Walked in behind a couple who upon entering took their masks off and began chatting away with the guy working (clearly acquainted and based on conversation, the owner?). He made no comment regarding their mask removal (maybe because his was barely on itself) and spent well over 5 minutes complaining with them about how "the neighborhood had turned to sh*t". I love this place and you will too. I've been going here for the past year and love the staff. They're all very friendly, welcoming, and efficient. There's times where I see them being super busy, but they're able to stay so on top of orders that they'd occasionally give an ETA on your order to not make it feel like your order got lost in the shuffle. The atmosphere of the cafe is very cute and feels like it has a personal touch to the space, rather than it being another cookie cutter design cafe. Their breakfast sandwich is delicious, you have the option to get it with turkey (unfortunately no bacon option), then throw in some hot sauce and get it on a jalapeño cheddar bagel while you're at it. Extremely friendly service makes this quaint cafe feel like home. In very few places have I ever felt more welcome. I randomly wandered in and yet I was received like family. I ordered a bagel sandwich with turkey, cream cheese, and peppers and also a cup of spinach and split pea soup. The food tasted fresh. The coffee, espresso, and breakfast bagel sandwiches are THE BEST IN TOWN. But even more than that, it's the people that work here that make Argento's the #1 coffee shop in Seattle. This coffeeshop is an anchor in the community, bringing people together over top-notch coffee/espresso and conversation. The coffee is served perfectly piping hot (unlike Starbucks and other chains that give you almost lukewarm espresso) and the beans are freshly roasted. If you want a great space to work at too, they've got you covered for indoor and/or outdoor seating. The environment is good here for reading, writing, drawing, socializing, and people watching. Cafe Argento is the first stop I make when I'm up on Capitol Hill. The baristas, the regulars, and the atmosphere make it easy to hang out, chat, and maybe even work. Faizel, Erin, Sierra and Josh are superb humans who brighten up the day no matter how it starts! Honorable mentions; the breakfast sammich with their house made garlic olive oil is a must have for any morning. If you like a little spice pick up a samosa with the garlic olive oil. tldr; Dang tho that breakfast sandwich! I live one block away from Argento and I can't believe it took me almost a year to go inside. So far this place has the best bagels I've tasted in Seattle, and their bagel breakfast sandwich is absolutely to die for (and vegetarian!). Delicious eggs, creamy cream cheese, and excellently spicy hot sauce (you can get it sans-sauce if you aren't about the spice) conspire to create a delightful sandwich experience. It's not even expensive, they sell these things for like $5! The interior is quite nice too--it's mostly windows so there's plenty of natural light, and it's usually pretty quiet so it's great for work/study. Also the staff are super friendly, which I seriously appreciate in this city :P One caveat: coffee here is merely "pretty good" which is unfortunately below the Seattle average of "rather excellent." I started working in the neighborhood five years ago and, while I was glad to have been sprung from the bland, homogeneous suburbs, I will admit to a twang of discomfort the first few times I found early morning homeless people sleeping against my office door or the occasional evidence of some raucous activity from the night before. (Why do parties ever need to include smeared feces?) And I sometimes wondered, do I fit here? Will I ever find my roots here? Then I stumbled into Cafe Argento and found roots, a home a mom, and a great cup of coffee - all wrapped up in one lovely and hilarious barista/owner named Faizel. You can't overestimate the value of a coffee shop that is open every single morning no matter what - one where the decor changes and the menu grows but the guy behind the counter still yells out, "Hey, baby!" when you walk in the door - one where you can bring your friends, your woes, and your children and it's all good. When I left the neighborhood, moving on to another phase of my life, I took pictures of Cafe Argento and Faizel - not because I think it or he will change, not if history is any indication - but because I wanted to take a picture of "home" with me on my journey. Came here on a random Tuesday when Solstice was a bit crowded. Argento is located on the corner of the streets, in a very unassuming location. Ordered a quick cappuccino and toasted poppy seed bagel with cream cheese and garlic olive oil. It's a fairly simple combination, but something that I had never really seen before. However, after I tried it, I was a believer. The olive oil, while a bit rich for some tastes, adds a bit more of a velvety texture when eating it, rather than just thickness of the cream cheese. I needed the wi-fi to get some work done, and since there weren't many people around in the cafe, I was able to finish my work ahead of time, as there was plenty of bandwidth and not too many distractions. Pretty killer if you ask me. Service was very quick and friendly. After I sat down, a good number of customers came in for their morning coffees, and the barista knew pretty much everyone's names. Definitely seems like your typical neighborhood coffee joint, and it felt comfortable being there, even though I was a clear outsider. It really is a breath of fresh air, to experience great service in a cafe on Capitol Hill. Sure, you can go into other places, grab your expensive americano without a smile from the barista... Or, you could stop into Cafe Argento and get your fill of a nice conversation while your coffee is made (and for a fraction of the price, too!). I've never had a negative experience here. GAWD, I wish this cafe wasn't so out of the way on my daily walk to work, because I simply adore everything about it, including the owner, Faizel! He is a genuinely kind-hearted, sweet individual who truly cares about each of his patrons as though they were a guest in his own home. Though I've never had any of the tempting and delicious looking food here (that'll change eventually when my iron-clad willpower eventually crumbles from Faizel's charm), I will say that every americano I've had has been top-notch and delicious. This review is based on two experiences recently. First, I stopped into Cafe Argento last weekend, right before they were closing. I didn't realize they closed at 2PM. The owner was behind the counter, and said I could stay for an extra bit while he prepared for some redecorating work. He was such a nice guy. It sounds like he's been and will be part of the neighborhood for a long time. Capitol Hill is running out of real neighborhood establishments, so this is great. Oh, and the coffee and bagel breakfast sandwich were awesome. (And inexpensive!) I stopped in today also for another tasty bagel breakfast sandwich (after I realized the bagel deli on 15th closed, que lastima). The owner was here again. I noticed they didn't have the bagel breakfast sandwich on the menu, but he said that he would make special for me. What a great guy! I am giving this an unprecedented six-star review, but unfortunately Yelp only recognizes five. read more

The coffee is not amazing, but it's good. The thing about this place is the owner. If you need a place to feel at home at, he gives it to you. There's no sassy hip "I'm better than you because I make your coffee" (whaaattt?) attitude here. He's incredibly nice and accommodating. I came in the other day, frazzled on my way to school, and I can see the place from my apartment window. Hell, when my wifi is out... I can use theirs... that's how close it is. Anyway, I didn't have cash and it's a cash only business so he just wrote me an IOU and told me I could pay whenever. That's awesome. That's what Seattlites need in a coffee shop, because everyone elses' "fuck you" attitude is really getting to me (with the exception of this place and Joe Bar). Argento is great. Please try it. I'm not huge on giving the five stars, but this cafe deserves it. It's a little tucked away, and I'm sad to realize that it's been there for as long as it has and I've walked past it countless times... but now we make a point to stop in when we have that still-need-another-cup-before-i-admit-i-have-to-go-to-work urge. It's close to the park, and even the exterior makes me feel like I'm stepping into Europe for the few minutes I'm there (complete with little fountain!). The service is great. No, really --- he knows his customers' names and drinks, and I understand why. With his personality and delicious coffee, there's every reason to return. He's engaging and fun, and his ability to move down the line with orders while being the only person ringing up and barista-ing makes me believe he's a super hero. When you compare it to the wait of some over-staffed coffee places, he blows them out of the water. The pastry case is stocked with delicious num nums and he folds your cream/sugar right into the drink. The feel of the space is good and it's clean and inviting. I came into Cafe Argento right after it opened to fill out an application for an apartment I was looking at. Immediately the owner and sole proprietor, Faizel, made me feel completely welcome. When I did move to the area Cafe Argento became my only coffee shop. Soon after that it became a warm spot in my heart. I later moved out of the city and for months used to drive the 60 mile round trip at least once a weekend to come visit. Through a few rocky relationships (understatement) Faizel has listened to me whine, while keeping me fed on some of the best homemade soup and sandwiches I've ever had. The decor is warm and charming; reflecting the personality of the owner and the coffee is top-notch. If you like chai you cannot leave without trying Cafe Argento's.
