Been visiting this restaurant periodically for over 20 yrs and have always enjoyed eating there. The owners were always present, hosting, making sure all was well. Went again last week and stood at the front desk for a few minutes as we watched a waitress tap in an order or something, her back to us, didn't bother to acknowledge us until she finished whatever she was doing. She finally greeted us and took us to our table. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was ok but there is definitely a difference, it wasn't bad but not as good as before. Didn't even get to eat. The booth was filthy. There was hair on the table and window next to the booth. But what topped it off was the dead roach under the table. Thank god the baby dropped her pacifier or we wouldn't have seen it. read more

I definitely recommend this place - local breakfast spot in Berwyn and it's one of my top favorites. Might not be #1 but it's always in the same conversation. Unfortunately, I haven't taken a recent picture (even though I've been countless times since) but the picture I attached is a Pineapple Burger & surprisingly it was delicious. I actually remember choosing this place for my birthday breakfast and as always, they do not disappoint. Service is wonderful too (good home-y vibes) and I really can't think of any complaints. This has been a family favorite for several years. They have both table and booth seating. My favorite dishes include the Mickey D's (BLT w/ turkey) and the skillets. Service is always great, they make sure to check in often. You will most likely have to wait to get seated on the weekends, my recommendation is to go early. The only non-dairy milk they have for coffee is almond milk and you will have to request it. read more

Popular breakfast place located near Cicero, IL. Other service here was outstanding! Seriously, everyone was fantastic. We were a group of 7 and they had us seated in no time flat. Once they knew there were seven of us , four of them sprang into action to get us seated. I was impressed! Every single staff person we encountered was truly a credit to this establishment. We were there for breakfast, they also serve lunch. You can get any menu choice all day long. The tables were a bit small for our group with a minimum of 2-plates each, juice, water and coffee. The table was a bit cramped. The food was tasty. My order was the Hawaii 50 Omelet, I had them make it in a skillet. There was no fuss in the request. I was a bit disappointed to see the hash browns were of a shredded variety and not the home fries shown in the photo. It was still very good. My Hawaiian treat was missing the pineapple, the waiter offered to bring some right away. Truly excellent service here. Pancakes were just right. Syrup was not warm. They offer many different breads if you go that route including swirled rye and raisin bread. Prices were reasonable and the restaurant was very clean. Tables were empty but I was left STANDING in the waiting area. Never offered a chair. I left. The hostess was rude & has no idea how to treat people. Especially someone who is disabled. Love love love this place. I've worked down the road from them for a number of years and we order from them regularly. The food is delicious, and always packed with love. The owners are friendly and you can tell this place has quite a following. I dine into sometimes and just love everything about this restaurant. The Mickey D's club is my favorite, and their chicken noodle soup is great. Had breakfast many times too, and it's awesome. Super clean and well run. Not too many places like this around anymore, they really were creative and had the ability to improvise during the pandemic also. If you're in the area it's a definite go to try. Service was excellent but the food left more to be desired. I had the steak skillet, it had little to no steak. It came with a slice of what I believe was American cheese that didn't even melt. I've been meaning to do a write up of this place for a long time. Alexander's while not unique itself as these diners used to be all over the place years ago, but it is special as it is steeped in tradition and old values. The people are warm, the prices are cheap, and most important of all the portions are HUGE. Plates are Alexander's typically are almost "family style dining" meaning they are huge portions that can be shared amongst two or three people. Inside is your usual wooden furniture laden diner, with a rather close and open kitchen in the back. It kinda feels weird with the staff just standing back there watching you as you eat, but it comes with the territory I guess. The place feels kinda cozy, even when it's almost empty. It feels like it got remodeled recently and the owner decided to take on a more "downtown modern" restaurant style which contrasts heavily with the food and customer base (i.e. a bunch of farmers and construction workers eating at a high-end restaurant while still dressed as farmers and construction workers) The waitress promptly came over and got our orders going. It took maybe 20 minutes to get my Hawaii Five-O Omelette and Blackberry Blintzes. Now I've never had ricotta cheese let alone Blintzes before, but these were AMAZING! You couldn't even tell it was Ricotta, me and a co-worker tasted it and she thought it was some kinda pudding or cream cheese. I was so full from the omelette (which was great as well) that I could hardly dig into the blintzes. Presentation overall was fantastic as well. Everything looked like it was made for a photoshoot, you hardly see places like this put so much effort into making the food look good which is great. Overall I'd visit this place again in a heartbeat to see what else they have to offer. 5 Stars read more

Had a wonderful breakfast experience at Alexander's. We were seated immediately and greeted at our table equally as fast. I had the cinnamon swirl pancakes with fresh blueberries added. Our server Tammy was uncertain if that would be ok with the kitchen but returned quickly with the good news. It as as if a Cinnabon and blueberry pancakes had a baby. Great combination! Best of all, the chef here appears to have a light hand with sugar; even with the topping that came with the pancakes. Hubby's Southern Benedict was also delicious. First review It's my first time here at Alexander Pancake House and the moment I walked in I am greeted with a smile from the receptionist and promptly seated. The waiter is at my table within 2 minutes and also greets me with a smile. I feel like I'm walking through a wedding procession line. Just point me to the open bar and this review is over . The spot looks modern and most importantly clean! I ordered the 2 eggs (sunny side) with hash browns and toast and it gets to my table within 6 minutes. Awesome! The first thing I taste are the hash browns which are a beautiful mix of crispy and soft, well seasoned and enjoyable. Actually the same thing can be said about the sausage links as well. I'll be damned, the sunny sides were actually sunny side. When i cut through with the fork it was like looking at an eggy lava cake. Only more yolky. I LOVE that kind of stuff! It's the oozing. It's gotta be the oozing. You can go where you like with that The toast was crunchy when it got to the table but because I'm such a FA, it didn't take long to get soggier than a ........ (help me out here, I can't think of an analogy) after putting 2 sticks of butter on each slice. The waiter came to check on me like 404 times and even called me BRO at one point. Made me feel cheesy. This place is a well oiled machine! Came in on a Sunday morning for breakfast, which was jammed packed. With about 10 groups ahead of us, was told it be about a 20 minute wait, but instead waited only 10min. As people left, tables were being cleaned and people were being seated. Service was fast and efficient. Even with the waitresses being busy, the hostess even came and poured our coffee. Melanie was our waitress and she made sure we always got what we needed before she left. As for food, I got the chorizo skillet and pancakes. Skillet was perfectly seasoned and pancakes fluffy. Nothing undercooked or overcooked, just right. Overall great experience! Great service and delicious food. Also forgot to mention, restaurant is brightly lit and clean. With most previous reviewers praising the food and prices I took my mother here for a Monday breakfast. We were promptly greeted, seated, and our waitress Donna came right over. Things were looking good so far. We ordered drinks. The first thing I noticed was there was a limit of ONE refill on soda and iced tea. Didn't seem like a huge deal until I received a 12oz glass packed with ice. That was about 5oz of liquid beverage. For $2.00 I'd expect larger glasses and at lease two refills. We all know that the cost of the liquid to them per glass is under .10 cents so why the super cheap a$$ policy?!? Mom ordered a Stickney Skillet. The description sounded good. She got a greasy undercooked mess with two slices of Kraft cheese on top. We both love Kraft cheese but don't really expect it as part of a quality dish at a restaurant. She ate half and gave up. Very disappointing. I ordered a Monte Christo sandwich that came with a cup of soup, fries, and half pickle. The soup I picked was Chicken Noodle. It contained chicken broth but no chicken and the pasta shells (noodles?) that were just over cooked mush. What a useless cup of "soup". The sandwich was marginal. The French toast bread was much too thin and provided little flavor. And the one thin slice of cheese did nothing to tell me it was there and the sandwich seemed just like a lump of room temperature turkey and ham. The fries weren't bad and were hot when the plate arrived but were cold by the time Donna brought the ketchup I requested. So lets talk about our waitress Donna. She introduced herself right away but then we rarely saw her again. And when she did show up she called us "baby" and "sweety". Not very respectful. I can't blame Donna for our terrible experience but she surely didn't help it. Those that have read my other reviews know I'm a stickler for clean and functional rest rooms. The rest rooms here are possibly some of the worst I've seen. Graffiti etched in to the mirror and all over the metal partitions. The sink was all cracked and pretty aged. The room itself had grime buildup on the toilet, walls, and floors. The door handle to get out was sticky. There are no paper towels, just a room temperature hand blower. We know not every visitor washes their hands before exiting and since the door opens in with a handle I prefer to use a paper towel to open it so my hands remain clean having just been washed. Not an option here. I will not be returning here. Not even worth a second chance to me. read more

Alexander's is awesome because it's within walking distance. After recently moving back to the suburbs from the city, one of the things I miss the most, hands down, is all the awesome brunch options. Alexander's was my first foray into the brunch options of the western suburbs. We were seated immediately and our very friendly server brought us waters. She also brought out another water glass when she noticed we only were ordering water. I definitely appreciated this. There were a lot of sweet options that looked appealing to me, including variations on pancakes, Belgium waffles, and crepes. There were also whole grain pancakes as an option, which I also appreciated. I ended up ordering the fresh strawberry pancakes for $7.50 (score!). I liked that the waitress double checked with me that I didn't want the fresh strawberries with glaze option. I'm extremely picky about my fruit on pancakes because I hate sugary syrups and compote fruit. These pancakes had fresh fruit, like advertised. The only reason I'm giving this review three stars instead of four is because I actually wasn't in the mood for sweet. I had wanted to get a skillet and I was excited there were a bunch of different options...until I saw that each comes with slices of American cheese. Like, I'm talking Kraft singles. That definitely made me lose my appetite for a skillet here! There weren't any other cheese options. If Alexander's steps up its cheese game, then it's well-deserving of four stars for friendly service, good food, and good prices! read more

No need for a box for this one they can feed to the trash and help feed one of the many stray alley dogs. Service 10/10 no dish to the staff or cooker great sides and other dishes I'm sure. But I was here to see the what the FUSS was about with this oven baked French toast that takes 12-13 minutes to cook my score of a FUSS 1-10 IS A MINOR FUSS you'd get from a 1 year old right after giving him his bottle he desperately wanted.
