This place is incredible! First off, they make the BEST! BLTs.. seriously. Its summer, you want something light but filling. This is a classic... order 2! I often order online for pick up, and they will send you a text when your order is ready. I wind up stumbling in and waiting, and the staff is always very friendly and super efficient. But today, I ordered the Eggrole app. OMG! Nothing like anything Ive had before. Crab, curry and some other delicious ingredients, with a wasabe aoli! I could order 4 of those for my entree! I lived in SF for 33 years and have had some pretty authentic Cinese food, but these? I. Am. Obsessed! Have been there for brunch too... Chicken and waffles to cure Saturday night? Of course. I'm not sure if I've reviewed before honestly. First time I've been out to lunch in a long while. There are no longer any seats at the bar, and the tables are nicely distanced. I ordered a meatball (which I've had before and LOVE!) - they charge $2.50 each, however, so you can decide if you think they are worth it. I also ordered a tuna melt - which was made with albacore tuna (a deal breaker if lesser tuna is used). The sandwich was really good, but also pricey to the degree that serving chips with it was cheap. I had some of my friends best and onion salad, which was very tasty. I was hoping for better soups - nothing was appealing to me. My friend ordered a Harvest Salad which had a large portion of chicken on top. Overall, a good meal - at a $65.00 price tag. read more

In a town of excellent locally-owned restaurants people are always claiming are "underrated", I think Cafe 59 might be the most underrated of all. All eaters will find something to love about this place, and they've got a list of well-crafted and unique cocktails to boot. The space is airy and open, with many of the building's artsy details as well as actual art on display. The polenta wings are straight fire. I do not have a better way to describe them. All three flavors are wonderful, but paprika-lime just barely edges out buffalo and barbecue. Do not leave this restaurant without trying these, regardless of whether you eat meat. Cafe 59 goes the extra mile with these by offering them in place of chicken fingers on some other menu items: the bourbon wrap and the chicken finger sub can both be ordered polenta style. Some other regular dishes I've enjoyed are the sweet and sour beets, hummus and zucchini sandwich, and the enormous Moroccan falafel salad, but I usually look to the specials menu for something seasonal and fresh. Later at night, this is a nice quieter option off the main Allen drag to catch up with friends and enjoy a reasonably priced cocktail. Lots of reasons to come through. read more

It takes a lot for a cafe-style restaurant to transform into a Friday/Saturday night destination, but Cafe 59 has navigated its multiplicitous role deftly! I've had many lunch meetings here over the past few months, especially after discovering that their free WiFi is pretty decent. It feels strange sometimes to return to the same building wearing "going out" clothes or Bills attire for a game, but therein lies the beauty of Cafe 59. Service is pretty decent. Sometimes food takes awhile to arrive, but it's worth it. The Cafe Salad is my favorite and has forced me to up my at-home salad preparation skills. At first, I thought that cooked carrots, lentils, smoked gouda, an egg, and other delicious, fresh veggies would be overwhelming for my pallet, but it all comes together simply and deliciously. Other food favorites here include the Reuben, which is legitimately one of the best in Buffalo. It's piled so high with meat and dripping in so much juice that an extra piece of rye bread on the bottom is necessary to hold it all together. It's amazing. The focaccia breadsticks and dipping oil that come with each meal are out of the world. Seriously, I could make an entire meal out of them, and sometimes I do. The hummus (which is shockingly only $6) comes with a ton of fresh veggies, some of that amazing bread, and at least a cup of expertly made, delicious garlic hummus. It's more than enough food to fill me up during lunch. I've been to Cafe 59 many times, and I'm sure that I'll be back again soon. Favorite place in Buffalo to get lunch when I am on Allen. The servers are friendly and welcoming, and can actually hold a conversation with you if you are alone at the bar. They have a lot of regulars that come in every other day and even sometimes every day. Great beer list, have some decent wines, and your normal liquor selection. I come in here for lunch about 5 times a month. They always keep the specials changing and I have never had a bad meal. They are vegan friendly but don't be afraid if you are a meat eater they have many options for that too. Staff does not turn over a lot as I have noticed the same people working here for a while now and they are knowledgeable about the food on the menu and the beers on tap. It is weird to say this is one of the only places I feel comfortable getting an alcoholic beverage during lunch? Favorite dish on the menu is Asian Shrimp Salad and can never go wrong with one of the soups on a cold winter day. If you haven't been here give it a try you won't regret it. read more

I was looking for somewhere I could get a healthy dinner but still have a good drink, and this place is perfect! I'm always looking for somewhere that offers a good selection of salads and wraps other than your corner coffee shop. Café 59 is a great option for healthy food and creative cocktails! They bring you out delicious fresh bread & oil. The bread was soft and warm and almost sweet... I seriously would go back for that alone! I started with the signature soup of the day- tomato basil. It was different than I expected, but in a good way! They made it there own with a little spice and the consistency wasn't as thick and creamy as your traditional tomato basil but that was good for me, felt lighter and healthier. I had the harvest salad for my entree- it was so good! Roasted turkey, field greens, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, gorgonzola, red onion and house balsamic vinaigrette dressing. They also offer it as a wrap which is nice. I am a salad-addict, I love all different combinations, styles and types of salads... and they have so many great options! My only complaint is definitely the service. A little bit slow, especially waiting for cocktails. I don't ever comment on someone's clothing but the waitress was dressed quite unprofessional- jeans and a big hoodie. I felt like it took the overall level of sophistication down a notch. Otherwise, the ambience inside was simple but nice with dim lighting and art on the walls. Excited to try this place. Met a few friends from Roswell for a drink and dinner. Excited to go to restaurant it's been a long week. My party arrived before me so I ask them to order on my behalf. I enter the restaurant and a very unappetizing, unkept looking man behind the bar greets me by saying in a loud voice we are closing. I explained that I had a table and he reiterated that the restaurant was closing soon. I sat at the table drank the glass of wine and asked waiter for a Togo container and the check. Unprofessional experience I get better service at Starbucks. I guess Starbucks employees like their jobs and appreciate working. The waiter seemed nice so I thought one star was appropriate. Got home just threw out the order. Lost my appitite. I suppose we should stick to chop house and COCOS, the staff are always warm and welcoming. Food drinks and friends should create a memorable experience not acid reflux. This is my experience at Cafe 59, into the trash. read more

We did a 10 day trip in August and had not been to Allentown in years. This was recommended to us by a family member so four of us went there on a Saturday night for a nice meal. We were seated quickly around 7pm (reservations were wise) and parked across the street for like $1 which was an unexpected plus. We sat in a side dining room away from the numbers and almost had the room to ourselves for the time we were there. Our server was definitely running ragged so we had to ask for things a few times, but it was fine given the pandemic and the short staffing. I was told the chicken fingers are there specialty, but I had a special (pineapple wasabi chicken sandwich) with potato wedges that was outstanding. Those wedges are a must in lieu of the standard chips that are offered. We ordered some bread that never arrived, but our server to his credit brought it just as we were checking out, so we ate it later. It was focaccia and just cooked and seasoned perfectly. I'd get that again. A fun place that I'd go to again next time we are in town. read more

Point is, I take chicken finger subs very seriously and have had my fair share of them over the years. Café 59's Chicken Finger sub is on a whole different level compared to anything else I've ever had. It's perfect. The roll is ideal, the greens are great, but the main event is the fingers themselves. They're bigger, more tender, and breaded better than what'd you get a typical sub shop. Glad I went with the "Hot" too. It's not going to torch your face off, but it has a really good taste to it. And at what, $10 bucks too? The price is about the same for a CFS as any other sub shop. The fish wrap was great too and same with the banana peppers. I appreciate them giving the starter bread in takeout orders. Highly suggest checking this place out if you're in the area. I grabbed it for takeout on a Friday night and the pickup process was quick and seamless. read more

I was told it comes with "chips" on the side.. what they meant is a little bag of Lays classic chips. Nothing exciting. If you want fires, it's extra. Also got the stuff banana peppers. It only came with two peppers and a couple slices of garlic bread and sauce on the sauce. The peppers were sooo hot it was hard to eat. After taking a closer look, it was completely covered in seeds. Almost inedible. I'd give the restaurant a try again because the subs were worth it. But I wouldn't get take out. I'd eat at the restaurant. read more

Got home from work tonight and my fiancé was craving a chicken finger sub because he read the Yelp email all about the best chicken finger subs... So we decided to come to cafe 59 since it was the closest one on the list. It's at 62 Allen, which is at the corner of Allen and Franklin. We walked in and decided to sit at the bar. It was very casual, so we were surprised to see such a huge menu! We decided to try a meatball and the calamari as our appetizers. The meatball in a chunky light sauce had a good flavor, although it was ground soooo fine that the texture was a bit odd. The calamari was coated in buttermilk and deep fried and came with a side of marinara sauce - it was yummy. My fiancé ordered the chicken finger sub and convinced me to order the risotto (with smoked Gouda, bacon and broccoli) since I couldn't decide what I wanted. Huge mistake! While his chicken finger sub was delicious (made with real chicken strips!), my risotto-not at all. The rice was undercooked, the Gouda cheese was just shaved on top and not even melted, and I didn't taste any bacon which made sense since I could barely see any. The worst part was that it had too much thyme in it - noooooooooo! The whole dish was just a disaster and after a few bites I just stopped eating. When the bartender came to collect the dishes he asked if I wanted a box and I said no thank you. he seemed surprised but said nothing. My fiancé asked if I was sure even though he knew how much I hated it, I said "yes, I didn't like it at all". The bartender didn't ask what was wrong with it or anything and just took it away. So, I took half a star off for the bad risotto and another half for them not recognizing that something was wrong. I normally don't like to make a scene by complaining, or I should say, my fiancé despises it. So, I don't ever complain at restaurants when something is wrong even though it's 100% legitimate simply because I don't want to deal with my fiancé getting irritated. Our meals came with complimentary bread and thyme infused oil with bits of garlic - can't tell what kind of bread it was but it was quite dense, so be careful not to fill up on it if you're already ordering carbs for dinner! All in all, it was a pleasant visit. The staff were friendly, service was prompt and all the food came or very quickly! We will definitely return, but I'll know to just stick with the subs or sandwiches next time! PS. The bar didn't have a foot rail so it was quite uncomfortable to sit at. My best friend and I came for lunch on Monday. It's really cute decor. Our server was very friendly. We both started with the cheddar, broccoli and cauliflower soup which was delicious!! We split the fried chicken sandwich. It was actually fried chicken fingers,not 1 big piece of fried chicken which I thought it was going to be. The BBQ sauce that was on it was very good, but the fingers themselves lacked flavor. I would like to go back and try one of their salads. Such a bad experience in all ways, but the food was abysmal. I have never written a one star review before because I really hate to slam a place; however, I wouldn't have gone here if someone had let me know how bad it was. My salad was tiny and cold. The fish was cold and obviously frozen. The coconut rice it was served on was cold and had pieces of raw cabbage in it. I gave one star for the broccoli that was, at least,edible. The service was detached, to put it kindly. There was one good thing: the noise level was low because there was no one else in the back dining room, which made it easy to have a conversation. One of my favorite places in Buffalo, by far and about the only consistent place I revisit when I eat out. This is a small cafe on Allen street, almost easy to miss unless you're walking down the street right next to it. Their menu is HUGE and they have a ton of vegetarian options. It's a great option if you and your group can't decide on what to eat. I usually get the turkey burgundy which never disappoints. The turkey is great, not poor quality processed lunch meat. They seem to be known for their chicken fingers which are also very good. I love the polenta wings as well! Their stuffed banana peppers rival my moms. I'm all about vibes when I walk into a restaurant and this place immediately was a stress free environment. The music was great. I was in town filming a tv show and honestly our meals are the only break we get. I ordered a salad and let me tell you this was the greatest salad I have ever had in my life. As a vegetarian, it's hard to get that quintessential 'Buffalo' flavor AND crispiness. I've found the solution - Cafe 59! Cafe 59 is one of my favorite spots for one specific reason - polenta wings! These vegetarian delights really hit the spot with a choice of BBQ or wing sauce and bleu cheese all together in a super tasty melange of Buffalo flavors that I miss so much. Stopped for lunch yesterday after a meeting at Buffalo General. What a great lunch. My business partner had a portobello wrap that she loved and I had a chicken finger wrap that was out of this world. The staff was a bit frazzled after a mad lunch rush but took really good care of us and made our lunch very enjoyable!! I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the area. Came here with my best friend, as we were just strolling through Allentown. We got to sit on the patio, as it was such a beautiful day. The energy and ambiance of the location and style place, mentally took you out of Buffalo. Amazing! For an appetizer i got the Smoked Mozzarella Balls (lol) and a Salmon Caesar Salad. The appetizer was super yummy, the smoked mozzarella gave it a subtle sweet taste which was surprisingly yummy. The reason for the 4 stars is the salad.. let me just start off by saying i very rarely say anything about food, i myself am a server and understand, BUT this salad made me lose my appetite. So for starters the croutons were rye bread croutons, i for one hate rye bread so total L for me. After i picked out the croutons i noticed the salmon had some bones still in it. Again i get it but ew. And then the final straw was the sand. Ok not real sand obviously (i hope) but this bite i took with salmon the texture was that of sand. The grit and crunch that just keep giving. Obviously i spat it into a napkin and asked for the check. I truly don't know what i had bitten down on but it sent me over the edge and I'm off Salmon Caesar salads for a while. Little did I know the BEST CHICKEN FINGER SUB would be located in a little restaurant on Allen St. I haven't had any other food items here, but I can say that their service and the above item is for sure 5 stars worthy. The food here is really good. I came here with some colleagues for lunch, we had a little over an hour to eat and get back to the office a mile away. We understand that there's a lunch rush, and food can take a little while. The frustrating part of the dining experience is that there were three employees working (including the person cooking in the back) and the main server was moving at a glacial pace. I'm reasonable, so I don't expect that you should be sweating like a racehorse running around, but geez!! I basically had to keep my eyes locked on him for the next steps of the process to make it back to the office five minutes before we were due back. So, my experience here was a bit mixed, but overall it was pretty nice. My group of friends (6 of us in total) went around noon today for a bite, and at first, it seemed really nice. The atmosphere is nice, with high ceilings and lots of natural light. The decor is rather eclectic/hipster-y and fun, and my friends and I were seated immediately. However, it quickly became apparent that there either wasn't enough staff, because it took nearly 20 minutes before anyone stopped by our table. Once we ordered, the bartender (possibly the owner?) brought us our drinks quickly, and he was even so thoughtful to bring me simple syrup instead of sugar for my iced coffee so it would mix better (the coffee was also very good). However, we went back to waiting, and it took another 45 minutes for us to get our food. Once we got the food, it was really good - I absolutely loved my "59 breakfast sandwich," and my friends enjoyed their omelettes as well. But again, it took a while to get the check after we asked. So I guess the TLDR here is that the food is really good, but the service (at least on some days) can be super slow. read more

This place just does not disappoint! I have been back here many times and have tried quite a few of the menu items. One item I make sure I have with every meal, the potato wedges. Oh. My. Gosh! The potato wedges are phenomenal. Crispy on the outside, soft and warm inside. I love their ranch dressing for dipping. They heat up well, on that rare occasion I have some leftover. I must admit. I was a skeptic. Polenta wings? I am born and raised in Buffalo. I am a carnivore. I like to think I know some of the best places in and around town to get real wings (and I do) but why not try these meatless ones? They were extraordinary! I have tried the Spicy Buffalo and the Pitted BBQ. I prefer the BBQ but wouldn't turn down the Buffalo. I love their BBQ sauce so much, that is how I order my fingers when I get their Chicken Finger Sub. It is huge. I always have half to take home for lunch the next day or dinner later that evening. The Risotto of the Day is always a huge success! I have had two different kinds and loved both. Whenever visiting Café 59, you can't be in a hurry.
