We loved Buttermilk kitchen in Atlanta, GA and it was always so busy. We were excited when the owner and chef moved to Maine and opened this restaurant in downtown Camden. Super yummy biscuits and her famous chicken biscuits with red pepper relish and pickles. So good. You can add a side of pimento grits as well....so yummy. Wish I would have had room for some fried green tomatoes. This southern born girl was in heaven. The space is small, quaint and cute on the inside. I believe they close at 2pm and are on closed on Tuesdays. They also offer lunch options and haddock chowder. They are downtown Camden so you would look for street parking or the lot down by the water. In the summer they have a small deck that faces the water.

Nestled between centuries old shops of Main Street Camden, Buttermilk Kitchen at Marriner's is an adorable brunch spot featuring traditional Maine flavors with a southern twist. Our party of 6 arrived at noon on a Sunday in August and the wait was about 45 minutes, but there were plenty of shops to pass the time. Everyone enjoyed their meals starting with the incredible fried green tomatoes. The fried haddock sandwich was thick and tasty. The biscuits with homemade Maine blueberry jam was the perfect side to accompany the fresh veggies in the Market hash. The fried chicken on a bed of pimento grits was a great plate to share. Great experience all around and we will be back the next time we're in Camden!

We stopped in after a weekend of camping, hungry! We left full and even took the biscuit mix with us! Our server, Ocean was fast & efficient. I had a garden omelette that was just right. Wayne, in his quest for homemade hash was thrilled & his poached eggs were perfectly cooked. Two standouts: the home fries & the biscuits. Home fries were crispy on the outside, flavorful and delicious. The biscuits are buttermilk drop biscuits, made better with their blueberry basil jam. We enjoyed all of this in a window seat overlooking Camden Harbor. Pretty cool

We finally made it to Buttermilk Kitchen! It was so good, as I hoped it would be and have read about. I had to have the signature chicken and buttermilk biscuit sandwich! And I love the homage to the old Mariner restaurant, a classic diner in downtown Camden for so many years

What an absolute gem of a breakfast spot! Our Airbnb host recommended this place and it deserves all the hype. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with such warmth--it felt like visiting an old friend's home. The space is cozy, inviting, and just the kind of place you want to linger over a slow, delicious morning meal. The food was *phenomenal*--every bite was comforting and flavorful, clearly made with love and quality ingredients. But the real standout? The biscuit and chicken with the pepper jelly. We were so obsessed, we ended up buying six jars to give as gifts...and of course, one to keep for ourselves. It's the perfect mix of sweet and heat, and I already know it'll be a staple in our kitchen. This place is the definition of a hidden treasure. Can't wait to come back and try more!

All the great reviews! Such a cute hip place! It is a cute place and some of the food is good, like the biscuits and the fried chicken. But it's not amazing food. In fact, when my chicken and grits came with hot sauce all over the plate and I immediately started choking, I had to tell the waitress. The menu description is maple syrup/hot sauce and I figured it would actually have some maple syrup taste. It didn't It was just tabasco poured all over. Instead of offering me something else, she said they could scrape the egg and chicken off the top of the grits and the hot sauce and bring it back. I said ok since I didn't want to make a fuss. When I started choking again on the hot sauce that was still under the eggs and chicken she didn't notice. She also didn't notice when we needed water, or a drink. Or the check. She had to fold napkins. I've eaten here 3 times and won't again. The sausage gravy, whatever special Southern thing it's supposed to be is awful. (and I know other people who think so also) It's expensive for what you get. No one bothers to notice a smashed dead fly next to your head on the wall. I ate at Mariners for many years, so comfortable, so rock solid in what you got, the same delicious hot hot soup, the wonderful huge tuna salad sandwich. The chowders, the eggs. Everything was reliable and delicious and not overpriced. You were served your food in ten minutes! And you could sit outside on the deck where they got rid of all the tables now and put 2 high tops. I hate hip. I miss Mariners.

special: scrambled with chicken, sausage, feta cheese, and pico de gallo (I substituted for egg whites), home fried potatoes, and biscuit.

We enjoyed a phenomenal breakfast here! The service was attentive and warm since our arrival. We had the special which was scrambled with chicken sausage, feta cheese & pico de gallo, accompanied by a fabulous biscuit and crispy home fries. Well balance of flavors and served with a home made blueberry-basil jelly on the side. It was all a WOW. The staff was super fun, it was tacky-tourist day and they were dressed really funny (i kinda resembled one of the outfits ).

Biscuits best I've ever had. Blueberry sauce great. Market scramble different and delish. Pancakes solid quality. Service a little slow but NBD. Very friendly. Cute decor. Bathroom awesome with HUGE baby changing table. Nice nod to families. Will def be back.

Excellent food, fresh, local ingredients, always well prepared, just like the original location in Atlanta. One of my favorite places for breakfast in Atlanta, and one of Atlanta's most popular. There's almost always a wait, but it's worth the wait. You can't go wrong eating here. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and the servers are pleasant. Camden is fortunate to have this restaurant! And, lest I forget, kudos to Brandon (the GM) for his hard work at the restaurant delivering orders and insuring that customers are happy and pleased with their food; I watched him show a genuine interest in the customers, true Southern hospitality exhibited in the far north.

Located in the bustling Summer town of Camden this spot brings the South up North without the humidity. An aficionado of southern taste I felt I was back home. Fried chicken needs a home, and that home is a warm fluffy biscuit The atmosphere has a marine type feel. Deep blues coupled with crisp white tones. Cuddled up to the bar, chatting with patrons I ordered a cappuccino with a chicken biscuit, and chased it down with pimento grits. A breakfast spot, this is a good spot to come by yourself, meet with friends, or have a morning date with your other: The food was on spot. The jelly was perfect for the biscuit. The Fried chicken had a crispy bite but once you broke that, you cut into a warm juicy center. The pimento cheese grits should be your only choice as your side. I've heard "I don't like grits", if you don't like these bless your heart, grits don't need you. Service was spot on with a smile as I witnessed them making me a perfect cappuccino. Bottom line, southern breakfast spot in yankee land. Done right that anyone from the south would approve and anyone up North should be grateful.

While I was disappointed that the dish that initially prompted my visit this summer was sold out (their wildly popular grits!), I was more than won over by my breakfast, especially the unparalleled biscuits and home-made jam. If my traveling/breakfast companions would have permitted, I would have purchased a box to go and eaten them all on our way up to Acadia. In fact, I liked Buttermilk Kitchen so much that I've recommended it, unsolicited, to multiple people who've mentioned they're bound for downeast Maine!

The meal was absolutely flavorful on my first visit but not so much the last visit in Dec 2025. Maybe it was a bad night? I thought the flavors fell flat and service was not as attentive. I was celebrating the holidays by treating friends to dinner and had to wave down someone twice to order rounds of drinks. I will give any establishment 20 stars if they are paying attention as to whether your glass is half empty. For me, the food can be excellent or blah but excellent service can make or break a restaurant.

Since it was between breakfast and lunch we decided to stop into Atlantic Baking for a coffee and a pastry. Atlantic Baking is an unassuming shop right along what I'm going to consider a main street through Rockland. Not necessarily THE main street, but the Main-est we saw, so I'm sticking with that. Inside are several cases of pastries, breads, rolls, donuts and other baked goods that looked at me as if to say "I dare you". There was a cinnamon roll-ish thing that looked really good, and a Vanilla latte are what talked to me most. The staff (two young ladies on this morning) were busy hustling and, even with that, were helpful as they tried to keep taking care of customers. The vanilla latte was SUE-PERB, albeit a bit hot for my taste (had it let is cool first). As we sat having our halfway-between-breakfast-and-lunch-but-not-really-brunch snack there was a steady stream of customers, I'm guessing about 50/50 regulars and cruisers. Aside from pastries, coffees and teas, there's a cooler with canned/bottle beverages for the on-the-go beverage drinker. With as much activity as was going on during our visit you'd think it'd be difficult to keep clean, but there was a gentleman who came out frequently to take care of emptied tables, trash, etc. There are windows into the baking area, proving that they've got nothing to hide.
