In a region known for healthy eating and foodies who pride themselves in "sensible" food, it's actually refreshing to find a restaurant that serves good fried chicken! In fact, we occasionally drive across the bay simply to dine on the simple yet delicious cuisine offered at Caesar's Chicken. The food here is interestingly eclectic (to say the least). Where else can you find a combo meal that includes fried chicken (with subtle soy sauce flavoring), tasty spaghetti, cole slaw and French sour dough bread? The food is good...and worth the half-hour trip (or longer with traffic) to the East Bay. There aren't many seats in the restaurant; so, we typically take our meals to the park across the street and feast on our food. Caesar's Chicken isn't much to look at, but (to quote Han Solo) "she's got it where it counts." I am so disappointed this evening! I called to place an order on 9/2 at 6:45 pm, the young man that answered said they close at 7:30 and all orders needed to be placed in person. I began to ask a question when he hung up on me abruptly. So I drove from Oakland to hayward to place my order, when I arrived I stated my disappointment to the young man working. He then grabbed someone from the back only to tell me that I cannot order. (Mind you this was at 7:10 pm). Quite upset I asked for the managers name and number when I was told that info could not be disclosed. So I asked for the workers names (which I think they lied about because I could them in the reflections chatting in the back). Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars My mom was craving Caesar's Chicken yesterday, and so my wife and I ordered from here around noon (we were going to visit my parents anyway). With tax, it cost $33.10 for 15 pieces of chicken, 8 pieces of french bread (1/2 loaf), a pint of spaghetti (there's a meal that includes all this, and you can substitute garlic bread if you want), and 1/2 loaf of garlic bread. Our cashier was friendly and a hard worker. We had to wait about 14 minutes for our order, but that's because 2 large orders were picked up. There was also an annoying man around (I think he just ordered spaghetti). He went through the tall garbage can and recycling bin. He collected about 10 cans (I think he crushed the cans outside, and then he was later smoking outside- I doubt that he can afford his habit simply by collecting cans). The environment here is casual, but the cashier was so busy that he probably didn't even notice. Gift cards are now sold. There are 3 items on the Kids Menu (2 Drumsticks; 4 Chicken Nuggets; a Drink for $1). There's a new side item: Mashed Potato w/gravy. There are 2 Specials right now (ex: Small Fries for $1.99). There's now a nice TV inside (a no!no! infomercial was on). There's also a small bulletin board. To the right of it you can find some local papers (the selection is limited). It's nicer inside (there are 2 tables and 17 chairs, and the layout makes the restaurant look more spacious than it really is), but only about 10 framed pictures are up now (over 40 were up before, and the ones now up appear to be "new"). 2 are of Raiderettes, and another 2 will delight Twilight fans (a cast picture and one of Robert Pattinson). Most of the others are of former athletes (ex: Michael Jordan; Joe Rudi; Brett Favre). The french bread here is consistently good (my dad especially likes it). Although the garlic bread is tasty, it's inconsistent (you don't really know what you're going to get). The loaf we picked up on Christmas Eve wasn't as garlicy as the 1/2 loaf we had yesterday. It also looked lighter, almost like there was a cheese spread on top (I want to make it clear that the garlic bread was good both times). Unless you ask for it to be sliced, you'll receive your garlic bread unsliced. You also have to mix the spaghetti yourself. The sauce is always at the bottom. The chicken was better and more filling yesterday than it was last time. There were even some huge thighs (I lightly teased my wife for not being able to finish the one she grabbed). This restaurant is truly popular. Even at 8 (my wife and I were driving by), there were 3 people inside. 2 were waiting for their food, and a man was about to order. Don't say no!no! I haven't found fried chicken like this anywhere in San Diego yet so the Bay is so lucky to have this place. Forget KFC, this place shouldn't even be compared to that chicken. I've been here numerous times. I hate to rip a business apart especially a small business I may go back to, but I gotta put them on blast. Be very aware of your order when you walk out the door, there are some young guys at the register that Likely are family (I'd have fired them otherwise) that have little recollection of what they just charged you for and don't seem to care that it all gets in your bag. Also, customers and staff without masks like it isn't a huge pandemic going on. The chicken is good as hell I do have to say. Just check your bag before you leave AND know the time frame they give you means nothing. I called and was told 20 min (likely a standard time they just tell everyone) got there 10 min late and was told my chicken wouldn't be ready for 15-20 more minutes. I've just recently tried this place after many years of having it bookmarked. Here's what I learned. It's basically a take-out joint, unless you want to eat in what is basically a waiting room (not recommended). There is Kennedy Park across the street with decent benches under shady trees but can get quite ghetto under certain times and conditions (hot weekend days). Could be an option to eat Caesers take-out. We had it one early summer's evening as the sun was setting and proved to be ideal. 4-5 hours earlier, probably not. The fried chicken is pretty solid, especially not coming from a chain. The skin/crust is well seasoned but a tad salty. It is crunchy yet juicy in the interior. Can't ask for more in a down home Chicken house. Orders can take a while, like 20 minutes "while". Unlike all chains they do not precook their chicken to sit under lamps. This is not "fast food" folks. Either call ahead and use your travel time as your wait, or simply be patient. It's worth it IMHO. Spaghetti is one their sides. How awesome is that?! And it's not bad spaghetti either but rather a simple but solid rendition of the American-Italian classic. I gotta say that I was pretty stoked at eating 2 of my favorite meals in one. Crunchy homemade chicken and soul satisfying spaghetti. Money! Coleslaw is a pass but the bread that comes with the spaghetti is actually quite legit. I got the movie box and it thought it was pretty sweet having four pieces of chicken - even though there were two wings, they were pretty sizable! Problem was...the coating was a little salty. Actually, a lot salty. A couple of pieces were almost inedible. No good! However, I can also report that I really like spaghetti as a side. I personally thought everything was going to change and go downhill but I was Dead Wrong. The Taste and Price remains the same. The chicken was super fresh. Craving for fried chicken was normally easy for me before, either go to KFC or Jollibee and solved. I wouldn't even call it a restaurant because there's no place to eat at. There was a long table at the side, probably for checking out your bagged orders, but it was not conducive to eating-in. However, that's what we did. We ordered and ate at the side corner quietly. The whole place smelled like fried chicken and it was so good. Crunchy and juicy on my first bite of a leg piece. The breast was kind of dry, but the crispy crunch outside made it all good to me. Their dinner combo came with a half pint of spaghetti and French bread. The 10-piece bucket comes with a pint of spaghetti and French bread. I also tried their Minestrone soup which was all right. Not bad, but not so great. I don't really care about the spaghetti. I don't know what happened to this place it used to be so good. When you walk in the walls had pictures of famous people who actually ate at the restaurant and then signed autographs. Now it's dirty and dingy. There's a point of sale system standing up in the middle of the floor for some reason it doesn't look like it works. There's writing all over mouse pad customers are supposed to use with the word "cock" written on it. I paid $40 to get two movie box sets one with dark meat one with white meat. We got four wings in one and four drumsticks in the other box. This is not $40 worth of anything. The potato salad was disgusting. Literally the spaghetti was the only thing worth the money and it was still tasteless and bland. I believe that restaurants have been taken out by another family. This place made me fall in love with chicken! It used to be located down the street from my grandparents house, until it burnt down. I can still taste the wonderful drumsticks and remember how excited I was every time we would go eat there. I think this is the best chicken I have ever eaten. We've been huge fans of Caesar's for years, and I mean years. I grew up in the neighborhood and we've ordered Caesar's for lots of family party's and there was never any leftovers. Even when we moved away, we would make the trip back to Caesar's to get our fix. I remember the original owners would take sabbaticals in the fall, so we would get our Caesar's fix before they closed and after they re-opened. But something happened when the family sold off the business. New owners came in and started skimping on the seasonings and it just wasn't the same. It got so bad, we stopped going. Years have gone by, and after looking at some reviews, we decided to give Caesar's another shot. I was pleasantly surprised. Comparing to the original owners and on a scale of 1-10, I'm giving them a 9. My wife was a little tougher and gave them a 7-8. Either way, it's still good fried chicken and it's better than what we have in the Tri-Valley. If you haven't been in a while, give them another shot. Whenever I think back on my childhood in Hayward, I think about the Zucchini Festival, Festival Cinemas, and Caesar's Chicken. This place is great for getting food for the family. When you've got growing kids who can eat you out of house and home, this is a great place to get enough food to keep them happy without it costing an arm and a leg.
