    Steak or Salmon Saltado*

The restaurant is such a nice and comfortable setting. The service was fantastic! The food was so delicious and made fresh to eat. I loved the haucatay dip for the empanadas and I think it paired better than the olive / mayo dip that came with the yuca fries. I will return when I'm back in town!

Cabra is a Peruvian-inspired restaurant on the rooftop of the Hoxton hotel. I recommend making a reservation if you plan to go. My fiance and I went on a Friday night and it was packed. You get a panoramic view of Chicago while being surrounded by lively chatter and ambient mood lighting, making it perfect for a night out. The staff were polite and super attentive, service was a 10/10. I had a great time, but there's one word I would describe the food--salty. Keep in mind, I love salt, some might say even too much (my friends & family definitely have). However, these dishes pushed me beyond my salt limit. I may have even left with hypertension. We ordered: 1. Goat Empanadas served with a huacatay mayo ($18) - 9/10 This was the best dish that we ordered. It was well seasoned with a flakey, delicious empanada dough but it tasted like any other good empanada I've had and definitely not worth the price. 2. Salmon Ceviche* with pistachio smash, avocado leche, and puffed rice ($22) - 7/10 Fatty salmon with citrus are a beloved combination, so no complaints from me. You can definitely get this anywhere else or make it yourself and be satisfied though. 3. Hot Chorizo & Queso Dip with herby chimi, chip crunch, & flatbread ($18) - 6/10 VERY chorizo forward to the point it dominated dip. The citrus from the chimichurri added a nice tanginess. I couldn't appreciate the cheese flavor which I wanted but that depends on your preference. Surprisingly the fresh, fluffy flat bread & sweet potato chips were my favorite part. 4. Jalea Mixta which was fried calamari & shrimp, salsa criolla, & caper mayo ($22) - 4/10 Honestly a very generous portion. Something about it was sickeningly citrusy though so we had to force ourselves to finish the dish. I started developing a headache from all the sour & salty flavors. We were celebrating so they brought us complimentary Peruvian chocolate truffles (I didn't see it on their menu). It was kind of them but it was oddly the MOST salty bite of the night. We each took a bite & had to spit it out discreetly which was very unlike us. I can probably count on 1 hand the amount of times I've had to do that in my life. Also, I'd NEVER turn down a complimentary dessert but it seems like there's a first time for everything. Honestly maybe it's my fault for ordering this combination of dishes...but how can EVERY DISH be TOO salty?! I'm from Texas, so I don't shy away from salty, flavorful foods so I just think Cabra wasn't for me & I wouldn't return. I've tried multiple Goat-affiliated restaurants and despite my repeated mediocre culinary experience, I still keep giving them a chance. In the sea of glowing reviews, I just HAVE to check it out for myself (sometimes multiple times to make sure). So far, I'm not very impressed but I'll see you at my next Goat restaurant review.

This place was so cute! They have a really cute covered outdoor area that gives rainforest vibes. They have a lot of seating and great atmosphere. The steak lomo saltado was the star of the show. SUPERRR flavorful, though everything was great. I wish there was more ceviche than they give you -- It was a little expensive for what they give, but it was very tasty as was everything really!! The cocktails were great too--very fun, fruity and flavorful! Everything came out quickly and we didn't have to wait too long for food to come out even though there was a big party ahead of us!

Yum! Still one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago, especially in the summer on their patio. I tried the eggplant saltado for the first time and it was so good. I loved the fried cubes of yucca. The spicy tuna dip is one of my favs, along with the fried cheese salad. You really can't go wrong here. It was my friend's birthday and they were so nice and brought out a little candle with some yummy chocolates. Such great service!

We came here for date night. Food at Cabra is designed to be shared and they have a substantial gluten-free menu that also have celiac specific indicators (which is super cool so gold star). On the non-gluten-free side of things, I decided I had to have the goat empanadas and they certainly lived up to the hype. The real star of the show, however, was the tuna tataki which was gluten-free. The steak saltado was also delicious. The rooftop location is definitely a great vibe and we will hope to make it back in the near future.

Food: We ordered a mix of stuff from their grazing hour menu and regular dinner menu. The food was all okay but really stood out and the portions were very small for the price. Ambiance: the space is very big, open, and bright especially on a sunny day. Service: everyone was very nice and attentive although we did notice that they'd clear our plates without asking if we were finished.

Finally visited Cabra, which completed my list of trying all the Stephanie Izard Chicago restaurants! My friend and I did not have a reservation for a random Tuesday night but were able to grab seats up at the bar. First order of business was drinks and man do they make a good pisco sour here! Later I tried the Hu-Go Girl cocktail, which was also refreshing and delicious. For food, we split a few dishes starting with the goat empanadas, which I thought were just ok. Our favorite was the salmon ceviche - really yummy, definitely add on the chips. And then we tried the crab causa, which was a little disappointing - I would skip next time. I have to say that food-wise, Cabra is my least favorite of the Izard pack but I would come back for the drinks and fun ambiance.

Cabra was stop #2 on our seven-restaurant Chicago food tour, and somehow we went from one gorgeous restaurant straight into another. The rooftop setting is beautiful and the city views are AMAZING. Definitely one of those spaces where you immediately want to look around before you even look at the menu. Service was great, and the food was intriguing & creative. Avocado Dip seemed simple but couldn't stop eating it, and loved the Tuna Tataki and Chicken Thighs. I had the Cabra Cooler - a rotating frozen drink. It was purple and made with Ube - so delicious and fun!

This restaurant is upstairs in the Hoxton Hotel. We sat out on the heated patio by the fireplace. I loved the Hu-go Girl cocktail And the blackberry sangria cabra cooler. The chicken empanadas were fantastic. The crust was flaky and delicious and the chicken was perfectly seasoned. The chicken thigh skewers were also tasty. Service was excellent! Highly recommend for a great dinner!

Love this spot. The food is great. They have a DJ in the weekends and you can have drinks at pool after. The views are nice and the service is fast! It's my go-to place when I have friends come visit.

The servers were fast an attentive. Great, casual atmosphere and good background music. We had a large party of 11 with our meal courses already planned. All of the food was delicious. I would have more pictures, but the food was moving faster than I could take them.

Ambiance - located on the rooftop, casual, bar in the middle of the restaurant, super spacious Service - our server was nice & friendly, food came out quickly Food - love their avocado dip (balanced flavors & love the idea of taro chips), chicken thigh anticucha was cooked to perfection

    Hot Chorizo & Queso Dip
    Erica B.

Cabra was excellent. Our server was super helpful with drinks and food orders and both were delicious. My favorite dishes were the chorizo queso and the crispy pork shank. The queso came with two types of dippers that were both really good even by themselves and dip was cheesy and delicious but also kinda herby and had a really unique flavor. The pork shank was an experience that I highly recommend. You get two different sauces and little pitas and get to make little pita pockets. The pork just falls right off the bone, sooooo good. The spicy tuna dip was a surprise #3 for me. I really liked the seaweed chips and the dip had just the right amount of spice. The shishitos were also pretty solid. The salmon ceviche was another surprise for me since I'm not usually into ceviche but I really liked the flavor. The chicken skewers, tuna tataki, and empanadas were all good, too, but none of them were out of this world for me.

The host was slightly rude seating us, the server didn't check in on us ONCE except when I sent back food, and the service was slooooow. It took twenty minutes for our order to be taken. The food was a joke. The first dish was a piece of torched salmon served stabbed on a wilted green, drenched in mayonnaise and bachan. The sauce was supposed to how kimchi notes, but not one whiff of that lovely tartness cut through the dairy and sugar drenched fish. 1/10 The octopus was out, so they served us the tempura shrimp dish instead. It came covered in a cream cheese spread, and if you think seafood smothered in dairy is fine dining, great, but this was so disgusting that my girlfriend and I both couldn't finish this, the flavor was so unappealling. 0/10 The sushi was more of the same: tempura shrimp, some tuna, and a cream sauce that buried any hint of seafood flavor. 3/10 The entree, a seafood stew with cod, clams, and shrimp, contained one tiny piece of overcooked fish, three clams, and one shrimp. It felt stingy and the flavors were unimpressive. 3/10 The dessert was an ultra-processed, flavorless cookie sandwich served on a tiny bed of run-of-the-mill mousse. It felt like I was being shoo'd out the door. A waste of $230, including gratuity. AVOID.

I even walked past it at first because there were only two people inside, and the restaurant looked pretty empty and uninviting. But since I had already driven nearly 30 minutes, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did! I was greeted and seated right away and given time to look over the menu.
