I've been to Cabanna a dozen times, to be honest I wasn't sure if I was going to like it because of all the hype it has, but the food is actually pretty tasty and on occasions I crave their tacos. Cabanna is definitely a restaurant not your typical taco stand in Tijuana. I've tried their popular margaritas (as seen in my photos) but I have to say that my personal favorite drink is the Pepino tentacion or maybe it's called tentacion pepino, hmm not sure. Either way, it's absolutely delicious! It's not too sweet or too sour, it's just perfect and refreshing. It has a piece of pepino and little boba at the bottom. Must try! The camaron roca is my favorite appetizer. (Rock Shrimp) It makes me say mmmm! It's crispy and fluffy and have bursting flavors. I can eat the whole thing. I enjoy their shrimp and cheese tacos but my taste buds just love their arrachera (steak) and cheese taco, it has a slice of avocado and their "house sauce" the meat is always juicy and flavorful. Their desserts are also very tasty, their pay de platano (banana pie) is my all time favorite. It's a pie withe the perfect crust, stuffed with fresh bananas inside a cheesecake it's simply delightful. It's the perfect way to end my meal at Cabana. The staff is always friendly and attentive, yes they are usually pretty busy no matter what time or day you go, and yes you will pay more here than at a taco stand. Typically when I've gone it's at least $50 for tacos, drinks, appetizers and desserts. read more

No expectations when my wife and I visited Cabana last night. Service from the host staff and servers were exceptional as you would expect from any established in Mexico. My drink order had a piece of plastic floating in in that looked to come from the bottom ring of a bottle cap. Also our drinks were not cold at all and may have needed more ice. Tijuana is not the place most Americans thought of in the 1980s & 90s. This restaurant in the medical district of town, is a safe, upscale area. I would even feel comfortable dining here alone during my visits to the medical district. Now---the food is to die for! I call it Argentina, but it may we'll be described as South American fare---whatever the correct label, it's simply devine! We enjoyed the cooked shrimp dish in mango salsa---YUM! Never had a dish of this caliber before, anywhere. We opted to try the Asian BBQ dish---something we didn't see any reviews for, but we wanted to venture out of the popular realm into a dish not previously reviewed. And WOW were we impressed! This is probably my favorite place to have a margarita in tj. Margaritas here are awesome! I have been here a couple of times and omg every single time is super super yummy!!! Let's start off by the host! They are very attentive and efficient. They don't make you wait that long. When you sit you can choose either in or out! They have different options. They take apples and fruit with chamoy to your table as complementary! The aguachiles are so so good!! Very fresh seafood. Good amount, flavor, not too spicy though for my liking but it's okay. The ceviche is so so good I loved it. The tacos are so bomb!!! Every single food there is good even the pizza the four cheese pizza. As desserts omg they have the best dessert very tasty!!!! Amazing food. From the barbecue pork ribs to the banana pie. The fresh tuna poke style tostada to the fresh thinned slices sashimi style salmon. Everything was amazing. The pizza was the only mediocre thing we had. Totally recommend this place. We had a tamarindo adult beverage that was to sour for my tasting but the wife enjoyed it. This place is it, the place lived up to my expectations, even surpassed them. Everything in here was very good, I had some jumbo shrimp with garlic and butter, they were so good, they pretty much tasted like lobster to be honest with you. My daughter had the shrimp and queso taco with homemade tortilla which was absolutely incredible, full of flavor , the shrimp were just perfect, flavor galore. We had the flan for dessert and the tres leches cake, both were great and one of a kind, the service was very good, professional and speedy with the servers more than happy to suggest goodies off the menu, they were all spot on. When we arrived this time we were lucky and had no problems getting a seat. When we left there was at least 30 people waiting and the restaurant was full. There's indoor and outdoor seating which is great. If you sit outside you are surrounded by TV"s and they had sports on. The food, OMG amazing. What shouldn't you get? Try one of everything. Every time i go i get a new favorite. This time i would recommend the steak taco. Seems simple but the flavors are explosive, trust me. To drink, you must have a margarita. It's made with real fruit. Don't be afraid to speak up if something is not to your liking, the wait staff here is amazing. Our mango margarita had a taste after expiration date. When a mango isn't ripe it has this funky aftertaste which you could taste in the drink. It was unfortunate but had it replaced with a strawberry one and it was amazing. Can't go wrong with fresh fruit. Another thing to keep in mind is that since its in a mall you have to wait to find parking and its charged in 2 hour increments. This place is so chill, but hella fancy. You can either eat outside, or inside. Me and my best friend chose to eat outside, to see the view of the city. They have heaters outside (since it was chilly) as well as TV's and a bar area. The restaurant was very clean. And the service was very friendly and hospitable. The servers and managers were also very attentive. They kept coming back and forth to make sure everything was okay, and if we needed anything else. I actually wanted michelada, which they didn't have it in their menu, but the manager was very open minded and kind enough to have his team make it for me. It definitely made my whole day! That's the kind of hospitality that I wish most places would do! Me and my best friend felt really valued and welcome here. The food is very reasonable. And the food quality is amazing! The location is in a shopping center, along with other restaurants/bars. There are also shopping centers that are very walkable nearby if the shopping center in this location isn't for you. The place is very comfortable and has great service, it also has plenty of parking since is on a fairly new plaza. In regards of the food the two dishes that I really recommend are the aguachile taquitos as an appetizer and the Blue tuna tostada, those two are the winners, the rest of the menu its ok but not great. Beverage selection is more than adequate. The place has two areas; inside and outside, during the winter they use patio heaters so you would not have a problem with being cold. So let me start by saying it is a beautiful place. The food was decent. We had the shrimp Roca which were good. I got the caramel shrimp which were good but they came out cold. My mother got the Culichi pasta which she enjoyed. My daughter got shrimp nuggets. The reason why I am giving them a bad review was because the service was really bad. I asked for ketchup for my daughter and 10 minutes passed and still did not bring it. I had to ask a second time and he just drop the ketchup packets on the table. He did not give us his name when introducing himself. He did not come to check up on us at all. We had to grab his attention. The restaurant was already closing and we were one of the last tables and he did not come to us until we called at him while we were done. He was not pleasant to deal with. The food came out at different times and took long and some of it came out cold. I was very disappointed with the service of this establishment. I love trying out new restaurants and was excited about this one but after this i do not think I will be coming back. This was the second time I've dined at Cabanna. The first time was over a year ago and it was fantastic. Great service, drinks, and food. The second time, not so much. I was really disappointed. The place has great atmosphere and is in one of the nicer neighborhoods (Chapultapec) in TJ but the food just wasn't the same. What a difference a year makes. I had the same experience with Lion Fish in Zona Rio. They've both gone downhill but they've still got plenty of patrons. read more

If you're looking for some super fresh seafood and open to trying some fusion type dishes (Asian-Mexican fusion), Cabanna has got you covered! First off, if you're a bit skeptical about crossing over the border from SD, you are totally missing out on some damn good food and awesome hospitality that restaurants on this side of the border lack (please take note, SD restaurateurs). Cabanna is located inside this high-end mall (similar to Fashion Valley) so you'll feel like you haven't even left the states. Okay, on to the good details. There will probably be a decent wait if you're coming on given night around dinner hours. We waited just a few minutes but if you've got a bigger party, don't be surprised if the wait is 20+ minutes. Service was very good as we were greeted and they brought us to our table once it opened up. Our waiter came around and took down our order and was nice enough to give recommendations on what they were known for and which dishes were popular. We started off with a complimentary dish that was made out kimchee but rolled into the shape of a taco (daikon "roll" with carrots inside). This was a good little starter to get our palate ready for the feast. Their bluefin tuna is a must have. It is served sashimi style, topped over this wonton tostada, garnished with some extra crispy garlic, which was so good I could have ate nearly half a dozen of these things! Another dish I highly recommend is their shrimp ceviche served over this mango sauce topped off with carrots and green onions (sorry, I can't recall any of the dish names). It blended together very well, especially when you eat it together with the tostadas on the side. Their shrimp taco is damn tasty too. Though this is common and can be found just about anywhere in TJ, it was made fresh to order and was lightly battered, with a piece of fresh avocado and sauce inside. Your mouth will water before you even manage to pick it up (don't drool onto your phone when you're taking food porn pics). We didn't get a chance to try out more dishes as it was my friends' first time being down in TJ so I wanted to show them much more of the hole-in-the-wall joints and street food on the other side of town. What a wonderful dinner at Cabanna. On a Monday night, when my husband and I came here for dinner without advance reservations, we got seated immediately. I was very impressed with the decor and ambiance when I walked into the restaurant. Everything looks so chic and contemporary. We got seated in one of those colorful booths - so cozy and intimate. Loved it. From the menu, we ordered a Mango Margarita, Jamaican Lemonade for drinks. For entrees, our choices were Camaron Roca (Rock Shrimp) and Pizza Monggol (Pizza with tuna, shrimp & octopus). We had reservations and, although we arrived at 3pm on a Saturday, it was not too busy and our party of 17 sat down very quickly. They have chairs outside for when the wait is long but, they were are available ashen arrived. It's a nice look inside. Everything is new. The chairs are comfortable. 42" flat panels in every direction. It wasn't loud with music or what was on TV. Just the sounds of many conversations and the ambient noise entering the outdoor patio-type area we sat in. The waiters I'll give a 6 out of 10. Attentive as could be but hampered by the long waits from the kitchen. I ordered a Mar y Tierra Burrito and I wanted to try their Quesito Cabanna taco. The taco came first. It was dispatched quickly. The Burrito plate came later and I thought they'd forgotten. As for flavor, it seemed lacking. Not flavorful. I began to wonder the ingredients are not fresh. When the Mar y Tierra Burrito plate came, it too seemed to lack the flavor I would expect from a trendy place like this. Later, I ordered an ice cream cone for desert. I dug out three pieces of ice! Who knows how long it's been in stock and I had visions of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare when Gordon is shocked by refrigerators and freezers with old product inside. I was pretty much convinced the food is not fresh. I will say this; I was very impressed with Plaza Paseo Chapultepec. The parking structure and parking is outstanding. The best I've seen in Tijuana. The entire plate is like a mall of restaurants. And it's still a work in progress as many more are still to move in. Would I go back? Probably not voluntarily. But, that's just me. Here's a tip for anyone that can't read Spanish like me, order the photos. The way I figure it, they take photos of the best dishes anyways. (wife and in laws all speak spanish) We came here on a Monday to eat dinner and it was partially busy. We didn't have reservations and it was a small wait, but they seated us at one of the tables within a cabanna. Decor was trendy but still warm. The group mostly stuck with tacos and tostadas. We didn't really notice it but we all ordered the kesito cabanna taco which had shrimp, cheese, and avocado in it. It was about $2 U.S. but it tasted like it should of been twice that and more. I ended up with two tostadas which were the Sake and the Atun Azul tostadas which contrasted in tastes which I was really hoping for. I ended the night with a salmon and tuna crudo dish that was swimming in some lemon soy and it was awesome. If you're from San Diego and can find a guide around TJ, I highly recommend this place.
