when they were located up the street next to the 7-Eleven place with jumping food was outstanding. So I randomly went into the new location last week. After misjudging the walking distance from a coffeehouse named Beans and Bagels, my friend and I found ourselves on a mile trek to this little hole in the wall- located next to a 7-11 in a shopping center the size of a modern Mcdonalds. Going into Cafe Bueno, you think... I hope appearances are a bit deceiving. The decorations are a little outdated, and the furniture and atmosphere isn't anything to Yelp about. So you order a Veggie Quesadilla for your appetizer and you begin to find out why this shoebox restaurant has 98 reviews and 4.5 stars and isn't even among the walking traffic in Downtown Frederick. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, served with an adequate amount of sour cream and a pico with a bit of zip. Going on to have the fish tacos is surely a delight. Again, simple and presentation is understated... but then you bite into the tender fish with the cilantro aioli? salsa? pesto? and you discover a wonderful marriage that excites the palate and draws the sound of Mmmm. Al pastor tacos are quite good. A bit heavy on the pineapple for me, but that's just preference. The rice, perfectly cooked- light, airy, seasoned well, delicate, fluffy, orange spongy bits of savoriness. The refried beans follow suit. Service is quick, friendly, and approachable. The woman who waited on us explained menu items, allowed us to alter food, and was prompt to refill drinks. Overall a 5 star experience- easy. read more

Food though... it was very bland and was more what i would consider "American Mexican" food... definitely not even close to "authentic" Mexican food. It all tasted like it was either frozen or out of a box or bag, unfortunately. Any "Mexican place" that doesn't give complimentary chips and salsa - ones that you can't get enough of and find yourself asking for more- is a no go in my book. Once we saw the name included "Bueno", we had to go out of love and respect for our nephew who I won't name here. Our visit was definitely fun but the food was a bit on the bland side to be kind. Thank gosh they had four kinds of hot sauce to kick everything up a notch or ten. The homemade hibiscus and tamarind Horchata drinks was delicious! We enjoyed them! Upon entered the parking lot, we noticed this strip mall restaurant was conveniently located next to both a liquor store and laundromat. Get hammered and have some tacos while your clothes get clean. How convenient! We did notice that every patron was Caucasian. In fact, the only latinos we saw were working there. Perhaps that's why the food was a bit muted. Chips and salsa is not complimentary!!!!!! The chips with the guacamole are so thick, liike chewing wood, and what is that after taste? I think y'all are using that squash that imitates avocado, cause that isn't going guacamole. Bad oil? Cheap oil? Dirty oil? Do y'all modify your food for non Mexicans thinking it's doing you justice. Considering how well this place was reviewed on yelp I was disappointed. First, they don't have enough parking, though usually that's a good problem. The food however was meh and I've had much better Mexican from hole in the walls in rural Pennsylvania where I'm from. My burrito had overcooked shrimp and was a bit over spiced. My kids each got chicken quesadillas which they barely touched (they tend to eat all their food when we get Mexican). Then we were given the bill for the wrong table and had to fix the correct bill as we were charged for a soda we didn't order. Decided to try Cafe Bueno for Cinco De Mayo. The usual big chains were booked up. So we hit CB at 6:20p and got a table for two. Actually the table with a view of the fast action kitchen. We ordered the Burrito Bueno and the Enchilada Special. Soooooo can you say Olé , Olé , Olé, Olé they rock the the best Mexican Food Today and everyday. It was awesome, the flavor's were spot on, true Mexican cooking at its best. Then I spied a drink I had to have! Horchetta is the name and home made, it's insane! This traditional drink is made with milk, rice, cinnamon, spices and is the best thing going. After we devoured the meal we were asked if we wanted dessert. When We hit Churro and three milk cake we had to dig in. Glad we did because the dessert matched the meal and was delicious! I highly recommend Cafe Bueno for your Mexican food fix. The service is excellent, and very helpful. The portions are ample and the price per person is very, very reasonable. They serve Breakfast, Lunch and dinner but are not open late so head over and enjoy! read more
