This place is awesome! The owner is a spitting image of Herve Villechaize. It is worth stopping by just to see him The first time I visited, I had lunch. I had the Cincinnati chili and a cheese steak. They do both of these dishes right. My second trip, I had a cinnamon roll, shot of Rumpleminze, and a Guinness, all outstanding. I go to Cafe 163 regularly with friends. It's an enjoyable local spot with tasty food. It has sort of a "Cheers" quality about it, with Jeff playing the role of Sam Malone. This review is not about the restaurant, however, it's about the new Cafe 163 burger. I had it for the first time this evening with avocado and a side salad. The burger is cooked on a griddle, not a grill, and is well-seasoned, with lettuce and onion on a fresh soft bun. The meat was moist and flavorful with crispy bits around the edges. The burger was delicious! It's a great, full flavor, traditional burger I will order again, and again. Cafe 163 has heavy burger competition nearby so I can understand why there was no burger on the original menu. But now that they offer a delicious and unique burger they can sleep well at night knowing that they have distinguished themselves among the multitude of burger offerings in the valley. read more

The decor is nice and the food is pretty good, but the service leaves much to be desired, which impacts the overall experience. They seem to employee many very young and unexperienced servers. We had issues with our bill and it was just brushed aside. As a local, I want to like it and I want to go back, but after a couple of issues, I am unsure that I will. read more

My wife and I went up the hill to have a weekend alone. I have to say that we found a great place tucked in behind the gas station. The food was excellent, the gluten free pancakes were very good, I still think gluten free things brand is a touch better, but with our experience of mountain food being not all that great, café 163 did an excellent job. My wife and I went there today for breakfast. I was told that there was a 10 to 15 minute wait. This was odd since I saw at least 3 tables open, and we were the only people waiting to be seated. After waiting for 5 minutes, a party of three walked in, and the hostess immediately sat them down at a table that seats 4. I was shocked and said to the hostess that we have been waiting for a table for five minutes. She said that the manager won't let her seat 2 people at a table for 4, but will allow her to seat 3 people at a table for 4. This is ridiculous, especially since there was no one else waiting to be seated. I have previously given this place high marks, but I won't be eating there again. read more

We live in Edwards and are frequent customers to Cafe 163. We have never been disappointed. Their breakfasts are very good, light and fluffy pancakes, perfectly done eggs, The other breakfasts look yummy as well. Their sliced, crisp potatoes are wonderful. For lunch we really enjoy the blackened tilapia sandwich. It is excellent. The chili is also very good. There are many good choices on the menu but since we like the tilapia sandwich so much we have not branched out yet. The staff is exceptionally friendly. We stopped in for breakfast on Sunday on our way to a hike further out in Edwards. It was busy at 10am and we were quoted a 15-20 minute wait but we decided to sit at the cool concrete bar instead which worked out great. We started with coffee and newspapers and then the three of us chowed down on a breakfast burrito and two omelets - build your own greek (with rotisserie lamb) for my husband and mushroom, avocado and goat cheese for me ($10 each). Holy moly, it was one of the best omelets I have EVER had. I'm normally one to only eat half of a huge omelet and save the rest for another day, but I knew after I took my first bite that I was devouring my entire plate. Which I did...easily! Actually, it was quite painful afterward but totally worth it. My sourdough toast came with homemade strawberry jam and I loved the thinly sliced breakfast potatoes. Every bite was perfect. My only and very minor complaint was that I was burping up oil from the potatoes all day long. As a lover and eater of many big breakfasts, that has never happened to me in my life. But everything else was delightful - plentiful free parking, outdoor seating, full bar, friendly servers, modern/comfy decor and a small but just broad enough menu. read more

We have been for both brunch and now dinner. It is definitely busier for breakfast and everything we had was tasty, though not the best breakfast I've ever had, it was good and I would come back for it. Dinner was tasty as well, a good alternative to some of the busier spots in town as it is tucked away and few seem to know it's open for dinner. Had breakfast here with some friends on our way home from beaver creek. Had a great breakfast. Don't miss out on at least a side of biscuits and gravy. Side note. I left my digital SLR camera at the table and didn't realize it until I was over 2 hrs away. They found it and the manager Jeff was willing to ship it to me in California the very next day. Best customer service ever. It's very refreshing to know you can still have faith in people you don't know to do the right thing and go out of their way to help you out. Great food. Bad service. They seemed to be understaffed. Although the waitress.. or waitresses (we were served by several different girls during our meal and were never really sure who our server was) were friendly and accommodating at the table, we could overhear them arguing behind the bar. Seemed very catty and immature, and not to mention unprofessional! The average age of the servers seemed to be about 19, so maybe that explains the immaturity and unprofessionalism, but I still don't think it's an excuse. I would probably go back to Cafe 163 for the fresh, amazing food, but I would avoid going during their peak business hours. read more

after living in the valley for 3 years now i thought i had been around the block and tried all the local food the valley had to offer. just today i took my first visit to cafe 163, and i must say i am disappointed. the food is way overpriced and i thought hey maybe the quality speaks for its self... i mean it does have 4 stars on yelp.. i couldn't have been more wrong. after waiting more than 15 min for my 2 eggs any style, they came out cold along with most of the rest of the plate. i will not be returning to this restaurant again, and i will not be recommending it to the many visitors i service at my job. read more

Very rude hostess. We were a party of 12 and unwilling to seat us. Told us it would be 60-90 minutes before she could sest us. This was at 11:15 AM this morning. In a he mesntime 14 people left. A little town, A little cafe, A big meal, and A big smile. This is one of my favorite places to just pop in for a cappuccino or chai... or a little bubbly when needed. I usually sit at the bar and enjoy the company of who ever else pops in. When hungry, usually after watching someone else's food go by and smelling something like the veggie chili- I order. I'm stuck a creation a friend and I came up with. We call it the "Pile". (They will know if you order it, but not on the menu) The best potatoes ever, add eggs, spinach, cover in veggie chili and add avocado and tomatoes on top- cheese is optional. Yes, addictive. Lunch, I love the veggie burger (handmade like nothing I have ever had anywhere else) with fries and a side of veggie chili to dip, please. Or can't go wrong with the cobb salad. AND NOW DINNER! Humm... whatever it is- get a side of mac n cheese and ask about dessert (bread pudding is a no brainer, really good). I don't eat meat (a great place for vegetarians) but when I bring my kids (14 &18) they devour the fried chicken! Yes, I'm a local and Yes I love the owners of this place and everyone who works there and I am writing this review because the food is really is great, yet even more... it just feels good in there. Nice place, excellent staff, great food esp the French toast with cornflakes crust. My only complain was the coffee, I was expecting a lot more since it was a cafe. Patience is a virtue at Cafe 163. My party and I walked in and were greeted by and friendly and smiling staff. The coffee was great and the menu was creative!
