If you like Chipotle or Freebirds but wish they felt a little less corporate and had better ingredients, Cabo Bob's is the way to go. At its core, it's a build-your-own burrito / tacos / bowl place, but everything here just feels a notch better. More variety, like panko-crusted white fish as a protein, or the option to get pico OR just tomatoes, just onions, just jalapeños if you don't want all three. A lot of sauce options including ancho rancho, chipotle cream, and jalapeño sauce. Plus they have a mango pico all year round. Lots of options with the tortillas: smoky cheddar, cilantro tomatillo, ancho chili, and flour. One of my favorite "hacks" is ordering the sampler and getting one of each of the tortilla flavors. I've also seen burritos split half-and-half with two different flavors. They press the tortillas fresh from a ball of dough right in front of you. They also offer crispy tacos and corn tortillas, but the corn tortillas comes pre-flattened and just get heated on the griddle. This place is wildly popular. I've seen 20-minute lunch lines around 1 or 1:30 pm while the Chipotle down the street has no line at all. You'll see everyone here, state troopers, church youth groups, office workers, families. Order ahead if you can and you'll save the wait in line and can pick up from the to-go counter. The soda fountain uses off-brand or private-label sodas, not Coke or Pepsi. Totally fine for me, but if you're a Coke loyalist you may have to settle. If I had one criticism, it would be the bathrooms. At the location I go to, they're single-stall with one men's and one women's, and no occupancy indicators. I'd rather see two gender-neutral bathrooms with an occupied/unoccupied lock. Minor gripe, but noticeable given how busy this place always is. Fast-casual done right at one of Austin's best burrito shops.

I'm a fan. Love the sauce options, the variety of tortillas, and overall service. The tortilla flour is slapped onto the flat top griddle and you can see it come to life as it expands and deliciously browns (not like your typical heating up of already-made tortillas) As my cousins would describe this place, "it's a better chipotle." and it really is! Brought some back to LA, and even my parents who're typically picky with their burritos, commended the #4 crispy fish burrito w/ baja beans. Added on nopales and all the veggies as well - it was a generous serving! Half of the burrito was enough to get me full. The fish itself was super crunchy (like biting into a heavily battered tortilla chip) and didn't taste ocean-y at all. The only gripe I had with the fish is that the fish:batter ratio is low lol. It's a small layer of actual fish. I really liked the jalapeno sauce (perfect amount of spice) and the xxtra hot red sauce which isn't too spicy imo. I also appreciate that they have lime juice by itself (in addition to the actual limes if you prefer). It was like a 10-15 minute wait around 1230pm on a Saturday. Next time I'll try the beef w/ a combination of two tortilla flavors.

Cabo Bob's is going to be a hit almost anywhere it goes, especially in a place like Austin. It's the best kind of casual setup ideal for all parties, be it a big family group, a solo dining adventure, or even small group action. It is the kind of place where one can score a large burrito and leave in a fun food coma. In other words, come hungry and leave satisfied. The premise is simple: line up, tell the person behind the counter the order and work your way down the counter, and eventually find a place to sit. The waits can be long, especially during their lunch rush or weekend crowd but the wait for seating sometimes can be even longer. Takeout is always an option, especially for people who dislike everything I noted earlier. The theme about how Cabo Bob's became as such is plastered all over the place and the beachy decor is a cute reminder that life doesn't have to be so serious. The seating is tight where tables are close but there are enough seats to handle even the largest of crowds. Parking is substantial and the evenings are far less crowded than the daytime. Fish tacos are always an easy option, but one's mileage will vary. The safest and heartiest approach is feast on any of their burritos, which my favorite happens to be the brisket and queso and/or fish burrito with extra fixings. Bowls are fine, but I reserve them as a last resort. The young people who run the place are a friendly bunch and usually make the experience what it is. Prices are standard for casual fare and there is no drive-thru. I plan on coming back again to try more of the menu and looking forward to my soon'ish return.

Omg the $5.99 kids menu at Cabo Bob is one of the best deals in austin. 3 different entree options (burrito, tacos, or quesadilla), plus queso chips, and a small drink. Plus no upcharge for premium meats. Order in the app if you are embarrassed to order a kids menu item :) But you should be proud of it. Btw... too respond to the owner comment, ive lived in the condos right next door for 13 years (much of that time has been with you as a neighbor).

Some of the menu choices.

Cabo Bob's burrito's are enormous! They have so many flavor options, starting with the tortilla, you get to choose everything that goes into your meal. The soda machine is filled with interesting flavors too. Definitely a fun spot to get something to eat.

Gripping a Fish burrito

I love Cabo Bob's, everyone should try it at least once. I'm a regular here and it's easily one of my favorite quick bites in Austin. My usual order is a burrito with the fried fish, and the quality of ingredients really sets this place apart. Tortillas are made fresh in front of you, with multiple dough flavors you can even mix to your liking. Portion sizes are huge, and pricing is still great for what you get. It used to be under $10, but recent price increases have pushed it just over that mark. Lines can get incredibly long during peak lunch hours, so I'd recommend going outside of those times. It's loud and bustling with people typically. Their craft drinks at the soda machine are also delicious with a slight twist on your classic drinks. Parking varies, but there's usually turnover so you can find a spot. Hands down one of the best burrito spots around, this will always be in my top five for quick, easy eats in Austin.

I sometimes look at this picture to remind me how delicious this burrito was.

Service 4/5 Food 5/5 I have never tasted such a fresh, juicy, succulent burrito in my life. The dough was strong enough to withstand the behemoth of a burrito I created, yet soft enough to bite through. You watch a ball of dough turn into a warm tortilla, it does not get fresher than that. I ordered the fried fish as well, and it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Cooked to perfection. I didn't write anything about the ambiance because once I took a bite, I forgot everything else about the world. The best part was that it was still cheaper than other burrito spots. Chipotle doesn't stand a chance. The lines are always long for a reason so be prepared to wait. I would eat here every day if I could.

Cabo bob's how I love you. This location is always spot on and I love when I get fresh fish in my burrito!! Employees are so nice and vibes are good. You just can't beat the value of the mega burritos here, plus the ingredients are fresh and it actually tastes so good. Best BYOB(burrito) place HANDS DOWN!!

Salad fish

Always delicious! I always get the salad even though their flavors of tortilla are unique and cooked to order. Compared to other salad add ins, Cabo bobs got great variety! Mango or regular pico, sautéed poblano, zucchini and squash, cabbage and many more. I tried the fish this time, it only comes fried, fish was a little thin inside the breading, still good and not overcooked. Lastly the must-have sweet mint green tea, always perfect on a hot summer day!

This Cabo Bob's is so friendly to law enforcement when we visit at work. Today, I went with my colleagues and we were treated so well that one of my Lieutenants was approached by a civilian and the civilian bought our meal. Other than that, the fish tacos and fish burrito are insanely good and I only get them every time. The staff doesn't skimp on the toppings and even offers a law enforcement discount. While it's insanely busy around lunch time, the staff continues to kill the long line with exceptional service. My only complaint at this location is the location of the restroom but that doesn't take away from our experience.

Great spot! Prices are low especially for the amount of food they give you, food is delicious, and service is quick. It was dinner rush when we got in line but it moved fast, the tortillas are pressed right on the spot, and the staff are friendly. There's plenty of places to sit. I love how many topping, tortillas, and sauce options, they have and the cherry limeade is amazing. Check this spot out!

Pictured are three fish tacos.

Delicious and made to order. Pick your tortilla or bowl and add fresh toppings. Service was fast. We ate here twice in one day because we live out of town.

Pick your items you want. Sorry not the best picture of the board.

First time coming here, I would definitely come back again. I got the bowl with rice, chicken and brisket with black beans, cheese and lettuce. The Chipotle creme sauce and 66 hot was good. The 66 hot wasn't hot but it's a really strong vinegar taste. Which wasn't bad. The service was great, the line moved really quickly. If you haven't been here at least try it.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average
