So I live in northern California & come here once or twice a year to see my Sister & family... Since coming here to Cadwalladers last October it is now my favorite restaurant in the area, & it is a MUST whenever I visit. The greeting from John was warm & welcoming, the service from Janet was impeccable, & the food beyond wonderful. I also was thrilled when I found one of our West Coast wines, Turley, on the menu. Made our meal even more enjoyable (if that's even possible). Couldn't recommend this spot more. Oh, also, the atmosphere is warm & QUIET, which is very much appreciated! I am so happy that Cadwallader's Cafe showed up on Open Table because I would have never known about it otherwise. Hidden in plain sight, this lovely place doesn't look like much from the outside with the older building and faded awnings, but once inside, it was a pleasant surprise. The decor may be a little outdated, but the food is far from it. We enjoyed the crab cake appetizer followed by the bison special and seared tuna. The appetizer came was two crab cakes with house-made remoulade and mango salsa over a bed of mixed greens. They were not overly bready and the crab really shined. My husband's char grilled North Carolina Bison strip loin was a hearty portion of tender meat, sided by smoked Wisconsin blue cheese scallop potatoes, garlic sauteed broccolini, and smoked German ale sauce. My pan seared sesame encrusted North Carolina tuna was cooked perfectly rare (as requested) and was accompanied by garden herb crushed local red skin potatoes, wilted organic spinach, asparagus, Thai basil and black pepper gazpacho sauce. Although we were slightly full, we couldn't resist trying a dessert. I'm not entirely certain of the name, but it was a house-made biscuit with fresh Georgia peaches topped with brown sugar ice cream. It was tasty, though the peaches were slightly under ripe. The fantastic array of flavors within all the dishes proved why the restaurant is 28 years strong. The service was outstanding with the owner popping by to check in on our experience. read more

10 Nov 2015 6:30PM We decided to spend our Anniversary this year at "Cadwalladers Cafe". It was a very special Anniversary and we wanted it to be a special meal. Off Washington in Martinez, GA, who would have thought, nestled off a side street a restaurant of this quality would be hidden there. It was an unassuming restaurant, quiet and dark when we entered. While it took just a minute for someone to come to the front to seat us, it ended up being the owner and he immediately seated us. We had made reservations on online and asked for a quiet table for two. I had specifically asked for a certain bottle of wine to be ready on the table in the reservation and after he sat us, he came directly back and said that while they did not have that kind, they did have one similar to it. The alternative wine was actually our second choice, so it was a win-win for us. We actually Were surprised how prompt they were with the wine, but grateful for our celebration. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and easily could tell us in detail what the specials were. We decided to start out the evening with the appetizer the waiter had recommended and were so glad we did. They smoke the sausage at the restaurant, so I was particularly interested in its flavor. We actually longed for more, but glad we didn't by the end of the meal!!! The appetizer was the"Campfire Special". The "house smoked local spicy sausage, housemake bourbon mustard and red onion marlmalade, taste of High West Campfire whiskey" You can get it with or without the whisky and while we are generally not whisky drinkers, we tried it. It was awesome! the bold flavors of the sausage mixed with both the marmalade and mustard just blended so smoothly. While my Husband loved the red onion marl made, I could not get enough of the bourbon mustard. You have to try that! For dinner my husband had the very delicious "Char grilled veal porterhouse, smoked blue cheese scallop potatoes, sauteed garlic broccolini, red onion marmalade, apple jus." The veal was huge and smoked blue cheese scallop potatoes were so warm and tasty. With full and rich flavors, moist and a meal I would go back for. I chose the "Pan seared sesame encrusted north carolina tuna , garden herb crushed local red skin potatoes, wilted organic spinach, asparagus, thai basil and black pepper gazpacho sauce". The tuna was actually very tasty. They make it medium rare so one must really enjoy the rareness of it to like this type of meat. I did. The potatoes were extremely flavorful and while the spinach was hidden below the tuna, it was a great flavor to eat with all the flavors. The asparagus was perfectly done and while I am not a fan of spicy foods, the Thai basil and gazpacho sauce along side the tuna embraced the flavors of the tuna. Being our anniversary, we decided to have a desert. Again, taking the highly recommended selection by our waiter, we chose the "Carmel salted ice cream, chocolate truffle cake with a Carmel sauce". This was a glorious end to a fabulous meal! just one desert was enough for the two of us and as rich as it was as tasteful, it was divine. Overall, we would give this restaurant a 4.5. Small, quaint restaurant, with bold beautiful flavors! A must to try whether a local or in just passing through Augusta/Martinez! read more

We had a super meal last night at Cadwalladers. It started with appetizers of scallops and a second dish of a crab cake. Really flavorful and delicious. Then onto the mail meals that included their heritage pork chop, the seafood risotto, the filet, as well as the French onion soup and spinach salad. All was very nicely flavored and beautifully presented. Dessert included one of each of the 3 desserts offered and they were delicious. Home made and again--delicious! We ate here after a hiatus for about a decade...no reason other than we forget about the place and they stopped serving a shrimp appetizer that I had loved. We weren't starving, so we both ordered an appetizer as a light meal. We ordered the same thing!...a salad (arugula, fresh corn, feta, Peruvian peppers, lite vinaigrette), served with a few scallops alongside. I experienced my first Peruvian pepper and I enjoyed the small meal so much! It was the perfect amount when we added the homemade bread and softened butter. We will be back soon! We were told initially that they had just seated 15 diners who had reservations. It would be 20 minutes before we would receive a MENU! My wife wanted to stay, so we were escorted to a booth located in this dark area next to the kitchen. True to their word we received a menu about 20-30 minutes later. Several more minutes passed and the waitress took our order. She had already brought to pieces of bread, water, and a mixed drink I ordered. So, for the next 30 minutes we sat in silence and listened to the kitchen staff yell out order info and breathed the aroma of a mixture of foods wafting over the short wall that separated us from all that action. Finally, after over an hour, we decided it was too late and by the time any food arrived, we would be in a coma. So, we decided to leave. The waitress was quick to tell us that the filet mignon we ordered took a long time to cook because we had ordered them medium-well (implying it was our fault for the delay) and she said the filets had to "rest" before they served them! How tired can a dead piece of meat get after being sizzled on a grill? Anyway, I offered to pay for the mixed drink and the bread, but the manager said there was no charge. However, without being asked, he did tell me that it was necessary to serve people with reservations first. I don't know where that leaves the rest of us without reservations. No where have I seen where reservations are required to eat at this restaurant. In my opinion he should have never seated us if he knew from the start that he would not be able to serve us a meal within a reasonable amount of time. I give this place a 0 out of 5 for the way they handled this situation, and I will never know what a rested filet tastes like, because I will never visit this place of business againl. read more

Cadwallader's is one of the few spots in Augusta where you can always expect amazing customer service. From only seating you with a wine list so you can enjoy your cocktails without feeling rushed to the impeccable specials, its definitely worth the bill. Definitely try the specials and the seasonal changes on the menu. During the winter we enjoyed the bison short rib & dry aged rib eye special, while recently, during the summer months we dined on the soft shell crab and pork chop. Both times we were there we lucked out with their scallop special (A MUST TRY). We also tried the duck wings & crab cakes, both delicious. Don't forget to order dessert which rotates as well. We tried the creme brulee as well as the flourless chocolate cake. And surprise, surprise, they were AH-MAY-ZING. A must go for that special occasion, or even if you just feel like being treated like a king & queen. read more

I've been trying to come up with a review since we came with my book club last Thursday. I didn't realize this restaurant even existed where it does. I've driven past it for years now without noticing it. It was very nicely decorated for the holidays and had a very intimate setting. The menu left something to be desired. It was very limited, even with the few specials they offered. I decided to go with just the cheese board for this trip and it was a good choice. Three different types of cheeses, grapes, honey, chutney, jelly and some tasty crackers. I tried my friend's dish of trout and shrimp and it was pretty bland, which for the price they were serving it at, shouldn't happen. The service was great, but I don't think I'll be back to eat. I did tell my husband I wouldn't mind going back for just a drink because their bar looked very nice and it's very quiet inside. read more

Wow! We were visiting Augusta, from Las Vegas, for a potential move. Being from Las Vegas, we have a pretty good palate for amazing food and ambiance from a restaurant. When we walked in we were greeted immediately with a friendly (masked) face. We were escorted to our table by who I assume was the owner of the restaurant. It's obvious they are taking Covid seriously. Everyone was masked, tables were spread out and we watched them wipe down our table/chairs before we were seated. Our waitress, Kristin was fantastic and knowledgeable about everything from the Scotch and Whiskey to the best choices of appetizers and entrees. We had the crab cakes and scallops to start and they were worth every penny. My husband wondered if it would be weird if he licked the plate...that good! For dinner I had the Pork Chop and he enjoyed the Veal. Wow, oh wow! I have never had a pork chop cooked to perfection, the sauce and potatoes were just the icing on the cake. The veal is something that Kristin recommended and it was as amazing as she suggested. We ordered the Creme Brulee for dessert. The first one came out and was a bit burnt on the top, however as soon as Kristin noticed we put our spoons down she came to check on us. She immediately took it back and brought out another. The torch can be touchy on Creme Brulee, so it was no big deal! The noise level in the restaurant was great, the service was impeccable, and if we move to Augusta; Cadwalladers will become a regular part of our lives! read more

Time and again, I continue to be impressed at this establishment. My wife and I have dined here for many years and I have never had a bad meal. We recently went for dinner with another couple. We had crab cakes and beef carpaccio for appetizers. I had the bison ribeye and my wife had the rabbit sausage, one of her absolute favorites. The meal was excellent, as always. One of the nicest things about this restaurant is the attention to detail. The service is excellent and the servers are very knowledgeable. The menu changes frequently, as well as the wine selection, making return visits very unique and refreshing. The waitress was so nice and knowledgeable when we couldn't decide which entreè to get. Different staff checked on us throughout the evening at least every 7 to 10 minutes to make sure everything was ok. Also this place is tucked away so you wouldn't even know it was there. After being recommended to try cadwalladers by a co worker, me and my wife dined for our anniversary, despite wanting to go to our usual spot Frog Hollow. The venue is nice, with an intimate feel. We sat for nearly 30 minutes before being presented with a menu. We ordered 2 appetizers, the crab cakes and the ahi tuna which were good. For entrees we ordered the lamb chop and the salt rubbed ribeye special. The lamb was decent, however the ribeye is another story. Over seasoned, asked for medium rare, was definitely near medium well, a major disappointment in trying to taste any hint of beef. Waitress was rather inattentive the time we were seated to the time we were ready to go, not busy at all or anything. Overall, not impressed and disappointing. We will probably take our money to Frog Hollow from now on. read more

So, after 30 years of enjoying Cadwalladers, it's about time I write a review. It has been our family favourite since the 1980s when Colden and Mary started out with their little deli which has since expanded to a beautiful, elegant bistro. The food is phenomenal; the ingredients are locally sourced and prepared to perfection. There is something on the menu for everyone. Often, I like to have a light meal and save room for one of Mary's delicious desserts, so I pair the crab cakes with the house salad of organic mixed greens and mandarin oranges. My husband loves the meat dishes such as pork or filet mignon, and I love to have a bite of his to taste :) Last night he had the pork chop with fire-roasted tomato mashed potatoes which I couldn't resist tasting. They were divine! Mary's desserts cannot be missed. Again, there's something for everyone. They are impeccably made with love which you can taste with every bite and see with the presentation. The atmosphere and décor are warm and inviting; the music level and lighting are set to the perfect level. The tables are spaced nicely and the seating is very comfortable. White linen table cloths and nice table settings elevate the dining experience. Colden and Mary, along with their wonderful staff make you feel very welcome and will make your evening first rate. They are really down to earth and genuinely love sharing their love of food and wine (or other beverages) with you. If you haven't tried Cadwalladers yet, it's time to do so! read more
