Our waiter (I will report back with his name once I remember it) was the perfect mix between checking in and letting us enjoy our dinner. And the food. Yummmmmy. We've been to prime before and we feel Italian is better. My husband actually said the steak at Italian is better thank the steak at prime. I got the spicy rigatoni and halibut which were so fresh and delicious. And you can't beat the ambiance / decor. I was here with a large group and we were seated in a private room. We had the opportunity to try so many items from the menu as everything came our family style. Had such a fun night at Adalina celebrating my friend's birthday! The vibes here are definitely giving girls' night/date night energy super pretty atmosphere, upscale but still comfortable, and the staff was honestly so kind the entire night. They checked in on us often and made the experience feel really welcoming. The food overall was actually really good and tasted fresh. My friend got the chicken parm, we also shared the crab ravioli, and I ordered the spicy vodka pasta but switched it to marinara instead. Honestly, sometimes simple pasta hits the spot and this one was really satisfying. We also got the bread service which was SO cheesy and delicious. One of those things you keep reaching for without realizing it. There was also a prosciutto and ricotta appetizer at the table that looked really good, although I personally didn't eat it since I only eat halal. For anyone wondering about halal options: the lamb chops are halal, which I appreciated, but they're cooked on the same grill as the other meats so I ended up skipping them. I really wish they had more halal-friendly options here because the menu and steak selections looked amazing. Even having a separate chicken or steak option would make this place a 5/5 for me personally because I'd absolutely come back to try more. One thing to note is parking they do have valet, but it was pretty pricey. I believe up to 3 hours was around $48, which was a little painful lol. Adalina Italian, what can I say other than it's two blocks from my condo, I've walked by it 1,000 times and I've always wanted to try it! Well, Chicago Restaurant week, now, had given me the opportunity to climb those illustrious steps into what is a very beautiful restaurant. On this cold-snowy night, it was very busy here and the welcome at the front desk was warm and gracious; this was a good start. The menu look great but we had to ask for the Chicago Restaurant week Week menu as that's why we were here? I found that odd? Their fair for this week was basic Italian food and it was good: Two chicken parmigiana and two Blue Fin Tuna Tartare with dessert. Yes we enjoyed but in the end it was expensive. Went to Adalina HH on State Street yesterday 4:45. The bar was almost full. Was able to snag 2 seats at the end of the bar. First of all the restaurant/bar is just gorgeous! This place is so nice and perfect for a winger date night or spending time with the girls. It was around more than a half hour wait time but overall the service and food was great. Love the ambiance here. Very cutesy, romantic, and grown. Expect dim lighting and lovely chandeliers. The hostess stand is at the top of the double landing staircase. There's a first come, first serve bar, lined with oversized booths and highboy tables. Everything was good - the stuffed bread and meatballs we enjoyed as appetizers, the rigatoni, mushroom pasta, and seafood pasta dishes, and even the entree salad. This place is so cute. It was my first time here and didn't even realize it but they have a coat check in at the bottom. Walking up the stairs the ambiance upstairs was so nice. I would say the downside is we had our reservations at 8:15 but didn't get seated until 8:52, which I was wondering why have a reservations. There wasn't a waiting area but the food and service was what made up for it. It was absolutely amazing. We got their bread service enough for three or more people and I got their lamb bolognese which was filled with so much flavors. We also got their apply mocktails. Our waiter was absolutely amazing!! I also tried their martini flight (original, dirty, and Parmigiana). Yes, that is correct. They have a parmigiana martini. The original was the best in this flight. Missed the mark: --Food delivery. Twice during my meal, food came out of the kitchen, was placed hurriedly on my table, and then the person ran away. It seemed lacking in accompaniments, and the octopus had a slight fishy flavor to it that I haven't experienced in other restaurants. By far the best experience of our visit to Chicago. We had reservations for my mother's birthday and they took excellent care of us from beginning to end. Our server William was adept at answering any questions and making recommendations. Our party started off with the shellfish tower, fried green tomato caprese, and two orders of bread. All were wonderful and noteworthy. Adalina encourages sharing entrees and that's exactly what we did. Between the seven of us, we had the: mafaldine bolognese, fiori alla amatriciana, duck lasagna, lamb rack, veal chop parmigiana, campanelle, and charred filet. Plus a side of roasted carrots. Everyone was thrilled with their choices, but from what I tasted, the standouts were the veal chop parmigiana, charred filet, and campanelle. Plus everyone was fighting over those roasted carrots. I was in town for work and I had dinner with some colleagues here. We had a wonderful experience. We were near the open doors upstairs and had a great view on a warm summer evening. The service and food were very good. We started with the Charred Octopus: Fingerling Potatoes, Sicilian Pistachios, Fennel, Horseradish Goat Cheese. I am not a huge octopus fan but this was very good. The octopus was flavorful and not too chewy. We also did the panzanella salad. It had lots of yummy things in it and the bread was nice and crispy. For my entree, I had the Campanelle pasta which is basically a deconstructed pesto with a side of grilled shrimp. This was very good. For being a pasta, it was very light but flavorful. The shrimp were nicely cooked as well. We also did a side of the Cannellini Beans with Escarole, Prosciutto. These were flavorful and had a nice bacon flavor from the prosciutto. We did two desserts. The Gold Coast Cookie Plate: Four Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. I ate my cookies over the next couple of days. They were yummy. We also had the Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse Cake: Cocoa Nibs, Chocolate Fudge, Malted Banana Gelato. This was a nice light chocolate cake. Not heavy and rich like some can be. Loved the banana gelato. I saw Chef Soo Ahn on Top Chef and loved his creative dishes. So knowing he's the executive chef at Adalina, it's been on my radar. I was not disappointed. First, the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. The attentive wait staff is top-notch and I loved our server Javier. My husband ordered a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino, my favorite. They have an extensive selection. We shared the caviar service and also the truffle caesar. I love truffle everything and this salad was crisp & fresh and lightly dressed with a fabulous truffle dressing. And caviar? 'Nuf said! There were 5 mini gnocco fritto with whipped ricotta and a half ounce of golden kaluga caviar. For dinner, my husband had the veal chop parmigiana and I had the salmon Vesuvio. Both excellent dishes. The veal chop was huge and so tender. It was in a spicy tomato sauce. My salmon was a perfect medium with a crispy potato crust with lighter than air gnocchi. I was in Chicago for the Cowboy Carter (Beyhive, much?!) concert and a friend recommended this spot...I'm so glad they did. With only about an hour to spare before the show, we were short on time, but the staff was incredibly attentive and made sure our food and drinks came out quickly. It helped that we arrived a bit early and the restaurant wasn't too busy yet. And was pretty quiet. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. I'm a big fan of handmade pasta, so I went with the bolognese; rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. We also split the, salad, artichoke and bread starters, which were all excellent. Portions were generous and definitely shareable but unfortunately, I couldn't take leftovers with me. If you're in Chicago and craving authentic Italian cuisine, this place is a must-visit. We started with the market oysters. They were fresh, clean, and had a great briny flavor. The cocktail sauce complemented them perfectly, and it was a great way to begin the meal. The baked bay scallops were another hit. The anchovy butter and lemony breadcrumbs added so much richness and flavor. They were salty in the best way, although the portion felt a little small for the price. The spicy vodka rigatoni was the highlight of the night. The sauce was creamy with just the right amount of heat, and the pasta tasted soft and handmade. It was one of those plates you wish wouldn't end. Easily one of the best pastas I've had in Chicago. The main entrées were more mixed. The chicken Milanese had a nice salad and dressing, but the chicken itself was dry and felt pretty plain without any sauce or accompaniment. It just didn't feel worth the price. The salmon vesuvio was cooked well and had a good crust, and the gnocchi on the side was tasty, but the overall seasoning fell short. For a $37 dish, I expected a bit more flavor and substance. The cocktails were excellent. The Fume e Frutta had a beautifully balanced smokiness from the mezcal, and The Spice of Life was refreshing and enjoyable. Service was one of the strongest parts of the evening. The staff was friendly, kind, and never rushed us. They brought complimentary champagne and surprised us with strawberry sorbet and candles for the celebration, which was a really thoughtful touch. The restaurant has an upscale, cozy feel with dim lighting, and it was especially inviting on a cold winter night. Two things you must try: charred octopus with horseradish goat cheese and duck mole lasagna. We definitely went out of our comfort zones with those two dishes and WOW, not one regret. The spread under the octopus was so so good, we've never had octopus with dairy/cream and that was delicious. It was creamy, zesty, tangy and a flavor explosion. The duck mole lasagna. Yes you heard right, duck and mole sauce in lasagna form. Came here for a friend's event. The location was easy to find and we were able to get close by parking. We were given the lower level private lounge location that had an intimate setup of a bar and comfortable spread out seating. The room was very dark to contribute to the setting. The noise level did get loud with people chatter, so glad that they did not also have music playing in the area. I was not expecting that much from the appetizers, but wow - everything that was brought out was amazingly delicious. The appetizers included fried tomatoes, a crunch chicken, perfectly skewered shrimp, and a truffle dish (was definitely my favorite). Nice touch on the drinks to include the "A" on the ice cubes too. My husband and I popped into Adalina on Tuesday right at 4. Their happy hour is 4-6 on weekdays with $9 bites and drinks. Their rotating cocktail was Gin and lemongrass Umami Whisper while my husband tried the spectacle that is the mini martini trio. His favorite was the last, parm. The chips served with the prosciutto were unexpectedly salted with vinegar, which was quite a surprise--perhaps that could be clarified on the menu. I found the polenta cake and meatballs a bit on the bland side, but the gnocco fritto tasted good despite not quite making sense to me. My favorite dish was definitely the arancini. We came by for dinner on Saturday night around 5:30pm, and were promptly shown to our table. Once seated we were offered our choice of water. Shortly after we were brought the drink menu when our waiter came by. Our drinks came out pretty quickly and we went ahead and ordered all of our food. We started with the stuffed bread, and the meatballs. The stuffed bread was everything I wanted and more, it was so good we had to order a 2nd one. I was trying to flag our waiter down to put in the order for the 2nd one before we finished our meatballs but she took about 20 minutes to circle back to us. She kept walking by our table but when we try to flag her, she would walk away. We forked it up to her being rather busy as the dinner rush may be starting but there was still a good amount of empty tables around us as we came in for an early dinner. Shortly after the room started filling up a bit and we noticed that the tables that got sat around us, had already received their food and we were still waiting. We didn't get our entries until a little after 7. The two folks behind us that came after we had already finished our apps, and ordered way after us, they had the same dishes we ordered but got theirs first. Again we tried to flag our waiter down. Finally she comes by and goes 'where's your food?' Because we could see the hostess constantly checking on our progress probably needing the table. About 15 minutes later our food came out. Our entrees were the salmon Vesuvio, the short rib and the Agnolotto pasta. It was about 7:15 now and we quickly ate and were waiting around again for our waiter. We were going to skip out on dessert but we were celebrating a few different things and wanted to make a full experience. The salmon was great, it was missing a sauce of some kind but the gnocchi that came with it was perfection. The short rib was a bit on the dryer side, but the ricotta gnocchi cake that came with it was rather interesting. So we ordered the tiramisu and some cookies to go. The tiramisu took a bit to get out but a gentleman kindle came by and saw that we were just sitting there empty water glass, and empty table to offer us some coffee while we waited. Shortly after dessert came out, we just asked for the check and she just stood there waiting for the check. We left the restaurant around 8:15pm. We really weren't expecting to be there past 7 as that was the reason we came for an early dinner. All in all, we had a decent experience. The caesar was phenomenal, and one of the best I've had. The gnocco was not pleasant (for me personally). The pasta was soooooo good; I usually don't like ricotta on my pasta because I don't enjoy the cold and hot temps mixing but it was subtle in this dish. We were able to make a reservation for a Saturday evening which made us happy. Unfortunately, our previous reservation at a different restaurant was cancelled, however, we ended up at Adalina - which worked out!!!! I was happy to see the details when going up the stairs and seeing hanging flower lights to a romantic type setting with enough lighting to enjoy each other's company! We were greeted and immediately seated. Our waiter walked us through the menu and highlighted some of the popular dishes the restaurant had to offer. We then proceeded to order: Gnocco Fritto - which to my surprise was really good! I enjoyed the whipped ricotta with the honey Truffled Caesar Salad - the truffle mainly stayed in one area of the salad, so we didn't enjoy it as much as we would have liked to. Agnolotti - the huitlacoche sauce was a tad bit salty for my taste but it worked. Instead of ordering one additional plate to share, we ended up order two! Short Rib Salmon Vesuvio Short Rib was soft and tender to the touch. Honestly, you didn't need a knife to cut through it. The gnocchi alla romana was surprisingly good and went well with the short rib jus. Salmon Vesuvio was a hit except for the crust. The salmon was a bit overcooked so it wasn't as buttery as I would have expected and the crust was too charred so most of the top layer was too crunchy. The potato gnocchi was pillowy and it saved the dish! After we were done with our food, we waited quite a loooong time (5+ almost 10 minutes) before our waiter came back with a dessert menu. We ordered a Tiramisu thinking they forgot about my birthday dessert.... Lo and behold, they brought out the birthday tart, but no one other than my partner sang happy birthday to me.
