We've been going to C & D for probably 20+ years on our trips to eastern Oregon and Montana and have always enjoyed their food and friendly service. This was our fourth time through this year and each time it seems like it's going more and more downhill. The last time the food wasn't very good and we had to wait for what seemed like forever, so this trip we called our "eat in" order when we passed Hermiston, (we even gassed up at the gas station next to C & D first). Entering the restaurant we went to the window to pay, only to be greeted by a cashier that seemed to either dislike people, hate her job, or both. I usually tip 30%, but tipped 15% because of her attitude, ...after the entire dining experience I wished I hadn't tipped at all. Our meal still took 12 minutes, which is crazy given how much time had passed since we called it in. We could hear the crew laughing and joking around in the kitchen while we waited, and wondered what the other customers waiting for their food must have thought. Wish they could be that happy/friendly with their customers. After our order was up we had to tell them they forgot our drinks, when they handed me my Coke Zero the server mentioned it might be flat, I tasted it and it was, so I gave it back to her. So then, and only then, did they change it out the cylinder making me wonder how many "to go" customers they let it slide on? As luck would have it, we were still missing my granddaughter's milkshake, which took another 5 mins. The service was lazy at best, the food was not nearly as good as it used to be, and as we left my wife asked me if it might have changed ownership. Our daughter and family stopped on their way back from Montana later that same day. Their text stated that they had a similar experience and it had gone downhill. Sad after all these years, but I guess maybe it's time to look for a new pit stop. read more

it was already a busy day so I didn't expect much. all i ordered was a scoop of ice cream, so I was not expecting to wait ten minutes. as I'm watching the girl finally scoop the ice cream, she sets it down on the counter and closes the glass to the ice cream display. however, the cup was right in the middle of the track of the glass--so the glass went into my ice cream and sliced my foam cup. I watched the whole thing happen. she proceeded to serve that bowl of ice cream to me (the same scoop and bowl) after I just watched it get mangled by the glass case. it was one thing for it to take 10 minutes for a singular scoop of ice cream, but another for her to serve it to me after the accident. should've rescooped it in my opinion. read more

We love to stop at this place whenever we're passing through Oregon; which has been quite often this year. Serving great burgers since 1966 so it's not new but it's okay with us. We love that the bathrooms are clean! The workers are cleaning, sweeping, & seem happy about it. Tables are always washed & clean; which is rare at a lot of busy fast food places. They've always been so friendly friendly and eager to help with orders. Milkshakes are thick and flavorful! Burgers are awesome. Especially happy they don't skimp on the sauces and fixings. Yum. Keep up the good work C&D and to those who work there!! Thank you for your efforts to work hard and be so darn cheerful!!! Big burgers very well priced. Fish sandwich is not one of my favorites. Weak tartare sauce and grease from cod patty soaked through everything. Underwhelming to say the lease. Great shakes and numerous side dishes, all items reasonably priced. I'd go again for the burgers. read more

When I take a road trip, I try desperately to avoid fast food. I pack healthy, organic, nutty-crunchy snacks and lots of water. Still, it only goes so far...sometimes you just need a hot meal. To avoid McD's and other crap, my husband and I usually seek out a good, greasy, truck stop diner for relief. Upon entering Boardman, our stomachs were growling. We hesitated when we thought about returning to the same, mediocre truck stop in town, where we've stopped before. That's when we saw the neon sign, "Eat Drive In," and we are SO glad we did! The C&D Drive In is "Home of the Bozo Burger." Can't tell you what it is, but if it's anything like their buffalo burgers, it's bound to be delicious! I am a buffalo meat addict, so I've had more than my fair share. These were perfect! The burgers are stacked with all the fixings and are just the right size...reminded me of Humdinger Hamburgers in Portland (if you haven't been, GO!). We also had fries and shakes (of course). Shakes were thick and super tasty, thick-cut fries were also good. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because I prefer krinkle-cut fries and I think everyone should serve them. Call me crazy... The service here was impeccable, too. It was very busy when we came in, at around 9pm on a weeknight, so there were already people ahead of us. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our food and, when our order came up, the owner/manager apologize profusely for the delay. We thought, "Really? You mean, people complain about waiting 10 minutes for a real buffalo burger and shakes? Hmm...not us!" Then, after our meal, I returned our unused condiments (I'm a no-waste freak) and ordered a root beer to go. The guy gave it to me for free! He said he was sorry that we had to wait so long (??) for our food, so it was on the house. Amazing! Not to mention, the rest of the staff were scooting around with inane efficiency, cleaning, taking orders, emptying trash. This place is obviously on point. So, next time you're on I-84 and need a good bite of food, STOP HERE. If you're looking for a great, old school, drive-in meal, you won't be disappointed. read more

I used to live in Boardman and whenever I find myself roadtripping down I-84 C & D is the only thing that makes me want to stop. Due to the nature of where I usually drive to and from I'm passing through Boardman before 10 am, which usually isn't a great time for a burger, but the Bozo is worth it. Loaded and topped with a special sauce that's simply the most delicious thing I've ever had on a fast food burger. Whenever Californians rave about In-n-out burgers I can't help but imagine that they're something like this. The milkshakes take it to another level altogether. I usually settle for a local flavour (blackberry) but the selection is massive and they're all great. If you find yourself in Boardman for any reason, check it out and you won't be let down. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars just because for a small town in the middle of no where they are 5 star material. Fast, polite and friendly service in a very clean facility. I ordered a pizza from the motel and when I went to pick it up I was shocked by how many cars were in the lot at C&D. The place was hoppin' . The pizza was no city pizza parlor pizza. But it was big, fresh, hot and delicious. We had the vegetarian and it was loaded with bell pepper, onion, black olives and mushrooms with a double dose of cheese. Much better than I would have expected and well worth a try. It was ready in less than 15 minutes. read more

Over priced, low quality. Whilst hungry travelers and indifferent teens find this place an oasis, you'll rarely find a local eating within. The food is extremely overpriced and lacking in quality. If I'm going to pay $15 for a burger fries and drink, I expect restaurant quality. Not the same patties you find at McDonald's. $7-8 for a milkshake??? Get real. As my brother-in-law and I cruised through Oregon, destined for the great city of Portland, we stumbled upon the C&D Drive In. This unassuming roadside diner is home of one of the greatest grilled ham and cheese sandwiches I have ever put into my tummy. To qualify this statement, I have eaten many a grilled sammich in my day. The C&D actually had a pretty big menu and I have also eaten one of their burgers but it does not compare to the gastronomical awesomeness that is their grilled ham and cheese sandwich served with crinkle cut fries. It also seems that the locals are very aware of this place because both times I have been there it has been packed. Unfortunately, this also means that both times I have visited, I have waited abnormally long for my food. But the food is very worth the wait! So if you are a road wary traveler looking for some tasty grub in central Oregon, make a stop by the C&D and eat a grilled cheese sandwich for me. You will not regret it. read more

We were in Boardman over the weekend and ate at C&D on Friday. I had the 1/4 lb cheeseburger and small onion rings. My husband had the Bozo burger and large onion rings. I loved the burger and onion rings! My husband liked his also, but he usually likes everything. Mine was so good, I suggested we go there again on Saturday. I got the regular cheeseburger this time because the 1/4 lb burger was a little big for me. It was just as delicious as the first one! I also got a small fry. They were ok, just regular fries. Coming back from a bike race in Echo, C&D has become a delicious yearly tradition! The food has always been impressive; tastes great and is an awesome value! The burger, fries and vanilla malt were -hands down - the best I've tasted. EVER. These are not gourmet burgers with blue cheese crumbles, mushrooms or arugula. They are traditional burgers like you'd find in an old school burger stop, drive-in or dairy bar. Soft, fresh buns, basic but fresh veggies and condiments, flavorful patties, etc. The special sauce is delish. The staff are friendly and generous - you'd think each employee owned the place with their sincere attention to detail. We got our food to go and ate it on the banks of the Columbia River at sunset. Be careful if you order a Latte . . . We stopped at about 1:15 pm on 22 Sept 2019. The BLT was ok. The burger my friend ordered was ok. The onion rings were good. The nonfat Latte however was a problem. My friend spilled a little on his wrist, causing a 1st, almost 2nd degree burn. 5 minutes after we got it, I took a sip - and burned my tongue, the roof of my mouth and my throat. It was scalding hot - after sitting for 5 minutes. I added 3 of the little creamers and 2 ice cubes from my friend's soft drink and left the lid off. It was still too hot to drink. After 25 minutes I finally asked to speak to a manager - because the burn in my mouth and the burn on my friend were not getting any better. The manager said that the Latte was 120 degrees - a full 25 minutes after it was made. I don't know how long it takes for a beverage to cool down when the lid was left open, cool liquid and ice cubes added . . . but I am 100% confident it was not served at the "ideal" 160 degrees. Not even an apology was offered, though the manager did make a new Latte - which was drinkable almost immediately in spite of my apprehension. Before leaving I strongly encouraged the manager to have the thermometer tested . . . NOBODY should be burned like we were. read more

As I mentioned in another review, Boardman is a very small town along highway 84 in Oregon. I've been working on a construction project out at the power plant, and there aren't a lot of choices for where to eat in town. On my bosses reccomendation, we went across the highway and had dinner at the C&D Drive In. Big mistake, because I ate WAY TOO MUCH! :) My first night I had the Bozo Burger, a corn dog, onion rings and a to-die-for milk shake. I liked it so much I came back again the next night, and the next.... The 2nd and 3rd times, we also had them make up some sandwhiches for lunch the next day, since there isn't anything close to the power plant where you can buy lunch. On my next trip out, I had the chili burger with bacon one night. Hmm mmmm! My service has always been friendly and quick. And I can't wait until my next trip to the jobsite! read more

Burgers, pizza, and doughnuts...? Interesante. Pretty standard quality burgers (when they say cheese burger, they mean meat, cheese, and a bun - toppings are added). Fries look like something you can buy from the frozen section at Winco. Biggest chicken strips I've ever seen in my life! And that about sums it up. To me this is your average small town fast food joint. If you're hungry, you'll be filled, but if you're looking for mouth-watering fare, you'll probably want to keep driving to Pendleton or The Dalles and look around. We were brought here by the nephew of the tow truck guy who fixed my car when we hit a tire in on i84 while headed to Wallowa Lake (i.e. the middle of nowhere, OR). It's kind of confusing trying to figure out where to order, and once you do you basically have to play Russian Roulette trying to figure out which cramped line will move the fastest (we chose wrong). I'm not in a hurry to get back any time soon (or ever for that matter), but if you find yourself stranded in Boardman, OR, why not give it a shot... or you can just buy a corn dog and chips from the gas station. read more

What happened to this place? So many years I have been coming here for milkshake, curly fries and a burger. It's a tradition. Like all good things I guess this tradition is over. The fries have went downhill and they no longer offer the fry sauce for free with it. The milkshakes taste like syrup. I couldn't even taste the ice cream. I have been getting the same flavor milkshake for over ten years. Now it taste like someone dumped the whole bottle of syrup in it. We took it back and they argued about it. Why would I lie that their milkshake taste like a bottle of syrup. After decades of stopping here this is the last time. The nostalgia of coming here for decades is gone. The customer service was horrible. Why would a business want to sell something to a customer that is not up to at least good quality? Take some pride in your work and your business. Pretty sure this place has to be owned by someone new because this place has went completely downhill. read more

We were driving to Portland and needed to stop someplace fast for lunch. Based on the reviews we stopped in. I was surprised that they served both elk and buffalo burgers as well as standard all beef hamburgers. However, on our two hamburgers they were both over cooked so you could not taste the buffalo. Better than any of the chain burger places but ask for them not over cook if possible. Try the local I e cream milkshakes they do make the trip worthwhile l. read more

Did not have the house special burger, don't care for 1/2# of meat situations, so can't speak to that. Did not live up to the hype. Service was fine, and quick. Stopped here on a trip through Oregon. Have to say it wasn't bad. I don't think it was anything special but it was tasty. Definitely better than Carl's Jr. a little ways away. They have a lot of different burgers on the menu and a variety of food. Worth stopping if you're hungry and don't like typical fast food places. We'd stop again if we drive through again. read more
