Came for the view but amazed by the food. I think my favorite thing about this awesome experience was our server. I wish i remembered his name, all I can remember is that he said he was Mexican. Every food item he recommended was amazing. We ordered one thing he didn't say was his favorite and when we didn't like it he wouldn't let us pay for it. All in all a night i will never forget. Cabra: I'm discovering that Chicago Hotels have some gems like The American Writers Museum and this Peruvian/Cuban rooftop bar. After entering through The Hoxton Hotel, take the elevator up to a lounge where a greenhouse meets Havana. Especially after a cold rainy day (I went in February), it feels like you're transported to a more tropical climate and a different time. With a view of the city, and framed vintage swimsuits it's a very fun lounge with pops of teals and pinks. I met up with a dear friend of mine who now claims Chicago as her home and caught up over cocktails and tapas. We had the oysters, ceviche, and goat empanadas while reminiscing. Cabra is great for a fun brunch spot. The interior is gorgeous and the service is top tier. Ive only been here for brunch but it is delicious. The shakshuka is by far my favorite dish. The falafel platter is also well worth it. The pastries were ok, the ones we got were cold and hard so not the best, but definitely have come back for the hot entrees. It was a beautiful day in Chicago and we wanted a place that was a little high to see the city! Cabra was a great choice to do so. Going up from the hotel the first time can be confusing as there's even a restaurant on the first floor. Our waiter generously explained the menu as tapas style as it was our first time. We weren't too hungry so we didn't order a lot, but it was still really good! Chorizo dip was my favorite part of the meal! The dip was creamy and rich. Amazing food! Came here for date night, got the salmon ceviche, crab causa, chicken thigh skewer, yuca fries and jalea mixta! Everything was delicious but our fave was the jalea mixta - Chef Izard never disappoints w her flavors! We had plenty leftover for 2 people but we wanted to try all of it! I love the vibe of this place. It is on the top floor of a boutique hotel in the West Loop and it has great views including a little enclosed heated terrace area. The service here is fantastic. The food is tapas style so we ordered 5 dishes for 4 people and left satisfied. The ceviche is fresh and delicious but does not come with chips. The food is Peruvian and very good especially the goat empanadas. The avocado dip is just a creamy guacamole so we could've skipped that for the price. It is fairly priced for the West Loop. I really enjoyed Cabra. We went when the weather was not warm enough to enjoy the full experience of sitting outside, but the food and drinks were still outstanding. The restaurant sits on top of the Hoxton hotel and offers great views. They have a wide range of cocktails and my wife and I enjoyed. Food wise, I would call out the chicken thigh and scallop as my two favorites. The scallop dish, in particular, has awesome flavor, and the serving is a larger quantity of smaller sized scallops. This made it easy to share. Additionally, the staff was nice and provided friendly service. The seating is also unique and comfortable - not your standard tables/chairs, but in a good way. Set on top the Hoxton Hotel in West Loop, Cabra is a rooftop restaurant that offers amazing food and captivating city views! My girlfriend and I got a reservation and we were able to get a really nice view of the city from our table. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Avocado Dip, Hamachi Tiradito, Chorizo Anticucho, Grilled Carrots, Steak Saltado, and Limorange Pie. The standouts for us were: -The Spicy Tuna Avocado Dip was perfectly complemented by thin and crispy Taro and sweet potato chips. The Dip had spicy yellowfin tuna, tomato yuzu, and a shio combo crunch. -The Grilled Carrots was also very good -- limey and cooked perfectly. They elevated a simple vegetable into a really delicious dish. -The Steak Saltado was the highlight and came with tomatoes, crispy potatoes, peppers, and onion. The meat was super tender and drenched with a delicious saltado sauce. While we didn't get to try the Goat Empanadas this time, they're definitely on our list for our next visit. Came here for resturant week brunch. I think it's a really solid deal. You should know that you are getting one item for two people. So I may recommend going in odd numbers. That being said there is A TON of food. You get 5 dishes, all of which were excellent. The meal opens with a tuna guacamole and a shrimp/potato civeche. I'm putting these both together because the heavy lime flavor profile, which I enjoyed, was very similar in both. The civeche was unique especially using the potato to cut the acidity. Really good dish. I want to note I got my own civeche because my friend ordered a vegetarian version as she was allergic to shrimp. The next portion was a big empanada which was good. Definitely tasted like breakfast in a pocket. Eggy, mapley, and hearty. Very tasty but this portion in particular felt like it was small for what you were getting (especially with the word "big" on the menu). Finally we had the quinoa passionfruit French toast which was the highlight and an incredible dish. Not overly sweet (yes there is ice cream on this dish) and really tasty. The passion fruit is also baked into the bread which I thought was genius. All in all the food was excellent and for 5 portions I think it was enough food. Just to make sure I'd recommend coming in odd numbers. Just a note: the service was super weird here. Everyone was nice. The manager came to check on us which was nice. Our server was not attentive. We had to ask him for everything including new plates and silverware. It was quite disappointing given the type of place this typically is. Just stopped here for a couple drinks on a Saturday night. Unfortunately there were no tables, so we sat at the bar because it was open. I would have loved to get a look at the City from this view, but it just didn't happen. The bartenders were so busy that those of us sitting at the bar were pretty much neglected, which sucked. Visited this wonder on an early Saturday afternoon with my best friend and I am glad she took me. We started off with a couple of drinks. We got the Pisco Sour and Return of Saturn and both were really good. We also got the salmon ceviche for an appetizer and I could honestly eat three of those and be a happy panda. We chose the Chicken Thai Anticucho and the Salchipapas to share for out main dishes. Both were really good and I love the spice on the chicken. Both great options to share, just wish they had more of it! Overall good place to enjoy some Peruvian food with a bestie or a good group. Noise level wasnt bad when we ate there (around 1230 -2). We tried Cabra for brunch. It was a nice experience until the staff kinda wanted us to leave at the 2 hour mark, which was kinda annoying. We ordered some mimosas for the table, sweater weather, almost famous and return of Saturn cocktails, followed by the avocado dip with chips, vegetarian ceviche and the spinach empanadas. The ambiance was clean and Peruvian inspired. However, their patio area was kept closed which was disappointing. My friend took me here when I was visiting for the weekend, and this was hands down one of the best dinner experiences I've had in a long time. The atmosphere was cool with dim lighting, music playing in the background and the bar area is a super cool vibe. The servers was super helpful and friendly and checked on us regularly, so we could kind of slowly order a variety of plates to share. The food was absolutely incredible. There's so much great stuff going on inside this building. After visiting the restaurant downstairs the other week, I was able to come to Cabra with a friend who had been wanting to visit. Another amazing meal! It's been so long that I've had a mediocre meal anywhere, so I'm happy to be on a 5-star streak lately haha. The only reservations available were for "outdoor" seating, but no need to worry as it's a heated+covered patio with a fire blazing and ceiling heaters blasting down. I will say that I would have preferred to not sit in the chairs we were in because they're angled at an upwards slope and quite uncomfortable, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I wish I got to try some food here at Cabra, but sadly I came here for some after-dinner drinks only (not sad though, because they were awesome - only sad because I didn't eat any food!) Cabra is a restaurant, bar, and pool all located on the rooftop of the Hoxton hotel. The views are gorgeous from up above on their terrace or any window seating - there's glass windows everywhere so you constantly can look out and see the Chicago skyscrapers! I'd come back here for the views alone. That aside, Cabra itself is HUGE! It's sooooo long and spacious with plenty of seating all throughout. Lots of natural lighting and the decorations are mild and cute. The service was great, too - our server and the hostess were both beyond courteous! I was visiting and had dinner with my cousin and his wife. Both our parents are Peruvian so his son suggested this place. The view is amazing and the restaurant is quite loud. I ordered the Pisco sour which was very good. I ordered the Papa a la Huancaína and I was not pleased. The sauce was nothing like what I am accustomed too. It was very bland and the potatoes were fried. Next I ordered the lomo saltado which they call "Steak Saltado. The flavor was amazing and rich. But it had no rice which is custom and it had peppers ??? So it's NOT authentic Peruvian food. It was more like fusion Peruvian. The desserts had no authentic Peruvian dishes except for Picarones but not traditionally made. I would probably not return. The nice part was the waitress who was very enthusiastic and helpful. Came here for a friend's birthday who had reserved a table for the 7-8 of us on the weekend. The ambiance here is very nice and airy. Given that you're on a rooftop essentially, expect to pay those prices. With it also being in the West Loop, you're also paying that type of price as well. We ordered a lot of different food and drinks, and the bill came out to be quite pricey as expected. I'd say only really come here for a drink and view unless you wanna ball out a little bit. This place doesn't serve authentic Peruvian food by any means - more so Peruvian fusion dishes. It was still good, but you pay a lot. It's certainly a nice place to take someone on a date though. I know there was a smaller pool adjacent to the outdoor portion of this restaurant, but the day I went I was a little bit chillier with rain so no one was out there. read more
