I've been coming here for about 7 years now and this place is a favorite. Their King Lou (burger the size of a to-go box) is the best deal. Anything with triple pattys, bacon, ham, onion ring and condiments are a go. I've tried almost everything on the menu but that and their 5pc fish and chip are to die for. The burgers are awesome as well, but there is something about eating a fish sammich right next to the dump that is exciting to me. This place is all about the food. Not pretty to look at but great greasy burgers and an AMAZING fish sandwich! I only feel comfortable in 1/2 the chairs in there since most are attached to the ground and cant be moved. I think they'e old McDonald's table/chairs. It can be pricey so look for a special. Otherwise you can shell out $10-$11 for a burger, drink and fries or onion rings. I drove by this place for a couple decades without giving it a 2nd thought. But one day, as I waited for Taco Del Mar to open on a Saturday but opening late, I drove across the street to By's. What stands out about this place are the portion sizes, which are huge, and their homemade goods. I asked the girl behind the counter if they cut their own potatoes for their fries, and she replied in the affirmative. This definitely stands out when you consider how all the other places down on 4th Ave. make their fries, and other food - which they get directly from the factory. So far I've had the fish and chips and chicken sandwich and fries, which have been all good. Great portion sizes - and homemade "fast" food. read more

So with the exception of McDonalds and Wendys my neighborhood doesn't have much to offer in terms of burgers. With a little help from Yelp I ended up at By's. As I have never been here, I can't speak too much to their prices going wayyyy up but $7.29 for a Lou's special(Double bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a drink) works for me. The fries were probably my favorite part of the meal, salty and delicious. Minor detail but they get bonus points for having Cherry Coke. The burger itself was reasonable. Lots of vegetables which I liked but overall the patties were thin and nothing too crazy. If you have an appetite don't be scared away from the thought of ordering a triple! read more

I came here today for lunch. From the outside the place looks like it's been around for 50 years or so. There's also a bikini espresso stand in the same parking lot which was a nice bonus. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with pineapple sandwich and a small order of frys. My coworkers ordered the fish sandwich and the fish and chips. Both of their meals looked better than mine in my opinion. I will more than likely get the fish and chips next time. I got the Lou's special with a shake instead of a soda. Getting the shake was probably the best idea I had all day. It was ah-maze-ing. And they give you a large bubble tea straw so you don't have to worry about the top of your head collapsing because of the suction you would need trying to suck at the thick, deliciousness with a regular sized straw. Decided to go here on co workers recommendation. Purchased 2 single burgers with onions and a order of onion rings. Burgers would have been perfect except for the mao like or McDonalds sauce as I call it. Makes for a messy, fall apart burger that covers the real taste of the burger. The onion rings were spot on with crispy coating that did not fall off with a soft, juicy onion ring within. I don't think I will return. read more

Best cheap burger place in Seattle, hands down! WAY better than Dick's and better and cheaper then Red Mill (and no way near as pretentious). I pretty much always get the Lou's Special (double bacon cheeseburger) so I can't say much about the other menu items. The burger just tastes damn good and the fries are phenomenal; hand cut, skins still on, crispy but not too greasy. The shakes are fantastic as well. The folks that work there are super nice and actually say thank when you leave. Oh, the other great thing about this place is the view, it's right across the street from the Rabanco trash/recycling center. Definitely a Seattle institution. read more

Best fish and chips in town. They're so good I won't order fish and chips anywhere else because everything else is a disappointment compared to By's. The cod is cut into generous portions, breaded and fried just right. The meat is bright white with a nice flake, and there are no soggy spots in the breading and it clings nicely to the fish. The fries are hand cut, fried, and salted to tasty perfection. No freezer fries here. Burgers are good too. I like a thin burger with a lot of veggies and sauce, that's what you get here. Milkshakes are good too, Peanut Butter is my fave. And as a bonus the ladies are super friendly. I eat here fairly often and the service and food is always spot on. read more

At what point from the drive into the lot, to parking, to entering By's did you expect anything other than what this place is? It's a greasy lunch joint next door to the dump for cryingoutloud. The burgers are good and you can watch the bulldozers and sorting robots shuffle the trash around at the Rabanco while you eat. Free entertainment! Tried the fish burger and the onion rings based on the recommendations here. Was a bit too chicken to try the shakes since I was getting on a plane in an hour. The fish burger is quite possibly the best I have ever had. The batter is light, no greasiness, fish was hot and flaky. Absolutely delicious. The onion rings were lightly breaded and fried and so hot. I felt they were a bit pricey for the amount, but maybe that's because the burger was so large I couldn't finish all the rings. Not the best burgers I've had but the Lou's Special (double cheese with bacon) is pretty good and for ~$7 with fries and a drink it's not a bad deal. The cashiers are very friendly. The only down side is the location. No one wants to eat right next to a transfer station, but it's not a big deal if you get it to go. I highly reccomend giving it a try if you're in SoDo. read more
