Best pizza in Union Sq- and I've tried them all. That goes a long way in my book, thus the four stars. Haven't had the subs and the salads are weak, but the pizza is damn good. Would have gone five stars but the hours suck, closing at 9 and not open at all on Sunday (Sunday and after 9pm are my prime pizza eating times). Also they don't take credit cards. I often spend on credit or debt cards and don't often have cash on me- they have lost more then a few sales from me due to this policy. It would also be cool if they had beer, but alas. read more

My girlfriend and I have lived in the neighborhood for a year, and have always passed by Caesar's without going in. From the outside, it seems like a run-of-the-mill sub/pizza joint, and nothing grabbed us as unique. But, then my girlfriend saw a sign outside that touted their homemade meatballs, and we decided to give it a try. As we walked in, the owner (running the counter and making the food) gave us a really nice welcome, and pointed out the highlights of the menu. The food was delicious (my girlfriend said it reminded her of "her grandmother's meatballs"), and we after we ate we chatted with the owner for a few minutes, and he's a genuinely nice guy. Very nice. My favorites are the Pizza (anchovies, olive), Steak bomb sandwich and the Chicken Parmesan ..good food, good service. Parking can be a little tough (as is in most Somerville/Cambridge area). I didn't expect the level of quality and freshness of the food here to be so high here. Very quality ingredients used perfectly in a homemade style. Delicious hot wraps and the thai wings are crunchy and right amount of spiciness (and I thought that non-Asian establishments couldn't pull it off). Yummy and cheap! I think too many of the reviewers here are under "neighborhood bias". The main reason I went here was for the review of the person who said "as a pizza snob..." and ranked this place 5 stars. The pizza's decent, wouldn't say they were the best slices of my life or that even it was great. I wasn't fond of the crust as at times there was a certain taste to it that didn't settle well. Sal's, though they are now a chain, has way better dough and their slices are great; same with Regina Pizzeria (thought surprisingly didn't care for the original one in the North End; just the chains). I recommend for really great pizza around the Boston area either Za's or my now personal favorite All-Star Pizza which are both located in Cambridge. However, my all time favorite pizza is at a place called Lynwood Cafe, in Randolph followed by my second favorite Town Spa Pizza in Stoughton, though years ago they were far better, they're still great (just ask to have their pizzas on the crispy side). read more

Recently moved to the area and was lucky enough to find my favorite local pizza place very very quickly. The buffalo chicken sandwich special is a real treat after a long day. The pizza has better crust than many places I've been two. But the real treat is the service, these guys get to know the regular faces after two or three walk-ins. In my first month heading in, they knew what I was ordering before I said a word. I try to stop in once a week after work just to grab 1 or 2 slices (let's be serious, the 3 slice deal is the best way to go). People are treated genuinely, and they even gave tiny slices of pizza to kids trick or treating on Halloween. A true gem in Somerville and one I will not soon forget. read more

OK, First let me qualify what 5 stars means here. This is not Olive's, folks. It's a pizza joint. They have stuff like chicken wings and calzones, not rabbit truffle bisque. The rating speaks to 1) the warm and friendly attitude -- this is a neighborhood place, the kind where you will be recognized and treated like a friend after one visit; 2) the steakbomb sub! WOW! Steak tips, medium rare, mushrooms, peppers, and whatever back-of-grill mysteries and incantations were performed. Bottom line: FANTASTIC. Regrets? Of course! i ate a steakbomb sub (oh yeah, on a wrap -- their suggestion, not mine) at 8 PM. I'm still aware of it at 1:45 AM. But still --First class! Don't make a special trip from New York City. But if you like me want to curb your appetite before heading over to Market Basket where you might otherwise be tempted to purchase the entire contents of the snack aisle, this is a good move. Started going here because it's right near my work, now I order from here for parties, get togethers, even when I'm farther away. Everyone that works here is awesome and they put a lot of love into their food - believe me, it makes a difference for something as simple as a sub sandwich. I'm not a salad person but their salads could turn me into one, loaded with seasoned grilled meat and more veggies than just iceberg lettuce. I come here multiple times a week since I work in the area. I usually get a slice of , sometimes with a topping. And I have to say that it is always so delicious! It reminds me of pizza from home (New York City). On the occasion that I get a salad or burger, those to have been great. Everyone that works there is super friendly, and will ask how your food is, just like at a restaurant. They truly want each customer to enjoy what they have prepared for them. read more

If you want REAL PIZZA Caesar's is your place. I am reminded of how delicious the make and quality of their food is when I eat somewhere else. Multiple states, multiple styles (dine in, take out, delivery etc..), and multiple chains. I can't believe how some places get away with the food they give their consumers....simply discusting and then I think of Caesar's Pizza....THEIR PIZZA, SUBS, CALZONES, PASTA SAUCE AND MEATBALLS ARE THE BEST. All fresh and hand made on the premises including their dough. Not like these other dumps that get it delivered or precooked. The tomato for all of their sauces are of the best quality, their cold cuts highest grade available to wholesale, their meatballs are even better than my home-made ones! The portions are perfect for families, especially the massive hand made calzones...to die for. They even make their own pita bread! The prices you can't beat. Yes, it is inconvenient that there are no credit card options or ATM's but it's no surprise so I just make a small effort to carry cash. I also know that Somerville was one of the states to add an additional meal tax and created a whole array of "specialty fees" to small businesses ( I run one) and find it honerable that the owners have not killed the customer with Bertucci prices to make up for the increase in cost of running the business. The people who work their are very nice and I believe family owned for over 30 years...IT'S OBVIOUS THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT!! read more
