My husband and I ordered apple pancakes, they were regular pancakes with canned cold apples sandwiched in between. When I told the waitress that the apples were cold she brought back new pancakes with microwaved canned apples on top. Our waitress was friendly but odd, she was kinda loud & wore a very strong smelling perfume. She shook her wet hands on us when she finished filling my glass with water. Nice little spot to eat in the Midway area. Modern style and plating, great food smells coming in. The coffee was decent and they had packets of French Vanilla, and other various flavors for your tastes (alongside regular cream). Boo and I both ordered corned beef sandwiches, one with Swiss and one with American cheese, both of which were respectively good. Fries were also done well, with a flavor that reminds me of Brown's Chicken fries for some reason. Nice little throwback for me. I didn't want a red meat coma but I should have ordered the burger anyway; someone else had ordered it and it smelled amazing, coming on out. Server Rita was attentive (the breakfast sandwich she was eating during breaks looked really good too, actually), and owner Dale made his rounds to make sure everyone was doing okay. That one is important! Only drawback is that given the circumstances (I came around noon and I'd say it was less than a third full) I felt like I had spent more time there, overall, than I usually do at a restaurant or diner for breakfast. I could imagine that perhaps the kitchen is small, given the property's own size. Granted, I have no problem waiting for a good meal. Couldn't decide what I wanted. I asked them to surprise me. Had a meat lovers omelet and a 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy. Hit the spot perfectly. Best biscuits and gravy in the area. The gravy is just a bit peppery so it has a tiny kick. All the food is always great and unlike a lot of other places I've eaten at.... This has become our go-to place on Sunday mornings. Haven't been disappointed yet. Chef Dale's specials are always great. Pick one off the board. You can't go wrong. Was in this establishment on a Sunday at 12:30pm. Was seated by a little girl who also brought us water and utensils. Waitress did not come to our table for 15 minutes before we decided to get up and walk out. Small but great. Cafe 63 is a small neighborhood restaurant ran by a husband and a wife, both super friendly. The food is great and the specials are always changing things up. It is a BYOB and on Sunday's if the Bears are playing they have the game on and a blood Mary Bar with all the fixings. read more

LOVE this place! You will not be disappointed. The owner (Dale) and his staff was great and extremely accommodating. Took a reservation for us 1 day before when no others would. We went to celebrate my brothers birthday and we were a party of 12. It's a smaller place and they still made us feel warm and welcome. The food; AMAZING! We had Chef Dale's pork chop and I had the Bacon waffle. Kids had the Bacon milk shake and red velvet French toast. Great flavors and so good. Oh and did I say that this was our first time there! I feel like I'm being generous by giving them a 2 star review but alas I feel like I must so that maybe they see this review and make some positive changes. The hubby & I went a couple of times and unfortunately won't be back. Here's the short version: First visit: Amazing! Second visit: Total disaster! Strike 1: Still frozen biscuits, returned dish. Strike 2: ONE slice of unmelted Kraft cheese on skillet. Strike 3: Hair in skillet! Strike 4: Reheated mushy inedible biscuits. Strike 5: There won't be one because we're not going back. Our first experience here was wonderful. The place is small & cozy with a small parking lot in the back and the waitress was attentive. Hubby had the Apple pie French toast & loved it. I had the bacon milkshake (amazing!) and the 2 eggs with hash browns and bacon. Service was fast and food was good. We were excited to come back. Our 2nd visit was disastrous and is the reason we won't be back. The whole time we were there for breakfast, there were only 3 other occupied booths, so not very busy. Waitress was nice & we placed our orders, a Cafe Renee skillet & an order of biscuits and gravy. We waited about 15 minutes & the waitress brings out the biscuits & gravy. She apologizes for not bringing out my skillet but says she didn't want the hubby's biscuits to get cold. He starts digging in while I watch him eat & immediately see a look of disgust come across his face. The biscuits were still frozen! Strike 1! Waitress comes around with my skillet & "toast". When it's white & soft it's not toast, it's just white bread. Didn't say anything because well, it's just bread. Waitress apologizes because it took so long to get my food and says the chef made it with egg whites the first time so she made him redo it. Honestly I would've been fine with the egg whites if that meant actually eating together with my hubby. Hubby does tell the waitress about the frozen biscuits & she apologizes & says she will make chef make it again from scratch. Ok...so now I'm eating & he's just watching me eat. As I look down into my skillet there's exactly 1 slice of unmelted Kraft cheese. I realize this isn't a fancy place but really!? Not even real cheddar cheese? And it's not even melted! Strike 2! Alright whatever I'll just mix it together & make it melt myself. I pick up my first bite of food & what is on it??? A hair! Alright, clearly we're not meant to enjoy our breakfast today. Strike 3! Waitress comes around with the "redone from scratch" biscuits. Finally, we get to eat together! Nope! Hubby takes 2 bites and he's done. Biscuits were the same ones just reheated in the microwave making them mushy and you could just taste the freezer burn. Completely inedible. Bleh! Strike 4! We pretty much gave up & didn't say anything anymore. I don't know if the chef was just having a really bad day because some items from the other tables also got returned. Another patron did complain about the toast & another table also got their order wrong and returned it. I'm really not sure what happened between the first time we were here and today, our second visit. Waitress did come around with a small free orange juice for the inconvenience, but I don't think anything could've made up for today's breakfast disaster. We won't be back. read more

Went to the southside for brunch on the recommendation of my brother and I'm so glad he told me about this place. It is a perfect neighborhood gem. For a first timer I would suggest the corned beef hash skillet. Entirely different then the normal canned hash but delicious all the same. Only been here twice for breakfast. Food is top notch, but what really stands out to me here is how nice the staff treats their customers. Service is excellent. Dale the owner is a very cool guy. I mentioned something about a Chicago Fire Dept. Patch that was displayed at the front counter which brought back some great memories of my Dad, a 35 year veteran of the CFD who just recently passed away. Dale offered to get one for me. Went here for breakfast with my 5 year old son. Ordered a skillet and my son wanted the same but I didn't want to pay full price for one, since he will not be eating it all. Checked the kids menu and they have an option to have HALF of anything on the menu for a fraction of the cost. Love this idea and I think more restaurants should be doing this! Went once about a week ago with my wife with the intentions to have breakfast after hearing Café 63 has good food and it's close to our home. The day we went it was busy; however, there were still several tables and booths open. The guy who seated us said he would be right back with another table setting since there was only one; however, he walked away and never returned. After about 7 or 8 minutes, the waitress finally walked over to us (keep in mind, this place is very small so it's impossible not to see us seated there waiting). The waitress was about to serve us coffee when she informed us it was a 45 minute wait for our food! We declined coffee and left without ordering. I will give this place another try in the future, but this place will probably not stay in business long if people have to wait 45 minutes for food, even after seated and the place is not even at capacity. I got the feeling while in there that if it gets busy, they can't handle the crowd. I heard one of the waitresses openly complaining about how busy it was. Several other diners in the neighborhood have zero problem quickly whipping out a delicious breakfast when the crowds are heavy (Three Sons, Peaches, etc; etc.). I think the owners of Café 63 need to hire some help and experts who can handle crowds and multitask. Again, this place was not even full, so I can only imaging the wait for food if every table and booth was filled. I will attempt to give Café 63 my business one more time to see if things have improved. read more

Was working in area, heard Cafe 63 was a good mom & pop place for a good lunch. Menu wasn't anything extraordinary. But the food sure was. Ordered basic cheeseburger, may be the best burger I have ever had. My son had a BLT, basic stuff. Except it had 1 pound of bacon on it!! 12 slices to be exact. Soup was amazing too. Ordered basic chicken soup but it was anything but basic. Had lots of flavor, spices; tasted like a southern jambalaya. This place comes across as a regular, basic restaurant, it's not.
