The fish and chicken are deep fried and tender and the sauce and cheese has the perfect savory depth, both are comforting and full of flavor. This was my second time visiting Cafe 48, and it definitely didn't disappoint. I was starving and dove straight into the food before even thinking about photos. After hunting down a legit HK Cafe spot. This one would be closest to the taste that I was looking for. Their curry fishballs, squid, and pork skin was good. A bit on the saltier side. Not sure if it's the salt that Bayside Restaurants are using but notice that majority of the spots I'd go to seem to be on the heavy handed in the sodium department. The curry bento dish had chicken, eggplant and potatoes in it served with rice. The pork chop bento dish had red and green peppers, onions and the frozen mixed carrot and peas over rice. The dishes come in 2 sizes. Bento or entree. The one pictured was bento. There serve a variety of toast items that can be breakfast or lunch. They have hot and cold drinks. Hard to choose . I ordered a preserved egg and pork congee along with a fried cruller. They both really good. A bit pricey at over $12 for the two items, but I was really in the mood for it and this place was right around the corner from where I was running my errands. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how tasty the food was. There's always a sweet spot for me to have HK style fast food, but not many places do it well. I ordered the fried fish over baked spaghetti. The fried fish was really crispy and perfectly seasoned. The baked spaghetti tasted exactly like how I had it when I was younger. However I would recommend splitting this with someone, because after chowing through 3/4 of it, the acidity of the tomato sauce starts to overwhelm the taste buds. We've frequented this cafe a number of times while passing through the nabe, but I hadn't yet tried their basic dim sum offerings, which they sell for $5.50, and they state are made fresh, not frozen. While it's not as perfect as those found in large restaurants, their offerings are actually quite large and very savory. For the price, portion size and taste are very good for take out. Even though they only serve about 5-6 dishes, they sell out quick. Nice to see they survived the pandemic. They now how a few socially distanced seats available if you want to eat our food immediately. However, their bathroom is not in service for customers, so you can't linger here. read more

Had in line with nyc customer service, said person never ever greeted customers be it regular long term or random walk-ins. 3 stars - Thanks to a fellow Elite Yelper (shout out to TC), I bookmarked this place based on his review. It is indeed a good local hub for quick-fire Hong Kong style meals. It's menu covers a bit of everything - noodle soups, rice dishes, or baked spaghetti. It also has a variety of vegetarian options, some seafood and meat. The one main draw for me, I like how you can order breakfast type foods any time of day -- I am a fan of the "French Toast". On this first visit, I really enjoyed my baked tilapia (you can choose red or white tilapia) with cheese, served over spaghetti. The tilapia was breaded and not over cooked. The sauce was a cheesy cream based sauce, not too rich, reminds me of an Alfredo type sauce. So with their reasonably priced menu, you can feed a family of 4 for under $30. Note: they have limited seating (approx. 20 seats). And if you go in the colder months, you will have to keep your coat on. With the foot traffic in and out, the door does not always close all the way. Suggestion to management - get an exterior sidewalk extension - a covered entry door. I've been frequenting Tea Station for quite some time now ever since they opened and the only reason why I came to Cafe 48 was because they were closed today for some unknown reason, which left me with no choice since this place is just down the block from them. There were plenty of metered spaces in front of here and no doubt, this cafe is much nicer, more spacious with a good amount of seating and definitely way more updated/ advanced than Tea Station with the dessert/ pastry display cases, touchscreen registers and digital menu boards. Unfortunately, I could not say the same about the food nor service. My only options were the breakfast Set A or B and I chose B- congee of the day + HK style chow mein, which comes with a small coffee or milk tea but I opted for the iced HK style milk tea for $1.25 more. The service was mediocre at best, the lady who took my order was very disorganized and doesn't know how to calculate ($101.25-$6.25=$95~it's not rocket science!). As for the food, the milk tea did not taste like HK style and was watered down. The fish congee was the congee of the day and that tasted too watery with 3 pieces of fish fillet, which tasted decent. The worst was the chow mein, it was hard, dry and bland. Enough said, I will not be back again. read more

Great place to catch a quick bite. The only down side is that the employees LOVE to gossip, with customers and each other. They literally stand around and talk forever so service is super slow. They don't even move to the side to gossip. Then stand wherever they are, even in the middle of the store or in front of their counters so it makes seeing the physical selection super difficult. Their entire menu is tasty. HK style sandwich BLT or spam and eggs is pretty good. their dimsum isn't a big selection but the flavor is good. I like their shrimp dumplings and sticky rice shumai. I love their hainan rice and beef flat noodle and those are my general go tos. They are pricier than flushing but it's also 20 minutes closer than downtown flushing sans traffic hours.
