TLDR Food was good but overpriced. - Typical Turkish Mediterranean food. We ordered manti, lamb chops, lahmacun, and cheese pide. I liked lamb chops the most - the marinade was very good and the meat was pretty tender. Manti were plain. Not enough sauce for me, I like them more in Anatolian kitchen. Cheese pide and lahmacun were ok. Traditional cheese hacapuri has puffier dough, this one was very thin, but I liked cheese choice inside. - Location of the place is very convenient and the place looks very cozy, especially in the evening. - Service was ok. - Price per person was about $27. A very good Turkish restaurant on a street with many good restaurants. The food is tasty, the decor is an interesting eclectic arrangement of Turkish items, and the service is attentive. We were walking along Castro Street, before a Theatreworks play at the nearby Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, seeking a place for dinner before the show. Selecting a restaurant on this street is easy with the interiors clearly visible (and outdoor seating areas as well) and menus posted outside for the easy viewing of prospective customers; this is the old pre-Yelp way to find a good restaurant. (Of course Yelp adds reviews, but on this evening we were being "retro"). The decor of the restaurant caught our attention. This place just "looks interesting", exotic, and quaint. The selections on the menu were also interesting. Lamb (in various preparations) is the dominant meat on the menu. So, in we went. We were glad that we did. We were seated in the rear dining room. To get there, you are guided past the kitchen in the front, then through a very small and narrow middle dining room, into the larger rear room. Pita bread and a nice dipping sauce are presented. Very good. My wife and I ordered two dishes which we shared, since they were both delicious. The waiter presented the entrees on their own plates and then provided us individual plates for our personal portions. We had the Lamb Moussaka ($17.95) and one of the daily specials, Lamb Shank ($25.00). Both were very very good, but the Lamb Shank was particularly good. It was tender and had a delicious sauce. For dessert, we had Baklava ($8.00). After verifying that the only nuts are pistachios (since my wife is allergic to walnuts, and many places try to cut corners on Baklava by using walnuts instead of the proper pistachios), we ordered it, since it is a rare treat for my wife to find it properly made. The baklava was served on a plate with only four small pieces, which seemed expensive for what you get; however, the taste made up for the quantity to price ratio. Very Good! read more

Out of the 4 of us only one was outstanding and that was the lamb shank special. Our friends were thrilled with the special. They split that and the falafel wrap. My Husband also had the wrap. Really loved this place. Food was fantastic and the service was as if we were the only ones there: Super attentive and all smiles. We sat outside and their patio tables on the street were comfortable, and didn't feel crowded at all. Lots of foot traffic for people watching. I had the combo kebab with veggies and rice. It was fantastic. Their pistachio baklava is made in-house and was uniquely delicious. Friend ordered the lamb chops. The portion was huge and he loved them. Another friend had the sausage pizza. Went here during Covid. We were the only people in the restaurant and I loved the feel of all of it. It felt like a private dining experience. The decor here is unique. I also think that the sampler plate of appetizers was great. We got the salmon plate and also the lamb plate (Adonis) I think it was called. I feel like I need to give this place a 5 to offset the mediocre reviews. I thought this place would for sure have at least a 3.5 overall rating because I went to DishDash recently and thought the chicken gyro wrap here was bigger, tastier, and juicier. The waiters here are friendly, sometimes a little too friendly (they've stopped me on the street in an attempt to get me to come eat), and I think the owner is the only non-greek person in the place, but other than minor identity crisis and super-friendly waiters, this is a solid Mediterranean option. read more

My husband and I went to this restaurant on Saturday night at around 9:15pm. The waiter told us " I can sit you if you order fast and eat quickly" I carried on the conversation to be friendly and said something you are closing so early. He said he had been there 12 hours and if it was upto him he would close earlier...I was appalled because their hours said they were open till 22:30pm. We quickly ordered Lamb pide and Lahmacun. Lahmacun was good. But lamp pide was awful. Meat tasted so heavy. I told my husband not to continue eating unless he will get sick. We told him it was not good. The interior decor is so carefully done that it looks extremely inviting. After walking in, it feels equally cozy and every corner of the interior is bound to catch your curiosity - from the copper jugs lining the windowsills, the 'middle-eastern vegetarian recipes' book by the myriad of wines, the colorful Turkish lamps o'er hanging the spirit of the place, all the way to the tucked away back-room dining area that barely peeks out. Every experience goes downhill from there. Lackluster service. Very carelessly prepared food - over-stuffed with spices, over/under cooked, badly baked bread, insipid dipping sauces, wrong flavors in the old dessert...you get the idea. Well after the taste of the food is long gone, I will certainly remember the very happening interior decor of this restaurant, which shines like a star amidst mediocrity - well, make that two stars. read more

This place is a little bit pricier side for kebab and hummus ($20-29) for kebab depending on the meat selection but has sucha cozy atmosphere look to it from outside so I had to try. One thing very disappointing was that the waiters were rushing us to leave, taking away the plate when we are not done yet, giving check while serving dessert, keep staring at us while passing by. However I have to admit their food was great. The best lamb kebab and chicken kebab i ever had. Hummus was very rich. I am not sure rice pudding was worth $8 though. Specious, more private area in the back, good for gatherings or some smaller events. Rice was too dry. Grilled zucchini were soggy while red peppers were not baked well. Lamb pieces could have been cooked longer, pink inside was not our preference. Falafel - very dry or cooked too long. Pita bread was crunchy and tasty: dipping sauce good too. This place is pretty nice and the food was pretty good. We ordered the kabob and the kabob platter for entree But I'm taking two stars away from this place as the server was incredibly rude. We got in at 9:30pm and ordered pretty quickly and we were eating and then my friend went to the restroom and the server asked if we were done and we weren't so I said no, we are still working on it. He left the check and walked away and kept staring at me from the corner. I finished my portion of the food and when my friend got back and was finishing his wine, the server got mad. He came and grabbed our plates without asking and we could hear him throwing the silverware. And after couple mins he comes by and tells us we have 2mins to get out. WTF!!!! Who does this server think he is? We aren't in a club and whatever happened to customer service? Worst behavior ever! I have never had any restaurant tell me I had 2 minutes to get out. Would never go back and definitely do not recommend this place to anyone. Save some $$ and go some place nice! This place wasn't cheap and to be treated shitty. We had come here several times before the pandemic and the food was delicious. Yesterday was a major disappointment. We both ordered the lamb kabob with the usual rice pilaf. One piece of lamb was cooked to medium, the rest were almost raw. My husband said several pieces had gristle in them. The rice was only lukewarm and some was clumped, not making for a pleasing presentation. Even the taste was off. For $30 a meal, we expected a little better. This past weekend, my family and I were in the area enjoying the gorgeous weather. We were starving and were walking up and down the area until we stopped in front of Cafe Baklava. We honestly ended up just settling here because we couldn't make up our minds and just decided to grab a seat in their little outdoor seating area. I odered the chicken kebab plate and my husband order the grilled shrimp kebab plate. We were also given some fresh pita bread with special house to start on the house. My son and I shared the chicken kebab plate and he loved every single morsel of it. Service was good and they kept our waters filled without us having to us for more refills. This place is a shame for Turkish cuisine! We ordered lamb pide and beyti through doordash. It arrived on time but was barely warm. Both my husband and I were disappointed with what we got since lamb pide had uncooked onions and tomato chunks under the cheese sheet on top of ground lamb. I don't know why they did not mix ground lamb and tomato & onions together and bake/cook them well. And beyti was the worst! It was a total disaster as it was not made of lamb but more looked like chicken, if it is not tofu, (see the white meat color in the picture) even though they say in the menu it is lamb. And it didn't have any taste at all! As a person who has eaten beyti so many times in Turkey, I can say that what we ate from this restaurant was a total failure. I have been wanting to try Cafe Baklava for a long time, as I am always in the mood for kabobs and rice. So we finally made it to this place for lunch. The service was great, both the waiter and the busboy were attentive and friendly. The wheat pita bread was fresh and warm and served with an interesting oil dip which had bits of soft red pepper in it (I think?). We ordered the chicken kabob with rice and veggies and the steak kabob with rice and veggies. The chicken kabob was really good, the steak was flavored nice but really chewy and not very tender which made it hard to eat. The rice was ok, the veggies meh.
