The food isn't anything really leaps and bounds over other gyro places in Astoria. It is also pretty expensive. A chicken gyro platter with salad and rice is about $25. Stopped by BZ grill to grab lunch, and was pleasantly surprised by the portions and quality. I sat inside, and tried the classic gyro, bistek, and Greek fries. While the bistek was fun and unique in that there was melted cheese inside the meat, I found the classic gyro to be much tastier. Came here after an appointment and not eating all day . I got the pork souvlaki platter it was so good it was all fresh and came to my table in 10 min . The meat was nice and charred the arranged salad was nice and fresh the cheese and the sauce was very flavorful. The place doesn't have any frills but definitely nice and clean and brightly lit . We stopped by after checking my dad out of the hospital in the city since he was famished and my uncle loves this place. We sat outside in the gorgeous fall weather and ordered three lunch specials (2 pork and 1 falafel). The server was super friendly and tended to us right away and our food was made pretty quickly. The pita was soft and stuffed to the gills with filling. The falafel was nice and hot and not spicy (I don't tolerate spice well and most places that offer falafel as an option are too spicy for me), and the lettuce and tomatoes were nice and fresh. There was the perfect amount of tzatziki on it as well where it complemented the flavors without overpowering everything. And the fries...omg the fries. Love love love! Crispy almost like battered fries with a nice chewy center, and a nice heaping portion for a lunch special. The guys loved their gyros as well and ate every last bite. The bathroom was nice and clean as was the whole restaurant (small area but good use of space with the seating). Definitely stop by and grab the gyros that live up to hype! read more

If you like Yeeero/gyro/doner then this is the place for you. Two types are offered: pork and chicken. I had the sandwich made even more special by the fact that BZ uses pita by Mediterranean Pita, otherwise known as the best commercially baked pita. I also ordered the pork platter to go and someone back at the apartamento will most certainly be hangry. Feeling a bit drowsy, I ordered a Turkish/Greek coffee to stay. You know the type with all the residue at the bottom. My relatives back in the motherland would seize the opportunity to flip the cup and read the coffee grinds that were slowly creeping down the cup's interior. Young women's' grind readings would inevitably go like this: [spoken by the coffee grind reader while staring intensely at the grids] "you will love a long time, see this is your lifeline and it's long [pointing to so random line between the grinds]. You will also go on a long trip and meet a tall, dark and handsome man who will sweep you off your feet...". You get the drift. I was able to try multiple items for this place an I must say that they were all excellent. The pita was warm and fresh. The dips were delicious. I was able to try multiple types of meats from them and they were all great. I especially enjoyed to bacon wrapped chicken and the other cubes of meats that were pulled off a skewer. They had ground beef skewers that literally melted in my mouth in the best possible way. The fries were really good, some had cheese on them. Everything I tried was really good. One of the legendary spots of NYC. This place is ranks as a lot of the proverbial bests in the city in my book. The Pork Gyro alone in my humble opinion rates, until I am proven otherwise as not only the best gyro in the city, but possibly the best pork dish of any genre, and one of the cities definitive best dishes period. Porky goodness with the mind blowing texture striking the perfect balance between crisp bacon and juicy roast pork, I always go big with the platter as opposed to a sandwich, which is served alongside a massive for NYC portion of crispy fries or perfectly prepared rice along with a classic and reliably fresh and crisp salad alongside a classic and perfect Greek tzatziki sauce and a corresponding mound of deliciously pungent feta and pillowy pitas for you to assemble bitesize little sandwiches with as you see fit. Just behind that in terms of delicious greatness and almost as transcendent is the chicken gyro, which achieves a similarly mind bending texture and taste despite the fact that its made with the relatively leaner and healthier protein. The feta on that platter is swiped out for a delicious house sauce that isn't altogether different from fast-food burger sauce. One of these days I need to get around to trying the Bifteki, souvlaki, Seftalia and other traditional Greek delights but as of this drafting I've never been able to help myself from defaulting to one of those 2 legitimetly legendary gyros. There's a lot of great Greek food in Astoria but this, charming, well-kept and cozy, simple little borderline hole-in-the-wall, on a grittier more peripheral corner of the hood hits the spot for me like no other. The staff is across lovely and you can grab a cheap and tasty and authentic house Greek wine or Greek beer to wash down the likewise inflation-friendly priced food. Again, even if not for all that and just on the strength of that heavenly Pork Gyro alone, this place is to me nothing one of the iconic restaurants of NYC and in a more just world would be as venerated and exalted as much as Katz's Deli or John's of Bleecker Street, DiFara, etc as a truly undisputed NYC Icon. read more

Note: While I am not Greek, I was raised in Astoria and came to expect only the best of Greek food. I remember BZ Grill opened up around the time I moved out of Astoria and found the food top notch. Today I stopped by after a long tennis practice at Astoria Park and was not disappointed. The cashier and cook greeted me as I am came in and were super friendly and sweet. I ordered the chicken souvlaki sandwich with the works- salad, onions and a very good tsatsiki sauce with chunks of chicken breast held in a pita. The sandwich was enough for a meal and cost $11. I've heard wonderful things about BZ Grill but sadly they weren't very gluten-free friendly. I visited BZ Grill last weekend with a group of friends. Usually greek food has many gluten free options and my friends were looking for gyros so BK's seemed like the perfect place. After we were seated and reviewed the menu our server came to take our orders. Originally I wanted the falafel platter and asked if the falafel was gluten free and the server said "no". So I pivoted and ordered the veggie platter which was on the menu and listed a variety of veggies and rice. When my platter arrived it included all the veggies plus the falaflel (not gf) and 4 pieces of pita (not gf). These gluten items were not listed out on the menu and I was surprised the server did not mention those items when I ordered given that I had just asked if the flafel contained gluten and then changed my order from the falafel plate. I picked off the non gluten free items and gave them to my friends to enjoy. While this worked for me, it would not have worked for someone with celiac disease. Other than the gluten mishap, the portions were large and I had enough to take home for lunch the next day. The veggies on my platter were delicious but I was skeptical of other items being gluten free so I didn't enjoy a couple of the sauces that came on the side which likely would have enhanced the dish. The restaurant itself was clean and all the other patrons seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere and food. They had limited seating inside and outside but we were able to snag a table for two outside. There was a long to go wait and it seemed like they were preparing a lot of deliveries as well. It wasn't hard to believe as you can get a sandwich with fries and a drink for around 10 dollars. That is unheard of in Manhattan. I got the chicken pita. It was good. I wish there was more sauce! Or at least have the sauce more evenly distributed! If I'm around the area again, I would stop by for a quick lunch! read more

*Catering Review* I went to a party that was catered by BZ Grill. The food was great! The lamb/beef kebab was awesome! GET THE GREEK FRIES YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY! And their tzatziki sauce was great too. The hummus was decent, as was the eggplant salad. The chicken kebab was a bit dry but I think that's because we had to re-heat it in the oven. I've been here before years ago but never wrote a review (completely forgot). Me and my friend opted to sit outdoors. You tell the guy behind the counter your order and then later he calls you to take out the food. I assume because of the pandemic there's a lot more outdoor seating. Food portions are MASSIVE. The platter was huge. Easily shareable between 2 people. The salad was refreshing. My friend got the eggplant dish (comes in 2 sizes. One is the size of a small dip while the bigger one is appropriate as a side). When everything came out our table had no room. I wanted iced coffee but they didn't sell it at the restaurant but the guy was so sweet and recommended I go down the street to the deli as they sold iced coffee! So I did and got my iced coffee. When it was time to pay, he gave me and my friend beer and ginger ale on the house! What a friendly sweet environment!!! Really nice to see so much kindness during the pandemic.
