We went taking a stroll towards the front end of Hyatt (we were staying here) during the lunch hours. Happened to enter this divine place. We were seated at the booth of our choice right away. Ambience is great !! I told them being very straight forward that I have a very limited proficiency of the English language. Our server brought us the welcome dish "apples and hakama" served with authentic Mexican spicy sauce which provided a very refreshing flavor to our taste buds and opened gates of our appetite. I also ordered a lemonade and tamarind margarita, both were out of the world. I ordered Kassito Cabanna for appetizers, we both liked it so much that we couldn't resist ordering another lot. Two highest recommendations for the main course - Camaron Roca and Chiles Torito. I will tell you, I ordered a lot of authentic Mexican food but our bill was just $26 dollars for two people. The same food in US at a similar level restaurant would easily cost atleast $100 for two people. The best part was our server Eduardo understood our taste buds and served us exactly what we were looking for. You don't get these kinds of flavors in US and if you do, it's pretty expensive. Cabanna offers a tapas-style menu that is diverse, inventive and flavorful. We tried around 12 different dishes including tacos, tostadas and 'antojos.' The best ones for us were: leche de tigre, maria, gobernador and 7 chiles. The one that was outstanding was 'Zara' - very soft fish with an amazing flavor served over a freshly made corn tortilla... A must try (I would recommend removing the tomato and lettuce to enjoy the fish's taste the most). The margaritas are solid... Little awkward to drink because they are frozen and looks more like an ice-cream than a drink but definitely worth it. With your desert, have a carajillo instead of your regular coffee... Poor sanitation between customers. Watch out! 2) servers anxious to take away menu after ordering even 1 taco. I like to keep the menu here and order as I go because half the menu is a la carts. 3) No one will check on you to see how you are doing . Plenty of staff around but you have to get their attention to get service. 4) They serve salsa but no chips. However sliced apple and jicama is classy. 5) No coordination of food. Food comes out when it's ready. No expo. In all, I recommend this place if you are partying with a big group that likes to drink maybe before a club. Classy pre party atmosphere with zero personal service and possibly scary sanitation. Nice view. Great place to impress a girl. Food is good except for the pizzas. Sitting in a sort of cabana like table with vibrant color and friendly people in the middle of the most upscale strip mall in Tijuana...if that sounds like you then you should check this spot out. They have a full bar and looked like some fun drinks were coming out of there, I missed out since I was here for lunch on weekday and it may have been a bit early for me to get shitfaced. One of the best seafood restaurants in TJ. A seafood stand in TJ is probably the same quality and maybe a tad cheaper but if you want a restaurant experience this is the place to go. The service is amazing, probably 50% more staff than what a normal restaurant would do. They have water, food samples and sometimes alcohol while you are waiting for free. Food is delicious and affordable. Parking is only $1 for like 2 hours. If you want to be full, You would expect around $15 per person. Only downside is that they don't really split the checks. You are having soy and avocado and shrimp sprinkled on it. Over all, this is an upscale chain like Red Lopster for Mexicans, but its not even authentically prepared, again all the ingridients are soy salsa and avocado. Its overpriced. The portions are tiny and are priced as if you were ordering a full plate. Dont be deceived by the value of the peso. For what you are getting you are getting ripped off. The only respectable thing about Cabanas is that their alcohol is good. The have a very good selection, good mixed drinks, good blended drinks. Good alcohol all around. And that is one of the main reasons why people keep coming back. But the food sucks. Service is good. I have to hand it to them. But remember, you could be served shit on a silver platter and have friendly waiters with top customer service, and be paying 3x more than you should be paying for shit, but they give you a nice drink to chug the shit down.
