Good luck getting the date or hotel you want. -When Vegas didn't work out we decided to book a vacation to Tennessee....because who would book a vacation in Tennessee right? Surely we would have access to one of the beautiful resorts they claim to do business with. NOPE. Can't even get a nice hotel in Tennessee. 2. You have NO choice in hotel. It's a lottery. They book your vacation and 24-72 hours later they TELL you what hotel they place you in. Want to stay in one of their resorts? $80 extra a night OR the Freaking Econo Lodge? LMFAO. 3. Do NOT spend your Cabellas's gift card or they'll take the $50 out of your vacation refund. *luckily I didn't spend it. If I had-I would have been pissed. 4. It is a very entertaining store with a million different things to do, you can get camping equipment, fishing gear, firearms, clothes and tons of other things. There is a restaurant and a mini museum to check it with the kids or family in general. Parking is a breeze and easy access from I35. The staff here are pretty friendly and helpful. Salesman acted like he was doing me a favor. It took me 15 minutes to warm him up. Left the store with a new Henry Rimshot.22 and opened the box to find out barrel was cracked. Returned 20 minutes later and the unhappy salesman told me it was my problem and better luck next time! Can you believe it? Management was great and took care of the trade out right away. I was here helping a company with its promo display on the weekend. It was my first visit. I was so impressed with Cabela's. Certainly the store is well-stocked with outdoors equipment, but it would be totally worth visiting just to see the aquarium displays, Africa and big game dioramas and to have a bite to eat upstairs in the cafe. What a great place for families. Also, as I was standing outside for a few hours, I visited with several employees, some of whom were older adults and some with disabilities. Day trip. We chose to go here and just look around and maybe by some ammo. However they were out of what I was looking for as usual. Happens regularly to be honest. Everything is pretty pricey for my pocket and merging with Bass Pro didn't bring the prices down, at all. Nothing seems to have changed since this merger except for a few cheaper Bass Pro labeled items. When we were searching for decorations for our Achy Breaky (You Can't Text Message Break Up!) Washed Up Country Star Christmas Party, we found a "beautiful white Christmas tree" in Buda for $20 on Craigslist. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves into when the Craigslister with said tree ("it looks real purty with them blue sparkly lights") asked if we wanted to meet in the parking lot of Cabela's to make the swap. One, we arrive and there are dumpy white men high-fiving each other in the parking lot, bouncing off of each other's bellies, waving shopping bags around like they had just hit the Powerball. If you've got a vagina, this is pretty common but I'd never seen this kind of shopping euphoria among middle-aged men. I am afraid. Very afraid. We've got time to kill because we're early. This is the part of the story where we enter Cabela's and I am like, "HOLY FUCK!" Thousands of stuffed animal carcasses. Woolly mammoth. Bison. Angry fucking polar bear (clearly deserved to be shot!). Zebra. Angry Zebras (they had it coming). Crocodiles (even growing up in Florida, we didn't shoot no Gators). Life-size cutout of George Strait (please don't shoot). Seriously people, I couldn't make this shit up. Look at the pics yourself. Onward! Guns. More Guns. Gun Holders. Gun Fanny Packs. Guns for Kids. Guns for Sea Monkeys. Guns for Infants. Guns for Guns. Guns for Gramma. Did I mention the dead animals propped up all over the place? Oh yes. There's an animatronic hunter who tells you how fucking AWESOME it is shoot shit. Basically, the theme of this place is: SHIT YOU CAN SHOOT. Shit You Can Shoot is all over the fucking place! Dead animals in the arctic tundra. Dead animals in the African Serengeti. Dead animals near your camp ground. You basically need to be equipped to shoot shit wherever you go. While all of this truly fucking awe-inspiring, my favorite thing in the entire store (and this is really really saying a lot) was the zoo-like sign posted near the giant fucking elephant entitled: "An Open Letter to Hunters and Wildlife Enthusiasts." It goes on to say how white and European hunters from "international organizations" saved civilization AND elephants by shooting them down because the "stupid Africans" were poaching, encroaching, and/or letting them overpopulate. Wow--whitey saved civilization? AND elephants? SERIOUSLY, IS THERE ANYTHING WHITE PEOPLE WITH GUNS CAN'T DO??? Just so you know, Cabela's, if for some reason that "Open Letter to Hunters" sign ever has: "WE DON'T WANT TO BE SHOT. Sports and outdoors! This place is Texas-sized. It's a huge store. The place has a wide selection of fish, and stuffed animals. They've got a mountain set up in the center of the store, covered in different types of goats, bears, and other taxidermied animals. It's interesting to see the wide variety of animals that they've got stuffed. They've got different zones of different types of animals, like a hall of large bucks, or impressive bears. My favorite part is the fish. They've got a bunch of aquariums full of giant big mouth basses, catfish, and perch. You can get a huge selection of camping, fishing, and outdoorsy equipment. They've even got a selection of foods you can take camping with you, like dehydrated foods and cooking gear. There's a large gun selection here- they've got a room that has a wide variety of unique guns, plated in precious metals, or with intricate carvings on the sides of the weapon. Of course, you can just get more plain rifles, pistols, and other weapons quite easily. You're in Texas. There's a big selection of fishing equipment, with lots of lures, reels and all the fishing equipment you can ever possibly need (including the boats!) I like to come here and see what kinds of new technology they're throwing into the lake to track fish. Parking is ample. There's a gigantic lot in front. There's even a shooting arcade here, where you can shoot laser guns at various targets, and they react to getting shot. It's a fun stop off when driving from San Antonio to Austin, and headed out to go into the Great Outdoors. On a side note, I heard that Cabella's got bought out by its main competitor, Bass Pro Shops, or vice versa. read more

This place is huge! I would definitely say it is the mecca of all things outdoors. They seem to have something for everyone in the family as far as what you might be interested in. Need a kayak or paddle board for the lake? They got that! Need some ammo for your hunting trip? They got it! Need some hiking clothes for your next trip to the state park? Got it! Maybe you need some water shoes for the river? Plenty to choose from here! How about a pair of new flip flops for that summer vacation or for just looking cool? Got it! Maybe you have been thinking about canoeing? Got those! Maybe you have been looking for some goolash boots or fancy rain boots so your feet stay dry during all this rain we have been having lately? Well they have plenty to choose from in that department too! Oh and maybe you need a new Yeti cooler for the beach or your 10 day camping trip? They have it all! Ok so you get the point. Cabela's really does it big. They have some pretty cool displays on how to use some of their stuff throughout the store too. On my recent visit here I was with my dad and he signed up for the Cabela's club. Becoming a member is free and you get a store credit card. When there are new store openings you get special invites for friends and family and get things at the employee discount. My dad was pleased at this as they are opening up a store down the street from his house in South Texas soon. So if you are looking for a store that has all the outdoors stuff you could possibly want then Cabela's is the place! read more

A couple of years later, almost to the day, I'd like to report that my cojones are in good hands now, thanks to Cabela's. No, it's not what you think it is. Let me explain. Somehow, I happened across the Cabela's July sale flyer, and fell in acquire lust with a Kershaw knife. It was over half off list price, and, wannabe knife collector that I am, I just had to have me one. So I did what any red blooded American male would do and went by after work and got mine! I also stopped by the gun counter and took a look at their handguns. I received good, friendly assistance from the fellow behind the counter, who tipped me off to the Lone Star Gun Range in Lockhart that is just a little more expensive than dry firing. Well, it's less expensive than Red's in Oak Hill, let's put it that way. Turns out Lone Star actually has one of the guns I was considering available for rental. In all honesty, he did try to steer me a little harder toward toward one brand than the other (the Ruger is American-made and more expensive than the Brazilian-made Taurus), but that's just a bit of good old-fashioned salesmanship. The checkout process at the register was pleasant and fast. I even picked up a a bag of candy on the way there. Come to think of it, I may want to avoid that path next time, since I hunt candy naturally without any help from Cabela's. Heck this place isn't half-bad, once you get past all the stuffed critters! read more

It's clean and neat, and has amazing displays such as taxidermy, an aquarium for sport fish, a running river alive with fish, a restaurant featuring exotic game, a shooting gallery, and enormous sections for guns, hunting, clothing, and camping gear, all dominated by Cabella's house brand stuff that has a "lifetime guarantee" About the "Lifetime Guarantee" on Cabella's branded merchandise? As the return desk employee very politely explained "it's guaranteed for the life of the product.... when the product breaks down or wears out the guarantee is expired" He must have seen the disbelief on my face. "Yeah, I know" the nice returns guy said, We get a lot of misunderstandings about that" Ironic, since the overhead sound system was blaring "...and remember, we stand behind all Cabella's branded merchandise with our lifetime guarantee" If that's their stance now, they deserve the store full of overpriced products bereft of any customers to buy them. I'll not be buying any more camping gear here. Amazon is cheaper and more convenient, especially for name brands, and a guaranteed-until-it-breaks support of house brand things does not impress me. Even Walmart does much better than that. No wonder they can build other businesses in their parking lot...they don't need spaces for the customers. Hey, let's look at the bright side... I had not yet been to Cabela's when we were invited to a birthday party there. Sweet. It was a lot closer to town than we gave it credit, so we got there in no time flat. At first, when you enter it's a pretty impressive place. All the stuffed animals are interesting and they all have placards telling you what the animal is. Then the mountain in the middle starts looking more phoney. Eh, it's a sports store and we're here for a birthday party. So you go up to the Conference Center for the party room. Really? Who has a conference here? Maybe classes, but actually calling it a conference area? Their weak attempt at a kid's party was mediocre. It appears they did provide what little structure there was. We went down to the fish pond first. The older fellow that I assume was a store employee led us down to the pond. I'm not sure what his purpose was. I was waiting for him to tell us about the fish and what kind of habitat they were trying to recreate. I'm obviously spoiled by geeks and scientists, because not only did he not know, he didn't particularly care that he didn't know. Now that's some redneck fun there. Next was the shooting gallery and I'm not too proud to admit I really dug it. Last was a "scavenger hunt" that didn't include going to the aquarium or going to another huge display of stuffed goats and deer. A little more effort on the part of Cabela's would have made it an awesome experience. So how about the store? It was stupid expensive. They had some things which appear that you would not be able to find them anywhere else (like the propane griddle big enough for your next cowboy picnic), but everything else could be had at Academy for cheaper or REI at the same price and possibly higher quality. read more

I looked online for an item I needed to exchange for a different size and determined it was in stock at the Buda store. When I got to the store the item couldn't be found even though their system showed four in inventory. It was something only sold behind the counter but wasn't there or anywhere else they looked. Complete failure of their inventory system to actually track what's in stock - unreliable at best. Don't trust that something is in stock unless someone can put their hands on it. They're having another store that has it overnight it to them but it means another 50 mile round trip to pick it up - IF the other store actually ships it to them. Apparently that's not reliable either. Customer service was friendly and helpful (the second star) but completely handcuffed by incorrect systems and poorly controlled processes. Update: my item came in so I came back down the next night to pick it up. It was open-air which nobody at the other store bothered to mention. It's in new condition and has a no questions lifetime warranty from the manufacturer but Cabela's continues to disappoint with sub-par service. read more

Worst experience ever buying a firearm. I thought it would be easier to order online knowing what I wanted to buy. Got to Cabela's and found out I had to still make a line because they did not have a separate line for online pickup. People were taking their time deciding what they wanted to buy because apparently they did not do their research before deciding to buy a firearm. I complained to a manager who looked to be wearing out the carpet more than working. His excuse was they only had 3 computers that were able to do the background checks. Well 5 hours later I'm still in line waiting with strangers that are just as upset. My first experience buying a firearm at Cabela's will definitely be my last. Specially after seeing management not even trying to take care of a situation of a process that should not take this long. I recommend taking your business somewhere else unless you have more than 5 hours to spare standing in line. read more

I love wandering around in this place. Beautiful wildlife exhibits, clean place with everything you could ever want for outdoor activities. Well then; Why only two stars? I am in my early 70s. I dress well, except when doing yard work. I don't have any bizarre physical features but I have visited the gun dept. three times in the last six months and have never been approached by an associate to see if I needed anything. I am in the market for two specific guns but probably wont be buying them there. I have seen associates talking to each other or just chatting with a customer but have never been asked if I had questions or needed help. Man that works in the shoe department leaves something to be desired. I thought it was just a bad day for him when I went alone a couple months ago. I asked for a shoe in a certain size, he came back and threw the boxes down and said they didn't have this size but brought me two others - one up and down a size. I ended up buying shoes from Amazon instead. Went in today with my husband, he asked for a shoe in a size and the guy just comes back and says we are out. I don't hunt, fish, canoe, hike or really even run so I thought coming to this place was going to be a snooze-fest but lo and behold, I was entertained! I even thought about buying a crossbow if only because I want to be like Darryl from the Walking Dead. The decor of this massive store is amazing. It's like going to the Zoo where all the animals are dead. Ok, that sounds horrible but these stuffed animals (not the cute and cuddly kind) are really cool to look at up close. Did you know that Moose are freakin huge?! This Texas gal had no clue. Also nestled inside Cabela's is a big aquarium with all kinds of fish that reside in Texas lakes. If looking at giant catfish makes you hungry, there is also a cafe located on the second story right next to the General Store which gives out fudge samples. Get the Moose Spit one! read more

I am very disappointed in the Lack OF Service I received today... I walked in to buy a Smith & Wesson M&P Ez. There were two employees behind the counter, both which where with a customer. So I took a number .... #27 was displayed and I was 28 was my number. I stood back waiting for the next available salesman to call my number .... about 15 min Later the sales man that was waiting on a customer by the used guns, finished with his customer, instead of calling my number..... he just attended to a man that was standing at the counter. I thought wellI will stand at the counter so that he salesman know I'm need assistance. An other salesman came from the back room He helped an other walk up customer, so I decided to leave, and not purchase anything from your store. This isn't the first time I've had bad or Insulting Service, a year ago About a year ago I went to your store to purchase an A.R. 15 lower and the man said "you know you have to go through a background check on this" I said yes I do I presented him with my CHL license. I just wanted some ammunition, but I thought I would look around at some of the other things in the store to see what was interesting. After all, Cabela's is "destination shopping". The whole review can be summed up like this: the prices are high. Too high. I'll give you an example... Backpack, The North Face, model Recon. The MSRP is $89, and Cabela's price is $99. I just checked Amazon, and the backpack is $74.95. This isn't a mistake, because I checked several other products around the store, and the same thing was seen everywhere. What infuriated me was the price of ammo. The price online does not match the price in the store. Bait, and switch. Muther!@#%$. And the organization of the ammo is confusing as heck. The labeling on the shelves stink, too. And the gun nut selling shotguns at the counter was scaring me. Really. Any sort of big outdoor activity item you could possibly need and more! They have clothing they have fishing, hunting, archery, camping, and BBQ gear! They have real Crocs in many different styles, colors and types. They have that cabin or hunting lodge outdoorsy indoor decor. There are toys for the kids. They have a very tasty restaurant. Nothing spectacular but it beats fast food all to hell and is reasonably priced too. {now unlike the first reviewer it makes perfect sense to me to close the restaurant down before the rest of the store as it takes much longer to close and clean to legal standards - my guess is the first reviewer has never had to work a wage slave job in his life or he'd know how much more time and effort closing down a food service area takes versus making a few floor sweeps and closing out registers} They have a candy shop with some really unique and succulent home made fudge flavours. There is an aquarium stocked with some huge examples of local freshwater fish. They have museum-esque displays all over the store {if you don't mind taxidermy} which is really good for keeping children interested. They are, however, very proud of their merchandise {so price it to reflect that} and just cannot find myself able to agree with my sister who is of the opinion it's priced that high because it will last forever....nothing does anymore in our disposable consumer society. read more

I was amazed when I pulled up Yelp and was going to leave a review for Cabelas this evening based on my experience tonight. Cabelas does not fail to disappoint - even after two years. I foolishly went there after calling to confirm they had the item firearm I was looking for. I arrived and there were two people working the counter and not many people in line ahead of me - so I chose to wait. I waited 50 minutes while they serviced three people - efficient. I also observed 4-5 people turn, get out of line and leave - tired of the wait. When it finally became my turn, i went to the counter and asked to see the item that I was looking for. The counter person - I am hard of hearing - you will have to take your mask off. I complied quickly, but being a cancer survivor- wasn't thrilled. The person went to find the item - after several trips out and back from the storage area - they returned. The person opened the box and took it out. As he was removing it from the bag it was in - I reached to receive the item and was quickly told, rather abruptly - can you wait till I get it out of the bag - I quote. Hmm. Maybe it was my almost hour of waiting or the feeling that a parent was slapping my fingers for some offense - but I decided that I didn't need it that bad. Nice place. If they have one of something, they have several. Pricing is pretty much retail. Didn't see any real big bargains. There is a small cafe on the mezzanine. You can get hot and cold food and desserts. We opted for a slice of Oreo cookie pie and a freshly baked macadamia white chocolate cookie. It was still warm and slightly soft. Really good. If you were blindfolded and taken into Cabela's, then had the blindfold removed, you really wouldn't be too sure of where you are. You could be in a Bass Pro Shop or in a Gander Mountain. They look that much alike. The aquarium and stuffed animal collection is pretty neat. Lots of kid toys. I'd say a cross between Bass Pro Shop and Buckee's. read more

I'm not gonna lie, this place was just sorta alright for me. I understand that it is primarily focused towards the hunting crowd but they still had was less actual gear than I expected. If you are a car camper or do a lot of stuff in RV parks this may be the spot for you. They had everything from electrical smokers and fryers to outdoor recliners. If your bringing your kid out for a weekend trip to Bastrop State Park or it's equivalent you could also get by shopping here. For me, personally, I do a lot more primitive camping and back country hiking. The type of stuff that I would normally be looking for, I couldn't seem to find here. They had some decent bags but that was all that popped out to me. As far as real survival gear and materials you would need for an extended amount of time in the bush, you are not going to find what you need here. They had a very small selection of kayaks and other water gear but where they lacked in adventure gear they made up for in hunting and fishing gear. They were heavily stocked on both and this place would be a mecca for your everyday hunter or fisherman. They also had a wide array of stuffed big game that were set on different dioramas throughout the store. I thought this was very interesting and added a lot of curb appeal to the place. I also really dug the aquarium with the assorted game fish of the region. They had some enormous fish that were fun to check out! This is a good store to go and see even if you are not the outdoorsy type. If you are a hardcore backpacker/rock climber/survivalist this is not your ideal place for gear. I was very happy to find out that there was a general store on the 2nd floor where they sell fudge as well as a food court where they sell an array of different sandwhiches and grilled foods. i got a bison dog, with sour kraut and grilled onions. it was very yummy. i figured i might as well get something where else am i going to be able to get a bison dog, and elk sandwich and they had a few other game foods too. read more

Stopped by Cabela's to pick up some fudge. Plenty of sales people with nothing to do, the entjre way through the store. I get to the fudge room, no one. I thought maybe they were in the restroom and looked around the areas nearby. 2 more people went in and looked around. Stillno one. I finally gave up and left. With so few customers, you would think if they needed to step away, they could call someone to cover the counter. There must've been 10 people standing around the entrance chatting. My family and I visited Cabela's back in November 2019 (the one in San Marcos Texas) and it was my and my grandmother's first time at this outdoor store, my uncle and cousin who live in texas were touring us and my God is this outdoor store remarkable. I mean it isn't just a store it is an experience an all in one! They sell clothes and outdoor activity gear, wear and equipment, hunting stuff, gadgets and trinkets, they have a museum that is huge, an aquarium with beautiful sea life, a cafe, a restaurant, an ice cream parlor, If my memory serves me correctly a bookstore, they also sold children's toys, shoes...some of everything. They are accommodating to those with handicap limitations, there was an elevator inside and an escalator, and stairs for those who are able. Restrooms are okay, and managed to stay pretty clean, they did not have toilet seat covers however, which I noticed was pretty common around some parts of Texas. We absolutely loved this place, we spent about 3 hours in this store. read more
