Mama Lee's was closed. So Cafe 48 was our alternative spot. It's new so we didn't know what to expect. The first thing I noticed was the menu was too small for me to call this place a Hong Kong style cafe. The menu needs to be developed more. It's missing a lot before I can truly call this place a Hong Kong Style Cafe. There is no table service. You order and pay at the counter and you pick up the food and sit at one of the tables. Which is fine. Less complicated this way. The items we did order were very tasty. The Chinese sausage/bacon fried rice was very tasty and I would come back for this dish. It was portioned just right for the price. The ingredients were balanced in this dish. I ordered the Beef Pad Thai. I was just hoping it would be good and didn't expect it to taste anything like a real pad thai. I was just expecting a noodle dish with beef, rice stick noodles and maybe a tangy, sweet component. I was satisfied with my dish. It was not tooo sweet. And the best thing is how generous they were with the protein in my dish. I was quite happy for the price I paid, it was about the $8 mark. The sauteed udon with chicken and vegetables was tasty too. I saw Singapore Rice Noodles on the menu but do not understand why there is no Har Moon Chow Mei Fun (house special sauteed rice noodles) on the menu. Basically the same ingredients, just different seasoning. As I mentioned they need to expand their menu to include more dishes before I consider this a Hong Kong style cafe. A small neighborhood shop to stop by for a quick eat. Its cheap and quick, the food isn't great but gets the job done. They provide a variety of menu options and the food is hot and cooked with care as you can see. The shop is actually very tidy and clean. NGL they added mayo in my baccon egg and cheese and i was mad about that bc i HATE mayo but they dont cheap out on ingredients they have me a nice portion of baccon and egg! And look at that club sandwich very fancy! So i would say this a great shop for a quick eat but u should probably go somewhere else if u have leisure. Not bad! read more

I wasn't feeling well so I ordered the pork and preserved egg congee. I got the large size and it really hit the spot. It was ready when my husband got there. So glad he didn't have to drive to Flushing for this! What a gem in this neighborhood. Need to order more from here when I'm feeling better. read more

Excited to try this new neighborhood cafe. Came here with a few friends and empty stomachs ready to try everything! It was a soft launch opening day so their full menu wasn't available, but that turns out to be a good thing. Otherwise we would've ordered too much food. Their rice rolls weren't available which was a bit disappointing. My friends and i shared a condensed milk & peanut butter toast-which was spot on, the shrimp pattie-which was good, the beef soy sauce noodles-which was only meh, and the eggplant chicken with salty fish-BOMB! The toast was really good and fresh with just the right amount of peanut butter & condensed milk served hot, but the eggplant chicken with salty fish definitely won me over. I would definitely come again just to eat this dish. Can't wait till their full menu is available to try their HK style milk tea and rice roll with mixed sauce. Actually I think it's better than tea staton. They have seats, some breads cakes,not much but tasty. The food is 5 stars better than tea station. Breakfast set B C were yum, the price is only $. We will always go there if we want something to eat but not main meal! I hope they can have some dimsum. read more

I was recommended this place from a friend. The interior of this cafe is similar to Chinatown bakeries. I was craving for a black pepper rib over rice but they didn't have it, so instead I got black pepper pork chop over rice. It was delicious! I also got an order of curry rice roll with pig skin. It tasted very good especially with the curry. The staff there was very friendly, she gave me a bunch of suggestions on what dish to try. She also offered me a free dessert from their dessert menu. This place is a big knock off for a hk style cafe. I ordered a popcorn chicken and inlcluding tax it was around 6 something, and I think they rip me off more then lays potatoe chips. Lmao, 2 dollars went to the air in this container. Also got the chicken lomein, but I think they should've named it chicken stir fry "spaghetti" cuz that's the kind of noodles they use. Their flavored milk bubble tea was absolutely horrendous! They basically put powdered flavoring into water and mix it with milk! I ordered the strawberry milk tea and it was so disgusting that I was not able to finish it. The powder didn't evenly dissolve with the drink and what you get is an overly thick bubble tea that tastes like liquid medicine. Had seen this place many times, since I always eat at Mama Lee's and as you can imagine Mama Lee's is closed today. With that said, we figure we would be ok to give it a try for take out. I ordered the salty fish and chicken bento box with the egg. Sadly, the fish was over salted, the chicken had no taste, the egg looked dry and the rice was a bit hard. Honestly, I didn't even eat the egg, I end up just leaving it on the side. The eggplant and peppers we're ok but nothing was standing out. While waiting for my food, I realized that at the front door the letter grade was missing. When I looked up the letter grade online they just had an inspection done on 8/31/17. As of today the grade is pending due to a 26 point violation. This made me uneasy but at this point it was too late to take the order back since I had already paid for my order All I can say is that due to no grade and the fact the quality of the food was none existing. I will not be back anytime soon until a grade is posted. It seems like a shame that the place looks clean in the front has so many violations in the back of the house were food safety is a major concern. read more

Drove by many times and decided to try it out tonight. We ordered the eggplant with chicken and salty bento box, wonton noodle soup and seafood stir fry noodles. After the order my daughter wanted a bubble tea so we got one while we were waiting. Bubble tea made from powder was soooo sweet I almost went into diabetic shock. While we were waiting we looked for the restaurant rating which was no where to be found. looked online and it shows 26 point violation. Had we seen this before we would not have ordered. The food was mediocre at best. Wonton soup...everything was mushy and the wontons were lacking in meat. Even the choi sum was mushy. The stir fry noodle was tastless and the seafood was mostly fish cake. Wish they would just charge more and gave you actual real seafood. After reading an article from a food blog recommending this cafe, we decide to give it a try. We ordered the recommended curry fish balls, squid, and pork skin. The curry sauce was so tasty and it was well absorbed by the fish balls, squid, and pork skin. We also ordered a French toast and satay beef mei fun soup. The French toast had peanut butter fillings in between the breads and it was served with butter and maple syrup. It was so tempting for the taste bugs. The satay beef in the mei fun soup was very juicy and tender. Definitely another must try item. My daughter ordered a mango milk tea with star-shape mango jelly. The drink came out so pretty. The overall experience was great. We will definitely revisit this cafe again. read more

I came here twice in the last week the food is very good. My wife got the congee chicken and she liked it a lot. I tried the pad Thai the lo mein and other vegetable dishes do you lo mein was really good however the pad Thai seemed very floury and thick for lack of better term. It's got easy parking though so I think I may be coming back here when wife wants something quick to go. They get food prepared in under 5 minutes and they have a nice small eat in area. read more

One of the best HK style cafe in Queens. Went there with a group of friends this morning, waited a little bit for table. Very easy street parking. Servers were friendly. The place was rather clear, unlike some other cafe in flushing. We ordered a few regular breakfast sets. The eggs was perfectly cooked and the congee was mouthwatering. My husband and I have been exploring food around bayside area and came across Cafe 48 for brunch. We were pretty happy we found this place. Their pan fry shrimp in tofu wrap and pan fry noodle are my favorite! The sauce for the shrimp was so deliciouly creamy and tasty. The pan fry noodle was all crispy, unlike other places where only a portion of the noodle was crispy while the rest was soft or soggy. My husband loved the curry fish ball and pork skin. I don't normally like curry but have to say it is pretty good. We ended up packing the curry broth back after finishing all the fish balls :-) Overall, it is a nice little cafe with good food for a quick meal! I highly recommend. read more

Decent priced, good portions. My only caveat is that they really have a hard time taking orders over the phone. Whether a language barrier or not, even ordering by item number on their menu, I always need to repeat and explain thoroughly so to ensure they understand. They've changed their menu several times, so reconfirm your dish instead of assuming the item number is matching what they think they have. read more

We used to like this place but the quality of food and drinks have gone downhill since the COVID pandemic. They no longer offer breakfast set, which is not a big deal. However, the food quality took a big hit for whatever reason. I got used to stop by here often just for the HK milk tea but I was extremely disappointed. They basically used tea bag HK tea. Anyone who love HK milk tea knows that the tea back tea is the worst. They still charged the same price for it and I was so disgusted by the tea. I don't think I'll step in there ever again. This place recently opened up earlier this month! I was excited to try another Hong Kong style cafe in the neighborhood. The place is very spacious, clean and has the AC turned high (perfect for hot summer days). The owners and workers are very friendly and are still trying to learn as they go. They're always opened to suggestions and how to improve their dishes. I've tried a few dishes here but I have to say my favorite is the Thai styled pineapple fried rice. It was loaded with delicious ingredients such as sliced up green peppers, chicken, shrimp, and ham for the price of $7.95. I appreciated the amount of meat that was in the dish and the portions have been getting bigger. Another good dish would be the General Tsos Chicken. The sauce was great, not too sour or sweet. All in all, this place is still new and has some things to work on. But service was great, and the meals are improving more and more throughout the month. read more
