My friend invited me out for breakfast near her home so I drove out toward Midway Airport from downtown. What I found was a lovely and quaint little diner. The customers were obviously regulars of this husband and wife spot. It was adorable! The exterior doesn't look like much. I almost thought they were closed. There is an L shaped parking lot that wraps around the back of the restaurant. Living downtown, I always appreciate easy parking. We were very happy to find that they were open. Once inside, I found a classic Americana diner that felt cozy and welcoming. Booths and a counter service are reminiscent the innocence we all long for. It was super clean and I felt quite comfortable with the safety protocols they offered. The sweet hostess/server greeted us warmly and sat us right away. She was friendly and very helpful. The owner stopped by to chat a couple of times. When I checked the time and mentioned it was close to closing time, she graciously told us to stay as long as we like. Before I left I was able to meet her husband who prepared our food. I told him how much I appreciated the quality of our breakfast and his talent in preparing everything perfectly. He was as equally gracious and friendly as his wife. I ordered a Veggie Skillet that was filled with tons of veggies and was very light on the oil. My Greek toast was thick and toasted to the perfect golden brown. My friend ordered some sort of Spanish omelette at the suggestion of the owner. It looked great and my friend loved it. The owner even stopped by and brought us each a piece of candy. I was enjoying the atmosphere, service and breakfast soooo much I forgot to take photos!! This is a brunch place that made me feel like home. I had Southside Irish skillet that came with toasts, a side of cheesy potatoes and coffee. All tasted good. I especially liked the meat/ham in the skillet. It's flavorful. 1 star off because it was inconvenient and uncomfortable to dine here. They only have 3 parking spots at the small parking lot in the back. For the majority of parking spots there, they are NOT for this restaurant. You can't park there or your car will be towed (see a picture of the parking lot with the sign below). I ended up parking my car at the much bigger parking lot across from the street. NO WIFI here either. The AC was functioning at the beginning so it felt comfortable, however it started to feel hot later so I didn't want to stay for any longer. I think this place is still worth stopping by during spring or fall when you're not driving because the food was good! The restaurant is very cute and clean, but The portions were very small for the prices! Food was average at best. After we ate, I used the restroom, and was horrified!! It was FILTHY!! There was caked on urine on the toilet seat, and toothpaste spit on the faucet. If I would have seen that BEFORE we ate, we would have been outta there!!! My wife and I tried this place just because we love diner hopping. Parking is located in the back of the building. It was empty when we got inside the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted and seated very quickly. We started with the cream of chicken soup it was perfect for the chilly day. My wife ordered the Baja shrimp omelette she loved it. She said the hollandaise sauce needed a little flavor but overall was happy with her choice. I had the basic two egg scrambled with English muffin it was great. We shared the very delicious blueberry waffles. You have to try them. Nothing like fresh blueberries. We will be back again. Only bad part was it was very very hot inside. read more

Service is excellent and very friendly. We adore our server, Kathy. They treat us like more like a family member than just a customer while keeping it professional. Great twist on the classic food items such as the Pot Roast skillet and Crab Cake Benedict. It keeps us coming back for more. A real hearty & tasty meal that wont break the budget. Experience: Cafe 63 is a very small breakfast joint that is located within the south side of Chicago. With a party of 3, we were quickly seated and served. The ambience of the place seems to be very "mom and pop" shop, which is not a bad thing at all. If anything it made the whole experience very homey! Parking: It appears to have free street parking and a rear parking lot. Parking was definitely not difficult to find. (Note: This was Friday afternoon) Worth: Definitely worth going to if you are near the area. You really cannot go wrong with breakfast food. It was reasonably priced and I had no complaints. Very rarely do I give 5 stars. Not many good dining options in this neighborhood so I expected same old same old. Wow. Felt like I was eating in the west or south loop!! Amazing!! We over ordered so we can try interesting items-special note goes to: Texas style corn beef hash, biscuits & gravy and praline pecan bacon. Delicious!! Very attentive wait staff Home made and cooked to order-come when you're not in a big hurry. Can't wait to go back for lunch options!! I really didn't want to write a review because of selfish reasons, this business needs to be recognized for its fabulous food!!! The choices are great from spam and eggs to bologna and eggs. There menu choices are great. There were six of us we were all served at the same time pipping hot. It is the first time I always order hash browns well done and OMG! They knew exactly what that was and they were perfect. Food portions were great cost was very reasonable service was quick tentative extra welcoming. Definitely becoming a regular customer. Had the Fiesta Omelette with chorizo, jalapeño peppers, onions and cheddar cheese, hash browns and Texas toast. Everything was ON POINT! Coffee was consistently poured throughout our meal. Waitress was beyond efficient and courteous. It was a bit eerie because she knew how I'd like things before I even said anything (hash done hard, hot sauce rushed to my table and ice with my daughters apple juice). Service is here is great but I can't say the same for the food. The steak seemed old as if it was defrosted then put back in the freezer. I was unable to finish it for that reason. Overall, the food seemed bland. I asked for a glass of water and the glass and/or the water smelled so bad. I had the glass about a foot away from me and I could still smell it. We tried the newly remodeled place for the first time and indeed it was an excellent experience from the decoration to the stylish plates that they use to serve the meals on, and the food was excellent as well. My husband and I ordered apple pancakes, they were regular pancakes with canned cold apples sandwiched in between. Nice little spot to eat in the Midway area. Modern style and plating, great food smells coming in. The coffee was decent and they had packets of French Vanilla, and other various flavors for your tastes (alongside regular cream). Boo and I both ordered corned beef sandwiches, one with Swiss and one with American cheese, both of which were respectively good. Fries were also done well, with a flavor that reminds me of Brown's Chicken fries for some reason. Nice little throwback for me. I didn't want a red meat coma but I should have ordered the burger anyway; someone else had ordered it and it smelled amazing, coming on out. Server Rita was attentive (the breakfast sandwich she was eating during breaks looked really good too, actually), and owner Dale made his rounds to make sure everyone was doing okay. That one is important! Only drawback is that given the circumstances (I came around noon and I'd say it was less than a third full) I felt like I had spent more time there, overall, than I usually do at a restaurant or diner for breakfast. I could imagine that perhaps the kitchen is small, given the property's own size. Granted, I have no problem waiting for a good meal. I ordered a BLT, Pork chop and eggs, 4 soups, side of sausage and original cafe 63 skillet...it was $54! and to make matters worse, the skillet was so small, I could get twice the size from Three Sons - with more meat for the same if not less cost.
