I've been coming here for years for late night eating or casual drinking with friends just to do a little catching up. The ambiance is pretty chill. The interior décor is trendy. Service can be a hit or miss here. Sometimes, it can be extremely lack lusting or it can be good. I think the waitresses are better than the waiters here. One night when it was guy male servers working, my date and I waited for 15+ minutes to have someone greet our table. One thing for me, I don't expect for outstanding service when dining here so that'll obviate some of the disappointment in the end. I always wonder what it is that draws me back to them... but HEY! It is Bellaire (china town) so I guess it can be expected. The menu is extensive. There are a lot of varieties to choose from. I normally try something new every time I venture in. The kim chi undon is pretty good. Happy hour used to be good, but it has changed over the years. A lot of items have been removed from it. So the happy hour is just "ok." The food isn't the best and service can be sketchy at times, but it's a nice place that stays open until 2 in the morning if you want to hang out with friends late at night. Cafe 101 is popular amongst my friends and a nice place to catch up with friends. They have an extensive list of mostly Taiwanese based food, but since there are so many options, all the food seems average. Their milk tea tastes just like frothy milk, and their new kimchi fries has a base of potato wedges rather than the crispy oily fries that I like. But the bulgogi meat was good, as well as the Taiwanese chicken nuggets. The service is good too, and their waitresses are attentive to our water supply and kept checking up on us. read more

I love this place. I specifically come here for sushi (sashimi 99% of the time) because it is so delicious! The sashimi here is always so fresh and sliced very well. Presentation is amazing (although that doesn't really matter because I dominate whether it's presented well or not) and the cuts of fish you get are very decently sized. If you are looking for a platter to "try" out both sushi and sashimi, the love boat is priced very decently for the amount you get. It has a tornado (?) roll, sashimi, AND nigiri and I'd say it's great for sharing with a friend or special someone. Also, if you are looking to try a sauce beyond the typically soy sauce, try the spicy mayo (sriracha aioli if you want to get technical). It tastes amazing with the fish, and it's consistent and perfect every time. Now for service, the service is awesome. Waiters and waitresses are attentive and they are usually very quick with the order. There is one specific woman that I would like to mention though, I do not know her name but she is very extremely kind every time. She is Vietnamese and extremely short and petite and adorable and has medium length-long black or dark brown hair and my boyfriend and I love her. Her service is amazing whether we are dining in or placing the order to-go. Sometimes placing an order through the phone is difficult because the place is loud which makes it hard for the staff to hear you but she is always so patient and assists you regardless. Thank-you. The first night we came, this place was packed and so we came back the next day for lunch. Didn't really understand the hype honestly...The food was decent...quite disappointed with the flavoring considering I'm a Vietnamese and this restaurant is an "asian fusion." I love this place but I just found out recently that you cannot order any of their lunch specials over the phone between 240 and 3 o'clock they either put their lines on hold or do something because you cannot get through to place an order, it gives a recording stating that you cannot call this line as the party is on the phone and that's sad because I really like this place Monday Wednesdays and Fridays I get off early so I don't take a lunch and I try to call them between that time to order something to go or I'll stop and eat something, it's kinda disappointing that they would do that. Came here with my cousin while he was in town for a Tuesday afternoon lunch at 1 PM. The place wasn't too crowded at all and we were seated immediately. There is a Cafe 101 at UH so I anticipated this Bellaire location to be similar -- quick takeout, casual setting, good study/social spot. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised that it was an actual sit-down restaurant, where a waiter/waitress takes your order. The entire place was super trendy with changing colored lights, cool velour couches in the waiting area -- just really nice aesthetics. The place looks very modern & "upscale", while the food is affordable and the menu vast (about 4 pages total). Ordered the Pepper Chicken, 2 salmon rolls, regular milk tea and oreo milk tea. Both entrees were lunch specials. $30 total including tip. Great plating for all 4 items. The milk teas came in cute mason jars. Relatively affordable for its portions, but the 2 salmon rolls were super small to constitute for a meal. If you order, would recommend you order it with an appetizer or another entree. I couldn't finish half of the pepper chicken (it comes with rice and a small side of veggies, cold noodles, and an eggroll) and took it home. Overall, the food is decent, but not to die for. However, the ambience, the set-up of the restaurant, and how good (and cute!!!) the milk teas were -- I would definitely return with friends again to hang out or even have it as a nice date spot. It's a cool lounge-y type of restaurant to try if you're having a night out with some friends. But if I'm going to a restaurant, I'm more focused on the food. Checked this place out over the weekend and it was good. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. They have a huuge menu so you're sure to find something for everyone in your group. I tried the Salt and Pepper Short Ribs and while they had good flavor, a lot of the ribs were very fatty so a lot were left on the plate. This place is a little unexpected in the middle of Chinatown. It's trendy and hip, catering to a younger crowd. It was not at all busy, but it is Sunday evening. There was some confusion and it took a minute for us to get seated despite there being empty tables everywhere. The menu is pretty extensive and covers mostly Americanized Chinese food. I ended up with the Triple Delight which was tasty and decent size. I was full by the end. The caramel coffee was shockingly sweet but once the ice melts, it's bearable. The staff didn't have many words to say but was helpful enough. Please turn off the music. It's not helping any. Overall, I'd say the food is average and priced about right. Huge assortment of food - from appetizers to soups to entrees, desserts, cocktails, milk teas. Too much that I felt overwhelmed and could not decide what to order. I finally decided on the pork chop (katsu style - deep fried pork chop) topped with onions, sprouts, and carrots in black pepper sauce. Rice came along with it, of course, and an eggroll, seaweed, sprouts, and a sweet dessert drink served on separate dishes. The pepper sauce was a little salty, but still yummy and great value. I don't know what to call it, but the 'oomph' wasn't there for me at Cafe 101. Like a performance review (LOL), it just met expectations, not exceeded. I mean we arrived at 9pm and plenty of empty tables, yet we still had to wait for 5 min to get seated. Eh? And the huge menu just threw me off. Chef Ramsey doesn't like restaurants that serve so much different types of food and I feel the same. Like is all that food readily available really 'fresh'? Let me start off by saying that they have a pretty massive menu. It took me a few minutes to really look through it before I could decide what I wanted. Finally I decided on the Japanese Curry Chicken Nuggets which comes with steamed white rice, a side dish of what looked like a seaweed salad and a sprouts salad, an eggroll, and a dessert of tapioca and red bean. That was so delicious! The curry was so tasty combined with the fried nuggets as were the side dishes. To finish everything off with the dessert was amazing and filling. We also ordered a Yogurt Saki to accompany our meal, and it became one of my favorite versions of saki. I had never had anything like that before, and I really enjoyed the creamy taste of it vs some of the other flavored saki i've had before at other establishments. All in all, the meal was very satisfying. As far as the restaurant, its a pretty big place with plenty of seating. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant is clean. My only real complaint is when our food was being served, instead of walking around to the side of the table to serve the people across from me, they were serving the food over my head. I can only imagine that hot bowl of beef noodle soup spilling on me. So, if you can brave the crazy driving in that part of town and the even crazier parking lot, Cafe 101 is definitely worth a try. read more

You have lots to choose from for different drinks, bubble tea, shaved ice, and their speciality drinks, sushi, noodles, hot pot, and chef specialties. I've tried the fried tofu, satay beef fried noodle w/ water cress, shaggy dog, and kalbi ribs. The food is pretty descent and comes in good proportions. For the price, it's pretty reasonable for what's offered. I love the happy hour deals from 4p-7p and the reverse happy hour from 10p-2a. My favorite are the bubble tea options. Avoided the sushi based on reviews citing it as being meh and nothing special. From the glimpse of sushi I caught, I'd say twas a good decision. If you want sushi in the area, just go to Hokkaido instead Service could have used some improvement. My friends were looking for a late night place to grab a bite and Cafe101 was recommended by a friend in Houston. Cafe101 is a very modern looking cafe serving a pretty large variety of Asian dishes. Having eaten BBQ earlier I wanted a light bite so I ordered an appetizer portion of fried spicy fish balls and a fruit shaved ice. Fish balls were good, typical Asian fish balls pan fried and accompanied with kimchi that was really fresh and spicy. To offset that spice, I ordered the fruit shaved ice. This was a monstrosity in size. It really is enough to feed 4+ people. Very generous portions of watermelon, kiwi, bananas, strawberries, and a scoop of ice cream topped the glacial portion of shaved ice. I could also taste some simple syrup drizzled over the shaved ice. It's primarily water so prepared to be hydrated! Some solid late night food for the club/bar crowd. read more

Cafe 101 is a great place to go to if you want very affordable food pretty late at night with friends. I usually just stick with their reverse happy hour appetizer specials that are about $4.50 a plate. I usually go with the Chicken nuggets, Fried Tofu, and fries. Nothing too unique. It fills my tummy up. There's usually some sort of sporting game going on the Big projector screen, but if you are there long enough.. maybe past midnight.. they will start to play Kpop videos. If that is something you fancy. They also play music in the background which can get pretty annoying if you are in conversation with friends. I think this place is too loud to bring a date, however. It gets fairly busy from 8pm - 11pm.. so their might be a bit of a wait if you wanna go around these times. It's not too bad at all though. read more

Went there to eat yesterday and have to say, the service here sucks. It was my third time here and the first was excellent so I wanted to come back. But the last two times my friends and I came, the waitresses were terrible. The only time we saw our server was when she took our order. It took us 15 minutes just for us to get our check at the end because our waitress would not pay attention to us! Literally, she took our order, did not give us her name. Walked around for an hour and never came up to say "what else can I do for you" OR refill our water. It's not like she didn't pass our table! She had to to get to the sushi bar!! What's funny was that there was another table sitting next to us, a couple, who also had her as a server and they never got checked on either. She just took our order and that was the last we heard from her. I don't know her name just that she's Chinese, had bangs and wears her hair in a ponytail. I often see her there when I visit.
